Friary in Rotherham

You can’t complain about the lay out of the restaurant they have obviously spent a lot of money on it. The staff are lovely , polite and welcoming but the times I have been in it’s sad to have seen only a few people in . The food isn’t anything g special really , the chips looked re heated and quite sharp and the wait is a little longer than normal . Drinks are also over priced . It won’t stop me going again because I like to support local business and it can get better but they are also up against a lot of competition around the area

Absolutetly awful , will never go again , soggy thick batter , and bright green mushy peas , the lot went in bin , its a shame as its on door step

I must admit I was dubious after looking at reviews, but I was honestly so impressed! The fish was so fresh and we got plenty of chips between us. The staff are so lovely also, thank you!! Will definitely be back soon!

Absolutely the worst fish and chips I've ever tasted. Still can't get rid of the strange taste in my mouth - had to throw it all away. How can you bugger up fish and chips this badly! Not only that, they're expensive! Given it three tries since it opened, won't waste my money again! Much better takeaways etc in the area.

Really good little halloween party for the children please do a Christmas one. 🎄 My children loved it. Especially the balloons Food was lovely too

Fetched my children to the Halloween party on Saturday 28th Oct and it was great so many activities for them to do the balloon modeling and magic man and pumpkincarving was just amazing for them, and all free too the food was great too, the staff was so friendly and helpful too. Never been to this place before but will be back fetching my family and friends along too.. well done staff at the friary xxxx

Just paid our first visit to this place & it definitely will not be our last, a very clean & well kept place, the food & service provided by Stacey & Leanne was superb.

The fish was horrrible ,thick stodgy batter , will not go again , went in the bin , the peas were awful and ive never seen gravy as thick

Firstly we was greeted and shown to our table by a member of staff (lady) didn't catch her name she too, our orders and was so lovely with our little boy. The food was amazing so nice and filling.. even little boy commented how lovely it was. We will definitely be back and recommending to others it was Monday we came this week

There was only one other party in the placement took forever to order then a further long wait for our starters over 40 mins or longer and the mains were over an hour after during all this no check backs to see if we need anything and the one major issue was clearly the chips had clearly been reheated i would steer well clear certainly not a place i will never ever visit again

Visited with friends, had haddock, jacket potato and curry of which was very nice and very good priced at £10! All the interior was lovely. Only downside was that they had no cod or plaice . Will definitely visit again

There’s clearly a lot of hard work gone into this please. The interior was nice and quirky, the food was lovely and portion sizes were fantastic, and the service was great. Would recommend to anyone!

The thing that surprises you most is that although The Friary and The Station appear to be separate entities from outside , once you get through the doors it becomes clear that this is an integrated fish and chip restaurant. This wasn’t a problem for our early evening sitting , but for a venue that describes itself as a bar and restaurant ,the casual drinks crowd might not warm to it , particularly with the early closing time of 9pm. Having said that , what it does do , it does well. An impressive refurbishment of the old Station Hotel has created a light and modern venue with an intimate feel. Our party of twelve was easily accommodated in a space which enabled the chat to flow easily between bites of the delicious and ample portions. Fish and Chips of various description is the house speciality , but other meals are available , along with a range of starters and desserts , complemented by a fully licensed bar. Bookings can be made online , but the system only allows for a party up to twelve , so we had to make a separate contact with them to ensure that space was reserved for our larger party. The staff were pleasant and attentive and we did not have to wait long before we were “tucking in” … Certainly worth a visit…but don’t go late 😉

Booked a table for 5 people .the service was fantastic very friendly staff .beautifully decorated inside and most of all fantastic food I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone ,the best fish and chip restaurant I've been in and I've been in quite a few

Me and my partner went for a meal and I can say the mealwas loverly and I would do it again and the staff was great

The property is very nice however the food was very poor. The fish was over cooked almost like it had been cooked twice and was absolutely tasteless. Not worth the money and won’t be returning. Got charges £1 for 1 slice of bread and the...

Called in for takeaway lunch. Chips not cooked, no fish as no delivery! Lady serving was lovely. Was disappointing as we've been wanting to try it here for a while. Hope they up their game!

Unimpressed by the fish…… poor quality, Think I’ve been spoilt by 30 years on the coast. Chips and peas were nice but won’t be going back based on the fish.
