Frankie and Benny's in York

Booked for lunch here and were met by a waiter at the door. He was wearing a face mask but when he spoke we couldn’t understand anything he said other than the word “pizza”!! He then started to lead us to a table but we asked him to repeat what he had said. This time we understood “no pizza”. We had to confirm a further two or three times that he meant there was no pizza available, which eventually he did. He spoke so fast and with such a strong accent that it was impossible to tell what he said. He obviously assumed that we didn’t like pizza as he was intent on showing us to our table - wrong! An Italian restaurant that doesn’t have pizza - never heard of this before - useless. Oh, and thanks for sending me and our 4 year in the total wrong direction for your toilet!! Spite or incompetence?! We walked to Bella Italia and understood everything the waitress said and had a great meal including pizza!!!

Had the pleasure of being served by Sarah last week. Wonderful and personable service not treated as customers but as friends. We will be back! Looking forward to seeing you again Sarah Thanks again!! X

called in as a family of 5 for dinner two small children service to start was fine order was taken quickly and drinks arrived, but thats where it ends, waited over an hour for food when I asked how long they couldn't tell me but said they had stopped accepting people in! well thats no good to my family with hungy children, we walked out refusing to pay for drinks and went to mcdonalds!! I understand staff shortages but it wasn't busy, however takeaway meals seemed to be flying out 😡 if they had given us warning of the wait I wouln't of chosen to stay and could of fed my children happily elsewhere, we won't be coming back sort it out!!!

Lovely food and fantastic service from our server, Sofia. We would happily give her a job! We've never been to this chain before but were pleasantly surprised. The wine was also very drinkable. If you're shopping in the area and want food that's not too pricey, this place is above average. Highly recommend.

Absolutely brilliant food and eager staff left a £10 tip on door dum waiter but no one saw me. Appreciate everything done today

We visited as a family of 10 at 4.30pm so was very quiet. Took ages to take drinks order first. Although our waitress was friendly enough the service was poor. My daughter ordered a caesar salad without chicken due to not eating meat. She had eaten about 3 forks full and then looked at me close to tears, she had just chewed on what she thought was a crouton but turned out to be a piece of chicken. She was mortified. The first member of staff we told looked shocked but just walked off and told our waitress who took another 5 minutes to come to the table. My daughter was so upset and also embarrassed at the fuss. The waitress did ask if we wanted a fresh one, however the automatic thing she should have done was just take it away. As my daughter is very quiet and hates attention just said it was fine. It wasn't fine!!! It was far from fine. They said they would take her meal off the bill, but as we were using a 241 voucher we would have been getting the meal free anyway. The manager couldn't be bothered by this and made no attempt to sort the problem out. Eventually after my brother in law had to almost lose his temper, the manager eventually knocked 10% off the bill but proceeded to add a £10 service charge!!!! Absolutely disgusting, we certainly won't be going back any time soon!!!! Disappointing frankie and Benny's!!!!!!

Had the garlic bread and vegan burger and was very poor. Staff seem overly stretched and took very long to collect our order/provide our bill. Wouldn’t return unfortunately!

Came for birthday meal, mother hasn't been before she is also a very selective eater she loved it! Staff where amazing especially jamie! All compliments to the chefs also! super understanding of my disability they swapped sweetcorn for onion rings very accommodating of my food allergy! Highly recommended!

Eve took us to our seats and looked after us all night, even bringing the birthday cake. fantastic service

Eve, looked after us this afternoon/evening, when we arrived we were seated promptly and our drinks order taken. We could not of asked for a better waitress she was very attentive and very patient too. looking after eight adults and five children, she has a fantastic memory too remembering who ordered what even when the children swapped seat. The food was delicious too, all three courses of it 😋 Thank you Eve for being so patient with us and making our experience a great one.

