Fantastic Christmas Day meal. Staff exceptional. Excellent all round.

Had a lovely family meal here and staff went out of their way to make sure we’d the best time. Emily and Jess were exceptional waitresses and dealt with a large group impressively.

I had a Christmas meal here as part of a works party. The Marchmont is a very nice and well kept pud. The outside is very nice, clean and with plenty of parking. The main entrance always feels like you're walking into a stylish country manor house which gives it a great atmosphere. It has a large bar area so we didn't find it difficult to get served. The food was very nice with good portions. The turkey was just right and not too dry. The staff were fantastic and approachable. I will definitely go back.

The team at Marchmont Arms is the best! Elliott, the GM was so welcoming! Will definitely return. It is now my favourite pub 🙂

Came for a Christmas Party with Next Stage Choir. What a fantastic evening. The service was excellent and the staff could not do enough to help. Food was lovely and there was plenty and it arrived nice and hot even though they were serving 70 people. I would highly recommend this for events and I will certainly be back again with my family.

Fabulous evening with my choir - all 75 of us ! The staff were exceptional and, despite the challenge of feeding us all together, the food was not only delicious, but piping hot too :-) The staff were very flexible on timings to allow for impromptu performances of our repertoire. Guests from the bar came and joined our celebrations at times and the staff were excellent at managing us all. They were there when we needed them and in the background if we didn't. All in all a very lovely festive celebration. Well done everyone !

Went there for a beer. It was bitterly cold. I'm sure that they could close off some parts and so keep the bar area warm. Staff friendly with a good selection of beers.

Had lunch on 12th/12/24 food very good but the sevis not so good at the end of the meal we asked for the bill which was £82 which i gave him 85 we waited for the change but he never returned it he put in his tip jar we were doing too give him a £10 tip when he bought the change back so therefore we decided not to leave the tip because he took my change with out being told to keep it very rude?? That he assumed he could keep my change

We had our Christmas Dinner here. There were 30 of us, and the seating in the conservatory was good, with plenty of room. The conservatory was looking very Christmassy with Christmas tree and pretty lights. The starter took a long time to come out, considering we had pre=ordered, and were all there on time. Once it did arrive, I had the mushrooms, and they were tasty and the temperature was hot, as they should be. I had the turkey for my main course, which was nice and hot, as were the roast potatoes and the turnips. However, the sprouts were rock hard, and nobody could eat them, as you could not get them on your fork. I had the pear for desert, which was horrible. It had no taste, and nobody in our party enjoyed it. The service was very good, and the staff worked very hard. There were 30 of us, and we were all served together, and the food was hot. We were given crackers to pull with our desert, which was odd. I think they might have forgotten to put them out earlier. Overall, it was a good evening. I can recommend it for a Christmas meal, just avoid the pear!

One of our regular haunts. Of all the places on the Hempstead area this place always has spaces available to book. In summer their large garden allows an army of people to eat here too.

We usually only enjoy lunch at The Marchmont Arms and it never disappoints. However, we've had dinner there a few times recently and last night visited to celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary. It was fabulous. The location and food are exactly what you'd expect in what is quite a high standard location but what really makes it special are the staff who are not only incredibly friendly, but go above and beyond to make you feel welcome and ensure that you enjoy your visit. We'll certainly be back, and soon!

We popped in here around 5 pm, midweek. There were about 7 people in total drinking. The atmosphere was lack lustre as you can imagine. We had an Aspall cider and a medium wine topped up with lemonade. I imagine, this place is rather more busy at weekends. One other thing, the pub is dog friendly.

We had our wedding reception here and we were so pleased with their service. The food and the cocktails were delicious. The staff were very friendly and understanding as we had loads of kids at the party and they also provided paper and creiona for them which I thought that was so lovely. Andreea the manager was very helpful and respectful. We couldn't be happier with them . Definitely will be recommending to others .

