This pub used to be my local years ago and now we have moved away we thought we would come back to see what it’s like. We came down with a few friends on Sunday and the place was beautifully decorated for Christmas. The food was amazing and all the staff was friendly too especially our server Lee he was a delight to have, nothing was to much trouble very friendly guy made our visit exceptional. Always walking round with a big smile on his face and had a laugh we won’t forget, every pub needs a Lee. Will defiantly be back down after Christmas.

Incredible food is a great way to spend an evening anyways but topped with unmatchable customer service from Aisha, I don’t think my husband and I will be going anywhere else! Everyone was incredibly welcoming and friendly and nothing was ever too much trouble for Aisha, especially when my husband asked for extra gravy. Thank you so much for an awesome evening!

Хорошо приготовленная еда, вкусно и необычно. Обязательно еще раз приедем и порекомендуем другим. My only day off over the Christmas and New year so hubby decided to treat us to lunch. We were warmly welcomed, and advised that as we hadn’t booked we could have a table in the bar area. We were happy with that, and were very pleased with the range of food available on the menu. It all went down hill very quickly. I ordered luxury lasagne with garlic bread. Nothing luxurious about it, and the 2 tiny triangles of dry garlic bread were far from appealing. Hubby ordered the gourmet Gammon steak, which turns out to be exactly the same as the non gourmet variety apart from a tiny jug of sauce. We then ordered our desserts. 20 minutes after ordering our desserts the barmaid / waitress in her white long sleeved t shirt that really needed a good iron, came to clear our table of our dinner plates and asked if we would like desserts. Hubby said we have ordered and are waiting for them. A further 20 minutes later we decided we didn’t want to wait any longer, so asked for a refund, explaining that 40 minutes was too long to wait. After giving hubby a refund, this same barmaid went to the kitchen right in front of us and shouted “they don’t want it”. Well actually we did want it, but not after a ridiculous wait, and after your rude response we won’t be back!! If it had been busy I would understand, but we left past numerous empty tables and an empty car park!!

We visited the fox and hounds on a Sunday afternoon around 4 pm. We’re were told by a member of staff all of the empty tables in the restaurant were ‘reserved’ - when we left an hour and a half later these tables were still empty. Starters of pate came out with standard sliced bread not bloomer as stated on the menu. And clearly a packet pate! This took about half hour to be with us!’ Just to toast 2 pieces of bread and empty a packet in an fairly empty restaurant!!! Mains then came out with none of the sides we ordered. These arrived half way through - clearly forgotten about from the order. The staff were alll running around not knowing what was going on getting confused and asking customers what was going on and who was having what. Getting tables wrong. Shouting across the bar area and in the kitchen at each other! Awful environment to be in for a relaxed meal after a busy weekend!!!

I wanted to write how much I and many of my close friends and family highly rate this pub as I feel people only feel bothered to write something when they don't enjoy it and never tell you how much they enjoy it when they do. I took some clients and colleagues here for lunch today. It did not start well as the restaurant was very busy and did not seem to have many staff working, or at least that was the impression. We were advised when we ordered that there may be a wait for the meals due to how busy it was. When the meals arrived they were good pub grub. My cod batter was crispy and tasty although the cod itself was slightly overcooked. The chips were delicious. My clients said their starters and mains were great (one had the mushroom and a rib eye steak the other prawn cocktail and a rib eye steak and the third a rump steak). The restaurant is difficult to find if you don't know it's there or aren't following someone that does.Other than that I was pleased with the meal and would come back.

Portion sizes were generous, the food was hot and tasty. Not easy to find, non locals will need a sat nav. It gives the impression of an old country pub with beams, open fires but whilst it is 16th century it is only over the hill from the Hamble River, very much Howard's Way territory in old Bursledon.Certainly not lost deep in the Hampshire countryside .For lunch you will find a varied basic menu mostly of bar meal types, such as fish and chips. However the menu is big enough to suit all tastes with vegetarian options and a good choice of staters and deserts. Not fine dining with orders taken at the bar by friendly helpful staff..As mentioned the atmosphere is that of a country pub with tables either around the bar or in the attached old barn which was acquired from near Winchester and rebuilt on the site. The food was well cooked and quickly served.

