Been twice lately. Second time to give benefit of doubt. Should've trusted initial judgement. Everything tastes old. Asked for batter with chips. It was dark brown it had been reheated that many times. I suspect as I've gone in at lunch they're just keeping last nights food in and reheating it. It's not called Manky Frankies for nowt

We noticed this place while in Shields a couple of weeks ago and Monday Entertainment was advertised from 1pm to 3pm. We decided to come through to check it out and were very pleasantly surprised. We all had mince and dumplings which were delicious and home cooked. We had mashed and roast potatoes and a choice of 2 veg. I had turnip and cabbage. Portions were good and the Staff serving were lovely and very friendly. If you bought a main meal you could get a dessert for £1 and I had a sponge with custard, which was lovely. There was a raffle and a game of bingo and 2 sets from a fabulous entertainer, Paul Skerritt. He did a range of songs from Bobby Darrin, Frank Sinatra, Michael Buble, Dean Martin and Jonny Mathis. Plus loads of other classics. He cracked jokes with the audience and we had a great time. The atmosphere was very welcoming and we would love to go back next time we manage to get time off from work on a Monday. They are also having an entertainer this Wednesday. There was also a bar so you can have an alcoholic drink too. I would definitely recommend this diner for great home cooked food, entertainment and fun

If visiting South Shields you cannot get a better meal deal than at Frankies !(opposite the museum/old library) also without doubt the best English food take away in south Shields even take away puddings with custard. The staff are outstanding and 100% clean. Beware portions are enormous so my wife and I share a meal deal or make it last over two days if we choose the takeaway. Also free entertainment at times. Brilliant venue.

I have visited this diner a few times with friends and it has always been spot on. Visited with my family for breakfast one morning as they were opening. We were greeted and told to go on in :) We ordered breakfasts and they came piping hot and were delicious. The staff are always friendly and I enjoy visiting when I am in the town. Caters for all ages, with high chairs available for small children. Nothing is a bother. Reasonably priced. Will be back!

My daughter and I have followed Frankie's Diner from King Street to their new premises on Ocean Road. It's our Saturday treat after (and sometimes before) shopping, and the food is always beautifully cooked and presented. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff and the atmosphere is friendly. Prices are so reasonable too. Sometimes they're open in the evenings if they have an act performing. From singers to clairvoyants, there's something for everyone. The coffee is to die for - never too strong, and the mince and dumplings are out of this world. Sunday dinners are fab too, with a pudding for just a pound. I must also mention the licensed bar, if you fancy a pint or a nice glass of wine with your scran. You couldn't make a better of choice of venue. We love this place!

The address has changed, it’s now downstairs and about twenty yards away, but this place is great. Mostly home cooked and well priced food with great staff and an understated but cosy venue. Plenty on offer with entertainment evenings and comedy clubs. Kids films shown at Christmas with Santa. I like this place and it’s so accessible with my pram. Great.

yet the food is not too bad, but is very poor on presentation, ie gravy trails over the edge of the plate, it never looks well presented, I guess you get what you pay for.

Now that Frankies are in a new home in King Street they are doing a lot more of that they do best.... Proper dinners and plenty of them. Excellent value, too, with a 2-meals for £10 deal as well as early Specials.

I couldn't down grade my score because the food was lovely. We went in late near closing time but a lovely gentleman who worked there said it was no problem and to come right in we had plenty of time. It was clear they were cleaning up but we had my elderly disabled father in law with us so needed a place to eat. It was clear this one female staff member was annoyed that the gentleman let us in so close to closing time and proceeded to use the f word while continuing to clear away and express her anger at us being there so close to closing. My son also asked me if the lady was ok because she kept swearing. But besides this the other staff were lovely and the food was very pleasing and we would go here again but maybe within plenty of time.