Absolutely to notch. Food is incredible. Staff is so friendly . Outside garden is outstanding. Interior a joy. Prices reasonable. And what can I say zbout through drink. Large selection. I'm a bear and I enjoyed it. So you must visit this incredible establishment. Wobbley Bear.

Great place with amazing service and excellent food

Incredible service for a group of 14 including 4 kids. This is our local pub and we love coming here in summer and winter. Lovely food and atmosphere. The family from London and friends outside London loved the whole setup of the pub and all the different rooms. Thank you to the kind staff for being so accommodating.

Food was great and reasonably priced, with plenty of variety. The staff were great, attentive and polite.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a lovely, relaxed meal here. We would recommend all of the dishes we chose - Chicken Liver & Fig Parfait, Goats Cheese Whiskey Glaze Tatin, British Steak & Malbec Pie, Panzanella Salad topped with Goats Cheese, Our Chocolate Bomb and Vanilla Poached Pear. Polite service from 2 female members of staff. The manager, Elliott, works hard to ensure a very pleasant ambience in this restaurant.

On Thursday, I visited the Marchmont and had the pleasure of being served by Becky. From the moment we walked in, she was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. Her friendly personality brought such a warm and inviting atmosphere to the evening, and she had the perfect balance of professionalism and humor. She was attentive without being overbearing, and her lighthearted jokes had us all laughing throughout the night. It’s clear she truly enjoys what she does, and she really elevated our experience. We’ll definitely be back – thank you, Becky, for a wonderful night!

Just stopped here for a coffee. I had a latte that was served in a tea cup and was barely warm, my partner wanted decaf but they had run out? The furniture in the upper seating area wouldn’t be out of place in a jumble sale, old looking sofas and high tables. When you sit down the table is nearly at shoulder level. There are chip marks everywhere and paint missing. I was watching other people eat with their elbows nearly pointing to the ceiling, it was quite comical. Staff were friendly enough but didn’t want to eat as that would have been incredibly difficult. I recommend that someone in charge sits on one of the sofas and tries to eat or drink something.

This place is a true gem! We rented one of the spaces for a baby shower, and from the very start, Andrea was incredible. She was flexible, accommodating, and went above and beyond to help make our event perfect. Andrea coordinated seamlessly with her team to keep everything running smoothly, meeting every one of our needs. The food was fantastic, too. Thank you, Andrea—you exemplify what great hospitality should be. As an event organiser who works with various venues, I’ve seen all levels of service, and Marchmont is lucky to have someone like you!

We went here for lunch on Sunday 3rd November, we’re we’re a table of 12 and could see how busy it was when we arrived - they had 200 covers for lunch on that day with several large tables like ours. We were served by Holly who was amazing, attentive without being overbearing and super friendly and helpful - she is a credit to this place! All other staff were also great but she was standout. The food was delicious and hot, it came quickly considering how busy it was, the portions are huge, the roasts delicious! Would really recommend for a great atmosphere, service and food.

We booked Marchmont Arms area by the lower section of the pub for my wife baby shower. Andrea from the beginning was amazing, she was quick to respond prior the event. On the day, she was outstanding. Was always checking in on us and made sure our event was fantastic, definitely someone who goes beyond their means! Chef Christopher dished up delicious meals and even reheated the food a few times. Marchmont is lucky to have Andrea and Chris on their team.

This Queen Anne Era former residence, located in the Gade Valley in a rural setting, has ample well-spaced parking. The restaurant seating is spread over several different areas from high-ceilinged and elegantly decorated reception rooms to a bright and light conservatory area. The tables are spacious and well laid up. We were seated and served as soon as we arrived. Our server was very knowledgeable on the menu and helpfully recommended the Roast Duo of Beef to me. Our drinks arrived promptly and our order taken. The server was friendly and professional and managed to smile all of the time even though she was very busy with every table full. I had a side salad as a starter which was fresh, crispy and well dressed. Our main courses arrived and it looked very appetising on the plate. All three of us were eating roasts and we shhared a side dish of cauliflower cheese. A dish of green vegetables was brought for us to share. We each had a mini saucepan filled with a hot and flavoursome gravy. The condiments were good with real ground pepper from a mill that worked and generous portions of horse radish sauce. My duo of beef was delicious. The slow cooked blade of beef was so tender and tasty and the 21 day aged sirloin was equally delicious. the sirloin was moist and not overcooked. The portions were generaous and the 'Roast Trimmings'of Yourkshire, carrots, parsnips, and great roast potatoes, were equally tasty. We had beers and wine with our meal and the cost was just over £30 a head which nowadays is remarkably inexpensive. Tips are not included in the bill and we tipped in cash. Overall, if you like a roast dinner, which I do, the food here is excellent and great value for money. Well done Elliot!

