always a great place to eat, been going here for a few years now, and have never been disappointed, looking forward to our next visit

Very good quality fish and chips. The chips are made with real freshly chipped potatoes. The fish is fried to order and never reheated. Good portions and friendly service. Worth a visit or take away.

We stumbled upon this great place a few years ago and have always found the food and service to be of the highest quality. Fish always freshly cooked, lots of choice, proper chip shop chips and friendly staff. Have taken friends and family, would highly recommend

I thought i would try Fresh Fry as my local was closed due to a family bereavement. The fish crumbled when i cut into it which is usually a sign that the fish was frozen and not fresh. Th chips were ok and the mushy peas was too hot (a sign that it was microwaved), very runny and no taste. I now remember why i stopped buying from here in the first place.

Back again, one of the best fish and chip shop in Barnet, and I don't even live in the area allways fresh fish and tastey golden chips , see you latter guys

My partner and I dropped by for a little bit of food as it is on the way to my night job. We weren’t too hungry, but were peckish and craving for fish and chips. We decided to order just 1 and we’ll share (most probably I would have just taken 2 bites of fish and pick some chips. We were sat down and we ordered 1 cod with chips (£13.00), 2 drinks. When my partner ordered, he mentioned to the waitress that we’ll order only 1 and that we’ll just share, as we weren’t too hungry. The waitress, then on selling us the sharer platter (£19.90) with haddock, plaice and cod. But we only wanted cod and it’d probably too big for us. So we declined. The waitress then called who appears to be the owner from the take away section of the restaurant. And we were told by the ‘owner’ we are not allowed to share an order. We were speechless, this is a restaurant for goodness sake not a dormitory!! Or prison cafe!! Nor an eat all you can to have a ridiculous no sharing policy. Ridiculous!! Absolutely Ridiculous. They lost a revenue for a 30 minute or less sitting (let us not count the revenue for the fish and chips, but the revenue for the drinks which I supposed is higher), plus they have lost a RETURNING CUSTOMER!!! Less than a month ago we were there as we were hungry and not rushing, we ordered 2 full meals and extras and drinks. But never will we ever again! Just Ridiculous!

I have purchased fish and chips from Fresh Fry a couple of times. It arrived nice and hot. The chips and fish were fresh and well-cooked with crispy batter. Mushy peas piping hot. We had haddock and a substantial portion was delivered so very good value for money. The delivery guy was very polite and courteous. These are southern fish and chips and quite excellent. I am from the north of England and things are a bit different there. So if Fresh Fry made proper Northern-style fish with no skin, it would be even better. Hehe. Very delicious all the same. And we had pudding too. Thank you.

Here I am again. Please see my previous review of 2013 Haven't been here for a ling time due to Covid and social distancing in cinemas. As good as ever.... if anything the portions are larger but just as delicious. Very good value. Nice place - lovely chips If you visit by 5.00pm you get 20% off your total Order. I do agree there was a bleach smell when we arrived but overall it was nice

the quality of the meal was of the highest standard, fish tasted like it had just been caught. prior to the main meal one is served with a salad. the ambiance is pleasant and witth good service. A extensive Menu makes it all a an enjoyable visit.

We had a wonderful meal tonight at Fresh Fry. 14 of us went to celebrate my Dads birthday. We all thoroughly enjoyed our respective dinners. The service was excellent. Pauline served us and she was great and so accommodating. We will all be going back and would highly recommend this restaurant.

Following a visit to this restaurant I would say definitely don’t bother. The miserable waitress rushing us to order Rushing us to finish and order deserts and coffee well before stated closing time and actually moping the floor with disinfectant smelling water while we were sitting eating and telling me I wouldn’t get coffee if I didn’t order within 5 mins as the machine was being turned off

The name of this restaurant “FRESH” definitely does NOT reflect some of the food served The fish was dry and tasteless The new potatoes were old and soggy The service was atrocious - absolutely terrible - the food was all but thrown at us…… waiting staff who clearly would rather be somewhere else This is my first visit back after many years - it will most certainly be my LAST EVER One redeeming comment - the Turkish salad was passable

We have been to this restaurant many times and have never been disappointed. In particular the grilled salmon is amazing. Fantastic service too - even though we only go there every couple of months, they always remember us.

