From Eden in Southend-on-Sea

One of the best Sunday lunches we have ever had in a restaurant! Wonderful food, friendly service - and a great "private" room, not requested but offered as we were a fairly large family group with three young children.

This restaurant needs to clearly display on their website that afternoon tea requires a booking via call. Booked a table as shown on website but upon arrival was told I could not have the afternoon tea as I did not call. Instead got some breakfast so it wasn’t a wasted journey and that was OK at best. Very disappointing experience.

I'd booked a table for 6 on the website. When we arrived they hadn't received the booking and had no idea we were coming. Luckily they had a table for us and the staff were good and made us welcome. 4 out of 6 of us ordered the halibut which was the most expensive thing on the menu at £26. The size of the fish portion was ridiculously small. I honestly believe they only had 2 portions available and shared them between 4 of us. My husband and I left feeling hungry enough to go home and have some cheese and biscuits. I'd heard good things but was so disappointed.

Nice atmosphere, staff, food. It took a while for food to arrive after we ordered, but we were happy to take our time. Would certainly go again. They allow small dogs during the day - which is a bonus as so many places don’t.

I went for afternoon tea with two friends. The atmosphere was perfect and calm, ideal for a catch up with friends. The afternoon tea didn't disappoint. A nice selection and good amount. My friend is vegetarian and was well catered for. Lovely, unique, décor. Fantastic mocktails (also available as cocktails). The mocktail I chose was a real party piece with a bubble on top! You have to experience it, my words won't do it justice! We had a really nice, relaxing afternoon at From Eden and would heavily recommend based on this sole visit. I hope to visit again soon.

Just spent such a lovely Sunday afternoon here with friends. The back room where we were seated is so pretty and the food was superb.

Took the Wife and some friends to the Restaurant on the recent Tapas evening. There was a very good Gypsy Kings style Guitarist singer providing the entertainment and everyone was impressed. The Food was incredibly flavoursome, very authentic and very generous and each Tapas dish could easily pass as a full main course. The service was promptly undertaken with both a smile and eager consideration for the guests. The Cocktails were brilliant and some were met with cheers and applause at other tables. A stand out wonderful evening enjoyed by all the patrons.

Not great I'm afraid. No atmosphere. Timid wait staff who seemed surprised why we were entering the premises! Partner's chicken starter was served pink. They took this off the final bill but nobody bothered to tell us this meaning we spent the main course stewing whether to complain again or not. Wait staff have no confidence which I sympathise with but probably this isn't the job for you, sorry I love to support independent restaurants like this but afraid this just wasn't very good. Also only two tables booked on what presumably should be a busy Saturday night, which tells its own story. My lobster and prawn starter was ok, hence the two stars for food. No idea where the glowing reviews come from. Perhaps we were just unlucky but the empty dining room I feel told it's own story.

This is a lovely, cosy little cafe with nice decor. My friend and I had the sunday roast dinner(pork and lamb) and agreed that it was exceptionally tasty! There was also a man playing a variety of tunes on a guitar which added a nice relaxing atmosphere. We will be back!

Really lovely place, all of us had a great brunch, both times we went. We liked it so much the first time, we went back shortly after with others.

Went to celebrate a friends 100th Birthday. Had to wait quite a while to be served. Had the breakfast which was OK, but the poached eggs which were perfectly cooked were freezing and I didn't feel I had time to wait to get hot eggs as we had to wait soo long for the food to arrive. A shame.

Small bistro feel small friendly atmosphere the four of us had starters main meal and afters everything was superb and the roast dinner was fantastic best meal out we have had for ages

As always, the staff were very attentive and ensured that gluten-free options were available. The food was delicious and the ambiance was perfect.

Lovely Sunday lunch, complimented by the talented Colm Daly serenading us all wonderfully to make the perfect setting . Highly recommended.

Always loved this place. Came here recently for a Sunday roast, delicious! Portions of vegetables could be bigger and more staff on a Sunday (quite a long waiting time) and make sure you have a good stock of wine. Quite a lot wasn’t available.

Whilst We had a takeaway when plated at home I can say it was of as high a quality as From Eden manage for dine-ins. How the kitchen produces such exceptional roasts I do not know, but I do know this, we want more and more…

Our first visit and were definitely be back! We had the sharing Seafood Platter and it was amazing! Service was fab too! The only thing it lacked was atmosphere. It was very quiet for a Friday but have been advised they have events and live entertainment other nights and the afternoon tea looks amazing so will be back to try it all out! Highly recommended 👌

I love Eden Restaurant. Superb food and staff. Can’t stop recommending it to all my friends. Quality food at affordable prices. This picture is from yesterday, Eggs royal, and if you think you can’t be wrong making them, yes you can! At Eden they cook the eggs and the beacon impressively splendid. Delicious.