Meet friends for lunch, had a lovely round table. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Had the goat cheese starter, with a side of chunky chips. Really delicious and lovely presentation. Very impressed will definitely return.

Delicious food great venue but was basically ignored by the staff. Drinks orders forgotten sat so long waiting for dessert order to be taken we gave up then had to wait another 20 minutes to pay. Shame

I recently went to the Marchmont Arms for dinner with my familiy and we all had such a wonderful evening there. The food was amazing especially the dirty burger, which has changed slightly since the last time we went. The staff were all very professional and impressive. Their new manager is definitely doing a great job with the pub. Will definitely be back :)

Fantastic food, great location. We had Sunday lunch here for the first time and ordered the trio of roasts and a kiddie meal. Everything was delicious - especially the crackling! Very crispy and moreish. The kids menu is good - some nice options and good portion sizes. My little one ate almost everything, which is unusual! All in all, a fantastic experience and we will be back.

Lovely Sunday lunch, great portions and excellent vegetarian options too. Despite them being really busy our service was so good- big shout out to Jack who was very attentive and good humoured with us.

Quite place delicious food friendly staff

Staff were very helpful as a member of our party is disabled and initially our table was downstairs so your manager organised a table in a better location. Service was efficient and friendly. We all ordered Sunday roast which was absolutely delicious. We all had a really lovely lunch.

The food was delicious, every single mouthful was an explosion of great tastes in our mouths. We were served by a young lady who's name I didn't get but she was very pleasant, polite, engaging and gave us great service during our meal.

On a visit to my sister we decided to have lunch at the Marchmont. The staff were very friendly especially Becky. The food was very tasty and well presented. Will definitely go there again.

Upon arrival the staff were helpful and friendly. Seated quickly and placed our orders. At this point it was quiet. Shortly after placing our order it became very busy. Our food took around 50 minutes to arrive, being told because it’s busy and they only had 2 chefs. I find this strange as we placed our order before it became busy. However, the food was good and the staff still remained helpful throughout.

We have just celebrated our son's 21st birthday at the Marchmont Arms for 25 people. The whole process was seamless from start to finish. Such lovely people to work with and the food, drink and service was fantastic. We had our own room and the staff were so attentive and helpful. Highly recommend it for a special occasion

Great friendly service. Wonderful food. I had the MAPLE-GLAZED SLOW-COOKED PORK BELLY & SCALLOPS which was delicious 7th September 2024. Had the WIne & Dine offer. Fantastic ribeye steak and the wine choice was delicious. My partner and I both had the scallops to start which were amazing.

We'd booked a table for lunch outside on a Saturday - we were visiting the famous wall paintings in in the village for heritage weekends, and wanted something close by. When we arrived there was clearly too much going on for the staff to cope with - there was a wedding in part of the restaurant area - meaning you had to walk right around the building to get to the outside tables or back in to order and use the toilets. There was also, separate to the wedding, a private party with an exceptionally noisy sound system and DJ in the garden. Despite having two large events and other customers, there were only two toilets in operation, leading to long queues for the ladies. We ordered a carrot soup and a Panzanella salad main course. Both tasted really unpleasantly odd. The carrot soup didn't taste of carrots at all and the salad had an oddly unpleasant sweet potato humous thing on top. Everyone around us on the tables outside were smoking or vaping. It was a relief to go back and sit in the car and wait for our timed slot to look at the wall paintings. I very rarely write negative reviews - its better to talk to the establishment at the time...but this was so bad in every way. And there wasn't really anyone to raise this with - staff were rushing around with no one really to talk to. I think as we booked in advance and got a confirmation email - we could have had some warning that there was an event on in the garden. The music was so loud you could still hear it throbbing at the other end of the village. The only good thing was that we didn't have any friends or family with us as it would have been embarrassing.