Haven't been to Fox & Hounds for awhile so thought it would be nice to celebrate my mum's birthday here with the family. Arrived at 7.00pm, ordered our starters and mains at the bar at 7.25pm. Finally got our starters at 8.00pm after chasing. Starters weren't all that great, three of us had the prawn cocktail which consisted of one lettuce leaf and four prawns with tons of seafood sauce! Three others of our party had whitebait which wasn't too bad. Then we had a very long wait for our mains to come out, we again chased to see when they were coming, only to be told "sorry we are very busy tonight" (I know it was a Friday night, so they should have had more staff on!). Finally got our mains at 9.00pm, wish we didn't bother, looked like the food had been waiting around just like we had! Two of us had the battered fish and chips, fish was really mushy, not crispy at all. Gammon steak and chips was awful, very thin pieces of gammon. The belly pork arrived without roasted parsnips, as indicated on menu so had to ask for those! On the whole food wasn't all that much to write home about, service was appalling, we did complain and they did refund us for the three meals we we're happy about! Was hoping this place had got a lot better, the menu seemed really nice and the pictures look great, but was very disappointed! So sorry Fox and Hounds won't be coming back! God knows how you are going to cope at Christmas- I for one wouldn't want to pay £59.99 for a Christmas dinner at your establishment.

Unfortunately they had run out of a few main courses we wanted and two of the ales were also out. Alternatives selected we thoroughly enjoyed the meal, service was very good despite having to order food at the bar which can be busy at times. Shame they don't do waitress service, always think a pub could sell more if they paid a bit of attention to drink levels on the tables and checked to see if you require a top up etc. All in all it's a lovely pub and we will be revisiting.

For Starters I had Whitebait. This was a good portion (with chips this would have been enough for my dinner), unlike some places mean starter portions. For main I had the tiffin stacker of chicken tikka makhani curry, black lentil dhal and yellow rice. This came nicely laid out on a wooden board, with Naan, popadum and chutneys. Again a generous portion. For dessert I had Salted caramel banoffee cheese cake. A very good choice again. My wife had the fruit crumble, but found the cruble to be rather unsweatened, which was the only downside of the whole meal. Luckily there was enough of my desert to share with her.We always enjoy our visits to the lone barn because the foods good and it is so pretty inside the barn with the exposed beam work and suspended carts above you. Barmaid unwelcoming as we hadn't booked and seemed impatient and irritated as we placed our food and drinks order at the bar even though nobody else was waiting. Didn't tell us we needed to collect our drinks from the bar and just left them there. In contrast the waitress was very pleasant and helpful and retrieved our drinks for us.The food was served fairly quickly and was good enough and good value but nothing special. The overall experience of being treated like lesser mortals was unpleasant and not one I'm in any hurry to repeat. Service is important and courtesy doesn't cost anything but it can cost customers and has led to me giving my first negative review. We have eaten here several times before and generally found the food to be of a good standard. However, like many things in life, providing good food at the expense of everything else is a foolish game to play and after last night, this establishment is now in the same unique category as the Bold Forrester a few miles away.....that is permanently crossed off my list of places to eat or drink. The service was utterly appalling, and I feel somewhat qualified to judge being at the front of a customer orientated business myself. The establishment was not at all busy yet it took an age to get served thanks to the slowest bar staff I have ever come across (you order at the bar), and yes, they were the only one....apart from the person that seemed more intent on looking busy by shuffling around with a spray bottle of table cleaner! After a wait of over an hour for our main course we politely asked a member of serving staff where our mains were, the response a shockingly blunt "there's now a delay on food". Not a single apology, not a single attempt at finding out! Indeed said person disappeared into the kitchen, came back out and continued about their business as if nothing has happened! When settling the bill it was presenting to us with the comment "we've taken 25% off because of the problem". No, not even an apology, not even the slightest interest in either apologising or asking how everything else was. Of note was the 'in charge' person coming out to tell the bar person to discount the bill but not even bothering to look us in the eye and apologise/offer an explanation. In brief, good food, decidedly average choice of beer, utterly appalling customer service and clearly no management.