First time there. Nice relaxing atmosphere, attentive staff. On Friday evening , we were surprised by a live acoustic guitar player singing really relaxing songs! Really helped to relax you. I have the beef wellington starter which was good and my wife had the chilli and Garlic prawns ,.which was done perfectly. I had the Sirloin steak which was done perfectly and my wife had the halibut. The long beans was a bit limp and the Lyonnaise potato was a bit wet. But otherwise it was a pleasant evening and the music was an added plus!

Went to From Eden with the girls, Alex our server was lovely and makes great cocktails! They were really accommodating and nothing was too much of a trouble. The food was amazing especially the arachnini as were the cocktails. My favourite is their pina colada. 10/10 would recommend!! The decor was quirky and cute and all in all was very clean.

Wasn't impressed...family Sunday lunch. Roast potatoes were horrible. Worse than an aunt Bessie.. dry and barely warm. I had the hake which was dry and tasteless. Had to repeatedly ask for drinks. Staff never asked and never cleared the table of empty glasses and bottles. Had to ask for cutlery as wasn't replaced after starters. No salt and pepper on table. Won't be back

Excellent vibe, superb service and faultless food. My 68 year old Mother said it's the best roast dinner she has ever had. Which has caused a little bit of friction with my Mrs who will maintain hers is better until she dies. No comment.

Went for afternoon tea. I loved it but kids said sandwiches had bread that was too thick. Cakes and sausage rolls were excellent.

We came to the restaurant based on reviews, it did not disappoint! We had a Lamb Roast here, which was amazing! The staff were so lovely and attentive and great with allergens. The live music was great for the setting - perfect for a relaxing Sunday roast. We would make this a regular spot if we lived closer! Hope to visit again soon when we’re in the area.

Lovely welcome....however...15mins for coffee to be served....nearly an hour for food to be served...chelsea bun so bad had to be sent back.Other customers walked out...saying they couldn't wait any longer.Has potential...not good enough.

Four of us visited fir the first time for dinner, lovely ambiance, the food and service were very good. Would definitely recommend and will return.

We went yesterday for my birthday meal out. The lady who served us gave next level service. She had dark hair tide up at the back. We didn't get her name. The food itself was amazing too!! We will be back.

This is very quickly becoming my venue of choice as it meets every expectation in food, service and ambiance. Took my wife to the restaurant last evening for a Valentine's dinner and the menu was superb. The restaurant was fully booked and the owners had put on a very competent singer/musician to add to the romantic atmosphere. My three course meal, selected from numerous menu options, was wonderfully presented and it was a bonus to see the Chef and applaud him when he emerged from the kitchen late in the evening to take a bow. As always the waiting staff were diligent and efficient and a very fine evening was enjoyed by everone.

Food was nice but deceiving menu. They sell the chocolate mousse as ‘served with raspberries’ when there is literally just one raspberry on top while they somehow forget to mention that most of the food in the fish platter is deep fried. And ‘Avocado salad’ had 3/4 pieces of avocado at most. Also very slow service.

We popped in for quick lunch between school runs to catch up. Atmosphere and food was great. Service was very quick. Would highly recommend this place x

From Eden organised the most fantastic Birthday Dinner for me on 7th January for 52 guests. The food was incredible and the staff very efficient. They even produced a most beautiful Birthday Cake. Thank you all for making a 75th Birthday so special

Disappointing. We were turned away today as they had one table of about 12 people and couldn’t cope with anymore customers despite there being many free tables. They should have closed the door and put a sign up.

Went for Christmas afternoon tea, set menu £22.00 each, selection of sandwiches, cakes etc, endless tea, excellent value, so much to each , hardly had enough room to finish, lovely staff, would definitely be visiting in the future 😀

I visited with a friend midweek for breakfast and the restaurant was very quiet with only 1 other table of 4 adults seated. Despite being very quiet we waited for at least 40mins for 2 vegetarian breakfasts to be cooked? Quite puzzling why it tool...

Booking for my partners birthday. Checked menu online which we liked so made a booking. Arrived to be handed the "xmas" menu (ie extra £20 for the word xmas) to order from. Had to then spend several minutes convincing member of staff that there was no mention of this completely different and more expensive xmas menu online. We decided to leave and it was only then that we were offered to choose from the online menu. Staff seemed more interested im chatting and laughing amonst themselves at the till \ bar. Fajitas I ordered were swimming in grease and just plain awful. I really cannot recommend.

Was taken here for afternoon tea for my birthday and didn't have a very good experience. I am gluten free and was advised i would be catered for the tea came out looking beautiful however taking a bite into my sandwich the bread was stale dry and frozen in places. The cakes were only ok and the scone literally crumbled cut open very disappointing 😞 since eating here i have been very unwell so glutened. Avoid if u have dietary requirements, the non gluten free afternoon tea was nut free and had nuts on the plate

4 of us on a Saturday night enjoyed the evening overall - cocktails were good, albeit quite expensive, food was above average in some respects (allebro scotch egg) but it was overall all a bit mediocre. Service was slow and getting drinks took an age....

