Found this hidden gem, just a walk from my house, read reviews, and decided to go, and it did not disappoint, the food was excellent, service was brilliant and prices were very good, the food was outstanding, my husband said, it's the best steak and ale pie he has ever had. A well earned lunchtime pint after a hot day working outdoors. Stumbled on the pub today, actually not far from us, cannot believe we had never known of it. Beautiful garden and the inside was immaculate. We didn't eat today but we will, definately will make this a regular place to go from now on, also very friendly staff on bar.

Fabulous, delicious home-cooked food by Phil. We can thoroughly recommend the steak and ale pie and the roast dinners are delicious. The front of house service is complimented by Rob’s friendly and efficient service. A hidden gem.

Our family (2 adults with 7 yr old) visited for dinner. Such a friendly welcome from the moment we stepped on the premises. Despite not booking, we were found a table in the restaurant, and had a lovely meal. Food was fantastic! Lots of options and amazing dessert to follow - clearly all made from scratch. Would definitely recommend a visit (prob best to book!) if you are nearby.

We had the best pub meal here ever last Saturday, Barman and Chef were so friendly it made our night. Fish and chips were beautiful and I asked for roasties instead of chips which wasn't a problem. Wine lovely and reasonably priced. Peas were fresh which is unusual in restaurants these days. Wish we could have managed dessert but were stuffed. Staying at campsite nearby and they recommended it, abit of a trek down a dual carriageway but well worth the walk, will return when in the area for sure.

Feel lucky to have found this little gem as they have no social media profile. It's what a pub should be, friendly and welcoming. It's slightly off the beaten track but I would not hesitate to go back as the food was delicious. Good old fashioned pub grub, well cooked and good portions. Staff were very friendly. Two main courses, 1 dessert and 4 drinks for well under £50 - what's not to like!

Had some great meals here. The food is good, home cooked fare. We thoroughly enjoyed the roasted cod, bbq chicken, steak, scampi, gammon and for pudding sherry trifle, chocolate fudge cake, crumble, cheesecake and spotted dick. The only meal that wasn't quite as nice was the burger and the steak while lovely was slightly overdone but otherwise the food was faultless. The welcome is very warm and friendly and we can't wait to go back. Dying to try the roasts and the lemon meringue pie which have such great reviews. Love this pub!

This pub, on the old Shipney road is a gem. No frills decor, but the staff were engaging and amenities were spotless. Such an extensive menu, and liked that there was an offer of smaller dishes. I personally had the chicken curry, which was packed with chicken, whilst others in my part had the scampi and ham(proper) egg and chips. The desserts ask had me salivating, but only had room for one. The landlord/chef cleaner, and chief bottle washer even visited the table and shared anecdotes. The barman was very tentative and noticed drink was empty and came to ask if refill was required. All in all. Great Food, staff, and facilities are very clean. Revisit??? 100%..

We have lived in Bognor Regis for only 10 months or so and we have made a point of visiting local hostelries to find the best pubs for food and ambience. The Friary Arms has proved itself over and over to be our absolute favourite. The food is all freshly cooked using fresh ingredients, the portions are generous and the prices are very reasonable. There is a good wide selection of dishes - nothing overly fussy or 'gastro-pub' here, but honest, home cooked, hearty food, cooked to perfection. Desserts are really good and the cakes are amazing, you can take a slice or two home with you if you don't have room after your dinner! As an ale drinker and member of CAMRA I can say that the beer is kept very well indeed. The Sea Fury I had today was perfect. The staff are excellent, Rob leads his front of house team very well and is so easy-going and friendly with all the customers, most of whom seem to be regular visitors. All the staff are lovely and the owner/chef should be very proud of them and his management of the pub. They have no website, they really don't need one, repeat custom and personal recommendation ensure they are always busy. You need to book in advance for Sunday lunch as they are always full. I can't recommend this pub highly enough - we know we will always get great food, great service, great ale and a great atmosphere. If I had to find a down side it is that they are not currently open for food on Mondays or Tuesdays.

After calling up to book a table I was asked how many for and adults or kids? I have myself and 4 girls aged 11-13 so not little. They said fully booked. I chanced it as I felt that they may of just said no because they thought the kids were young and perhaps they have standard where they don’t want hectic. I turned up and it was empty just one man having his dinner and a few drinking. I had to look for staff. He said “we don’t take kids in here after 5.30!” Then he pretended to go off and ask a manager (I think he was the manager) and said “there’s no chef” to which I turned to the guy eating and said “who cooked yours, the cleaner?” Absolute joke avoid at all costs. I wonder why they can’t have kids and can’t be straight with me. Odd.

I have eaten at this pub/restaurant a number of times and have never been disappointed. Although food is only served Wednesday to Sunday, I recommend that you book, as it does get full. I last visited in mid February for a Sunday Roast beef dinner and it was excellent, so much meat and the vegetables were cooked to perfection. At under £10 the value was exceptional. I have often had fish & chips here and they I to die for. The fish is so big and I always ask for a big bowl of tartar sauce. When I do forget my waist line and go for the pudding, there is a wide choice. I had jelly & ice cream the other day, recently had spotted dick, V. Good.Phil the owner & brilliant chef, puts on specialty nights, I have already booked up for the "School Dinner Night" in a couple of weeks, 2 courses for a tenner. You are also requested to book up for Mother's Day as tables are going fast.To sum up please give it a try, you will return time and again, to sample to chose from the excellent menu, that Phil writes up fresh everyday.

Went here for the first time with my family and brother, he had travelled down to see us and wanted to take us all out for lunch. I had heard other people talking about how nice there Sunday roasts were so I took a chance to try it. We were not disappointed with what was served to us all, the food came out really quickly and was steaming hot and plates overflowing with food. Excellent value for money £7.99 for a normal roast or £8.99 for a mixture of all meats. I would definitely recommend this pub to anyone.
