What an amazing restaurant 😋 My husband took me as a surprise, it was delightful from start to finish. Lovely atmosphere, a warm welcome and the food was delicious. I had the mussels to start, monkfish and king prawns for main and finished off with delicious raspberry creme brulee. Honestly one the finest meals we've had in a long time. We will be back and definitely will recommend to our friends.

A super little family run fish restaurant. Very accommodating to my dietary requirements. Very impressed. The menu did include steak or duck if you’re not a fish or seafood lover.

Our 1st visit, a lovely small intimate restaurant with very friendly owners/staff, absolutely wonderful sea food, will definitely be back.

This was an amazing dining experience from start to finish. We dined here for my birthday. Best choice we could have made. Wonderful staff, couldn't do enough for us. The food is delicious, best seafood we have ever had. If we could give it 6 stars we would. We can't wait to return in the future.

Hi it’s been 25 years since we were last at Joplin’s it hadnt changed one bit food excellent cudnt fault service , my husband is celiac and we phoned to tell them they were so nice about it and catered for him I would tell my friends to book it

We've been trying to get a table here on and off for over 2 years and it's obviously v v popular as we haven't managed to book until a miracle occurred yesterday when we rang again on the off chance. Boy was the wait worth it - absolutely impeccable friendly service from the off - very professional and the little touches like jug of water for the table/ linen napkins /fresh bread and butter made it even better. Everything was scrumptious- seafood pancake/ fresh Whitby dressed crab / Lemon sole with capers and lemon butter / line caught wild halibut with prawns n mushrooms and sunken chocolate pudding with Swiss vanilla ice cream to share 😋 all made fresh to order. Thank you to the small, efficient, friendly team who made the experience lovely and we liked the ambience they achieve-we thoroughly recommend this little gem.No wonder its so hard to get a table - we may have to wait another 2 years to get back in !

This small beautiful seafood (primarily) restaurant is always the local choice for a special occasion. Great seafood pancake for starter, as usual, although to be fair (and no offence intended in these difficult times), there seemed to be more sauce and less seafood! My thick cod loin with a smoked salmon topping was outstanding - so much that my wife complained that I hadn't eaten enough vegetables. Great friendly owners as always and a very nice wine. Always enjoy eating here, and highly recommended. p.s. you need to book to get a table.

Went for the first time over the weekend. The owners were very friendly and knowledgeable. The food was brilliant as was the service. We are looking forward to returning in the future.

Spectacular find. This place has been going many years, and succeeding for a reason. The passion and talent of the team running it is clear. Food was delightful, cost was reasonable, service tremendously welcoming (could have upsold me on the wine, but didn't, and the choice was superb). It's high quality sea food done well. I'd bet the meat options were quality to, but no way was I passing up the fish to try it. Especially with the quality of the white wine on offer for a very reasonable price. Clean, this applies to the facilities as well, but accessibility might be an issue for the facilities which are at the back of the establishment and up a hefty step with a bit of a squeeze past a large main table. Nice traditional vibe in the restaurant. Lovely atmosphere of diners enjoying themselves. Not a huge amount of tables, so quite intimate, but you're not on top of each other. Small bar area to wait if you're early, or enjoy one more drink (though we never felt rushed).

Excellent all round. Lovely couple running this - and very very good food. We’d been meaning to come for a while since we moved to Great Ayton last December, but had to cancel an earlier visit due to the dreaded COVID. It was worth the wait - even on an early June Wednesday the restaurant was busy, which says it all really. Food and wine top notch - excellent produce (I had a huge dressed crab followed by halibut, the chorizo and scallop starter was amazing too). Great deserts and well selected wine. Brilliant

Service was brilliant from the moment we booked a table until the moment we left. I had the dressed crab which was excellent, plenty of crab provided. My partner really enjoyed his King scallop starter, got plenty on the plate. For main we both had the Halibut with brown shrimps. Really good portion, plenty of veg and very well cooked. Just melted in your mouth. All staff were very friendly. 10/10 would recommend!

Been trying to get to Joplin’s for ages and finally managed it tonight so glad we did! Excellent evening, beautiful food, lovely atmosphere and great service.

Great food , great service, high dining Not cheap but you get what you pay for

Service was very efficient and polite without being overbearing or intrusive. The food was top-notch. Fish is a real hassle to do well and they made it truly delicious. Definitely only a place for special treats (unless they do an early bird deal - hint, hint!) because neither does it pretend to be, nor is it, cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for. All in all a first rate evening.