Eden is a really nice lunch spot. They also do afternoon tea which we didn't have but looked amazing.

We visited as a family group on Sunday for lunch, having been many times before when it was Alebro. We were seated in the front of the restaurant and had a guitarist playing right behind us which meant we had to shout to each other...

I visited From Eden with my mum and children. It's such a lovely restaurant. The wait staff are very welcoming and attentive, the breakfast was delicious and my little girl was kept very entertained with colouring pencils and paper. We will definitely be coming back

We had to wait quite a while for our food, but once we got it it was so worth it. Would highly recommend the chicken breast roast- it was so moist and tender. 4 start only due to the long wait and lack of baby changing facilities. Food was great.

My wife and sister in law and I had breakfast here the other day. My wife had egg and bacon bagel and she noticed a small black worm on her lettuce and immediately took it to the waitress, who was very sorry to see this. She offered to do her breakfast again but by this time my sister in law and I had almost finished ours. When we came to pay the bill there was no discount for the problem and the staff seemed not to care. They did not apologise again when we left , even the offer of extra coffee would have been appreciated. It has left a very poor impression.

Absolutely delicious Sunday lunch, great portion size and everything was lovely. Staff were friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was great.

Having frequented this establishment when it was under its previous owners and never being disappointed, we thought we would give the new owners a try. Food - every mouthful of Sunday lunch was perfect albeit not huge portions and the Yorkshire being shop bought.The staff are friendly but inexperienced and lack basic training. No knowledge of the wines on offer or the basic principle of eye on customer at all times instead of chatting behind the bar and being more interested in what their colleagues are doing than what their customers needs are. Hopefully the owners will take constructive criticism on board from seasoned diners and invest as much in their staff as they have the decor. One point to make, when visiting a restaurant for a meal one doesn’t need to see the owners children flitting in and out drawing attention away from where it needs to be - on paying customers. We will give it another go in a month or two to see if they have iron out the creases.

Pleasant surroundings good food, excellent service, as always you pay for what you get.

Spur of the moment booking, Alebro was fairly full when we got there at half 7. I started with the mushrooms & my wife had the Scotch Egg (she cannot resist it). For a main came the Linguini and for me Lamb rump with Lyonnaise potato and Broccoli, then finished with Sticky Toffee Pudding. All the plates were empty and we had enjoyed the food as always.

Had a lovely meal last night at Alebro. Excellent food and great service.

I booked based on previous reviews as we were visiting relatives from afar and we were not disappointed! The food was amazing and the ambience was lovely, attentive staff to boot. We are just sorry that we live 95 miles away as otherwise this gem would be a regular haunt for us. Thank you for a wonderful evening.

We loved the ambience, very friendly staff and great service. Music was just right - we had Sunday roasts which were perfect and they happily brought an extra jug of gravy - my only one negative is that all of our vegetables were raw - I guess microwave- heated but basically uncooked and I couldn't even get my knife through the spouts! But other than that it was really lovely!

4.5 stars if I could. Service was lovely, very homey feel/conversational. Venue is simplistic and small size - with great music playing. Food was good - the fish platter was a good size, the steak was huge (but not my favourite - too much oil for me). Other dishes at the table looked great, think I just made the wrong choice with the sirloin. Nice selection of wines also.

Lovely restaurant, friendly staff and great service, linguine highly recommend, also the Bischoff cheesecake dessert. Only slight fault was the decor of which I would have given 5 stars. Great find

We've lived around the corner from Alebro for years and never been - big mistake. The food is simply exceptional and it turns out Wednesday is bring your own night! Great atmosphere will definitely be back.

Fully recommend this gem of a restaurant as my partner and I had a wonderful experience of our first time last night dinning at the Alebro as we had never heard or come across this restaurant in Essex before but I must say "it was truly an amazing evening and I just can't speak highly enough as the food was to die for and the wines and the staff friendly couldn't do anymore for you ' we are definitely coming back a million percent even the playlist of background music was faultless !! Thank you to everyone at the Alebro restaurant for making the best night ever !!

Another lovely takeaway during the second lockdown. Ordered at 6pm, picked up at 7:30pm. Great service 👌

Just had a delicious Sunday lunch here. The food was delicious and could not fault my lamb roast, seasonal veg, Yorkshire pudding and roast potatoes just like my mother used to make. My fellow diners had beef and there was no complaints. The staff were attentive but not overbearing and Covid measures were in place to make you feel safe. Can recommend for a nice relaxed family lunch.