I don't write poor reviews lightly but bearing in mind we almost walked out I felt it only just to review our visit. The wait to order food and drinks was quite long owing to the single member of staff serving at the bar and taking food orders. She was painfully slow at everything. I was amazed at how long it took for her to achieve a single order and at one point wanted to offer to do our drinks myself as it would've been quicker! The starters arrived in reasonable time and were very nice. Then the finished plates sat in front of us for a VERY long time. Eventually they were cleared - a hopeful sign our mains were on their way! How wrong were we!! At about an hour since our starters I politely asked a passing waitress if she knew how much longer our meals would be as we had been waiting about an hour. A very blunt " well there is a bit of a wait now" before walking off. The four of us raised eyebrows and discussed the lack of customer focus in her answer. She passed us a few more times. (I would've come out of the kitchen and told us an expected delivery time to keep us happy - but then again I'm a customer focussed person!)We got to the point where we went to the bar to pay for our drinks and starters and go and get a curry - in credit to the slow barmaid she did then go to the kitchen and we were told our meals were being plated up and would be 2 minutes. We seriously started a timer and were fully prepared to leave if this wasn't the case.Unfortunately despite the barmaid specifically ordering no black pudding on the mixed grill (we saw her do this). The kitchen still plated it. A small detail for us but other people may be more fussy about these things. When we went to pay and leave the manager was seen to walk past and speak to the barmaid in front of us. The bill had 25% taken off. A good gesture, however a polite word from the manager to apologise for the delay and tell us she had done that would have meant we would have left with a much more favourable opinion of the place.Like the title said - the food was very nice. It's such a shame that I feel I cannot recommend a visit due to our overall experience on a Wednesday evening. Some basic customer service training needed for the staff.

Was informed by the staff that the halloumi from vegetarian fish and chips and the veggie burger are fried in with fish. All other pubs i know do not place a v next to their dishes on a menu if they are cooked in the same friers because this makes them not strictly vegetarian. This pub is putting a v next to their dish on the menu and calling them 'vegetarian fish and chips'. Misleading information to true vegetarians. How disappointing. Upon arrival we were told by a waitress that our booked table was in fact in the bar area, this wasn't what we were expecting as we were going to be paying restaurant prices and this wasn't exactly fair if we were having to sit in the busy bar area right next to the bar. I declined this seat and asked specifically to be sat in the barn restaurant instead. This wasn't accepted either the waitress told us all tables had been filled (even though when we all looked there was only 2 tables taken up). So we were given a nice enough table in the hall way which was much nicer than the bar. Out food order was taken but another friendlier girl at the bar as our table didn't have table service and we all ordered starters and mains. Unfortunately our starters took over 40 minutes to come out, even though the whole place wasn't exactly busy. We thought this was a bit weird as when we finished our plates took ages to be taken away as well. We then had to ask where our mains were as this again took a while to come out. But we did order a nice bottle of red wine which was really nice. When paying for our meal at the bar my partner was approached by one of the waitresses and asked a personal question about who he was as she 'recognize him'... I thought this was a bit strange when she was working and didn't seem very professional, she also dropped in a sarcastic comment when myself and my mum were talking about my partner which again I found quite rude. So after our visit here, I would say I would return if I again had a voucher to have a free pudding or starter but other than that I probably wouldn't want to pay full price for the poor service.

Came here in a party of 6 for Sunday Lunch at 2.00pm. Staff were lovely, front of house and bar lady very efficient and all staff smiling and helpful. I had booked and we had a round table in the window which was great because we could watch people outside running around to escape the wasps - its that time of year I'm afraid.Food was good, excellent choice of different meals. Two people thought the food was over salty but still ate all of it. Used Tesco vouchers which was fab. Definitely would come here again, the atmosphere and service are good for families, there were kids and babies, good changing/loos, and saw a couple of dogs at the bar. (4 legged variety).

We had not been to this pub/restaurant for a while and had read the mixed reviews before going. We wanted to sit at a table in the stable part of the restaurant as it has a lot of character. On arriving we were greeted by two lovely young girls who told us that we could sit anywhere as long as the table was not showing reserved. We just sat down and we were sternly told by a more mature waitress that we couldn't sit there. Apparently although the table wasn't showing reserved it was! All evening it felt like it was too much trouble to serve us. The food was alright although the mash potato was not real potato, it was smash!

To begin with I took my girlfriend out to the Fox and Hounds and I didn't speak with her for the first 23 minutes whilst she sat at the table we booked ( I stop-watched on my mobile phone) as I was too busy "Waiting" to be served at the bar. It was three rows deep at the time. This is a nice village pub with nice enough staff but when this place gets busy be prepared to do nothing but "wait". The UK has never really understood the "service industry" or offer the paying customer the attention they deserve. This place, like so many similar establishments expect the paying customer to do a whole lot of work like standing, waiting and hanging about to order food and drink because the staff are so" under staffed".. Visiting a Pub/Restaurant should be a relaxing pleasurable experience and on this occasion it was not worth all that waiting on the steaks we had which turned out to be under par and overpriced. We will come here again but not for the steaks.

