The fish wash ok but the Chips were disgusting and has you can see by the photos your fish and chips do bot fit in the Box mmmm

Brilliant service. This is a family run business providing excellent service 7 days a week. Taste is subjective, & imo this is one of the better chippies in the Calderdale area. The people are friendly, polite & accommodating. You can also ring ahead & order before arrival. Competitively priced good quality food

We had a fish butty and fish and chips with bits on. It was gorgeous, fish cooked as I waited. Lovely friendly staff as well

Food was ok bought chip teacake,but had bad stomach ache for the next 3 days,wont be going again,could be the oil they use,but first time I've experienced this,used to be top place for fish and chips,but was sold and fully refurbished

Best fish & chips in West Yorkshire, the fish is wonderful, very white & fresh , the batter is not greasy & tastes wonderful! Very helpful staff which is always a bonus ! Thank you friendly fisheries for feeding us after a very long walk around Hard Castle Craggs!!

I just picked up a preordered fish n chips, pudding and chips and a tub of curry sauce from Friendly Fisheries. The first surprise was over £14 for a basic meal. Although the fish was nice the pudding was actually crunchy, not what you would expect from a steamed suet product, I suspect it was left over from the lunchtime trade. The chips were ok and the curry sauce was fine. Definitely gone downhill since my last visit I would not recommend Friendly Fisheries

Popped in here after a day out and about nearby. Really friendly staff (even though they insist a muffin is a teacake!). Fish n chips were lovely, really hot and well wrapped. Fish was a good size and very 'meaty', would definitely recommend calling in.

Staying at a local hotel we visited on recommendations. Huge fish was bigger than the tray. Chips cooked perfectly.10/10. Friendly staff too.

The irony that this place is called Friendly Fisheries! The woman who served us was stressed blunt and borderline rude. We witnessed her shouting at one of the younger members of the team, who actually reacted rather submissively. This same woman told me off for leaning on the counter. What a cheek! Caught me off guard, and rendered me speechless! A cheese pie was ordered, which was just warmed up in a microwave for 2 mins right in front of us - it was a mushed up mess. We didn’t get our full order. When we arrived home we had some mushy peas missing and the two pickled eggs were squashed. We certainly won’t be going back to this place any time soon. One component: it was nice to see they serve traditional mushy peas.

Title says it all. Nice crisp batter and clean haddock. Not bad chips either. I am quietly impressed.

Bang on fish cooked to Order portion size good. Parking can be a pain as on the main road and alWays road works I don't know how they stay open. Lovely people would recommend to everybody.

I used to come here all the time I was greeted and served good hot food ,however today the dynamic has changed.I'm acknowledged, slumped over the fridge on her phone is the shop staff member she lazily puts away her phone I feel I should apologise for disturbing her.My order is taken and she disappears behind the fryer my fish at least is freshly cooked I'm not engaged with ,spoken to or even acknowledged,must be a local quirk as most folk In retail want to speak ??Friendly fishshop isn't very friendly at all to be fair.Staff member is clothed in a dirty blue polo shirt covered with an equally scruffy and batter covered fleece I amuse myself as fluorescent pink nails unfurl from crossed arms behind the counter I'm told my additional spam fritter will take 10 minutes .. shortly after a lukewarm battered sausage ,a soggy wet battered spam fritter soaked in oil is dumped on paper and my fish joins the t cake Server doesn't engage much more P's and Q's aren't taught round here either.Poor food, poor service and made about as welcome as something you'd avoid in a bath tub.Friendly by name most certainly not by nature,won't be back,and that's a promise.

The member of staff that served us was very helpful however the food was pretty awful . Hubby had fish which he believes had the skin left on it and was very greasy. I had a homemade fish cake which was huge and although you could see fish in it it really didn't taste of it. Too much mash potato and not enough fish in my opinion. We're only visiting the area and are thankful this is not our local chippy.

