Great charity event. Was very busy day but staff worked hard and lots of money raised well done even the weather was good keep up the good service

Wowie! Simon was amazing, we had been let down by another pub wanting a roast and boyooo should we’ve gone here first! Simon was so caring and considerate and helped us get the last beef roasts will be coming here again x

We'd booked a table for lunch outside on a Saturday - we were visiting the famous wall paintings in in the village for heritage weekends, and wanted something close by. When we arrived there was clearly too much going on for the staff to cope with - there was a wedding in part of the restaurant area - meaning you had to walk right around the building to get to the outside tables or back in to order and use the toilets. There was also, separate to the wedding, a private party with an exceptionally noisy sound system and DJ in the garden. Despite having two large events and other customers, there were only two toilets in operation, leading to long queues for the ladies. We ordered a carrot soup and a Panzanella salad main course. Both tasted really unpleasantly odd. The carrot soup didn't taste of carrots at all and the salad had an oddly unpleasant sweet potato humous thing on top. Everyone around us on the tables outside were smoking or vaping. It was a relief to go back and sit in the car and wait for our timed slot to look at the wall paintings. I very rarely write negative reviews - its better to talk to the establishment at the time...but this was so bad in every way. And there wasn't really anyone to raise this with - staff were rushing around with no one really to talk to. I think as we booked in advance and got a confirmation email - we could have had some warning that there was an event on in the garden. The music was so loud you could still hear it throbbing at the other end of the village. The only good thing was that we didn't have any friends or family with us as it would have been embarrassing.

Ok food. Great service. Rude and noisy people at adjacent table. Probably wouldn’t rush back.

Service was prompt and staff were friendly but we were left disappointed with 5 of the 6 dishes we were served. Firstly the child’s pasta dish arrived in a plate described by the waitress as ‘extremely hot to touch’ which we felt was highly inappropriate for a two year old. Two people ordered the celeriac dish from the limited vegetarian options because the description sounded delicious. When it arrived there were 4 wedges of cold, undercooked celeriac, 1.5 raw shallots and uncooked , raw, mushrooms, not what we would expect for £17.25 and certainly not representing the description of ‘roasted celeriac steak, caramelised shallots and mixed exotic mushrooms with house pesto. The ribeye was ordered medium rare and was rare at best and the fish and battered line caught cod was also undercooked. The staff were accommodating when one diner asked for their celeriac to be heated so it was at least palatable.

Poor quality food for the price. Dead salad, badly cooked veg and a tough tasteless steak. Manager told. No reply other than some other diners had complained. Helpful waitress.

Jack Tomkins might be the best bartender I have ever had the pleasure of ordering from, 20/10 service I’ll definately be back. Dreaming of some fish cakes 😍😍

The food was quite good apart from bread with starter which was soggy and inedible. The service was awful, they really couldn’t be bothered to serve us . Main course was bought to table before first course plates were cleared. At end of meal still debris on table , used wine glasses, salad and chip containers . Trying to attract a waitress/ waiter was almost impossible, got up from table twice, to find someone to serve us. Table next to us were having same problem. Would not return.

Impromptu visit after recommendation from a local car garage...what a good recommendation too. Lovely pub, good food and really excellent service. what else can you ask for, will be coming back!

Food was delicious, service was great, stylish place reasonably priced for the quality of food. It is a shame that the wine and dine menu can't accommodate odd numbers but we worked round it.

Excellent Sunday roast with reasonable prices too. The Yorkshire pudding was definitely showing off on my plate!! I enjoyed every bit including fresh vegetables and amazing gravy, though I wanted more gravy. Sat inside the restaurant but you can sit outside also, highly recommend making a booking online it was very busy. I look forward to my next visit.

It lost a mark because the toilets were rancid. The food was delicious to be honest. Service was great.

Food was good, the pints were nice however the atmosphere was very odd. Bar staff were unfriendly as were the waitresses all barring the one standing at the outside station. We felt so out of place. Did not feel welcome and were getting stares. Thought these days were past us. Would avoid.

