Went for a Sunday carvery which was very tasty, place was full which is always a good sign. Really friendly staff too, I’ll be back.

They do a carvery for Sunday lunch which is fun but the food was only average in my opinion. Service was friendly though and the pub is in a good spot for a walk or drive afterwards.

A few drinks before,/after racing prompt and polite service, nice and roomie great atmosphere.

Amazing Sunday roast...can not recommend highly enough the meat the fresh vegetables truly beautiful....

great little boozer, lovely guinness. cant wait to go back in a couple of weeks. friendly staff, ideal for an hour or so before going to the races.

Friendly serving staff who offered me the choice of how much lime cordial I’d like with my soda. I was a bit surprised a lime soda was £2.10 which is more than I’d pay in town. Outside bench seating at the front which is quite nice if you can ignore the road noise. Nice little pub overall I’d say.

Walked from Upper Beeding to here on the past bank holiday because why not, sadly couldn’t stick around to try the food as I needed to catch a bus home but the lady at the bar was very friendly and gave a great service for what was a couple of pints me and my friend had. Manager turned up near the end of my stint and he was very friendly and had a brief chat. Would definitely go back (probably on a bus rather than the five hour walk!) to try food one day.

Thomas held a reservation open for us a large group, without a deposit requested, after we held a service at Brighton and Preston cemetery. I could not give a specific number. In the end it was a large group. And he was easily able to cater for us. Service - outstanding. Customer service - superb. Carvery - excellent. ( Vegan options included). This pub is a hidden gem, close to Brighton Racecourse and South Downs Way. A return visit will happen, as its in a great spot with fairly good parking.

Great pub and not far from us. Food is excellent and the carvery on a Sunday is amazing! Thoroughly enjoy this pub. It is cozy and very friendly. Staff are attentive, helpful and always greet you with a smile. Dog friendly too.

Had a roast there yesterday it was delicious. It's so nice visitings a pub that has fresh vegetables and proper roast potatoes in plenty to help yourself, Not cooked in the deep fat frier from frozen, yep I've had a few of those. The Fox on the Downs a few pubs could learn from you.

Went here as a student with some friends. Had to listen to people calling out antisemitic rhetoric and being harassed by a drunk guy who had a lot to say about my friend’s ethnicities. Other patrons making racist jokes about us. Just came in for a couple of beers. Honestly avoid at all costs at night. Shameful people like that still exist. Felt very unsafe the whole time.

What a lovely little pub. I was on a walk and stopped here as it was on my route. Great service. Lovely pint of IPA. A bit of seating out the front (and I think a bit downstairs but the door was closed). A decent food menu, too, but I didn't play that game.

Beautiful pub and the food is amazing third time eating here and I recommend the roasts.

First time visiting here and it'll be the last. The girl who was serving was ignorant and didn't explain we needed to buy a ticket so when I asked she seemed put out to have to explain the purchase of the ticket. The food was dry and bland though the chef was very pleasant but unfortunately the food was tasteless.

The best Sunday carvery I have had anywhere. If you are visiting the area make sure to book a table as it is only served until its gone. Three meats to choose from(Gammon,beef,turkey or combination of the three) plenty of veg including colcannon mash all cooked up a great standard.

We hired the pub for my sisters wake. Perfect location - close to Woodvale. Free parking across at the garden centre. Lovely atmosphere, much more cosy and intimate than a lot of venues in the area. Food was fantastic and a lot of it, service was superb. Catered for vegetarian guests and easy access for wheelchair users. I highly recommend the Fox on the Downs for functions following a funeral. Well done . Mike

What's not to like, a pub, Bierre Moretti on tap, ( not the only drinks of course ) , lovely hosts, outside seating nearly opposite Brighton Race course, and if you like your grub, then your in luck here, great food .. should be 6 stars but ......

If your after a cosy pub with really friendly staff and nice pub grub. This is a lovely little stop off if you have been for a walk in the local area or just fancy a pint and some Irish stew (also do a decent roast) all very reasonably priced

5☆..My friend recommended Sunday Roast. I'm glad I took his advice. We took it to go and it was absolutely delicious! Veg-perfect! Potatoes light, fluffy and crushy. Loads of Beef and Pork. Highly recommended and will ordering a delivery in the near future or when weather cheers up will go for drinks and dinner. (Glad I ordered directly as Just Eats had a huge back-log, plus raining) Wrapping Staff were friendly from phone call to greeting me.

Refused to serve me chips after coming out of the mental health hospital because I looked too drunk which I'm on heavy medication and wasn't even ordering alcohol. Horrible judgemental women behind the bar!!!

I thought this was a great pub - I have driven past for years and have never been in before. I went on a Thursday night and it was very busy with the quiz. The staff were really friendly and helpful and alcohol free beer was a totally reasonable price which I was pleased about. I didn't eat but everyone with me ate and the food looked excellent - good portion sizes and they all seemed pleased. I was also happy that the guy at the bar kept me updated about the Brighton score!

I have been past this pub a few times and always fancied trying it. Today I did and it didn't disappoint. The food was amazing. I had blue cheese on chips and on garlic bread. Absolutely incredible. The pub had some lovely quirky areas, especially downstairs. We'll be back.

A great little pub. Unfortunately, I went on a quiet rainy weekday so can't really comment on atmosphere, but from what I saw, I would guess it has a great atmosphere. I had chilli and cheese on home made chips, it was lovely.