Fish cooked fresh, you order when you arrive. Good quality and always well cooked. Good spot to call on your way home after a busy day.

Visited here today (Sunday) 20 mins before closing time and was greeted with a rude member of staff telling us we couldn’t have chips because ‘We ain’t got any’. Sillily thinking they had ran out, I questioned it. This obnoxious girl snapped back that apparently the fryers get turned off 15 mins before the shop actually closes. Obviously just wanting to get home quicker. If that was actually the case why not close 15 mins earlier than advertised?

My family really enjout fabulous fish and chips from here. I just wish they did gluten free more than just on a Saturday as mid-week if often a tine we would prefer them!Highly recommend though and very efficient at taking telephone orders and getting everything ready to save the wait.

I’m originally from Bradford....the home of amazing Fish & Chips but I now live in Northern Scotland. I called at Friendly Fisheries and got two Haddock and Chips, a fish cake and peas. The food from here is simply first class. Fish was moist and cooked to order; chips freshly cooked and all roasting hot. The service is totally “Friendly” also, such a great change from faceless take aways. I’d highly recommend if you are in the area.

Absolutely massive fish for a fish butty. But. The batter was quite thin and, therefore, less enjoyable.

This is just expensive low quality fish and chips. Served by the rude and inconsiderate staff. I had a bag of chips that must have been stood for a long time with a bread cake that was stale

I hate being over negative but after receiving fish that tasted of detergent I thought it best to give a straight up honest review. I used to come to the old chippy which was mega. This isn’t! On a positive side you get plenty but that’s as far as the positive comments go. Eaten here twice because I live close. First time round I had a hair on my fish which was unlucky but these things can happy. The other week I went in and the young girl was bleaching the floor whilst the shop was still open. Really over bearing smell. Surely close the shop and then do this. Glad they are hygienic but not a the expense of putting customers off. I got a fish and it actually tasted of detergent. Pretty sure this was down to handling the fish or bread cake and not washing her hands. Needless to say it went in the bin and I shall never return. Fish was terrible and chips are a disaster. Stay clear!

Not good to call in her as it’s on the main Rd to Halifax...but the Fish and Chips are excellent and worth the effort.. other dishes available as well and the prices reasonable. Good mushy peas!

Ordered large chips, one of the tightest portions I've ever recieved. Very greasy burnt chips cooked in what looked like old engine oil, staff looked like they needed a good bath. Yet another typical Yorkshire chip shop, crap won't be going back.

Yes, the portions are big but the fish and chips are so oily! I could have topped up my car with all the oil that was on the food. Not very pleasant.

This is historically a great traditional take away but judging by the food I was given I can only presume the place has changed hands.

Surprised by the bad reviews. Was passing and decided to try some fish and chips having never been to this chippie before. Fish cooked whilst waiting. Lovely food and service was excellent. Definitely the best from Sowerby Bridge.

Second time we have been here having recently moved round the corner - will be the last - very poor - generous portions but cold - chips very scrappy also found one chip had a dark hair embedded in it !!! Server not very friendly either !! So will avoid in future !!

Went today with my partner food is lovely really enjoyed it not a bad word to say about the food we had was lovely! However the staff need to think how they treat customers very unfriendly atmosphere we ordered when it was ready didn't get ask if we wanted it wrapping up or to eat now! Then didn't get asked for salt and vinegar and then when we asked for it to be wrapped up it was wrapped very poor not like they are normally wrapped gravy went everywhere and then when we was leaving we had to place it all in a bag as she just placed it on the counter without asking, she was more bothered about shoving us out of the door! Staff need to think how they treat there customers!