I visited this restaurant a few weeks ago, this is the first time I have visited this particular restaurant and I do not intend on visiting again. On arrival, I was told to wait for a table at the bar, which is absolutely understandable as I hadn’t booked a table. We were stood at the bar around 20 minutes and in that time, the male at the bar didn’t once ask if we would like any drinks, but served a couple behind us after about 30 seconds. Once we sat down, I ordered drinks with the waitress straight away, and told her of my allergy. This was possibly the only thing that was dealt with correctly. She suggested certain mains to avoid and that she would personally inform kitchen of this. I waited around 20 minutes to order my mains after this, having been walked past plenty of times by the same waitress. She was dealing with the table behind us and didn’t once come over to ask if we needed anything. Once ordered, there was a short wait for food, which we very much appreciated after waiting so long to order. When they arrived, we weren’t asked if we would like any extras (sauces etc) and had to leave the table to ask for a side plate for myself. When these we cleared, we asked the waiter for the evening menu back to which we were responded with a very puzzled expression. We waited a good 10 minutes before these were brought over. In the meantime, I had ordered more drinks and these hadn’t been brought over. I could see them waiting on the dispense station and decided I had to collect them myself. When I got to the bar the server didn’t apologise for the inconvenience, which I thought was rude. After finally receiving the evening menus, we were approached by a waiter, 40 minutes later, and asked if we wanted the bill. We hadn’t even ordered desserts at this time and he took the order and brought them out straight away. Having dined on this menu before, I know the portion I was given was not to spec and that I was given a smaller one to usual. However, I didn’t complain as I was just happy to actually be in receipt of something. When we got the bill, i noticed that the evening menu we received on site was £1 more expensive than the one advertised online. I did not mention this to the waiter, but this is something that you should be aware of. As working as a waitress in a similar establishment is my full time job, I do understand that sometimes service cannot be given at 100% and that things “happen” sometimes. However my visit on this occasion, I received some of the worst service I have ever been given. I will not be returning to this restaurant and would suggest you wouldn’t either.

Had a lovely 3 course meal on Tuesday,staff were attentive and the food was absolutely lush! Highly recommend,even asked us if we had any allergies

On a stormy day in York I had the pleasure of taking 12 children to this restaurant as part of my son's birthday party treat. The stormy weather was nothing compared to controlling 12 excited 8 year olds! I have to say that the restaurant handled this big group with ease (15 of us in total). The staff were nothing but friendly and helpful when I'm sure they could have easily found the kids a bit much. The service was punctual and accurate, the food was delicious and there were no long waits despite the restaurant being full. I'm very grateful to them for making the meal pass with ease, especially to the lovely Eve who looked after our table so very well. Looking forward to going again, without 12 children 😁

At the time of writing this I am not feeling well at all. Went here today with family for lunch. Simple order kids nuggets and pizza meal. Nuggets dry and pizza was frankly a flat bread and with cheese and tomato on it. An absolute load of crap!

Had a really great meal, food arrived fast and was delicious and service from our waiter Ethan was great.

Excellent pizzas, enjoyed the food. catered for a large work drinks party very well. I would recommend very much.

Great and friendly service by Marian... The meal was great like it always it and it has such a wonderful atmosphere. We travel a long way just to go to this Frankie & Benny's even though there are nearer ones to us. The atmosphere in this one is second to none and the service is superb. The highlight of the service is definitely Marian who always looks after you and always brings service with a smile and a laugh... He is a credit to the restaurant!! :)

Seated and served quickly, not impressed by the quality or taste of the food. I had the half rack of ribs and supposedly BBQ but didn’t taste of that. A very small portion for the cost of a half rack. Would rather go to TGI fridays.

Went out for a meal at this frankie and bennys since the one in clifton was excellent we thought that it would be the same at the Van Gard centre up at monks cross. The service from the waiters was friendly and quick. There wasnt many people in the resturant at the time so we got our starters then mains rather quickly. The atmosphere was lovely with the music playing in the background and everywhere was clean.

We have used this restaurant many times before but today we ended up walking out without eating. We arrived at noon and the restaurant was quiet but it was 15 minutes before our order was taken. There were only 3 staff working (2 taking orders and 1 just wiping tables), but it appeared they were having problems managing the orders. Food and drinks were mounting up at the pass as the staff sat more customers and took more orders. We could see our coffees on the bar for at least 20 minutes but they were never delivered to our table. After 40 minutes we left without receiving anything. This is not what we have experienced before but we were not prepared to wait any longer. During school holidays there needs to be a higher staff to customer ratio.