While a good location and the inside of the pub is really lovely, there were some issues. The staff seemed very stressed, the garden was rammed / quite rowdy and the restaurant patio looked very tired.

I had a steak and I asked for a medium rare and the chef really done an amazing job.Such a good food overall and nice atmosphere.

Communication was excellent for a party of 13. All meals were pre-ordered and served quickly. I did try to input the guests names online on the guest portal and I was hoping that they could put in their menu choices but this did not work so we needed to collate the meals but not too much of a problem, just time. Good fun had by all.

Always happy with the food and service, however would the manager and one other please sit at every table in the restaurant and notice how the spotlights shining down on your partners head does nothing for the ambience, in actual fact it's quite unpleasant. Particularly the table for 2 by the side of the corridor. Hoping you are able to adjust the direction of the lights. Let us know how you get on. Thanks.

Beautiful pub, very well kept and maintained. Polite and friendly staff. The meal was fantastic and being able to go out afterwards into the garden was a great touch.

Popped in to have some lunch a few days ago, I had such a great experience! Becky went the extra mile to give excellent service! From start to finish she was so friendly and so helpful! Will definitely come back.

Great spot for eats and drinks... the portion size of food was a bit on the small size I thought, and I am not a big eater.... all in all bit expensive

We called into the marchmont Arms for a bite to eat whilst passing through and we're glad we did the food was delicious and becky was a absolute star she went that extra mile to make sure my pregnant wife had no allergys and was comfortable the time we were there, we will definitely call in again when in the area

Very good food, are food was cooked to perfection. But I give thanks to one of your waitresses, her name is Molly, she was brilliant. This lovely experience with of the restaurant would have been nothing without her. She was there always checking on us. She was always so polite to us and constantly in a good mood.

Very lovely place to relax and enjoy some delicious meals. Mollie gave us the best experience as a family. She is well informed about everything in the restaurant, explaining about all the available options both in drinks and food. The place is very family friendly, and very reasonable prices.

Andrea and her team did a wonderful job of ensuring the wake for my dad went exactly as we wanted it to. The food was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better service. Will definitely be back in happier circumstances

Following our wedding reception on the 1st June, we popped in for a last minute drink as we love the place so much and it was a surprise for my wife as she had no idea. As soon as we approached the bar, the ladies behind the bar asked us "How's married life?". It really made us feel special that they would remember us after all the people they see on a daily basis. Holly also came to chat to us as she was the one that initially dealt with all our event details, but unfortunately was unable to be there on the day. The staff never cease to amaze us at how lovely, kind and attentive they are. Can't wait for our next visit.

Had a wonderful night at the Marchmont Arms last night. It wasn’t as busy as I would have expected for a Saturday night, but there was a big football game on!! So the ambience was a little flat but we could all hear one another speak. The food was excellent, everyone one cleared their plates. Mollie, our server, was excellent, making sure our drinks were always topped up. And what an amazing memory, she didn’t write anything down but the orders were spot on. Would thoroughly recommend the Marchmont Arms.

Very busy on a warm Monday evening but plenty of space in the garden.

We booked the conservatory area of the pub for a private party for my sons 21st. Right from the beginning the team were very polite and helpful. The booking process was easy and the room was just right for us.we were allowed in earlier than the booking to set up decorations which was great. The night went really well with the team managing to cater to all our requests . Over all everyone who attended were very happy, and commented on the quality of the food and service. We went for the 10 piece buffet which was very reasonably priced for the quality we received. The drinks were a bit on the expensive side , but you expect that at a quality venue. Thanks very much to everyone who was involved.

Great restaurant, with great communication to accommodate our party of 15. Food was excellent, thank you to all the helpful staff.

Very little was great. The staff were too busy, not very friendly and very unhelpful. The restaurant was very noisy and a loud table nearby were not asked to keep their noise down. Whilst people are free to enjoy themselves, they should not be aloud to intrude on others enjoyment.The food did not represent good value for money. The wine was good.