The food was gorgeous no complaints there. My only problem was being unable to pay by Debit card. A customer in front of me had the same problem lucky he knew a member of staff and was allowed to pay in the restaurant. Surely with all the muggings in Barnet recently we try to not take much cash out with us. I hope the restaurant understands get a card machine.

Went after visiting the nearby 'Everyman' Cinema. Fresh well prepared fish and Chips in decent portions. Clean and bustling interior with a 'Turkish' feel. The service was quick, friendly and attentive. Competitively priced.

Freshly cooked haddock in a light (not stodgy) batter with a large portion of chips. My Mum and I shared one portion between the two of us as it was more than enough for two people and we didn't even finish all of the chips. The staff were cleaning round just before 9pm on a Saturday night when we ordered a takeaway, not because they were closing, but because they were keeping the takeaway side clean. Enjoyed the meal along with some sharp and sweet pickled cucumbers (also bought from there).

Went to this restaurant last Friday, firstly got put on the large table with other people when there were so many other tables empty in the restaurant. For 2 pieces of cod and chips £28.00, this is far too expensive for just a fish and chip shop, also we would have liked to be able to sit just on a table for 2 or 4. We ordered tea which tasted stewed and a very small cup. I would pay less money than this in the West End of London. This fish shop used to be okay but I think Whetstone must have gone to their head, will NOT return.

The fish and chips here are excellent and there is a very reasonably priced lunchtime menu (which extends to 4pm!) with about 6 delicious choices, including jacket potatoes. The restaurant is just lovely with white tablecloths with blue centrepieces and gleaming cutlery. You are greeted, as you look at the menu, with a delicious little salad. All the staff are welcoming and friendly. This cafe is right next to the Barnet Everyman cinema so it may be a good idea to book. We were eating there at lunchtime today and heard staff turning people away who wanted to eat at 19.30, because it is fully booked this Saturday evening. Lovely place to enjoy delicious fish and chips!

I ordered the large Haddock and chips. Worth the wait as it turned out to be a large fish. Excellent taste and the fish just melted in my mouth, very good quality, which the restaurant prides itself on. My friend also enjoyed her meal of Cod and chips.

I really like fish and chips here, but waiting time kills me. They need to solve this problem. Fishes and tartar sauce is great. Clean and they need to smile more while serving.

We have used the takeaway service several times which is always nice but last week had the opportunity to eat in. There were 4 of us and we got seated straight away.Wow.... the portions were huge!We had a regular fish n chips, a calamari main, a grilled salmon and a grilled sea bass. With a drink each and a couple of sides... plus a tzaziki the bill came to about £80 which we thought reasonable - more or less £20 each.I have taken a couple of photos of the grilled fish.... I don’t think they do it justice as the plates are also massive!Would definitely return (to eat in).

We visit every two to three weeks for Sunday lunch. The set menu of a full size battered cod and chunky chips, salad and drink costs around £8.00 and is excellent value. Recommended to all.

We visited for the second time two weeks ago. We went with another couple of friends. It was lucky we booked as it was packed at 20.15. Good buzz ..mainly older people ...did not see any families or kids. My friend saw a salad he liked someone else got on a big plate. We got complimentary salad which was good before the meal. He wanted that one but only a small portion. He could not have a small portion...so had a big one. How hard is it to reduce on to a smaller plate and charge half price!? So we had a too and thro but they would not give in! So he had to have a big portion! Anyway, the service was very good and the food was very good and excellent. I usually have fish and chips as it is a treat. However our friend went for the grilled plaice. I did the same....it was the BEST I have EVER had!! So tasty...moist..large portion..more salad and new potatoes. My wife had the goujons and chips. She loved them and it was huge portion.We did not have a starter as the portions are huge. We fancied dessert but were so full. However, the restaurant did give us a dessert to share on the house, with our coffees...lemon tea and mint tea. My only point to let you know is on the two occasions we visited, they were ready to close by 10.30pm. We were second last this time and last last time to leave! It is understandable but customers should never feel rushed as it spoils a good night.My recommendation...go there. It is fantastic for fish but book!

