Unfortunately we didn’t have the best experience here. We wanted to try and new spot in Tring. Menu had a great range. The food was cold. My partner had a full English and it just didn’t have a lot of taste! Definitely sticking to beans and brunch

I was driving through Tring and craved coffee and a (gluten free) treat. I googled what was in the area, and was intrigued by the name 'Black Goo'. Call me wacky, call me weird, but I kind of liked it. Well, am I glad that my humour is busted, because I was pleasantly surprised by the abundance of gluten free options available. The options were also what I'd describe as 'top-tier' gluten free - cakes, bakes, and chunky loaves! I got two slices of cake (look how chunky!) and a brownie. The fact there were a few cakes from which I could choose was such a joy. The barista was also amazing, and allowed me to sample a small slice of each to help me decide. They were so good, I got two. (I did end up finishing both slices in one sitting - I don't recommend this, but I have no regrets). I was vey appreciative of the care and attention given to my gluten sensitivity. The baristas all seemed very knowledgeable, and did detail what I could/ couldn't eat in regards to cross contamination. I didn't order any 'savoury' brunch, but there were a lot of options available on the menu I'd be interested to try another time. The coffee is also delicious, and well made. All in all - just goo to goo!

The breakfast was disappointing and tasted like it had been sat on a hot plate for hours before being served. Hash brown was rock hard and the bacon looked like it had spent most of it's life sunbathing on the beach in Malaga. Didn't enjoy the sausages and the table was sticky. Staff and coffee were nice though.

Poor show @Black Goo, Tring! I read that you opened at 08:30 and walked in on the dot. The server greeted me politely, however after directing me to a seat as I'd indicated eating in, she informed me that the kitchen wasn't open until 9am. Deciding not to wait half an hour to place an order/ start having my breakfast cooked, I walked out and went elsewhere.

Such a great place, so glad we found it. The food is absolutely delicious. We had shrooms on toast and smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. Just perfect. Beautifully presented and so tasty. The bread for the toast was lovely too. Hot chocolate was creamy and delicious. Staff were great. Table service, a few tables outside on the pavement as well. Quirky decor inside. A couple of parking places on the road outside and just a short walk from a larger car park. Popular place and we could definitely see why. Thank you.

Very poor food. The bubble benedict was a pile of potatoes with tasteless, gloopy hollandaise sauce. I are half and felt quite ill afterwards, as did my wife who had the same. Staff were flustered and seemed poorly trained. The only took part of our order and got it wrong. Some were having loud, personal conversations which seemed a little unprofessional. The environment was noisy and chaotic. It would probably have suited a post stage or hen brunch but not a couple or family friendly atmosphere. I've given this 2 stars as it's probably part personal taste. Overall a very unpleasant experience and sadly not much positive to say.

We had a carrot cake and a school cake and yes we did mention it when we took the crockery back in so it wasn’t left outside to look messy, your staff were uninterested!!! The cakes are delicious, coffee was alright, ruby hot chocolate for a whooping 4.5 tasted like sweet milk, and the staff was incredibly rude. There was noone behind us, yet they rushed us to order, shooed us out of the way whilst we were looking at their selection, and the older member of staff kept asking what i said, again, with just a rude “huh?” Or “what?”! It was very awkward and uncomfortable to the point i was too anxious/uncomfortable to ask for milk alternatives. Also extremely over priced! Shame because it looks pretty cool and cakes are tasty, but not gonna bother going there again.

When my friend asked if she could please have more yogurt to mix with the remaining granola she was told she could but there would be a charge! She decided not to pay for the extra yogurt therefore the remaining granola was wasted. Our feedback on leaving was to reduce the amount of granola or increase the amount of yogurt … or actually keep your customers happy by giving them an extra spoonful of yogurt!

Having read some disappointing reveiws I was a bit apprehensive but they must have been one off glitches, because I loved this place so much on a first visit I went back the following week with a rather discerning French visitor who also loved it. I did see a reference to junk shop cutlery, but this is part of the charm - they have vintage crockery although our cutlery was standard restaurant cutlery. The creamy mushrooms on toast were perfect, the millionaire's shortbread is the best ive ever had, with a thick layer of fabulous gooey caramel and the lemon cake my friend had was declared a triumph. Service was friendly and as the food was cooked to order came out piping hot. I will be back again and again!