This is the first time we have been back to the Fox & Hounds for about nine months to a year and we were most disappointed in the quality of the food served. We were overcharged for drinks and had to question the price at the bar. We were subsequently given a refund for the difference. We asked to sit in one of the booths in the main hall but were told these had been reserved and were offered a choice of two in the main thoroughfare. At no time during the evening did we see anybody sit at these vacant booths. We mentioned this to the waitress who dealt with us and her response was that they must not have turned up! She walked off with a smile! We feel that we cannot recommend this restaurant.

I have to say that the Sunday lunch (rib roast - 5 adults ) we all had was excellent. Even the food for the children was of good quality and we were all served together. We will certainly be returning for Sunday lunch but next time I will try and leave space for the great choice of puddings.

We all enjoyed what we had and the setting is lovely. The only let down is our drinks were very expensive, I had a pint of cider which was £4,25, I'm used to paying £1 less than that. However all in all it was a very pleaseant lunch and we will be visiting again.

I recently had a meal with my family and a meal with a friend at different times of the day, both very good (in fact the rib eye steak was one of the best I have ever eaten). Open all day( a huge bonus in Hampshire), with a new menu (including an excellent lunchtime menu and monthly specials), I felt the service and food have improved greatly from my visit a year ago. The bar staff are always welcoming, and the food on both these occasions was very good-excellent. We will definitely start coming back to eat here again.

Genuine 16th century smugglers Inn, sounds interesting. Arrived at 15-00 Sunday 28/06/15 having made a reservation and were shown to a table after it had been cleaned. This is a Chef & Brewer Pub and as most of them do, serves food as well, first thing I noticed was a large sign saying "Lets do lunch, from £4-95" sounds good I thought.Ordered our lunch which was priced in an OK range and when it arrived was nice and hot and very tasty, we both agreed on this. The Eaton Mess which we both had was pretty poor, one strawberry cut in half, meringue base obviously bought in and very chewy, have most definitely had a lot better. My biggest gripe was when the bill arrived and I looked at the price charged for the drinks we had, we both felt this is a rip off, how can a pt of cider shandy be worth £4-35 that's a half of Aspals and the same of draught lemonade, Smirnoff Red (large) £6-10 and the straw that broke the back was a small Tonic Water priced at £1-95.Sorry but I just find those drink prices to be way over the top for where we were, IN A PUB, not the Holiday Inn Crown Plazza.Future visitors make from that what you will ! P.S. The service was not great either.

The Fox and Hounds is geographically isolated in Bursledon, the pub is on the front building and the Lone Barn is at the back which was relocated / rebuilt and provides a very rustic experience. The buildings are generally clean and tidy although the loos could do with a tidy-up.The variety of drinks is good and has a range of real ales which changes, the food menu has the usual range of pub-chain selections. The prices and portion sizes are average and the quality of the food is good. The staff were friendly though there was still slight vibe of 'pub chain' which was slightly annoying due to the individuality of the building(s). Definitely worth-while going back either for a meal or just drinks.

We first visited this pub (in those days called The Lone Barn) 40 years ago when it was a very rustic barn with homemade wines for sale! Things have progressed in a way. It is now a typical restaurant/bar following a formula, so if that is what you are looking for, it works. Food is certainly acceptable (we had scampi and chips and fish finger sandwich which were fine, no complaints). However in a half empty pub the service was dismal. No smiles for us no matter how polite we were, staff almost sighed with the effort of doing anything for us and we will NOT be going back. The formula is that you choose your food, order at the bar and wait for service to arrive. Considering the customer does a lot of leg work and waiting around at the bar there is not that much for staff to do.Decor looked fairly new and was absolutely fine but floors around the bar were sticky.

I popped in for some lunch after being advised to by a colleague of mine and I must say I was more than impressed with the food and staff. Working in pub and restaurants all of my working life I can be very critical. I walked in and I was greeted warmly by who I assumed was the manager/land lord. Very nice gentleman with the knowledge of the bar and menu to suit. I decided to sit on the patio for a pint whilst looking over the menu. The menu had lots to choose from. From traditional "pub grub" to in house specialities. There maybe too much too choose from but that seems to be the norm with most places now. I decided to go for the scallops and pulled pork starter with a side of sweet potato fries and garlic ciabatta bread. The presentation spot on the service was spot on. The food speechless. Scallops cooked perfectly the pulled pork melted in your mouth. Sweet potato fries crispy but soft inside. Only thing to let it down was the cheese on the garlic bread could have been melted a little more. All in all though a great lunch time experience for my first visit. Will I return certainly. And next time I will bring my friends!