Just popped in for a drink and great friendly service from Matt and Sammy on the bar. Will be back!!

Meal as per, as usual, prompt and friendly service. Attentive by both Eve and another male member of staff. You pay not much more than a visit to a supermarket cafe ... big difference... quality of food, service etc. Just so Frankie and Bennys..just so !

We went for a family meal at frankie and Benny's. Expectations were low. I can honestly say that despite it being extremely busy, the staff were engaged, polite and helpful (thanks Rowan).

We've eaten and Frankie and Bennys countrywide. This one is no different to most of the others. Staff were friendly and the food was as expected.

Seated straight away..bonus right. Well then it took 40 meals to come take our food and drinks order, by this time I had gone to the bar to get drinks as we thought they forgot. Then another 45 minutes later after chasing it up our food arrived...wasn't great, garlic bread cold but pasta boiling hot, some rouge salad in my sons beans. Now to top it all we've all got upset stomachs, not great. Never again. Let down right from the start.

We haven't visited Frankie and Benny's for some time and went on the spur of the moment, so pleased we did.

I visited with my partner Last night to be greeted by a server called Rowan, he then continued to serve us all night and made us feel very welcome making sure our food and drinks were to our satisfaction which it was! The food was delicious! We will definitely be back again as we had no problems at all and the service was lovely, many thanks to Rowan x

Really enjoyed our meal at F&B;, just a quick nip out and have a bit of food but made all the better by Eve our server for the evening.

Thank you so much to all the staff at Frankie&Benny;’s at Vangarde for helping us to celebrate our son Jacobs 11th birthday today. A special thank you to Eve our waitress. She was so efficient, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant looked great and although it was really busy we didn’t have to wait long for the gorgeous food. Great place, really friendly staff and lovely food. We’ll be back.

Excellent eatery if you are shopping in the area. They do 2 or 3 course lunch with good choices, range and prices. Very helpful staff in great setting.

Excellent food and service tonight at Frankie and Benny's at Vanguard. Our waitress was Eva and she fantastic, really helpful and accommodating, great with the kids, listened to them, engaged in conversation with them. Went out of her way to make sure we had what we wanted.

Visited for lunch today and the food and service was spot on, also it was very child friendly as we had a 1year old with us! Could not help us anymore if they tried especially the waitress who served us Eve she entertained my little niece when she visited the table with food or drinks. She made us feel very welcome in the restaurant and because of this excellent service I will be returning very soon! Thanks to Eve she even introduced us to the chiefs Great family experience

Went for dinner with my daughter on a friday evening. Entered the restaurant and was greeted on arrival. The very polite and helpful waitress asked if we had any allergies, which i told her i avoid nuts where possible. I was handed a tablet which said what i can eat which was very useful. Lovely waitress and excellent food.

Waited 35 minutes for my little girls food, eventually the sweet came, but no pizza.so she ate the chocolate fudge cake, which was ok..pizza still didn’t arrive, so asked for the bill as we had to leave. When I pointed out that we had not had a pizza, the guy on the till had to check with the manager, after a while I just got charged for the sweet..staff didn’t really seem all that bothered if we had got our order or not.

We visited this eatery on a Monday evening. We ordered carbonara, mac n cheese, pork chop Milanese and sirloin steaks, and a pint of Magners. For dessert, we had vanilla milkshake, straight up waffles and ice cream. The food was decent but service could be faster.

Visited for meal between shows. Looked after by the wonderful Rowan. Excellent prompt service. Well worth a visit.

Me and my friend visited for tea . Very friendly welcome we got seated straight away as it wasn’t busy and our drinks and starter came quick but we found ourselves waiting over an hour for our mains and watched as other tables that came in after us where getting their mains. We waited as we were aware we ordered a start. But the wait become longer and longer and one of the waitresses informed us our order is on its way (this is without us even mentioning we had been waiting) I told her we had been waiting a while and she said I know and she offered us another drink as she had seen we had drank ours. We accepted. But these drinks didn’t come until after we ate our food. We got no apology for this and paid full price

Arrived and was seated with my friends who had arrived slightly before me. My order was taken swiftly and promptly arrived along with the rest of the meals that had been ordered just before I arrived. Our server was delightful.

