Poor. Coffee was weak and expensive, took ten minutes to make. Staff were talking to themselves while I was being ignored. Seems a bit pretentious. Not going back

Super friendly staff even though they were busy. Great coffee and cakes/sandwiches. Is a really nice vibe/feel to the place and much friendlier than other (more expensive) craft bakeries in Berko! Highly recommended.

They are really lovely service and coffee is probably the best in berko. But the toilets are grubby (look like they haven’t been cleaned properly in weeks with dust building up in every nook and cranny) and the place looks like it could do with a bit of a refresh/ paint.

Fabulous independent coffee shop in Berkhamsted which always has an upbeat chalk board message of the day to make you smile. Coffee is the best in town. Service with a smile. Sit inside or outside. Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed

Took my daughters this morning for a celebratory birthday breakfast. The manager and team could not do enough to give us such great personable service & fuss! We opted for the highly recommended ham hock & duck egg dish from the brunch menu which was full of flavour - simply stunning. The coffee was a dream. Love this eatery and will definitely return. Thank you for an epic breakfast.

There are several coffee shops to choose from in Berkhamsted, but for a complete experience, Fred and Gingers are the best. The staff are ALWAYS friendly, attentive and professional, the coffee selection is varied, the food/snacks are tasty and the surroundings are relaxed.A well deserved 5 stars from me! Well done

Love this place. When I need a decaf (can't have too many full-cafs as a breastfeeding mum!) I head straight here. The coffee is so smooth and full-bodied. The hot chocolate is delicious, too - none of that powdery Costa crap! The banana bread served warm with butter is a must-try. Note: F&G won't suit everyone. If you like a greasy fry-up, spit and gossip type of caf, I wouldn't recommend. This place has young, hip staff and serves nutritious salads and healthy-looking sandwich type things that are a little on the pricier side. But everything is delicious and everyone is super friendly and helpful! Plus, they do a loyalty card, that you can't go wrong with!

Have been here several times at weekends & enjoyed it. This morning was a completely different experience. We were wedged between two other tables, both of which were occupied by people on laptops & phones - making business calls non stop. We felt awkward trying to have a normal conversation at our table. I know it’s hard for cafe owners to do much about this behaviour but how about a ‘tech free zone’? The tables on the upper level could be used for those welded to their tech - those at door level are far too close together to make for a comfortable experience for those wanting a coffee shop rather than a mobile office. I won’t be visiting here on a weekday again - shame as it’s great coffee.

I came here for a coffee with a friend for a nice catch up. The coffee was really lovely, if a tad expensive, however it seems that boutique / indie coffee shops like these are always a tad dearer than chain coffee shops, but then again if it's supporting a local business, I'm all for it. Really nice kind staff - I had a chai tea latte .. I originally asked for Tai Chi!!! Great experience, definitely recommend.

I stopped by this afternoon for a coffee, I ordered an Americano. I paid £2.40 for my drink and as there were no size choices I expected a decent sized cup, well the cup was tiny and to be honest as the coffee was not even very hot could have drank it in two mouthfulls. An utter disappointment and I should have popped to the bakers over the road as I first thought, the coffee itself was very tasty though.

Excellent cafe. Friendly staff always happy to help. The food is fantastic I've tried several of options, the best was chicken and parmesan with red pesto sandwich. I'd never have thought to put them together but it's a match made in heaven. I've tried several chocolate brownies in berkhamstead and Fred and ginger's is easily the best.

Situated near the centre of the town (village!) this has a few tables outside set close to its front windows. On a warm day these are best as the inside can become quite hot and sticky. Good tea and coffee although its range of infusions is very limited. I agree with previous favourable comments regarding the staff. We were put off from eating any cakes (looked delicious) from comments by other reviewers regarding poor food hygiene although there were no sign of flies during our visit.

We decided to try Fred and Ginger Cafe, Berkhamsted for a Sunday morning coffee and croissant. Very friendly and welcoming independent cafe and the atmosphere is really lovely. However, as soon as we walked in, we were put off eating, as there were flies crawling across the selection of beautiful pastries, which are left uncovered and are at head height - so people are also breathing on them as they place their orders. Such a simple thing to fix - just a long piece of transparent film across the top!

I had remembered lunch in a packed and buzzy, eclectic cafe called Fred and Ginger a few years ago, so pulled over to this Berkhamstead Cafe after a walk at Ashridge. I found instead a very bare bones and quiet cafe that I didn’t recognise. The other one had been it’s Kings Langley branch, where the kitchen is based.

It’s difficult to decide whether the coffee or the staff are the biggest draw at F&G.; The former is well crafted with good beans (and occasional guest coffees) and just enough choice to keep you interested without overwhelming with the odd Frankenstein creations favoured by the more chainy end of the market (double nonfat latte with sugar free cinnamon caramel syrup? No thanks).

We (my 82 year old Mum) and I ventured in for a drink and light bite. I was struck by the fussy type of foods and thought my Mum would find it difficult to choose something. We had a couple of sausage rolls. The food in the glass counter I thought was just for show, I did not realise it was the food they actually served up. There were flies around that day and they were buzzing around the food. The sausage roll and drink were nice enough. My Mum need the toilet so we headed off in that direction only to find she could barely get in the toilet because it was so small. You also pass through a very narrow corridor where the dishwasher is and I would have thought this was very un-hygenic that you allow people to go to the toilet and then walk passed the clean crockery. Not really impressed and will give it a miss

Coffee shops are plentiful in most high streets and there are numerous cafes around. Berko is not short of places to dive into but I especially like Fred and Gingers. It is not the cheapest, nor is it the most elegant, but it is not about that. Interesting taste combinations, quick service and the best chocolate brownies in town. This does it for me. Additionally as a non coffee drinker I don’t feel like a social outcast as there are well priced and tasty options a plenty. The place looks simple but this disguises some complicated thinking has gone into making this eatery work.

This was our first visit and we were not overly impressed. Didn't particularly find the staff to be friendly and the coffee (americano) wasn't the best. Great coffee in the prettier end of town. Berkhamsted isn’t short of places to drink coffee. Hence yet another establishment needs to differentiate itself to succeed; and what better way to do just that than by simply crafting great coffee, in simple and individual surroundings.

I regularly go here for coffee, either to stay in or take away. The staff are always really nice and are very quick when eating in. Food and drink are consistently good and very different in flavour to what is usually served in a local cafe. I always have decaff coffee which has a very strong taste, personally I really like it but I can see that some people may be put off. There is a good selection of tea and hot chocolate as well.

We dropped in for a quick coffee as we were passing to try the place out. Cakes looked good and savouries also but the coffee had two options House or dark roast and we had house but it has a caramel flavour which neither of us liked although we still drank it. Flapjacks were delicious, staff were friendly and efficient and the setting is open and bright and modern but we still felt something was missing and hay was probably because of the coffee.

We came in for the street food and found the event very well run, there were plenty of stalls, a good variety of offerings and seats to be had. Staff in the pub were very friendly and plenty of them clearing glasses - in fact a bit too keen, keep your glass in view. The ordering at the bar is meant to streamline the system but makes it into a bottleneck- but no real issue there was a Tring beer tent outside! Great event and pub give it a go!

Wanted to leave a review of the St Albans excellent taproom from the brewery. Being a bit of a novice beer drinker i needed a bit of guidance on what and how much of each drink I should have ( one of the recommendations was a 9.7% stout that is apparently best drank in thirds if you can manage it!) by the wonderful team member Marcus behind the bar. A brilliant afternoon’s experience that I would really recommend if you’re looking for something local and a bit different.
