We'd phoned ahead to ask what time the kitchen shut as we were travelling through the area. Staff were exceptionally helpful and took time to make sure they understood what we needed. An exceptional meal in a warm and cost setting. Could not praise highly enough.

Recomended by a friend well worth the visit, wide choice, lots of fish and i have to say as a fisherman the fish was the best i have had bar none in 70 years, tasted fresh like it was straight out of the sea. The staff were very good and looked after us well. we even took some cake home, home made jams also on sale, a real good job.

Family bday dinner , food first class , service the best , lovely old pub with homemade dishes , we will be back. Nothing was to much trouble .

A wonderful Sunday lunch, a lovely choice of starters followed by the roast beef with all the trimmings. We couldn’t fault anything it was delicious. The staff were excellent. We will be definitely returning very soon

Stopped off for lunch on route heading North. Fabulous food, Cullen Skink soup, burger and ham hock. All homemade, delicious and beautifully presented. Also sold homemade chutneys, cakes etc Landlord chatty and very welcoming.

Called here after visiting Thorpe Perrow for the day. What a lovely country pub with a nice atmosphere. We walked in and was given a nice table near the bar and the staff were friendly and attentive. I ordered the bacon chop and my wife had the scampi. Both hot and tasty. If you are in the area this is a nice place to eat.

Friendly welcome on arrival for lunch. Seated at a lovely corner table in the bar area we were invited to choose from the standard menu and the specials board. Bacon chops, smoked haddock chowder, homemade chips, vegetables and bread rolls washed down with local ale. Very friendly Landlord and attentive staff, warm and tasteful decor and high quality local produce all contributed to an enjoyable and satisfying visit.

If only, if only the F&H were 100 miles north.......pipe dreams.So, it appears that bi-decadely (or is that every 20 years?) the family meet midway at the F&H for some internal celebration.This was Sunday lunch in a cold, rainy February.We, the deliberately early arrivees, were Immediately noticed and greeted by a busy proprietor who very then promptly supplied alcoholic sustenance (Timothy Taylor Landlord)........excellent.On arrival of the balance, as the bar is tiny we were ushered to our table where;a) drinks were offered andb) the littlies food orders were taken in advance, my nut/dairy allergic grandson needs utterly sorted. I feel that this organisation of youngsters is one of the hallmarks of a well run family restaurant. As soon as they sit down They Want Fed!Normal menu range but includes Steak and Kidney PIE, my favourite but fought it off to have the beef. Have just pulled some frozen S & K out to make up for it tonight.Good portions, nicely cooked with two! YPs. the vegetables need a special mention though. Monster mashed potato croquets were wonderful, crushed roots perfect but the tempura parsnips proved devine.So carried away I forgot the excellent starters and was seduced into their Lemon Curd Icecream,,,,,,mmmmmmmmmmmmm.The young staff are immaculately trained.The proprietor (Vince) is absorbed in VW CamperVans and providing fantastic value for money. As he said he knows that he serves good old traditional fare that his client love and want and has not strayed into the avant-garde. Having said that he is more than happy with the passing fads (vegan) and can cope with all allergies and ailments.Plenty of room for the children to disport themselves, particularly with what seemed to be £1000 pound model campervans.Went to bed at 20:30, just like a Christmas Day feast.Great Day and Good Value

Our lunch stop today on the way home and it was a good choice. A warm welcome, swift service, it was excellent pub food and good value for money. Went for dinner and found they had a full veggie selection which is unheard in these parts! My partner is a meat eater and his choice was fabulous. It was the little details as well like the finishing touches of decoration on the food, beautiful.Also home made ice cream and biscuits.The staff were mostly young and really attentive ,courteous and wanted to serve you.We will definitely go back again I wish the other pubs in Yorkshire would take a leaf out of this pubs books they could learn a lot !

First time visit, 8 of us for a post Christmas lunchtime get together. Food was lovely and tasty, and the service was friendly and efficient. We were asked if we wanted extra chips and potatoes. One of our party has a food allergy and advice was provided about her choices. Fruit teas available on request.