The food was lovely but the service was shocking. We didn't have any plates with are starters and the bill was given to us after our main course we never got asked if we wanted anything else.

Very good service, good food would come here again. Had steak and was cooked exactly as we requested, also had pasta which was really good.

It's been a while since I last frequented a F&B;'s, and I remember why I enjoy coming. The food is great, loads of variety, ample portions, reasonable value and friendly service. We enjoyed dough balls, delicious garlic prawns, bolognese and meatball penne, calzone, a tasty wrap and more I can't recall. There are also loads of delicious puds but we had to run to the movies so ran out of time. Do recommend, although they could do with a few more waitresses.....

Just had the vegan burger here. I’m not vegan but tried it on the whim. OMG! Absolutely awesome. The thing tasted like meat 100. So good. Great service great people. Viva Vegan. Viva Frankie & Bennie!

We called in on a Wednesday night and was looked after by Rowen who was brilliant, he also remembered what my son liked to eat, a garlic bread pizza lightly cooked. Rowen's a really good charater and his service was nothing less than brilliant. The food we had was really good too and we didn't have to wait long for our food so overall this was an excellent night @ F&B;.

Primera y última vez! ¡Se quedó esperando por el hombre del bar durante unos 10 minutos mientras terminaba lo que estaba haciendo! Servicio caro, frío y poco profesional. Los chefs hablaron mucho y gritaban lo que no podíamos escucharnos. Después de que nos fuimos, mi compañera dijo que constantemente le hacían guiños y burlas del chef detrás del área de servicio. ¡Quién estaba detrás de la barra metiendo Budweisers en contenedores metálicos altos cuando nos fuimos! ¡Supongo que fue para los chicos de la cocina! Parecía un estado con una camiseta gris y una chaqueta de chef deshecha, definitivamente NO recomendaría este lugar, pizza fría, una pequeña porción de papas fritas y pequeños calamares, supongo que es solo cuestión de tiempo antes de que se rompa, estamos voy a ir a Giraffe pero estaba cerrado, (fue anoche un domingo) ¡Le daría un "0" si pudiera! ¡No estoy seguro de por qué tienes que dar un "1"! ¡Mi compañero no me contó sobre esto hasta que llegamos a casa o me habría enfrentado al gerente en ese momento! ¡Como estaba de espaldas a la cocina no podía ver esto! IRREAL: ¡salimos a disfrutar de una buena comida que no nos dejaron intimidar!

Food was great and good atmosphere but one thing that really stood out was the exemplar service by one of the young members of staff there - I believe to be called Rowan if my memory serves me correctly! The restaurant was very busy and perhaps short staffed but Rowan made sure that we were seen to very promptly and handled the stress of covering many tables at once. We will definitely return.

Early evening and met promptly at the door service was spot on from Rowan who looked after us. The New York Giant pizza, 10 or 15in was excellent thin base and fresh ingredients all the result of the pizza oven. Tiramisu was brilliant. Left with a smile.

Went this evening to frankie & bennys for a pre birthday meal, I had an idea the service was going to be poor, because they are advertising for staff on their window, I was correct, the service was appalling! After waiting an age even to be asked for a drink, we left, we’ve never, ever walked out in a restaurant before & we use this one about twice a month, we will be thinking carefully before returning. Poor!!!

Visited early evening restaurant was quiet so no excuse for the poor service, Ordered burgers after having to chase a waiter to take our order. Poor value meal consisted of a bland burger, two slices of gherkin, tiny shreads of lettuce and a slice of onion and 11 chips.

Franky and Benny’s cancelled my order tonight after accepting it nearly 2hrs prior. I wouldn’t mind that it was cancelled so much (I know it’ll be busy on a Saturday night, and I ordered fairly late), but it’s not ok to accept the order then wait until that much later to cancel.

Seated by Ethan who was lovely and friendly (Thank you). Fast service and great food as always, never disappointed. Great atmosphere and always busy no matter what time of day. Would recommend a visit when out shopping in York. Great for all ages.