I go here all the time and popped in to say hi as myself and my husband have been away working for months. I was absolutely wounded to the non welcome waiting we where going to just get a bottle of wine and say hi but got a rude “ its not a bar “comment. After coming for 10 years nearly every month to not be remembered was very upsetting.

My wife and I visited Joplins for a weekday evening dinner. We were very well looked after by Martin and Gill. The quality of the food and the service were excellent. The sea bass in Pernod is an old favourite and was as good as ever.

Really good largely seafood based menu and meal was clearly great produce cooked simply and well. Really friendly service by the owners, going to become a regular treat!

Most amazing seafood we have had in a long time, clean, fresh and well presented. Friendly staff and a wonderful atmosphere.

Went for our Anniversary had a lovely welcome on arrival and staff were great starters I had a seafood pancake which was lovely and the main was monkfish and kingprawns with vegetables which were cooked to perfection highly recommended

The ambiance was superb. The food was superb. The service was just right. Friendly and helpful with food arriving in good time after being order but with absolutely no rush. On an evening when the conversation flowed, the service was unobtrusive and absolutely perfect.

Beautiful food, presented well, friendly staff in an intimate, but not crowded small restaurant. Menu majors on fish dishes and although not cheap, good value for the quality of food presented. Recommended.

It’s been a few years since I was last here but the food is as good as always and the staff are friendly and accommodating. They specialise in fish but there is usually at least one meat option if a member of your party isn’t keen on seafood.

Joplin’s is not at the centre of some great metropolis, but it most definitely is at the core of what dining out is all about. A small intimate environment where you are not made to feel like a number, a sensibly sized menu that ensures nothing ever gets close to a microwave and above all, really really well cooked food prepared by hosts who clearly have a passion for their business.My wife and I were first time visitors to the restaurant, which sadly is just a tad too far to visit from home for a night out, but it is definitely a “must return” when in the area. You will regret not trying it if you do get the chance

We went for a meal during the eat out to help out scheme and were blown away by the food ! Friendly, good service. They properly distanced the tables and gave each table sanitizer and disposable menus ! Will definitely go again and recommend 😊

Where to start?? So many places around Teesside to eat...... (But only a few I'd recommend) Well this is one of them, Joplins in Great Ayton is a no brainer and I'm over the moon to say this has maintained its high standards over the last 30 plus years on every level, the service being second to none, the individual dishes are to die for and the ambiance remains the same. Simply brilliant.

Gorgeous food in lovely surroundings, I would definitely recommend spending an evening here.

Lovely evening with friends who are regulars at this place, this was our first visit and we were really impressed, excellent restaurant all round and friendly staff with excellent customer service we will be returning.

Celebrated my husband’s birthday here. It is a restaurant we enjoy going to for special occasions. As always we received a lovely welcome. The food and wine were good - the seafood towers for starters and halibut main course were delicious. We love the atmosphere of this small cosy restaurant and are made to feel special by Gill and Martin, the owners.

I had been wanting to visit this restaurant for many years, but had never got around to it what a shame! Because it is second to none.I had the seafood pancake which was just delicious, my partner had the seafood tower, equally as good.To follow I had the monkfish in malibu which was excellent. Four of us visited Joplins on November 29 to celebrate our son's birthday. We hadn't been there for some time and wondered if it would be as good as it used to be but we needn't have worried as it was excellent. The food was superb, the restaurant itself has a great feel to it and the staff are friendly and attentive. Altogether a very enjoyable evening.

We visited Joplins for the first time last night. I had the crab starter and halibut main course followed by a lemon tart and my partner had the seafood tower, fillet steak and sunken chocolate cake. All of our courses were beautifully cooked and we thoroughly enjoyed our choices, in addition to great food and a nice bottle of wine we received a great service from all of the staff. We’re already looking forward to returning!

I took my partner here for his birthday. We had passed the place many times but never seemed to get around to visiting. We certainly weren't disappointed. We were met with a warm greeting on arrival into a lovely little bar area, the restaurant is small but perfect and we thoroughly enjoyed our seafood starters, followed by a perfectly cooked fillet steak. Highly recommended for that special occasion

Visited for my brothers birthday with friends

Choice of various seafood made it a difficult decision which to order but once we had the wait was very much worth while. Service, food presentation and quality were excellent. Will have to visit again.

We live in the area and have been meaning to come here for a while, and had saved it for a special occasion. This was a real treat. On arrival we were greeted and had some drinks in the bar area, before moving to our table. The food was divine. I had the seafood pancake, followed by king prawns and monkfish in a Malibu sauce. Absolutely delicious. Joplin’s seafood is a real cut above the rest. The staff were warm and welcoming. The restaurant had a lovely ambience. We will definitely be back.

