Fredwell in The Vale of Glamorgan

I was with a friend and we both chose the same thing Croque Madam on October 7. Was a lovely day and a super location so we sat outside. I ordered my CM without mozzarella cheese. My friends CM arrived all nice and toasted but mine was pale and smeared on the top with bechamel sauce which gave it a soggy top and didn’t even look toasted. I looked inside mine and managed to eat some of the bottom bread and a few of the mushrooms but the whole thing didn’t have any flavour. The chef had even forgotten to add Dijon mustard to mine, I knew this as my B sauce was pure white and my friends was yellow. Never seen two of the same dishes look so different and wasn’t to do with the mozzarella. I could hardly eat it so returned the enclosed plate to the she lady who had served us but she was now sitting comfortably on a nice chair on her phone. I explained the above to her, no offer of a refund or part refund, she could see i had hardly eaten anything she just said she would tell the chef. Shocking to pay and leave hungry.

I visited Fredwell's with a group of friends. The food service was really slow, having ordered our food and waiting about 20 minutes they then told us one of the order needed to be changed. Then, one of our meals for our party came followed with another 15 minute delay for the others to be served. I ordered the salad described as "MANY Leaves, chick peas, lentils, seeds, nuts, cous cous and a few other ingredients. I asked for the vegan option. The salad came with several items missing and no explanation - namely missing - NO leaves, no chickpeas, no lentils, no seeds, no nuts. I highlighted to the man serving straight away. I also showed him the menu and all the items missing explaining it was far from description on menu, very dry, with the bread served with it very dry as well. He agreed that the meals were far from adequate. I'm amazed that they are prepared to offer food with so many main ingredients missing with no explanation offered at the time. Very disappointing experience. The man serving did go through transaction of offering me a refund rather than a replacement. I've not seen on my account yet but assume will go through the next few days. He was polite and very apologetic. They did appear understaffed. I noticed there were other unhappy customers as well.

Overpriced and a big disappointment, pancakes were dry with a tiny bit of honey and berries. The American pancakes were not fresh, would have liked fresh English ones. Will not be revisiting!

This was my third visit. I so want to love this place, the decor and particularly the art for sale on the walls, are alll lovely. However, it's very pricey and I think food wise it's a case of style over substance and trying to be different just for the sake of it. I hope the owner/manager will take feedback in the constructive manner it's meant. The croque monsieur I ordered was luke warm and the bread not toasted enough. Previously I'd ordered the pancakes with berries and cream...again quality of the food was not reflected in the steep.price...berries very sharp and arrived minus the cream! Forage just along the A48 is nuch better in value and taste. Fredwells need to.up their game if they're in it for the long haul!

Made the mistake of going here for breakfast with my partner and his brothers. Looking at the menu we thought the breakfasts were pricey but didn’t mind paying if the food was good. We ordered 3 full breakfast @ £14 each and Avocado on toast @ £12. Issues with the full English - poached egg hard, toast rock hard not pleasant to eat , homemade beans were luke warm butter beans in a very bland sauce with herbs the mushrooms were shrivelled and dry. Fried potatoes were hard in the middle Sausage ok. The Avocado on toast -.Toast rock hard, literally mashed avocado with no other ingredients. To enhance flavour, Tomato was just a sliced tomato, mixed salad garnish had seen better days as some of the dark leaves slimy and green leaves turning yellow. tea and coffee ok. Food brought to table no cutlery or instruction where to obtain. Two members of party ate their breakfast reluctantly after covering in brown sauce, one left the majority, and I left half the toast and the gone off lettuce leaves. At first we were going to chalk it up to experience and not go there again, but as the food was so awful and I could overhear other people complaining I decided to speak to the manager about the quality of the food. He offered to replace the food, but it was. NOT good enough to eat the first time so refused. I went back to my table but then realised that one member had not been able to eat hardly any of his food due to the quality. I took his plate as evidence to the manager and asked for a refund for that meal. At which point he offered me a full refund if I left immediately. He was rude and still did not apologise for the poor quality and dining experience. He held the door open as we left and slammed it behind us in some sort of show of bravado. A family who came in behind us also returned some of their food and left shortly after. I also noticed other diners had left the majority of their cooked food. Breakfast food quality awful and poor attitude of manager, I would definitely NOT recommend a visit to Fredwells Cafe at Pant Wilkins Stables, Cowbridge.

Lovely sandwich, superb service and really good staff. Coffee was great as was location (well off the road so look carefully).

Lush food, great value, amazing styling, fantastic hosts and the best playlist for our Continentalish breakfast. Would highly recommend

Nestled in beautiful countryside just outside Cowbridge, Fredwell really is a hidden gem! It has a peaceful outside seating area and a cosy bistro with a fabulous interior! My teenage son and I visited today and received a wonderful welcome from the staff. We sat in the bistro which is surrounded by wonderful artwork and has a really quirky vibe. We ordered chicken & waffles and a chicken salad. The service was spot on, the food was absolutely delicious and the portions were very big. The rest of the menu looks fantastic and apparently, they also do specials in the evening. I'm sure we will be heading back soon.

Went for breakfast this weekend and it was lovely. The mocha was probably my favourite one I’ve ever had and the French toast was to die for! The restaurant was lovely and clean and the staff were great. Will definitely go again soon.

Fredwell what a Gorgeous countryside cafe . Firstly we were welcomed with a beautiful warm smile from staff on entering and asked where we’d like to sit . We chose to sit at the sofa area in the front of cafe as it seemed more relaxing for a works coffee . At Fredwell they offer some delicious teas and coffees , I decided to go for the cream brûlée. And I have to say it was delicious. Everyone was friendly and smiling ,the coffees / teas ( I can’t remember what the others drank ) arrived quickly with no complaints. The cake 🎂 display looked amazing and I really wish I’d tried one . But will be back again soon to taste the cakes and the smoked teas .

Breakfast was absolutely terrible, food was luke warm and some items were completely cold. Absolutely terrible service from who I think was the owner of the premises. when I suggested my goat on French was supposed to come with 2 pieces of toast with goats cheese as that’s what the chef has prepared for me before, the owner told me to fu*k off. Absolutely appalling and I never expected to be approached with such vile behaviour.

Coffee good, not a huge menu but the pancakes, bacon and Brie good and substantial. I do wonder why the menu has to be so small when the room at the rear is so dark. I had one person with me who is partially sighted a complete disaster for them with such low lighting. I did notice however other diners having the same issue so I don’t think I am alone on this. You might have it on a screen where you order but why hand out menus that are so difficult to read? If you have only one toilet why not make it a disabled one. Why is there no phone number for any of the places on the website what happens if you get lost or are late no means of letting you know. This isn’t a place you drive past it has to be somewhere you know about or want to go.

It's funny how you can spend lots of time writing extravagant reviews of far off places whilst ignoring gems that lie in your own locality. Fredwells at Pont Wilkins Stables is one such place. Arrived at by only recently opened roads (to the public at least) the wonderful rural scenery sets a high bar for expectations, and this place does not disappoint. The staff are really friendly, the coffee and breakfast as good as any you would expect to find, and with the sun shining on the patio you can easily forget about the real world and unwind. Would not hesitate to recommend.

My mum and I hadn’t booked, and the staff fitted us in on Mothering Sunday for lunch, which was brilliant. The food and drink was delicious, and excellent service.

Visited Fredwell today and had the chicken and waffles. Absolutely outstanding food! Brilliant quality and a lovey ambience in there! Staff can't do enough for you and are so friendly. Can't wait to come back and try some of the gorgeous looking cakes. 10/10!