We chose Frankie & Benny’s for a double birthday celebration hubby & sons. 13 of us including 5 Grandchildren under 5. Seated by Morgan and nothing was too much trouble we had drinks orders taken & brought quickly food orders kids food brought first then their puddings when adults eating main everything went smoothly. Colouring for the kids drinks when we were running out couldn’t have asked for better will definitely be going back and highly recommend.

Having a fairly clear Friday afternoon, we decided to call here for a late lunch. It was a very enjoyable meal, a lovely atmosphere in the place (definitely helped by a great selection of soul/ Atlantic/ stax music.

Frankies is our all time fave place to eat out, we can never fault it! Today Rowan made sure everything was absolutely spot on, thankyou and see you soon! 😀

I visited Frankie and benny’s today with my family to ourselves after a hard week. Ethan was our waiter and gave us excellent service, being very prompt to satisfy our needs. The food was lovely too. Will definitely visit again!

I cannot thank the staff at Frankie and Benny’s enough for looking after our table of 9. I can’t remember the name of the team member I left the cake with, but they were wonderful and really looked after us to make it feel special.

We were a party of 12 with ages ranging from 1 to 67 and arrived unannounced yet were soon seated and greeted. Orders were taken promptly and delivered quickly. Service from Rowan in particular was considerate, prompt with good communication and nothing seemed a problem.

Another lovely breakfast with friends, we love the staff here there all so friendly and it was great to meet new staff member Alex, he’ll fit in really well very approachable and friendly

Good points - excellent value for money, huge menu choice to suit all tastes, extremely fast service, garlic bread very tasty, lovely cheesecake, fairly good portion size.

Took my family for Sunday breakfast (9 in total). 2 coffee latte's and jug of milk were off. These were replaced. When the young man who served the drinks brought them, he carried the cups on the saucers. and steadied the cups by placing both his thumbs on the top rim of the cup - YUCK.

Came here, hoping for a quick, light lunch with 2 children. It wasn’t busy inside, just as you would expect for a Monday afternoon, so that was why we chose here, as the children were hungry and we expected that the service would be normal, having only a handful of other customers. We arrived at 12.45pm and ordered drinks after 20 minutes of waiting. After waiting again, for a further 20 minutes for these drinks to arrive, I had to go and ask where they were. Following this, the drinks were brought to our table, but even then, we still were not asked for our food order. Again, I had to get up and go and ask for this to be taken. From the moment we ordered our food, it then took 1 hour for this to arrive. Once finished, we waited a further 20 minutes for our table to be cleared. We did not leave Frankie & Benny’s until 3.15pm, ruining our plans for the rest of the day. Certainly will not be returning here.

This has to be the worst restaurant experience I have ever had.

On Friday 19th I visited at 2:30pm. After being seated it took 15 minutes for our order to be taken. There were two members of staff, one of which dressed in her own clothes so I assume management. The young boy was rushed off his feet, working in the bar, taking orders, in the kitchen making desserts. While the manager was stood talking to a table of what looked like her friends. I received my starter at 3:10pm after it had been sat for 10 minutes on the bar. Had no cutlery on my table to eat with. The tables around me either waiting for their orders to be taken or waiting for their food that’s sat under the heat lamps. Around that time a waitress came on and cleaned up all the dirty tables and took the food out that the manager had left. Hats off to the young pair who were doing their job, sorry your management is so shocking!!

We recently went in for breakfast which was served as soon as freshly cooked - so sometimes you have to wait - it’s cooked from fresh.