This place was just a cut above the other places we visited on our walking holiday in North Yorkshire. My wife did some research and Joplins came out really well in TA and you had it right. From greeting to ordering to serving to the food it was delightful. I had the scallops and they were the best I have ever eaten; my wife had the salmon mousse and beetroot, again excellent. For main we both had the turbot special which was perfectly cooked and incredibly tasty. To finish one had the chorale cake and one the lemon tart, so good. If you get chance to try here you must, we have booked again for tomorrow!

It’s a long time since my husband and I were in Joplin’s and as it was our wedding anniversary my husband booked a table.

We haven't been for a couple of years so decided to go for our anniversary. It hasn't changed, the same warm welcome, the same friendly service and the same excellent food. The scallops were delicious as was the cod, everyone really enjoyed the food. Probably one of the best restaurants in the area.

We've been several times for evening meals and never been disappointed. The menu is predominatly sea-food, it's fresh, well cooked and elegantly presented. We look forward to returning.

First ever visit, the company was great, the food excellent. I had scallops, chorizo and black pud, followed by duck on carrot and parsnip mash. Lovely cosy dining area, with service as good.

Visited 16 February. Lovely intimate atmosphere greeted by charming and friendly owners . My wife had Sea Bass and myself the steak . Beautiful food we were just too full for dessert! Would also recommend Black pudding starter! Many thanks again

What a wonderful place Joplin’s is for every occasion,it’s the perfect nights dining. We use this place regular and it feels special every time you go. I didn’t like fish at all until I went here, now I’m eating a diffrent fish dish each visit. House Red is fantastic - that good I bought a case for our home.

We’ve eaten here many times over the years. The food is consistently excellent, particularly the fish, the house wines are very good, and there’s always a very friendly welcome from owners Martin & Jill.

Went here last week. First time for many years. Had a great meal. Mainly fish but there was steak and duck. Service was excellent, staff were friendly. Top end prices for the area but well worth it. Will be back soon.

We lived near Ayton until 10 years ago but had never eaten in Joplin’s which is a real shame as we have missed a gem. Went with family for dinner. Superb attentive service with the whole menu described in detail by the owner. Mainly fish / seafood but also meat and veg alternatives. Not cheap but really top quality cooking and attention to detail. Highlight was the halibut which is not a fish I would normally choose. Good wine choice and again nothing cheap.

Had a great meal here with friends to celebrate my husbands birthday. I'm pleased to say that even though we haven't been here for a few years the food was as good as we remember. If you like fresh, well cooked seafood this is the place for you. There were 6 of us who between us had a variety of crab, halibut and lemon sole dishes - all lovely. Oh and the desserts were good too - Raspberry creme brûlée and warm sunken chocolate cake. Won't leave it so long to return again.

Came recently with colleagues and I am so glad i found this place. The seafood restaurant has locally sourced ingredients with fresh seafood choices. House wine was great too. A lot of choices for starter and portion was big. For main course I find less options on that particular day- but the menu changes. Good dessert choice as well and the chocolate cake was one of the best I have had.

Absolutely love this restaurant. From the moment we walked in it was warm & friendly. The owners explained the menu with such enthusiasm, you could tell they were passionate about their trade! It might only be small ( I think I counted 10 tables, although I cant be sure) but the food speaks for itself. Would we recommend it - absolutely. Would we go again - most definitely. Thank you for a wonderful meal & evening.

After a long day we telephoned on the off chance that there was a free table and lucky for us there had been a cancellation. A colleague had recommended Joplins to us and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is quaint & the decor delightful and from the minute you walk in there is a warm and friendly atmosphere. The owners explained the menu and you immediately knew that their trade was their passion! The food was superb, fish cooked & seasoned perfectly, which is very rare to find. We opted for the house wine which was recommended, and it was very acceptable. Having just relocated to the area we are delighted to find such a little gem and it will definately be on our list of "lets go again" restaurants.

We booked Joplins for my partner’s birthday. This was my first time at the restaurant and I had high expectations; I was by no means disappointed. Lovely relaxed atmosphere and even thought the restaurant is small, it somehow still gives you a high degree of privacy at your table. The staff were very friendly and the seafood was simply superb. The Norwegian Skrei Cod Topped with Roasted Salmon tastes amazing.

What can you say about Joplins, excellent food, excellent service but above all, Martin and Jill make you so welcome, if you like fish, this is the place to go, love it!!!

This is the 4th time my family and I have visited Joplins and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is small and intimate and the food is heavenly. The owner talks you through the specials and wines and the staff are super attentive.