Four of us went on a Sunday night. Food was fantastic. I had the grilled haddock and chips. Faultless and large portion. Very reasonable price too. Staff were excellent and friendly. Good service. Highly recommend but you need to book a table as pretty crowded.

Visited the restaurant for an early tea. I had haddock and chips with mushy peas. My wife had fish cakes and chips. The food was excellent. Only gripe was the cost and size of the portion of peas, £2.40 for a very small dish.

Making a first visit,I was pleased with the look and cleanliness of the restaurant. The service was excellent and friendly,and the fish and chips was top quality. A free salad was served with meal and a small cake each at the end. Excellent menu and you had a good selection of how you wanted cook. Can't wait to return.

we came after visiting a friend in barnet hospital,we have had takeaway and have sat in the reastaurant before.when we arrived it was quite busy,we were shown to a table and ta waitress took our order.i had the salmon with chips and salad and my partner had the haddock and chips.the food is very good but the service after we finished was appalling.our waitress was busy re setting the table for the next day instead of clearing our plates.we called the male server over so we could pay the bill,he brought the credit card machine over and when i asked him to clear the plates,he said he would,this isnt accepatble,it was obvious we had finished,when a meal comes to over £20 i expect better service!also the chairs are in a disgusting state,the all need reupholstering!

The staff were really nice very friendly, being a Friday night you had to wait which was not a problem but the food was really tasteless, the cod, sorry you could not even taste it was cod, the chips were under cooked.

My usual Fish and Chip shop in Chesterfield Rd was closed this evening so decided to drive down to the odeon as previously we had had decent food from this establishment ... Wish we hadn't wasted the petrol.... The fish looked very very well done and other customers commented on this too ... To which we were told " we sell this all day and never get complaints" whatever happened to customer opinion! I bought a savaloy which was totally tasteless ... A sausage which was like mush in a skin... The cod didn't taste like cod and smelt of urine ... The chips were passable... Won't be going back and I thoroughly recommend the chip shop in Chesterfield road ..

Not sure if there has been a change of ownership, but four of us went for Sunday lunch. Have visited several times before, previously good. There were three staff (a man and two women) "serving", if you could call it that. They were all totally non-attentive and unfriendly. They brought each of us a poor excuse of a salad, tasteless wilting lettuce leaves with smidgeons of tomato and black olives...my wife's salad had a sizeable fragment of glass in it. We called over a waitress and pointed it out and asked her to take it away. What do you think she said? Sorry? That's unfortunate?

For less than £16, soup, large cod and chips, apple pie and ice cream and a soft drink. So other than the fish and chips the starter and dessert are very average, and the service is functional rather than particularly friendly, but for what you get for what you pay, it’s churlish to moan

Nice place to chill out on your own or with family and friends. There is a sitdown restaurant which is child-friendly, and they have a takeaway section separately. Best chips!

Por desgracia nuestra última visita en ser el tiempo ladt deed que visitamos. Teníamos una preciosa mesa para 14, Llegamos con expectativas altas. Por desgracia la solla en el hueso fue quemada más allá de reconocimiento, Dover Sole & Cod era pappy y no tenía sabor. Las Tartas salsa servedvwith era muy gruesos de asesorarse sobre la jarra se pudo celebrar al revés y no se mueve! Patatas fritas bien digamos casi tantas volvimos que sirvieron. En uno de los mejores del año, no nightsbof cerveza, no limonada. Postres no baklava! ! Así que tuvimos una tarta de nuestro propio y no podíamos haber que porque sólo tenían platos calientes para servir una tarta de crema! ! Así que volví a casa con nosotros.

