Excellent beer, attentive service but the food is average. The accompanying salad on the starter was fresh and colourful but the beer battered fish main was quite dissapointing. It said buttered peas on the menu...maybe chef had run out of butter that day?

Great for a good pub lunch. We live locally and always try to get there when home from our travels. My husband usually has one of their tasty baguettes, sausage and red onion chutney has always been a favourite of his. The portions are substantial, husband manages it but I usually go for the smaller plate! Even though we are meat eaters I know they serve vegetarian options. We don’t have a dog ourselves but many who go there do, and they are very welcomed there. We feel very comfortable with the visiting dogs as they have, from our experience, always been very well behaved and obviously feel content to be there.

We had a group of 22 who were not impressed by the poor organisation for disable members getting into the conference hall. There was only one lady serving in the pub and waiting at table. We all felt sorry for the way she was treated and the amount of work she had to do. The food was excellent but the whole experience spoiled by poor organisation. My final comment is that if you are in a small party everything should be fine.

Visited today for the first time. A lovely old pub, welcoming staff, good food at very reasonable prices. Yes, we like this pub and will be returning.

Outstanding!! Been to this lovely pub a few times, always wanted to leave a review!! The young lady serving us couldn’t be more helpful, the food was excellent and at a reasonably price. The food was a generous portion… and very tasty, I even finished my partners meal - it was so nice. Dog friendly, treats on offer at the bar and a good selection of treats you can buy. I could see that lots of locals attending with their dogs!! Pub had a great and relaxed atmosphere! Seating at the front of pub and rear garden, all spacious and very well laid out! Even have another room at the back if you want privacy. By far the most accommodating pub for dogs in Devizes, worth walking your dog in the surrounding area (like Drew’s pond) with this pub as a stop off. Had the Burger and Tagine, with two drinks!! Very tasty!! Plenty of parking! A must visit if in town!! Will be a returning customer! Thank you!

Giving 1 star because I can't give any less. Gave me an allergen. Manager didn't even come to apologise. Staff uneducated about food. Including the chef!

Excellent food, we had a variety of Sunday lunches, all of exceptional quality and the service was really good and friendly. Would and have recommend it to friends and family.

The best place ever to have Sunday lunch with your dog. Not just doggy friendly but doggy devoted. And the food is good too. Cool on a hot day and warm on a cold day Still great

I had always wanted to stop here as it looks so lovely! Inside is really nice and it was quite busy. Service was very slow. But the food was not worth waiting for! All bought in, the most aweful fish cakes imaginable ! Just potato in a thick crumb . So disappointing

What can I say, what a lovely, friendly and welcoming place to go! The food was exceptional and plentiful, the warmth of the kind team was immediate when we walked in. You can even take your pooches and have a little roast dinner put up for them too! If you’re looking for a homemade, fresh, hearty roast, this is the place to go on a Sunday - we can’t wait to go back in the week and try out the regular menu!

I was told it was a friendly welcoming pub .. I don’t agree from my own observations.. service upon arrival was extremely poor.. waited over an hour for food .. other guests had been waiting longer .. the place was filthy.. windows we’re covered in cobwebs and very dirty .. toilets were absolutely disgusting 🤮.. very dull inside the public house with a damp smelling odour .. no ambiance whatsoever.. customer service was null and void .. would I return .. 🤔🤔

Got the steak, mushroom risotto and sticky toffee puddings with custard for dessert. Lovely food. Staff were great. Never been before but the atmosphere was super friendly.

Very friendly pub, with great food and good value for money. Staff are all really friendly. Nice big outdoor seating area at the back away from the road. Bonus for us is also very dog friendly, all round a treasure of a pub. Been back several times since this review, it's been consistently fab every time.

Trying to find a half way point which was dog friendly resulting in finding this place on google. We weren’t disappointed. Wonderful home cooked food at a good price. The mains were delicious and substantial, and so knew the puds must be of the same quality. Any one of us could have gone for the clean plate award for our mains and puds. The lady serving us was also very lovely and patient, and served with a smile. Definite recommendation.

The food was unexpectedly good, lots of great home-made dishes on the menu at standard pub, grub prices. All around great.

Wonderful places for family get together and the best bit is you can bring your dog's with you and they have a doggy meal as well, what more could you ask for. Oh the staff were simply fantastic went out of their way to help myself as I've got a special diet requirement. Definitely recommend 100% Xxx

From the moment we walked in the staff were very friendly and welcoming. 3 of us ordered the vegetarian wellington and was advised it would take 45 mins . The starters were spot on ,we had garlic bread with cheese and the mushroom which were delicious. In regards to the mains I would rather wait for it to be cooked to order than food that is just reheated . I must say it was worth the wait ! Well the deserts ! We had a mixture of creme brulé , sticky toffee pudding and the cheesecake, generous portions and very tasty. Overall we will be back not only for the food but to give their lovely dogs a cuddle!

Steak was overcooked. No offer of a steak knife or condiments. Bill brought to the table immediately after we declined a dessert. By this time (about 20:55), Card machine brought to the table without asking whether we would like another drink, even though the advertised closing time was 22:00.