We visited this evening and were totally underwhelmed with our food. My husband had sea bass and scallops, I say scallops plural but what he got was one scallop split down. The bass was cooked beautifully but was a very sparse serving. I had steak and salad, what I got was very fatty steak and half a bag of bland coleslaw mix, carrots and cabbage, that's it. This is the most bland salad I have ever had in a restaurant, if they had made it up to be the coleslaw it was trying to be it would have been better. The saving grace was after pointing out how bland it was and half my steak left on the plate as it was unchewable it was taken off of the bill. The chef did brilliantly with the sparse/cheap ingredients he/she had. For the prices being charged the quality of ingredients needs to be vastly improved. Our meals tonight were cheap and nasty.

The pub and setting is beautiful, but it somehow lacked atmosphere. I ordered the gammon steak which was very nice, but my husband had the mixed grill which he realised did not have the onion rings stated on the menu. Then he struggled to cut the sausage with a steak knife as it was so overcooked, the black pudding was solid. Usually in a restaurant someone will come to check everything is ok, but no one came. We had paid for the food on ordering so when we left we thought we'd mention our disappointment to the staff at the bar, but there was no one at the bar, we waited for a moment, but there wasn't any staff member in sight. It was a shame as the property is full of character, but somehow the staff and food do not live up to the expectation. I thought I'd email the restaurant when we got home, but there's no email address on their website, so no staff and no website they do not make it easy to complain! Won't be rushing back there!

We arrived at 1.30 where a sign suggested to wait in the reception area until seated. As we were with a little baby and a buggy and nobody attended us for a good 3-5 minutes, we decided to make our way and find a table. We managed to find a table (there were about 5-7 tables that were reserved and empty..........although I don't know how when the car park was full already), but when we sit down we were asked to leave the table as it was reserved as well(but they haven't managed to put the sign there yet).Ok, so we decided to sit outside....the garden area was full with wasps.......We ordered food and some desserts. But this is where our experience went really sour. The dessert wasn't the best anyway and in the middle of the cheesecake there was a massive finger print! The teapot was truly disgusting, I don't know why it can't be cleaned properly once in a while and we even had lip stick mark on the side of the cups (which were dirty anyway). So overall it wasn't a nice experience at all, doesn't worth the money we paid that is for sure.

There was once a pub called The Fox and Hounds. It was a difficult location to get to. However, it was a popular country pub serving beer and decent simple pub food. At the rear of the pub (linked by a courtyard) lay a unique venue called the Lone Barn. This was a real destination pub (Stone floors, long trestle tables and benches, a blazing fire in a huge fireplace at one end of the barn which was decorated with old farming implements). The Barn served good drink and excellent hearty country fare. The two venues are now linked so you enter the same door to both. They are part of the Chef and Brewer chain so they now share the same menu. A refurbishment was completed a month ago and everything is immaculate, clean, smart and completely devoid of any charm or character. In short, the Lone Barn part of the venue has been refurbished to death! Even the lovely stone floors of the barn have been covered with carpet. The same menu is now shared by both sides of the venue and reads well. However the food we were served was awful and bore scant resemblance to the menu descriptions. My father ordered soup of the day at £3.79. It was mushroom, served luke warm and according to Dad, it was pretty tasteless. He said the crusty bread and butter was the best part (and even then the butter was fresh from the fridge and too cold to spread!) Dad then had Mediterranean Spiced Cod Loin at £10.99. This Cod loin was supposed to have been marinated in an aromatic Mediterranean spice blend, served on roasted new potatoes and roasted red onion and served with garden peas, rocket and a sweet tomato & herb dressing. The cod portion was very small (it didn't look like a piece of nice thick cod loin to me), it was dried up, overcooked and an unappetising beige/grey colour. The potatoes and onions were not roasted but boiled. there was too little of the dressing for my father to form an opinion, but after a couple of tastes of the fish he said it was very unpleasant, and as the rest of his meal was not as described and looked unattractive, he left it. I'm a vegetarian and I ordered the Creamy Lemon and Chilli pappardelle served with garlic ciabatta and finished with a cheese, tomato & basil crumb (at £5.99) This was not served in a bowl as you might expect, but in a rectangular dish like aeroplane food! The sauce was completely tasteless with no discernable evidence of lemon or chilli. The crumb was not sprinkled over the top but baked on like a crumble topping. It did not taste of cheese, tomato or basil at all! Actually it tasted faintly fishy. There was no evidence that my meal had ever been introduced to fresh tomato, basil, lemon or chilli! The garlic ciabatta was tepid and floppy rather than crispy / crunchy. It did smell very faintly of garlic but it had very little flavour. I too left most of my tasteless meal. On the plus side, our server was charming and excellent. She told the manager we were not happy and had left most of the food we'd ordered. The manager did not come to see us to hear our complaint (although the restaurant was scarcely one quarter full so he/she could not have been that busy), but we were not charged for the main meals. Would I go back - NO! The reason for going to the Lone Barn was always that it was so different from anywhere else. Now it's a cookie cutter gastro pub (I'm guessing it looks much the same as all the other Chef and Brewer pubs) The food was poor, much of which (if my pasta is anything to go by) does not appear to be prepared from scratch on the premises and is of a poor to mediocre quality.