It was like we were too much hassle, husband asked for a piece of chocolate cake,,too be told they only had cookies and cream, cake turned up, was hard, dry and unedible, when I went in to pay the bill, the chocolate cake was on the side uncut. I also asked if they took blue light card, to which was told definite no. Not a problem. We won't be back, it was I think the worse place I have been in a long time. New to the area and came here as it has a positive reputation, and the design of the place looks good. We discovered an uninspiring brunch menu, so thought we’d go for “full goos” which is code for a full english breakfast. Oh dear did we wait for these meals, and wait and wait. We waited so long concerns arose that the staff from tring natural history museum might come down and find us ready for taxidermy. When you wait that length of time, you are hungry so generally won’t complain no matter. However, the food was very salty, and we were been left with a bad taste in our mouths all day. Not sure what it was that caused it, we presume the oil? A final gripe is that they have a kids menu, yet oversized cultery they have perhaps found at a local car boot sale. Although this might form part of some trend, it wasn’t practical for little hands to get food into mouths so would benefit from review. With knowledge they are providing meals for kids, some colouring materials might also be appropriate given the kitchen are slower than the 1845 stuffed Tortoise up in the museum. Visibly, the cakes looked nice and we might have had some afterwards if we wasn’t kept so long. We will be back to try them, but not sure we will return to their hot food menu. 2 star, as the wait staff were nice enough, they were just hindered by qualifying of back office operations.

This place has a fantastic concept, excellent food menu, incredible cakes and a decent coffee offering. However, what really let’s it down for me is the service. We were not told about a time limit on the table and mid coffee was told we had 5 minutes to drink up as the table had a booking it was required for. When asked if we could finish our coffee on another table I was told it was also needed for a booking and I would need to takeaway. Wow just wow. Service like this can really damage reputation. I just hope this was a one off and no one else has been subjected to this. Left with a sour taste I am afraid.

Really nice, eclectic little shop with great food, pleasant staff, and amusing decorations. We had a Vegan Goo brunch and a mini-vegan goo, and they were delicious. And *so*much*food*! I shared part of my full Vegan Goo with my husband and still could barely finish. Everything was fresh and hot and tasty. We particularly liked the bubble and squeak (which doesn't come on the mini, so you have to steal some from someone else if you get that. 😉) This was the first time I had "fresh" orange juice that didn't seem like it was, "fresh (from the carton)". Cold, tart, and delicious! If we're ever back in Tring, we'll stop again. Highly recommended! Update Sept 9, 2023: Stopped in again for more of the same delicious food. You have to visit Black goo. You simply have to. Why? Firstly; the food. Tasty, generous portions, an uncomplicated menu, a kids menu, and did I say tasty? Well, delicious. Let's go with that. Next; the cakes. YUM! Who even makes these? Give that person a medal immediately! We had the Bakewell tart cake for our wedding in April (yes, you can order cakes from Black goo!) and we also ordered a Cookies and Cream cake for my stepdaughter's birthday (which the staff brought out to us with a candle and their best singing voices!). I had high hopes when we walked in. The place looked great, cool decor and tasty looking cakes on the counter. Unfortunately the food and service were really disappointing. I ordered the Go Mac and Cheese with garlic bread. The mac and cheese, although looked great had barely any taste at all and the bread was dry and over toasted. I left almost all of this meal even though I was very hungry. This said, the pudding was nice. The service was very poor. Once our food had been delivered we were completely ignored for the rest of our time there. No one bothered asking if we wanted another drink and when we tried to get someone's attention we were just ignored. When the waitress cleared our plates and saw I'd left most of my food, she didn't bother asking if anything had been wrong with it. No one came to ask if we wanted another drink or the bill and when we did catch someone's attention for this the waitress took our payment and rushed off, didn't bother asking how our food was or anything. We had reserved our table as this was a special occasion (birthday) we we left both saying to one another that we'd never go back.

A wonderfully chilled and relaxing coffee shop, with lovely friendly folks and staff. Their rocky road is an absolute winner! Very much recommend 👌 😊

Popped in on the off chance today for a coffee and a cake. Coffee was lovely and the scone was the biggest and best I’ve ever tasted! Great selection of cakes and friendly service. Will be back!

Visiting Tring for the first time yesterday and needed a coffee etc. Cafe was full but staff cleared a table at the rear to accomodate me. I had the Half Goo breakfast and was not disappointed. Great food, great value, great atmosphere and I loved the music. This cafe was recommended to me by another local business and I am happy to say I can also highly recommend Black Goo.

I used to love coming to BG but now I tend to avoid it. Sorry to say the place is going downhill. I am not a fan of the enormously oversized cakes, which look like they've been attacked by a sweet factory. I would much...

A really nice Saturday lunch with the fam in the cosy Alford Arms . Firstly the staff were attentive and friendly. Our table ordered the beef stew with dumplings, sausages and mash, schnitzel and pasta, the salmon and the special of plaice in a buttery sauce. The fish dishes were exceptional, with the salmon crispy on the skin and the Plaice tender and complimented with capers and herbs. The roast potato and veg allowed for a right mopping of the remnants also. The sausages and mash I was a little indifferent to, as the gravy lacked flavour and the sausages were a little dry. The stew was well received and perfect for a mid autumn belly warmer. The fish justified the price paid, but the sausages and mash brought the average down. We will definitely visit again.

Weak awful coffee served in chipped tin cups with letters falling off . Sausage roll was meant to be home made however the one I was given Straight out of a freezer and factory made .