A chilly, dank Thursday November night. But inside the Fox and Hounds a warm crackling open fire. A good start, made even better thanks to a cheeky pint of Theakstone's IPA....Then a problem!! Three menus to choose from and all dishes ones I wanted to try. Exceptional 3 course TD menu at £18 for three courses, but I went for the trio of chicken, fish and duck. At £12.50 with superb chips, this was great value and wow, the quality, the presentation, the taste and the three sauces unbelievable good.The treacle tart was crying out to be eaten, complete with smooth custard... a cracking end to a fine meal.A couple of months ago I came for Sunday lunch and that was exceptional. Dinner was equally as good this time. Got to go back for a third time soon because the F&H is quite simply the best around and worth a 25 mile trip for our party up the A1. Many thanks to all the team.

Visited today for lunch after scaling Trip Advisor for somewhere different. Absolutely beautiful lunch with my mum and two teenage daughters. Vince (I'm sure that was his name) was extremely helpful with menus, and the lady behind the bar was lovely. The waitress was smiley, helpful and also... very lovely! Brilliant family day.. would definitely recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you.

Lunch on a busy Saturday but no trouble to the folk at the Fox & Hounds. Excellent service, very good food, little waiting. The vegetarian options on the menu where many and interesting to anyone who enjoys food, ie not just for vegetarians.

A very wide ranging menu of excellent, good and well presented meals.Gluten free, vegetarian and vegan tastes all catered for which allied to the level of service makes for a very pleasant relaxing meal. The location is very handy for Thorpe Perrow Arboretum which is magnificent at this time of year with its great range of trees and their leaves.

Wow this was special. And TripAdvisor does not lie.

Family of four Saturday lunch .....birthday celebration was superb. Service was precise and food utterly delicious..... faultless

This is an unpretentious traditional pub with a varied menu. I had the taster dish, the trio, with chips, that were the best chips I've had in a long while. The three tasters were fish, chicken and duck and were all delicious. My husband had the steak and kidney (yes, kidney which you rarely seem to get now) which he said was excellent. We finished with a lemon and lime meringue pie, very nice and I had coffee with cream (amazingly good) which came with little homemade biscuits. The staff were lovely, friendly and genuine. even the ladies had proper lttle towels not paper ones. I was a bit sceptical when I initially read the reviews but I can agree with them now. Very handy for a visit to Thorpe Perrow aboretum, where you can walk off some of the calories.

Always amazing food and a great atmosphere at the Fox and hounds. Haven’t been anywhere in the local area that beats the choice, value and quality. I would recommend anyone to visit and not be disappointed.

This is a brilliant pub.The landlord and his staff are the friendliest I have come across in a very long time - nothing is too much for them.The service is second to none.The food is of a very good standard(the baked egg custard for dessert was superb).The wine list is very good for a tucked away country pub but what impressed me most was that you could have any wine from the wine list by the glass-not many pubs or restaurants do that!In addition the wine list contained some of the lesser well known wines which is always a welcome change.

Had Sunday supper here last week

Been here many times with family and never been disappointed. This time was with work colleagues. Had a fabulous meal. Service was great as usual. Lots of different food was ordered and enjoyed by everyone. Beautifully presented as always. Thank you for another wonderful meal. We will definitely be back.

Visited here one evening whilst staying nearby in Bedale. I have to say we weren’t disappointed. This is probably the best meal I’ve had in a considerable time. My husband had the crab salad and I had the rack of lamb followed by honeycombe, ice cream with meringue. All beautifully cooked and presented and tasted divine. Service was fabulous even though this place was full to the brim on a midweek, bleak evening, which spoke volumes as everywhere else was deserted. So wish this was my local. Can’t wait to engineer a return visit. If you’re in the area make sure you visit, you won’t better it anywhere

Vince and his staff always provide a warm welcome and look after their customers whether old or new with great enthusiasm. Food is of a high standard and generous proportions. We particularly like the crad salad and and of the fish as in season. Local produce features strongly. wine list is interesting and always changing as is the guest beer.

