Called in after walking from Wallsend and was tempted by the sausage casserole being advertised on the bar for £9.95. Well worth it as it was huge and came with either chips or mash plus peas and extra gravy. Service was prompt and courteous. It was an excellent meal.

Visited today for Sunday dinner after a lovely stroll along the Tyne. Was promptly seated upon arrival by a helpful and attentive member of staff who took our orders for food and drinks. When the food arrived we immediately knew we were in for a treat. I plumped for the belly pork and my boyfriend chose the beef. Both dishes arrived with roast and mashed potatoes, stuffing balls and a Yorkshire pudding. A separate dish of mixed vegetables and a jug of pan gravy arrived which was divine. We also ordered a separate dish of cauliflower cheese and when we asked for extra gravy it arrived within seconds. We eat out regularly for Sunday dinner and can honestly say this is up there with the best. Highly recommend and can’t wait to return.

Having walked along the beautiful Newburn Riverside Park, we called into the Fox & Hounds for a meal. The food arrived promptly, and was excellent - a chicken and leek pie with home-made chips, and liver and bacon with mash. Everything was perfectly cooked, except the chips, which were a little overdone or had been left on a hot plate for too long, otherwise this would’ve been a five star review! There’s an extensive menu of good pub grub, with several daily specials. Recommended, especially after a long walk!

We decided to have lunch at this restaurant as we had not been here before. We frequent cafe, pubs and restaurants in and around this area. The menu looked good but only listed mains as options apparently they have a sandwich menu at the bar but was never given to us when we asked for menus. I ordered Mince and dumplings with mash and vegetables. The mince and dumpling was very salty and I tried to eat it but could not, I had half of the dumpling half of the mince quarter of the mash. The girl behind the bar was very nice she asked how our food was and I explained about the salt. The chef was informed as was the owner/manager who was sitting at a table close by. The girl came back with an apology from the chef. When she removed our plates it was clear how much was left so when my partner went to pay I assumed they would have discounted the bill as good gesture. They did not take any off and we paid for 2 lunch meals over £19.00. I thought this was outranges when mine was hardly touched. My partner liked his and did tell them. We did not say anything more about the meal as I felt the ball was in their court. We will not return for any meal in the future as there are many restaurants in the area that are better and more price competitive, we may have considered if something had been done to acknowledge our complaint.

We both had fish and chips complete with mushy peas for me and garden peas for my partner accompanied by a portion of onion rings. The meal was delicious with the batter on the fish fantastically crispy and full of flavour. With my partner being pregnant and craving some proper chips I was pleased when she announced that they had hit the spot. We went into this pub for a drink but were really disgusted at the treatment received. A member of our party was a minority ethnicity and when we entered the pub the landlord looked very uncomfortable upon seeing them. He then whispered something to the young lady on the bar who proceeded to serve us herself. We sat down with our drinks but continued to receive hostile glances from the gentleman behind the bar. Eventually he seemed to become so uncomfortable with the idea of a non-white person in the pub and went upstairs. We swiftly finished our drinks and left as I would not give any more custom to an establishment that makes anyone from a minority or marginalised group feel unwelcome.

The place has very recently been refurbished with new carpets and been repainted giving it a much lighter and fresher look. I ordered the famous Fox full English breakfast with a cup of regular coffee.Waiting with anticipation, I was disappointed to see a plate full of baked beans with a very small rasher of bacon, a single sausage( which was the best bit) a small spoonful of overcooked mushrooms and a slice of black pudding. How can any one go wrong with an English breakfast?. Coffee was served black with no milk and none available.. price of £6.70 was about right for the quality..

After waiting 35 mins and there were only two other couples waiting for food, the burger was in a breadbun with soggy lettuce and one piece of tomato and chips, no other embellishment. It was an inch thick and approx two inches across with absolutely no taste whatsoever. The fish was hard in places, totally inedible. Chips were bit greasy but ok. Definitely won't be back.

Popped in during a cycle at the start of a lunchtime. Needed a coffee fix. I had missed the breakfast slot but the owner assured me they could find something. They did - probably the best bacon sandwich in Northumberland. I kid you not. Lots of bacon, perfectly cooked, beautiful fresh bread and a cup of proper coffee. and all for less than a fiver. having a look around it was clear that locals were in, mixing with travellers, dogs were in behaving themselves better than a lot of children I have seen in pubs and a quick check with two other cyclists proved the beer was very, very well kept. I'll pop back, but I shall come in a car next time and hopefully have someone to drive me home. Wonderful place, nipping clean and very inviting 11/10 - brilliant value too

Visited for Sunday lunch with the family. The service is great, very welcoming and attentive. There is a limited menu on a Sunday which was no problem for us but may be for others. The bruschetta was nice although the toasted bread could do with being served warm. The portion size was good as was the potion size for the soup. The roast dinner was ok, nice enough but ive definitely had better. The beef in my opinion was too thinly sliced I prefer chunky pieces so it tastes fresh and juicy and the gravy was too bland. The veg was good and there was plenty of it. The apple crumble was definitely the saving grace, it was delicious as was the custard so I'd definitely recommend giving that a go! All in all a nice enough Sunday lunch at a good price, yes Id visit again!

