Frankie & Benny's New York Italian Restaurant & Bar in Cherwell

A good clean Frankie & Benny's relaxed staff although there was a bit of a wait. Fortunately we were happy to wait as we arrived earlier for Adventure Golf that we expected.

We went there for lunch yesterday but to my shock tables and benches are made for only certain people of certain size to fit in, my brother who's bigger guy could barely fit in and was so uncomfortable as well as my mom. I find it discriminating. Food is more than average with a very cheap burger meat quality. Not gonna eat there again unfortunately.

Visted the Oxford branch on Thursday the 7th of March, having not been for many years and had been great. This experience was altogether a different story. We arrived at 7pm, were seated by a member of staff who look overjoyed (sarcasm) to be there. I should have known what we were in for as soon as we walked in and saw only 4 other tables occupied. We ordered 2 coke's which arrived a few minutes later and tasted "off" if thats the right word, both almost clear and obviously didn't have enough syrup mixed. Not having the Chicken calzone on the menu I remembered, I opted for a cheeseburger and my wife orderd a margarita pizza. No less than 5 minutes later our food arrived and honestly I was a little taken back by how quickly arrived given the state of the burger I was greeted with. It was almost black on the outside, the beef was crumbling apart..much like something you leave on a BBQ and forget about, only not hot enough to melt the "cheese" that was on top.. being at that stage where it starts to sweat and just started to turn translucent. I took two bites and decided not to risk potential stomach issues later in the evening. My wifes pizza genuinely looked like it had been removed from a box 5 minutes prior, something like a Chicago Town frozen pizza you find in Budgens, again 2 slices and she gave up, you would have a better experience at a McDonalds drive through. The food was quite obviously pre cooked and re heated, the service was lackluster being more preoccupied with the several Uber Eats riders waiting for thier collections and the only reason I have given it a 2 is because I felt a modicum of sympathy for the poor guy who looked like he'd rather be anywhere but there at that particular moment. In summary, we arrived at 7pm ordered drinks and food and were back out the front door by 7.35pm. Not the buzzing lively place it once was, terrible food, terrible atmosphere and will not be returning.

Absolutely abysmal. All started when they rang us 20 minutes before our time we had booked to hurry up on our arrival. We then got there and we were rushed into sitting down, rushed into ordering food, having my starter come with my main. Mac and cheese was horrendous, had no flavour, and midway through eating they brought the bill to my table and told me I had to pay. I do not recommend at all. This place is abysmal in every aspect

Great food, really fast service and a nice atmosphere, especially when there's a birthday and everyone sings.

The food was delicious and the service was amazing annoyingly the seats and tables were extremely sticky but I would definitely recommend it

Quite simply the most efficient restaurant I’ve ever been to. Went on a match day when they were super busy they sat us down within 5 mins and food served within 15 all employees working hard and super polite and helpful hats off to these guys thanks for fantastic service!

Popped in for a hot chocolate and brownie whilst waiting for my car to be cleaned.. Nice enough, very quiet, so service was quick during the afternoon in the week 👍🏻

F&B are falling from my favour after my latest visit. Their prices have gone up and the choices have reduced. Vegetarian choices have been replaced by vegan choices which is my pet peeve and the replacements are tasty so no reason to accept them. Service was great, but if food is not great then you can't justify going there.

Worst experience We were told after 30 minutes almost in the middle of our dining that we should empty the table .

These legends fixed me up with a takeaway hot dog in under 10 mins when Vue had sold out! Dog was delicious and piping hot, with lovely crispy fries all served in a convenient box. You even get a discount if you have a cinema ticket!

Remarkable service! Entered with a 7-man group one hour before closing. One of the quickest service I've ever experienced! Narcisa was patient, caring, attentive, and offered to take pictures of us when she noticed. Luis was the only chef in the kitchen at the time and with such little amount of time, cooked and prepped all of our meals with great taste and presentation. Last but not least, Deyan (manager?) was welcoming, engaging, and enthusiastic with his presence. To top it all off, one of the group had their birthday and the staff proceeded to play some entertaining music. Thank you for making our evening memorable!

Haven’t been for a while as it had gone down hill but tonight’s experience was a brilliant food was all served quickly and fresh and the waiter that served us was brilliant

Asked for a table for 2. Was rudely greeted by a simple ‘no’ from the host. (in an Oxford shirt). Clearly not bothered about general public/ and or away fans, more bothered about pleasing the local fans. Disgraceful service.AVOID

I had the meat feast pizza here which cost £15.80. Honestly one of the worst pizzas I have ever had at a restaurant. The pizza was small and you can tell the ingredients are frozen. For that price point would expect a lot better. I've had nicer supermarket bought pizzas. Overpriced and lacking in quality

Stopped in for a quick lunch after bowling. Was good enough. Lots of children running around and climbing on other unoccupied booths and parents didn’t seem to bother with them but other than that was fine.