Una conversación improvisada con el propietario revelaba su dedicación y pasión por la obtención de pescado fresco cada día, y su pescado en freír estrictamente aceite limpio. We went as a family to get a takeaway this place was recommended by a few people so we through we would try it got our food went home the fish was really nice but the chips were old and horrible to eat did not like at all they gave me a pie out of date which ended in January the savoloys were out of colour you could tell it was off really did not enjoy it waste of my money please check your pie dates.

It's several years since I last ate at Fresh Fry, but having passed by it several times, i was tempted back when a friend suggested a fish and chip lunch.We both ordered battered cod and chips and, while we waited for our order, the waitress brought us each a fresh green salad. The main course followed shortly afterwards and was perfectly cooked and a very large portion. We both had a lemon tea and the waitress then brought us - unasked - a small dessert of two delicious rum babas...or could they have been gulab jamun ? Whichever, they were just right for rounding off a delicious fish and chip lunch....and all for £7.50 per head! Great value.

Most of the time they have nice yellow normal chips . ONLY ONE BOX WAS LOVELY AND YELLOW AND NOT AT ALL OVER COOKED. The other 4 large and 1 med were revolting, really ugly brown and overcooked. Had to bin them. REALLY ANGRY that someone actually has the brass neck to hand these to a regular/ or any customer. My adult son went in to get them and when he came in he said 'there is just one nice box' of course he should have refused them. SO angry. Such a waste of money and when you are starving and looking forward to fish and chips and then you get cxxp chips. So wrong. Yes rang up to complain but at the end of the day it's too late when your meal is ruined.

We dined at Fresh Fry last night and we quite disappointed with the meal as it was well below the usual standard of quality that we are accustomed to from them. The fish was much smaller and less meaty. The service was good. Hopefully it was a one off and they will resume their normal standards as would be such a shame to see then standard of food decline as its the best place in North London to have fish and chips and in my opinion the best i London for Dover Soles.

Yes I think the best and chips around not greasy at all and the fish is always top quality. Have eaten in their restaurant always very busy.especially Fridays. Mainly I go for Take Away. Usually quick service.

We arrived about 4.30 and as a bonus discovered there was a daytime special deal. Those of us who had the standard fish enjoyed it, but those who had the grilled fish were delighted - it was really excellent. No room for dessert though - the portions were large!!

Excelent fish, you can have it fried in matzah meal or batter, your choice, the chips are very nice and recommend only one portion between two, had a take away and it exceeded my expectations, highly recommend it ,best in the area, dont be a wally and go elsewhere

We usually dine here every Friday evening - very rare that food is nothing but excellent. Good value, friendly and attentive staff. Have taken a number of friends with us on occasions - all enjoyed their meals very much.

We left the Everyman cinema next door feeling elated having seen "La La Land". We were a party of three feeling very hungry so we dived into "Fresh 'N' Fry" next door. We were welcomed warmly by the (Proprietor?) Manager. However, the restaurant was full and buzzing. We were invited to take a seat next to the fish-fryers, and he said a table would be free in a few minutes. His word was good and very quickly we were taken to our table (we hadn't booked). We all opted for the set-menu at £14.70 for main fish-dish (two of us had cod and the other haddock), and dessert. The fish was cooked in matzomeal which suited our taste. Dishes were served quickly. The portions were large and very hot - great!. A choice of mixed ice creams and/or fruit salad followed. We all enjoyed our fish dishes and cleansed the palate with the desserts. Our experience here was great and we will certainly return, even if we don't visited "The Everyman" David