Ok food. Great service. Rude and noisy people at adjacent table. Probably wouldn’t rush back.

Service was prompt and staff were friendly but we were left disappointed with 5 of the 6 dishes we were served. Firstly the child’s pasta dish arrived in a plate described by the waitress as ‘extremely hot to touch’ which we felt was highly inappropriate for a two year old. Two people ordered the celeriac dish from the limited vegetarian options because the description sounded delicious. When it arrived there were 4 wedges of cold, undercooked celeriac, 1.5 raw shallots and uncooked , raw, mushrooms, not what we would expect for £17.25 and certainly not representing the description of ‘roasted celeriac steak, caramelised shallots and mixed exotic mushrooms with house pesto. The ribeye was ordered medium rare and was rare at best and the fish and battered line caught cod was also undercooked. The staff were accommodating when one diner asked for their celeriac to be heated so it was at least palatable.

Good drinks. Good vibes. Would highly recommend

The food was quite good apart from bread with starter which was soggy and inedible. The service was awful, they really couldn’t be bothered to serve us . Main course was bought to table before first course plates were cleared. At end of meal still debris on table , used wine glasses, salad and chip containers . Trying to attract a waitress/ waiter was almost impossible, got up from table twice, to find someone to serve us. Table next to us were having same problem. Would not return.

Food was delicious, service was great, stylish place reasonably priced for the quality of food. It is a shame that the wine and dine menu can't accommodate odd numbers but we worked round it.

Excellent Sunday roast with reasonable prices too. The Yorkshire pudding was definitely showing off on my plate!! I enjoyed every bit including fresh vegetables and amazing gravy, though I wanted more gravy. Sat inside the restaurant but you can sit outside also, highly recommend making a booking online it was very busy. I look forward to my next visit.

Food was good, the pints were nice however the atmosphere was very odd. Bar staff were unfriendly as were the waitresses all barring the one standing at the outside station. We felt so out of place. Did not feel welcome and were getting stares. Thought these days were past us. Would avoid.

It lost a mark because the toilets were rancid. The food was delicious to be honest. Service was great.

While a good location and the inside of the pub is really lovely, there were some issues. The staff seemed very stressed, the garden was rammed / quite rowdy and the restaurant patio looked very tired.

I had a steak and I asked for a medium rare and the chef really done an amazing job.Such a good food overall and nice atmosphere.

Communication was excellent for a party of 13. All meals were pre-ordered and served quickly. I did try to input the guests names online on the guest portal and I was hoping that they could put in their menu choices but this did not work so we needed to collate the meals but not too much of a problem, just time. Good fun had by all.

Always happy with the food and service, however would the manager and one other please sit at every table in the restaurant and notice how the spotlights shining down on your partners head does nothing for the ambience, in actual fact it's quite unpleasant. Particularly the table for 2 by the side of the corridor. Hoping you are able to adjust the direction of the lights. Let us know how you get on. Thanks.

Very good food, are food was cooked to perfection. But I give thanks to one of your waitresses, her name is Molly, she was brilliant. This lovely experience with of the restaurant would have been nothing without her. She was there always checking on us. She was always so polite to us and constantly in a good mood.

Very lovely place to relax and enjoy some delicious meals. Mollie gave us the best experience as a family. She is well informed about everything in the restaurant, explaining about all the available options both in drinks and food. The place is very family friendly, and very reasonable prices.

Andrea and her team did a wonderful job of ensuring the wake for my dad went exactly as we wanted it to. The food was amazing and we couldn't have asked for a better service. Will definitely be back in happier circumstances