Much to my surprise I really enjoyed our meal. I'd never been before. Arguably the best vege burger and chips I've had in a chain restaurant. What was also very refreshing was being served a good baked cheesecake in a restaurant. That's very rare in my experience. The service was excellent - our waiter was warm and friendly and very quick. Given it was my 43rd birthday I could have done without being the centre of attention for 30 seconds when happy birthday started blaring out but I appreciated the thought! I also had a really good cocktail ( Raspberry Bramble) which was reasonably priced at £8.90. The only downside was the atmosphere which was pretty flat given it was maybe a third to a half full at 6pm on a Friday. The decor is starting to look quite tired too. It's a shame because the food deserves better.

Good place to go eat before going to the cinema. Lots of birthdays in so lots of singing. Service was good, food was tasty.

We had lunch here for our staff away day. Catering for 40 people and the food and service was absolutely superb. Great staff, really helpful and made our day a real success. Highly recommended.

Had a nice dinner here recently. Family friendly place, I was here at a Saturday evening. Would say it was 'medium' busy. I reserved online short in advance, this was a very smooth experience. Food itself was tasty, I had a pizza, ice-cream and waffle desert with a beer.

Nice large piece of salmon, whole meal deliciously cooked. 20% student discount available (not advertised in restaurant, but just need to show ID)

Was sat very quickly by very accommodating staff, who asked after what sort of seat/table we wanted as friend I was with was in a wheelchair. Waitress was very efficient and friendly. Food came very quickly. Vegan burger was delicious with jalapeños giving the burger a great bite. Meat burger was good too. Brisket beans were very nice Overall, a great meal with super service. Was very impressed!

All round great place to eat. The food was served in a timely manner, the staff were welcoming and helpful. We had a baby with us and my partner asked for some cooled boiled water for him to drink and the request was obliged without question.

So utterly appalling was the service that, after representations, we got the meal free. The staff were pleasant but too few and the food was actually quite good.

Ok for a family meal. Food was fine, but we felt it was a little pricey for what we got. It was quite loud - lots of chatter but mainly the music was a bit loud for everyone conversations had to be even louder to compensate, making for a very loud environment. Also, it was uncomfortably warm in there. That would really deter me from returning.

To be fair, the staff made it so much better than I expected. Franchise as expected, place looked as expected, our lovely friendly Polish waitress really made the difference. Very friendly, attentive to our large group (work meal). They sang for our birthday boy and even managed our huge order of x15 p'star martini's! Thank you.

Very friendly staff and great food. We had an amazing dinner, my daughter enjoyed her meal immensely, the dessert was delicious. The manager and waiters were very helpful and accommodating. Wide menu selection, will definitely visit again when in Oxford.

We came here on 20/2/23 at around 6pm. Our order was delayed as they offered ordering online on the table but this never went through , although this was probably a tech error rather than the restaurants fault. We got served by a girl with brown hair and she wasn't very welcoming and came across very rude , in comparison to how she was with others; happy and smiley. Staff were generally unhappy and didn't do well with delivering customer service. Food was okay but I wouldn't revisit, nothing against the chef's, it just wasn't our cup of tea.

Really not a nice place, the restaurant had some horrible looming smell for all the time we were there, the food wasn't the best. The whole place was quite run down

My family and I had a gret dinner at Frankie and Benny's - Oxford. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, amazing communication. The food was at an exceptional level, everything was very, very tasty and precisely executed. That was the final tuch of a lovely day off. Definitely will go back again 👍

Went into Oxford F&B for lunch. My partner is Caeliac and I'm gluten intolerant. Jake was awesome as our waiter, he was very smiley and on top of things. Open kitchen - team seemed totally on it. Even GM was made aware of allergy and nothing was too much trouble. Everything was great except my partner said about the portion size for the price of the meal. But I understand we are in a cost of living crisis. Next time we might take a look at their +Three Deal options for a cheaper lunch, or their Valentine's options to be cute. Very very poor. Obviously understaffed . Very hard to get any type of waiter/ service . The food served was disappointing ( I didn't eat mine ) . Couldn't get a server's attention to change the dish. It will be the last time I ever eat at this chain. Save your money and go elsewhere

Went for a meal for our daughter's 13th birthday - 7 of her friends on one table and Mum and Dad on another - by request! The restaurant was really busy as it wasn't long after the end of an Oxford United home game. Despite that, we were seated quickly, orders were taken efficiently, drinks arrived quickly and food arrived not long after. Everyone enjoyed their meals and the birthday cake with everyone singing Happy Birthday for her. The staff were polite, had time for us and were very helpful - special mention to our great waitress Jessica. Thank you!!!