After such a good visit last time we decided to drop in again, knowing the Fox and Hounds had been refurbished. We were booked in for an early supper, 18:00ish, so it was not busy at all.First impressions was "it was different". Carpet over the cobbles, so still an uneven surface, just now you expect it to be even. Most of the old farming tools had been removed, but it was.... "OK".Even though we had booked it was no longer table service. We had to order at the bar, which is fine, but not an improvement. There were 5 of us eating, 2 children and 3 adults. The whitebait starter was apparently "excellent" and "the best she had had" according to my mother-in-law, the mushroom was disappointing in content. It came on bun that was obviously to "pack out" the 3 or 4 mushrooms that were full of flavour and excellent. Initially I thought it was a large field mushroom underneath, but no..., bread. That spoilt it, as the amount of mushroom left was tiny.Mains1x Chicken Curry2x Gamon1x Steak1x Chicken Breast in bacon and cheeseThe curry was for my 10 year old daughter. While she enjoys a moderate heat it was too hot.She ended up leaving the majority of it (which allowed me to try it)I like hot, not inferno, but hot and by the time I had eaten enough the heat was at the top of my enjoyment level. WAY too hot for anyone else in my family, but no mention in the menu about the heat - not good. The popadom was moist in three areas making it soft and unpalatable and the naan was dry though out - almost crispy. My gammon, egg and chips was enjoyable,, apart from the chips being well under done, When I mentioned this to the family it turned out all the chips were well under. Generally at one end so I suspect over filling the fryer was to blame. There were clearly two batches of chips as two meals had much darker chips than the others but all had most chips with areas that were "chompy"While my egg was runny inside, my mother-in-laws was hard and dry - she left it.The chicken in bacon and cheese was adequate, apart from the chips, not what we had expected. The steak was cooked perfectly, "rare" as requested but contained no greens\veg what so ever and under done chips. Sadly, when ordering we were not asked what our preference would be for potatoes, this one should have been ordered with a jacket..We made our server aware, in a nice way, about the under done chips. She immediately became prickly, offered a "side of chips" and never spoke to us again, even asking another server to clear our table! So from a "pleasant surprise" to "poor and ruined". We were very disappointed and will not be returning until we hear things have changed (again).A classic case of "if it ain't broke - don't fix it"I hope your visit is much better!

We tried to book in advance by ringing the advertised number frequently but to no avail, no one answered so as a large group of 9 we took the risk and drove down. Luckily it was early and they had space but the restaurant was fully booked by the time we left at just gone 7pm on a Saturday evening. We hadn't been for a while having been regulars a few years back. When it became Chef & Brewer chain pub the menu went downhill to standard pub grub without the variety it once had both by regularly changing the standard menu and the fantastic specials board. However we gave it another go this time having read online they had a new menu and wasn't disappointed. The place has recently been refurbished and looks much better for it. Previously the restaurant had some dark corners where some tables were located but the whole place just seemed brighter and cleaner.Service was excellent, very attentive staff. Food was exactly as described, one main meal had to go back but was replaced very quickly with no quibbles.I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place again after a few years of not frequenting it. Based on our experience if you are dining in the evening try and book in advance (if they answer the phones that is).

My slow cooked pork was actually not to bad , but my sons burgers were woeful, the chicken one in particular was pretty tasteless, burger , handfull of chips, two undercooked frozen onion rings and that was it, no garnish, served on an over large plate which only made it look more measly. All our food was excellent in taste and was presented very well. The staff were very polite and helpful. 4 of us were late due to a major hold up on the motorway, our relatives kept the staff informed who in turn were appreciative and held our table.