Went for tea as a treat for my daughter. Service horrendous, waited 40 min for meal while we watched table next to us devour 3 courses, Sw our meals sat on server counter for at least ten mins before they were brought to us. No apologies for delay from staff. Only good thing was the waitress (who was really friendly) who served our food brought us extra when we questioned whether our daughters food was a big eater’s portion (which it clearly wasn’t), we were all disappointed, food was average at best, won’t be returning in a hurry

Very good but spoilt by being cold. One of us was a coeliac and had their meal obviously cooked to order but mine must have been stood waiting as it really was too cold to enjoy which was a shame given the quality of ingredients. Did not complain purely for timevit took to come in the first place

We visited the restaurant for my sons 4th Birthday. Jake waited on our table and he was brilliant with our son. We’ve eaten at the restaurant a few times and my son loves it when the birthday music comes on and seeing what arrived for the persons who’s birthday it was. So today I informed Jake it was our sons birthday, however as usual he only wanted a lolly for dessert, so I just asked if the birthday music could be played. Jake went that extra mile and brought out a scoop of ice cream with a candle in along with my sons ice lolly! His face was priceless and he was over the moon that this was for his birthday! I just want to say a huge thank you, you made my 4 year olds birthday! As usual the food was great and so was the service! Will definitely return!

We were served by Matt. He had great service and went out his way to help with any needs we needed, was very polite and well mannered and was always making sure our meals were great. Definitely coming back, perfect food.

I came here this morning for breakfast with my Dad. We had excellent service from Matt and Charlotte! The unlimited breakfast and coffee deals were spot on!

Todo el mundo sabe que F & Bs es una cadena y la comida es la misma en todas las sucursales, pero lo que realmente hizo que esta visita se destaque fue nuestro servidor Matt. Escogimos F & Bs en esta ocasión porque escuchamos que tienen un nuevo menú vegano que es perfecto para mí ya que estoy libre de lácteos. Las opciones del menú vegano eran INCREÍBLES y pude personalizar una pizza normal al intercambiar el queso, ¡lo cual es una ventaja! Matt fue muy atento y me sentí muy confiado de que la comida era segura para mí ya que no solo consultó con el chef, sino que también sacó una tableta y me mostró los ingredientes que contienen alérgenos que se usan en las comidas. La comida llegó rápida y con una sonrisa encantadora y fue de alta calidad como siempre. ¡Los pudines veganos también hicieron mi día! ! ¡Volveremos y preguntaremos por Matt! Qué crédito.

We were served by Matt. The food was amazing and the night was made better by his service. Can't thank him enough, definitely coming back Hes a hero!

Cenamos aquí inesperadamente después de reservar otro restaurante que resultó ser cerrado! La comida era buena pero el servicio era excepcional. Matt era nuestro camarero y, a pesar de estar muy ocupado, nunca lo demostró. Se tomó el tiempo con los niños, aguantó nuestras peticiones a veces ridículas y ¡hizo nuestra noche! Él es un crédito absoluto para Frankie y Bennys.

Stopped here for brunch whilst shopping at Monks Cross. Eggs Benedict was superb. Veggie breakfast nice but toast was cold. Service was swift and professional. Gave us the fuel we needed to shop again!

I visited the restaurant on Friday for lunch with my husband and 2 children and what can I say we had a lovely time the restaurant was busy but that didn’t matter the staff were so friendly especially our server she was so happy and helpful and was great with my 2 girls asked them about their half term and if they were having fun the food was great and portion sizes were just right for us and because we were sat in front of the kitchen the girls got to watch the chefs and they even waved at them which I thought was a lovely touch we just want to say thank you we can’t wait to come back

First waiter was great but then they changed shifts and it all seemed to go wrong.

We have just visited this branch of Frankie & Benny’s and what a lovely meal. Our waiter was Matt who was not only friendly but helpful and informative. A member of our family is gluten and dairy intolerant and is very cautious when ordering. Matt was knowledgable about products and food available to her. He even checked with the chef and management returning with a tablet showing the information to her. Matt is not only a credit to the branch but also to Frankie & Benny’s as a whole

Great food and service at Frankie and Bennys tonight, staff always happy to help, as a coeliac it is important my food is right, they always double check to make sure they have it correct, the restaurant is always clean and tidy also the toilets are always clean, although they did run out of my ice cream ha ha, I would choose this restaurant more due to its happy friendly atmosphere about other Frankie and Bennys which I have also visited. Well done to our waiter don’t know his name

Our family of 5 called in for tea today, the Sunday before Christmas. Good food (although slightly expensive), very friendly staff and nice clean environment. No issues from me