Second time we've been here in a few weeks. Great carvery, easy going and friendly atmosphere. You are served beef, pork, or turkey (or some of all three), and a Yorkshire pudding. You then serve yourself from roast potatoes, mash, carrots and peas, cheesey cauliflower and brocoli, red cabbage, and gravy. There's also decent selection of sauces, horseradish, cranberry, mustard etc. Good beers and good food. Happy days. Getting served in seconds is always tempting on a Sunday when time is limited. We'll be back, maybe check the garden out next time.

Just had one of the nicest carvery's in a very long time. Staff are fantastic, so friendly and welcoming, the food was cooked to perfection. This place is definately worth a visit. Will visit everytime im back in the country.

Unbelievable the blonde really old lady was so rude more interested with her conversation than serving and then had ago at me because my text tone went off and apparently interrupted it made me feel so un welcome and that is a real shame because its normally such a good pub unfortunately some staff really affect the experience of such an amazing establishment just really sad to see

Yes the reviews given about there Sunday Carvery I thought I would give it a visit while staying in Brighton for the week,and I wasn't disappointed the food was spot on really nice and the music in the back round was right up my street,it was absolutely Perfick. 💯

Beer was poor today and a long wait to be served .more interested in serving dinner. No bitter and a bottle of ferret which is £2 in supermarket £5.80.needless to say I wont be back

The music was a bit loud for my liking as we were next to the speaker but the other guests I was with liked listening to the music. It bought back memories of old days. Nice pub situated in Brighton. Handy for visitors to the Racecourse, Garden Centre and Brighton Hospital

I can't believe that they couldn't do a cup of tea or coffee for a designated driver. Apparently, the kettle was broke. Seems to be the same excuse across Brighton 😡

Pre booked a table of 11 made up of younger kids, older kids and adults including a wheelchair user. Food was decent and staff were happy to accommodate as they didn't have a specific kids menu but adapted a couple of the dishes to make them smaller. I didn't have dessert but those who did felt that they weren't as good as the main courses and were probably not made from scratch but the staff were friendly and the main meals were tasty. Lovely burgers! No disabled toilet access though so patrons just need to be mindful of that as the loo is downstairs. Would re - visit and happily eat here again.

Visited recently for lunch and ended up staying for hours — great ambience, choice of background music and very relaxing . The leek pie was yummy and the wine very reasonably priced — great stuff. It made a dull, cold Saturday afternoon a very pleasant experience. We will be back.

Great pub in a good location for any race horse fans or football fans using the park and ride atntue racecourse. Beautiful carvery and lovely lady who served it. Reasonably priced aswell.

What a massive disappointment today's roast dinner was! I've heard so much good feedback about this place so we ordered a roast to be delivered. It arrived cold, stale, potatoes were like bullets and it all tastest like it was days old! Absolute let down and would never recommend

We visited the pub on 2nd Jan2023, party of six ranging in age from 30s to 90s. Three ordered the fish and chips, said it was delicious, well cooked and crispy batter. Two ordered the chicken burger and chips, they were very pleased, bun contained two chicken fillets. One ordered the chicken salad no onions. Very nice, chicken tender, and they remembered the no onions. Dessert - 1 lemon cheesecake, 1 sticky toffee pudding, 1 chocolate fudge cake and two cinnamon waffles. Empty plates a round. Would highly recommend. Staff nice and friendly.

Delicious food and lovely service

Some friends and I went to the Carvery here last Sunday and I have to say it was delicious ... three types of meat all cooked to perfection, delicious roast potatoes and very tasty gravy and a very good selection of veg .. highly recommended They also do a very good pub quiz on a Thursday evening

Thoroughly deserves its good reviews We had the Carvery, There was a great choice of meats which were cooked perfectly. God choice of veg and sauces. Staff we’re friendly and helpful. Didn’t feel rushed, very good atmosphere. If you are looking for a Carvery this is a good choice. .

An excellent gem with great staff food and old pub ambience no teles or loud music with outside seating and the Sunday roasts are fabulous! We are even going to be using it as a location in a new film xxxx. And dog friend xxxxx

Absolutely the best roast dinner I have eaten in any pub in East Sussex in years . Full of flavour and so fresh . Meat was cooked to perfection . I hold a level three certificate in food hygiene and I can tell you this pub deserves 5* plus on everything . Felt so very welcome too . I cannot thank the owners and staff enough for beautiful Sunday lunch ,& drinks and I will see you again very very soon .

Staff are rude; despite being parents, child are hugely UNWELCOME in this establishment. They also like to listen into private conversations, warning subjects aren’t encouraged within public houses (subjects around the neglect of NHS services towards suicidal patients 🤷🏼‍♀️) .

Totally disappointed with their service, ordered a roast x2 and x2 puddings via Just Eat. Meat was disgusting and potatoes rock hard. One of the puddings hadn't been cooked at all. Food ended up thrown in the bin.

Three of us when for Sunday Lunch was very well cooked and very tasty. Only thing is the Yorkshire puds if they were home made would be brilliant.

Went there just for drinks after taking dog for a walk. Got told by landlady (if think) 2 steaks £13.99 so had to try & omg it was delicious defo will be back.....this is a must try you will not be disappointed.

The BEST Sunday roast around. We pop in most Sundays for it and it’s absolutely delicious. We also go in regularly for the Monday steak night and the Wednesday 2 for 1 meal deal. Staff are so friendly, and it’s a real family friendly pub. We will keep coming back. Highly recommended!