Had an excellent meal here this evening, with first class service and ambience. The rack of lamb was delicious, so tender, with perfectly cooked vegetables. The meringue with honeycombe and icecream was a delight and the three cheese platter was more than generous, full flavoured and so professionally presented. Highly recommended and will certainly be returning. Compliments to all staff.

My wife and I visited one Sunday evening, we were staying in North Stainley and the B and B recommended here.

My family and I travelled down from Durham for Sunday Lunch at this great little pub 12/05/2019 from the moment we arrived till the moment we left the staff where second to none the food was fantastic we all had different the battered curried parsnips were to die and the rest of the vegatable choice was very varied for we go out a lot for Sunday Lunch and this was one of if not the best we have had so it goes without saying we will be back

We had an excellent Sunday Lunch at this welcoming pub. There was plenty of well cooked food with a lovely variety of vegetables.

Firstly, staff are first class, absolutely nothing is any bother. They made us feel so welcome! Food is very traditional, as is the pub itself, with large portions of wholesome, tasty food. Can't fault!

Always stop off at the Fox and Hounds for lunch or evening meal when visiting this part of the country and further. Have eaten here many times and the food is always excellent. Lot's of choice and the staff are always happy to customise your meal to suit. All home cooked and very good quality.

My wife and myself visited the Fox and Hounds last Sunday on our way from Ripon to Richmond for Sunday lunch. Having tried to book in the restaurant the day before, we were told that it was fully booked but if we arrived early there would be room in the bar to eat. We arrived at 12.15pm and were shown to the last two vacant seats. The bar was then packed with people enjoying what we found to be a lovely, tasty lunch with fresh vegetables and good portions of well cooked tender meat. If we visit again we would make sure to reserve seats in the restaurant as it did not appear to be quite so cramped. A very pleasant and memorable experience.

What a lovely visit to this restaurant from start to finish! My partner and I were glamping nearby and turned up half hour before opening, they saw us sat outside and opened up early for us with a huge warm welcome! Excellent service and delicious food, I had goats cheese to start followed by veg filo parcels. My partner had trio of starters and steak pie, would recommend these dishes! As we finished our meal we were offered a lift back to our camping area as it was dark out, what a lovely thing to do. We decided to walk as we needed to walk off the food! We were so full!

Lovely old-fashioned and proper pub! Large group (I suspect a wake) in the other side of the pub, but we were still made very welcome. Superb sandwiches and I had some sort of mixed starter thing, which was fab! Staff very friendly and could not have been more helpful.

We were spending a long weekend in the Yorkshire Dales and were recommended this eatery by our B&B; hosts. We were not disappointed from the smiling friendly welcome to the payment of the very reasonably bill, all our expectations were met or exceeded. Beautiful.

Friendly hosts and staff who went the extra mile to make our visit special. The meal was excellent, great menu and superb selection of vegetables. Only criticism was the dining room was rather chilly, but it was a very cold day.

I went with a friend as a walk in on a Tuesday lunchtime. They could just fit us in. That says something about how good the food is. Service took a while, but that was far outdone by the food received. Great Value - Will definitely go again, will book next time though.

Visited the Fox & Hound on Saturday night whilst glamping closeby. From the moment we arrived we where treated as locals and we had a truly amazing time. Whilst looking at the menus we sampled local ales and chatted to the landlord who was extremely friendly and relaxed and full of knowledge about the drinks he was serving and the food menu.

Yes, that’s backwater. This place is a little out of the way. We booked for Sunday lunch to meet as a halfway point with distant (in distance) relatives. The food presentation was an odd mix of old fashioned and modern. However, the food was good, as was the beer and we were made most welcome. It was also packed out. Good value and we left feeling happy.

Busy lunchtime - glad I booked. Stylish, country pub/restaurant. 3 folks, 3 different starters and mains - all excellent quality/quantity. All presented in timely fashion by friendly, efficient staff. Only thing left to say is that we will certainly be back.