Dropped in tonight for a snack chose the fishcake and the gentleman behind the counter told me I could not have a fishcake on its own... so he gave me a portion of chips! Great food and what fantastic service

Service with a smile?Clean smart uniforms?Polite Friendly staff?Forget it!If you want gluten free fish and chips, they are very nice, but the only serve them until six, so next time I went before six..... "sorry, we don't do gluten free today"As others have stated, food hygiene doesn't seem to be a priority, a bit like customer service. If you go close to closing time, they'll be mopping the floor and will serve you when they are ready (a bit hit and miss with the hand washing too)Having said all that, when I have eaten from there, the food is tasty.

Probably some of the best fish and chips I've eaten, the chip portions are massive and the fish are always a really good size. I've been here roughly 20 times and never had a bad experience.

Disappointing chips very much hit and miss tonight... some hot and some decidedly lukewarm... sausage was ok but their chips are normally top notch!

called in at frienldy fisheries just fancied fish and chips but i wanted chicken and chips.the lady serving us was quite sharp saying got no chicken tell me order all together dont muck about.the fish was ok and the chips were fine but service not good

Been here before and we headed here again... and not disappointed that we did... food was excellent... and staff were friendly... well worth a visit if you are in the area (or a diversion if you are not!)

I find the chips here are always over cooked and browned. Often not soft or full of potato? Very expensive too. Was not impressed.

Visited here on route home and on entry was asked if I wanted fish the server then proceeded to grab a fish from a cupboard dip it in batter and throw it in the fryer... All ok you would think but she was just mopping up and wiping something before I ordered and didn't wash her hands The other server had her hair down no apron and everything was a little untidy.More people came in after me and same service was offered .... Then it was just after 8.15 and they ran out of chips !! So no chips peas or curry sauce fish was to order and it didn't close for another 45 mins .... More people came in and greeted with only fish to order and only small fish too so left ... How ridiculous fish and chip shop with no chips.Not really sure what's happened here as I have been here before .....they were clearing away the whole time I was in there and seemed a burden that me and other customers had even come in... It needs a good clean smart clean overalls and really all the cleaning should be done after closing and between serving please wash your hands especially after taking money.Won't be returning as the fish smelt off when opening so didn't eat it and there was enough chips for four people so could easily have been sold to some other customers. No deals on either so can be expensive if your buying for a family.

Just before noon, midweek, on my way from Hebden to catch the ferry from Hull. I spotted the chippy, pulled over, and ordered one-of-each and tub of mushie peas. Chatting with the owner(?) who'd just holidayed abroad we passed 5 minutes pleasantly. The fish ready, large portion of chips and peas with a freebie butty and I was on my way. Stopped after a few minutes, unwrapped the take-away and had really good meal. Excellent fish, cracking batter and all round value-for-money lunch. Where I live, on the continent, you'd give anything to have a friendly chippy like this! one

Called for Fish and Chips girl taking the money with bare hands also then served the fish and chips into the paper asked the guy in front if he wanted salt and vinegar to which he replied yes so she proceed to pick the fish up with the same hands that had been handling the money and scatter salt on the chips underneath no sorry that's not how it should be done

great fish and chips, but they are very large you could do with one portion between two people or the fish shop should do smaller portions i hate wasting food

stopped for a take away lunch of fish and chips. Ignored for a length of time while food being cooked. Then asked brusquely what I wanted. Noticed the prices on the wall and couldn't believe how expensive they were. restaurant prices in a paper wrap! Bought- hoping for a massive amount of fish and chips - they were like a lot of other similar outlets. Will not be returning.

Called in just as closing for evening after having car breakdown. The fish were not of the same quality as we had previously had and the chips were quite tasteless

Beware if you want a bag of chips. The price board states chips £1:40 when you order they then give you a large bag at £1:70 without asking your preference. When asked you are told they assume large. It is up to you as a customer to tell them otherwise. A simple question asking whether you would like large or small would be good. Then there is the staff!! Please, thank you, have a nice day, thank you for your custom and a smile wouldn't go a mis either. So to the chips themselves. I went in at about 2:30pm the 'large' chips must have been in the pan sometime as they were THE WORST CHIPS EVER. They left that horrible greasy taste in the mouth and tepid warm at the best. After 2 or 3 mouth full the rest went in the bin. If you are in the area try the fish shop on Tuel Lane. They are far and away much better

My mother and father in law were over from the US where they have lived for the past 20 years..... So you can imagine what they are like when the come back to the U.K...... They love fish and chips !!!!!!These were very very very bad!!!!! And very expensive we will never return again !!