I booked a table for 29th December directly through the restaurant's website booking function. We were greeted with friendliness and asked which table we wanted. I was helped off with my coat. A good start. My husband ordered haddock in matzoh meal, while my son and I both ordered cod goujons. All of the dishes came on huge plates, filled to the edge with fish and chips, as well as salads served on separate plates. We also ordered an extra dish of onion rings and cold slaw. The fish was flaky and tender. The cold slaw and tartar sauce were very nice. The onion rings weren't unpleasant but they weren't real rings of battered and fried fresh onion, more like onion-flavoured rings of dough. Despite the excellent taste of the food, we couldn't finish more than half of each portion and asked to take them home. We were brought 3 Takeaway boxes to pack up our food. The entire bill came to £36, which was a great deal, considering that we were able to make an entire second meal of the leftovers. (The fish and chips both crisped up again beautifully on a baking sheet in a hot oven. ) Upon asking for the bill, we were brought a small dish of what the server called donuts on a bed of squirty cream and syrup. They weren't to our taste, being sodden and flavourless, but the gesture was nice. I was then helped on with my coat, thanked by 3 members of staff and wished a Happy New Year and had the door held open for us as we left. The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff is certainly better than some of the reviews we have read here. I would definitely return.

Food is always good here, both take-away and eating in. But one male member of staff is just miserable and seems to think every request should be refused. Luckily other staff are fine. In fact one elderly chap was quite charming and looked after my wife, who was on crutches,after the 1st waiter had shown no interest at all in finding a suitable place for her to sit. Normally get a take away and the food is always pretty good and have never been disappointed. Suspect a lot of reviews would be far more positive if this chap cheered up a bit. Lunch time menu is excellent value.

We have visited and taken all our friends to this restaurant for many years and it's always been fabulous. Our visit tonight was the worst service ever. Food as good as always but the salad didn't arrive until the fish came. Empty tartare sauce and ketchup on the table. Where is the lovely boss and his son.? Don't let a wonderful place go down, it's too special

I have never had a bad meal here, the food is always of a good standard, the portions are huge.The only downer for me is the staff, they always look so miserable, they are generally unfriendly, it would be nice if they smiled as you walked in, and not look like you have inconvenienced them when you want to order.That aside, still a great place

I have had many take a way from Fresh Fry it is simple the best fish and chip shop in the area, if you don't believe me just try it, it has a restaurant as well but I've never eaten in it.

I have heard many times how good the Fresh Fry is so took my chance last week while passing to grab a takeaway. We ordered on portion of fish goujons and chips which was enormous. The fish and chips were both hot and crispy, served in a pizza box style container. The fish was light and soft and flaky under its crisp coating of natter. There were no packets or cups of sauces so we had to squirt them into the corners of the box, which inevitably got messy. Nevertheless we agreed on how good the food was. We will definitely return.

Have had numerous take aways from here. This is top quality fish & chips, never fails to disappoint. Everything is cooked fresh and portions are generous. Best one in the area no doubt.

I am confused with the reviews for this place, some love it and some hate it. From my experience, the food was tasty, well cooked and the portions were generous. The service wasn't fantastic but nothing I would complain about. As for the atmosphere of the place, I didn't have a complaint either - it's nothing great but this is a fish & chips place - and for that matter one that doesn't stink of frying. Would I go again? Yes, nothing to complain about and good food.

Staff inadequate, service inadequate, over priced for what it is. Outdated concept, you get better service at your local fish and chip take away.They present you with a salad, which is actually chopped up lettuce and the odd cube of tomato. HmmFish frozen not totally day fresh. When it was presented to me, removed batter and it was wet inside. Not nice.Kids choice was limitied to the old fashion nuggets and chips (really)They had no fresh fruit salad for desert or starters. This fish restaurant used to be excellent but our last two visits it had gone very much down hill. The last visit was two weeks ago on a Sunday evening and the previous visit was on a Saturday evening. On both occasions, especially the Sunday it was about a third full and the Saturday, it was not even half full. The service was not that good, 'take it or leave it type of attitude'. Although their portions were extremely large, they are now getting smaller and its obvious. It is such a shame to see such a good place go the way this is. The definitely need air conditioning, not even fans installed in the ceiling. It became unbearable after a short while. We will sadly not be going back. On our way home we looked at a few other restaurants and they were nearly all full!. That is how Fresh Fry used to be.