We need not have worried as the Fox and Hounds which is a short stroll down the road has been under new management since January and now opens for breakfast from 8am every morning. It is a very traditional village pub in its decor but roomy with beautifully laid out tables is immaculately clean and the new hosts offer a warm friendly welcome . The first day we had a pancake stack with crispy bacon and maple syrup and a Fox traditional breakfast. The portions were very generous and really delicious , offering great value for money. Free refills with the tea. The second day we had double sausage and egg muffins totally yummy! Nothing was too much trouble for the hosts and on both days we had a great relaxing start to the day. Highly recommended !

Called in for a bite to eat, hadn't been before. Lovely old fashioned pub, comfortable but no airs or graces. We ordered burgers from the friendly barman and they were delicious, so were the chips. The prices were extremely reasonable and the place was spotless. Would definitely go again and would not hesitate to recommend!

We had breakfast on every morning for 4 days and it was different on each one. The first morning was fine but then it went downhill and it's such a shame as we were given a warm welcome when we first arrived as our B& B that we had booked had closed down and they couldn't have been more helpful advising us where to stay

At the end of a walk from Newburn along the river to Wylam tried a couple of pubs before landing on The Fox & Hounds. Very friendly welcome from the hosts, clean, tidy and well presented. Lovely atmosphere with a few locals and a really nice couple of pints. Will definitely be back and definitely the best one in Wylam!

Visited with mum in law yesterday for a quick meal. Absolutely delicious home cooked food, plenty of it and home made fries and huge sandwich for mum and good piece of rump lamb, tasty mint gravy with reasonable prices and helpful, friendly staff. Just what a local village pub should be:) well done and remember our cafe Teasy Does It for home baked brownies and custom decorated cakes for all occasions - thanks again

As there is no photos of the restaurant and reading the previous glowing reviews I had to check it is the right place I am reviewing... It is , I googled it I visited here in November with a friend and we stopped off for a meal A bad sign as we waited were the 3 complaints from the other customers dining there to which the waitress replied " I'll tell the chef" As we had already ordered (sirloin steak) we decided to take the risk I wish we had nt The steak was chewy the onion rings under cooked and the mushrooms swimming in grease When the waitress came over she simply asked if we had finished even though she could see we had hardly eaten anything She obviously did not want to deal with any more complaints We did nt feel welcome at all in fact I felt like the staff would rather be elsewhere and the few locals that were in the bar area looked at us as if we were aliens I would not recommend this place to anyone and will certainly not be back

This lovely little pub has recently been refurbished and now has new management and a new chef. The staff were friendly and helpful. The food was lovely, hot, fresh and the homemade real chips really are very good !!! Vegetarian choices available as well as daily specials in addition to the main menu. Children eat for £1.50 if adult meal purchased during the week. Lovely park and river opposite the pub so well worth a visit. I have visited twice in the last week and will definitely return.

Stopped off for breakfast and found automation had caught up with Morrisons, in the form of an automated ordering system. Finding our way around the screen wasn't quite as easy as big Mac and KFC equivalents but we did manage it, only just. Wanting to pay by cash, however, was even more difficult as the robot doesn't accept anything except credit cards so customer, much against the chagrin, had to use plastic. The breakfasts, when they arrived, was excellent and without doubt value for plastic.

Called in at lunchtime for a couple of drinks. This is the second time but no more. A man, the same on both occasions standing at bar had the foulest loud mouth He was actually talking to the barman and two others Every other word began with "f' He had a dog with him This time he pulled seat out at one of the tables for his dog to sit at Absolutely disgusting. My husband mentioned to barman who grinned and apologised Not good enough

Nice little hotel bar right on the Main Street of Alnwick I had drink several times during our stay in Alnwick. Margaret had the chilli which she said was nice. I wasn’t hungry so had the potato skins which came with a barbecue sauce and garlic mayo, which were ok but out of a bottle.

Asked for two teas with extra teabag and was informed the charge would be £2.60 extra. Discussed with my husband and decided to have coffee instead. Went back to the ordering area but had to wait while the two members of staff were discussing overtime hours with another member of staff. After going back to the table my husband who had an ‘americano’ needed more cold milk. Once again went to ask for some but must wait while one assistant was showing the other how to fill a serviette dispenser. Poor service and TEABAGS AT £2.60 EACH - Shame on you MARKS AND SPENCER.