Had a great family birthday meal here. The staff, Kevin and Coco, were great, really friendly and helpful in setting up a birthday surprise. Food also surpassed our expectations. Would definitely recommend.

Went for pre match meal only told we had 30 mins to have the table . That didnt give us time to even have a dessert! Yet there were other supporters in there that had more time to even have 3 courses and it seemed to cary from the different servers. Wont be going there again especially as some of our group had travelled for over 3 hours to get there.

I was only popping in for an hour whilst waiting for my boyfriend to finish Lazer quest. The staff allowed me to sit at the bar and order some snacks/ a drink despite it being relatively busy. The starters I had (Potatoe skins and chicken stripes) were lovely. Thank you.

Been here several times with my wife and 4 year old daughter. Food has always been consistent and waiters have always been friendly and accommodating. It’s not your high end restaurant but it’s not trying to be. To me it’s a very well run family restaurant. With good friendly staff

We booked a table for my daughters birthday on the 15/11/2022. We were seated very quickly and attended to promptly even though short on staff. The restaurant brought out a birthday cake and lit candles id handed in before hand to my daughter and we (our guests and restaurant staff) sang happy birthday for no extra charge. It was very easy to prepare this surprise with the help of the management and they also handed out a free dessert with happy birthday written in chocolate powder. The food was brilliant and I can honestly say this place really gave my daughter a birthday to remember.

She made me feel really bad...also my salmon was so overcooked, it was rock hard and chewy...at least I didn't need to pay for my salmon but I was told off... The only good thing is the place, it looks like any of the american dinners in USA. They should learn nice manners from them as well...of course I won't return

Average cost for a meal was £15, sirloin steak was £19, lager was £5+ a pint and soft drinks around £3.50 Service was great but the food (although ok) was not to the quality of the expense

First visit in many years, was pleasantly surprised at the speed of service & food quality.

Great experience at Frankie and Benny's Oxford at lunchtime, staff were really accomodating of our daughter's milk allergy and were helpful, provided a pad which made it easy to filter only the items that she could have that were dairy free and were very careful when taking our order. All in all they made eating out a pleasant experience which frequently with an allergy isn't the case.

Best food, best service great atmosphere. Burgers and pizzas are amazing. Cold drinks and shakes 😜. Kids loving it 🙂. Even can make their own pizza if they are nice and polite with the chef's. Definitely will visit again.

Not the most welcoming of establishment’s In need of a refurb in my opinion, we had coffee as the other drinks seemed over priced, food was brought out fairly quickly, I had a rack of ribs which was adequate and my wife had Carbonara which was bowl of pasta with little sauce and little bacon, had a lot better like I say it was adequate but nothing to write home about.

Been here a few times but most recently went here with 5 of my friends, one of our friends smashed a glass by accident and the staff couldn't have been more understanding and helpful. Moved us from our table, one of the waitresses even refilled all of our drinks in case of any shards. One poor waitress came back to our table 4 or 5 times due to our indecisiveness on ordering and couldn't thank the staff team enough. 5/5 for customer service and it even led to me giving the waitress a tip (which might I add I've never done before). Dropped a 1 because I feel like the food variation is very small and the menu could do with some more additions to appeal to more people but as I said, 5/5 for everything else. I'm still praying that both the waitresses that served our table get a payrise for putting up with us alone.

It was as good as you’d expect from frankie and bennys. The reason there’s not 5 stars is because it was like they didn’t want us to pay the bill. We were ignored when signalling for help from several staff members. The end of the experience should be smooth and quick. This made it long and irritating.

Below average food, just brown, not a salad in sight. I didn't like my espresso martini much either. Service was okay, chips were nice, just some colour on the plate would be nice. It was very expensive for what we had.

Just horrible food greasy and cold

Got desert takeout on weekend away in Oxford, the quality was very poor, apple crumble under cooked as was chocolate brownie. The third item aero ice cream combo was runny and bad quality. Very disappointed for the price we paid (£18) Do not recommend getting desert here!