Unfortunately I have to say that this is one of the worst fish and chips shops in area. Such a shame, I wished it was a good one as it is so close to where I live and I could consider it as our local fisheries for every fridays. Fish are small, not fresh and chips so greesy. Staff are a bit grumpy and I didn't find them polite. Prices are more expensive than anywhere else in area. You should pay for plastic forks, knifes, suace and etc... . I don't recommend it at all.

Extremely generous. This is our regular Friday evening place. The fish is always cooked to order, so the batter's crisp and the fish not dried out.

Massive portions but not cheap. The shop is open almost always and being on the roadside it's easy to drop in. I am not sure what white fish they sell there, it tastes fine but not haddock ?

Big portions- yes. So much you can't eat it all. Better too much than too little though.Friendly staff??? Errr - not particularly. A bit miserable looking to be honest.The fish and chips- tasted of gone off oil and that's all I could taste with every mouthful. That's the truth. Price- 2 fish and chips £10. Make your own mind up about that, but no amount of food is any good if it tastes stale. Sorry, I was hoping for so much more.

This chip shop is equal first with Crown Fisheries in Hebden Bridge in my opinion. The fish is always cooked to order, no sitting in those warming ovens and very fresh. Chip portions if anything are over generous. As regards Friendly they do Gluten Free batter Wednesday and Saturday, which is a boon to those suffering from coleac disease.

From walking in the door so professional, please and thank you, these days not everyone knows what these words mean but not here a real treat. The food fresh and plentyful, shame its not closer to my home.

really good service, you get plenty of food for your money, the portions were really good and the fish were huge, well worth the money and they do burgers so you can cater for those who don't like/want fish

Have to say we look forward to our visits to Friendly Fisheries - OK was only for a snack but have to say it was MOST yummy! Three scallops (DABS or SCONES to us Lancastrians) on the biggest barm (bread) cake I have ever seen! The wife enjoyed a large portion (big enough for two!) of chips and curry sauce! Would we go out of our way to go there - a BIG YES!

Friendly people serving and lovely fish and chips. One of the best in the area. The fish batter is really nice and that is something im fussy about.

This fish and chip shop has to be the best take away for miles.The fish and chips here are really good,the service is excellent and there is also roadside parking too,handy after a long journey!The servings are generous,and they also cater for the odd folk that prefer something different to take home to eat.Sometimes when our day is just too busy to cook,this is where we would head for.It is in a handy location on the main road,its opening hours are reliable,and the fish and chips are consistently good quality.

On the Burnley Road, at Friendly, 3 miles from Halifax, 1 mile from Sowerby Bridge. Open all day, Every Day! Their haddock in batter, cooked in Yorkshire dripping, is beautiful, every fish cooked freshly and friendly! Do whales come this big? Too many tasty chips. Hot! Hot! Hot!

Been waiting to find the Friendly Fisheries open and yesterday afternoon it was - RESULT! Have to say that their prices are not the cheapest but you cannot complain about the quality. Will we be back - answer is a definitive YES! :)

I have often been told that Yorkshire Fish and Chips cant be beaten, so on a recent visit it would have been rude not to put them to the test. This wasn't the nearest chippy to us in Luddenden but cam recommended by the locals. The menu was simple - simply Fish and Chips, no need to decide which type of fish you want! (there were the usual pies and sausages available for the non fish easter). Fish and Chips cost £5 and was a generous piece of fish and plenty of chips. We arrived about 7.30 in the eventing and everything was freshly cooked to order. A tasty treat.