Not the first time I have visited this pub I do enjoy visiting all the staff are friendly and willing to help especially Holly and becky rob lizzy all are great thanks for your help and hospitality

I posted 4 stars before double checking my bill. I got a birthday voucher 3 courses free if someone bought full price food. The bill was still £77.05 which was told was correct. I've just seen I was charged for a latte when I ordered mini pudding n coffee. I know it was better for them but was full n just fancied something sweet to finish.

Had the most amazing service with our group of friends with a table of 13. Andrea provided the most amazing service and accomodated all our needs for the group and for the children too. Andrea made sure our order was perfect and food quality was amazing. Andrea was so accomodating even though the restaurant was busy with a wedding party too. Congratulations and well done on an amazing service which made our meal and visit memorable.

Excellent place great outdoor area, and great food

Lovely evening, friendly staff and good food. Minor criticisms being the crab starter didn't taste much like crab but I prefer fresh British crab 🦀 not the watery plain white meat that often gets used. Also the main courses were literally served immediately after the starter dishes had been cleared which made it feel like they were anxious to get the service over as soon as possible. Otherwise an enjoyable evening.

Great Atmosphere, Lovely meal can’t recommend the steak and Melbec pie enough! It’s amazing! Great waitress very polite… Phoebe recommended the lemon tart …if you like Lemon you need to try this. We pick this restaurant for all Birthdays and anniversaries!

It was a nice venue and atmosphere but I ordered the celeriac steak and it wasn’t cooked, it was hard and chewy and difficult to eat definitely not worth the £17+ I paid for it. Was expecting better for that sort of price to be honest. We were waiting for the bill for half an hour too with no mention that half my dinner was still on the plate but other than that, it was a nice venue and atmosphere.

Very good, haven't been in years. Food nice, friendly staff and good service

Good and bad. Goats cheese starter was really nice. Sticky chicken also looked good. The burgers were not nice, I’ve had them here before and they seemed like handmade burgers but these were frozen burgers. Very compressed and rubbery and nowhere near as good as they used to be! It was a busy day so maybe they ran out and popped to Iceland? Crispy duck salad did not have shredded duck like it had in other restaurant of the same brand. Just big pieces of meat on top of the salad, with skin on which is quite odd.

Careful with belongings as myself and a friend had stuff stolen from our table. What kind of person steals birthday cards?

Had a delicious meal last Saturday with my daughter and grandson. Service, food and atmosphere were all great (fabulous fish and chips!). However I'd like to really praise how mindful they were about the three year olds dairy allergy. Full marks for their concern and following of procedures!

Don’t often come to the Marchmont for food. We’ve been occasional diners over the past 15 years. It’s had some inconsistency over that time. However last nights meal was really nice. The service was good. The Duo of Beef roast was very nice. Particularly the rib of beef. All of our meals were good. Thank you! Made a nice change.

Had a great lunch meal with my family. Great menu, pub atmosphere and location is really nice. It was a rainy day, I bet when the sun's out their beer garden is a great place to spend an afternoon 😂 we were served by a young chap named Adam, who provided excellent service. Definitely recommend this place.

Went out on a date night with my husband excellent food , friendly staff I ordered a vegetarian option of celeriac steak really, really tasty compliments to the chef completely cleared my plate my husband had the salad with sea bass again cleared his plate definitely recommend

Soup was only lukewarm, the main course pie was excellent, but the accompanying potatoes were mushy, and the broccoli shoots were too few.

Well at one time this used to be a great place with fine dining a little out of the ordinary..However I would say it lacks lustre. Particularly as the prices are so High. There wasn't really enough food and also the quality and appearance was average to say the least. More style than substance..I resent going out and paying over the odds for something I could do better at home ....! And I am not a fantastic cook .

Food poor pizza burnt had to be returned bar service OK but had to chace part of meals fotgoton. Table not cleared till we had no room used under table. Shame as have received better food and service before, won't return in near future