Extremely poor service from front of house (small man with glasses). Booked a table for 8.30 only to turn up and be told that there was no table available, but a table for 6 was quite clearly free. He made us wait for 15 minutes and kept the table of 6 vacant. At no point did they realise they had forgot our booking. Extremely bad service as no one acknowledged their mistake nor attempted to find a solution.

very rude staff and managementwe were 3 of us with my mum and dad and we wanted to order 2 meal set menu, the staff told us that we cannot share our food and we HAVE to order 3 of them. the manager came in and the waiter told him our request but he refused and shout and go inside again,he was so ugly.I will never go there again!

We were desperate for a decent fish and chip takeaway - our local one has dropped its 5 hygiene rating down to 2.Not only has Fresh Fry got its 5 out of 5 hygiene rating, but the fish is superb too. We phoned in our order and the staff were ready for us, except of course the Chips which came fresh out the fryer. We had fried fish and grilled salmon, all of which were cooked to perfection. The salads were crisp and lots of it and the chips were amazing.The staff were friendly and polite. We will definitely be travelling the extra 10 minutes for our Fish and Chips in future. The extra time is worth it particularly as the fish was still hot when we got back home.

Sitting here sipping my Turkish coffee with 6 men , all of whom arrived starving hungry with enormous appetites I have to smile. They have had such fantastic fish and chips, with whale size portions, mushy peas and gherkins the poor things don't have room for desserts !!My husband and I are regulars and have 5 friends with us. They didn't believe us when we told them how good Fresh Fry is but they do now. Always the best fresh fish. I have grilled sole , my husband has haddock fried in matzah meal and some of the others had fish in batter All superb. Has to be visited to be believed and with set price menus excellent value for money The staff are always friendly and helpful and the lace is generally buzzing. They also have a great take away section Not to be missed. Book soon !!

We eat here regularly and last night we arrived 5 mins before closing time. We received the usual warm welcome and were seated at a spotlessly clean window table with lovely table cloth and a full range of condiments. We had new green cucumbers and onion rings as our starter, then my husband had a huge cod in batter and chips. I ordered haddock and new potatoes, but was delighted to find a few chips on my plate. Both fish were freshly cooked and my haddock was melt in the mouth delicious. I really recommend this restaurant as it does not use frozen fish, the salads are also generous size and tasty. The chips are crisp and not greasy. This is the nearest to healthy eating that a treat can be!We will be back soon.

Decided to visit last week after the cinema.we had a bad experience with this restaurant some years ago when they denied that I had made a booking but finally gave it another try.However the experience was underwhelming, fish was watery and top heavy on batter andthe chips seemed stale. I subsequently had stomach problems which may or may not have been attributable to the freshness of my fish.Service was pleasant and included a complimentary dessert of baklava.We will not be going back

Visited the best fish and chip shop EVER with friends this evening. Nice white table cloths. delightful staff and absolutely fantastic food. The set dinner comprised a starter salad followed by taramasalata and pitta bread, then the haddock in matzoh meal which was huge, cooked to perfection and full of flavour with far too many delicious chips than it was possible to eat. Baclava and an excellent range of desserts next - I had chilled rice pudding and a hot or cold drink is included. This restaurant has truly spoilt me for going anywhere else

I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. The food is simply delicious, service first class and the staff very friendly. We had haddock and chips with a nice bottle of wine, the fish was melt in the mouth. Will definitely be going back soon. 10/10.

Excellent Fish and Chips are given at this restaurant. The Chips are crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle and not greasy. I tend to have chicken nuggets and these are always excellent a good taste and practically non greasy. The Fish comes in big portions and Matzo meal is fine if you are watching your chlorestrol.

I popped in for a sit down meal and it was a good decision.Cod & chips plus mushy peas,perfection on a plate.The fish was cooked so that it was flakey but still moist,and the chips were not greasey but light and crisp.The place was packed at 6-30 so the locals know a good thing when they see it and who can blame them. Service was prompt and friendly.Proper linen tablecloths was a nice touch and the homely atmosphere was very welcoming.Lots of chatter from very satisfied customers.