We haven't been to the Fox and Hounds since the 90's, even though we live in Devizes. We came for my birthday dinner after looking at the menu online and realising that this pub offered good value for money, something that seems to be getting more difficult these days. How right we were to come here. An excellent menu, not too long and obviously freshly cooked, so you don't worry about freshness or the dreaded pinging microwave. I must complement Lily our waitress who is a lovely person and her personality shone out. Lily was genuinely pleased to attend us, even though we requested a change in the accompanied vegetables. We both chose the Fox steak, which was a flat iron steak, extremely well cooked, one medium, one medium rare. The chips were crunchy, hot and plentiful. It was the best steak I have had for years. We were too full for puddings but they looked very appealing. Altogether a very enjoyable visit. The menu prices were very competitive, which attracted us in the first place, so we were more than pleased that the food turned out to be of a very high standard. This review would have been five stars, but please, please, sort out the garden at the front of the pub and clean up that chap standing in the corner by the fireplace. First impressions most certainly do count, but the outside was quite scruffy with weeds and an unattractive setting. Having said that, the good food, service and genuine smiles will see us back again soon. Thank you.

Super friendly staff, quick service, excellent food! We called just before they stopped serving food for the night but they waited until we arrived, gave us a very friendly welcome, a large menu and piping hot food cooked to perfection. All at very reasonable prices. Couldn’t ask for more - highly recommended!

More of a restaurant than a pub. Well laid out tables. There is a small snug to the left of the main bar for people who just want a drink. A good selection of beer and wine, but one observation, you can't buy a large glass of wine just small and medium. The medium costs the same as a large glass elsewhere.

Good and reasonably priced food friendly service

Lovely pub, the staff were helpful and attentive and the food was great, but mainly our dog Mimi was treated like a princess and she has demanded to be kept in the same manner at home, otherwise the Fox and Hounds will be her new place of residence!

A real gem of a pub, so good in fact I often return for weekend lunches and a drink (even though its 70 miles away) , also incredibly dog friendly which is the other reason I like ti so much, the staff will all make a point of welcoming you and your canine companions, Food was well prepared and cooked to order so if you are expecting the turbo service of a "ill nuke it for you now" type pub you might be disappointed, if your looking for decent home cooked food however its worth the wait

Four of us, all senior citizens plus dog dropped in for a pint and a bite. Food was delicious and even doggy enjoyed his bite from the puppy menu of course.

From the telephone booking I could tell the pub knew how to deliver good service. On arrival the waiting staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. The menu offered a good selection and good value which made a change to other venues we’ve visited recently. The Sunday roast was plentiful and cooked perfectly. We opted for honeycombe cheesecake for dessert and it was simply one of best ever. We had an excellent relaxed Sunday lunch in a traditional country pub setting and we will return in the New Year.

Great food and reasonably priced

Looking forward to our Sunday lunch. We have been here a number of times always found the food to be really good. This time however it wasn’t. Chicken was cold, near to frozen in the middle. Vegetables so hard they would have won a boxing match with Mike Tyson. The staff did not seem to concerned on how our meal was so I decided to put a review on here instead. This was normally a great place for Sunday lunch. If the chef has changed maybe if he turns the oven on the food might be cooked enough to eat. Anyway. We will search for another Sunday lunch venue. I was looking for somewhere in the area for a family birthday lunch, Devises being the mid point of our scattered family. It is really hard to find somewhere suitable as one member of the family is vegan and gluten free, two are gluten free and one is veggie! The Fox and Hounds came up trumps, going out of their way to accommodate us. The staff are fab, so cheerful and approachable, the food is great and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. We are planning to go there again!

The most dog friendly pub in the UK! Fantastic food, fabulous service & even a little roast dinner for my dog which he found very delicious! Absolutely brilliant!

Been here as a couple several times and always had a great experience. Visited tonight and very different. I'm gluten free so have to be very careful, so asked the gentleman serving what menu items were gluten free. He started to guess, and basically didn't know. I was left to choose what I thought may be GF, and naturally was left disappointed when the website and menu state GF options. In the end it was clear he wasn't going to ask chef, so ordered the ham and eggs. Wasn't the meal I wanted. Attention to detail is key in hospitality - If you offer GF, know what dishes are GF at least. Left very deflated, and unlikely to return. Was meant to be celebrating my wife's new job. Going somewhere else tomorrow instead.

A great experience within a traditional pub setting. Friendly service and my meal was very nice. I wasn’t sure what to expect as pub food can be hit and miss, however i was pleasantly surprised. The honeycomb cheesecake is a must. My wife and I will definitely return. 5 stars.

Passed through here a few years back was looking for somewhere to camp they let me camp on a little bit of grass . I think it was the father he offered me a cup of tea in morning before I continued my journey east. One day I will visit again soon as it has a warm feel about the place friendly environment. And if I remember rightly two lovely great Danes behind the bar

This place is amazing. The staff are warm and welcoming. The Food was great hearty pub roast and roasts for my three labradors and one jack Russel. The staff played with my dogs. One of which has been seriously ill in his old age and they made him feel so welcome. They are my people for sure. Anyone with such compassion to provide such a service for dogs will always get my vote. Just £1 and a kiss from each dog buys them a little Sunday roast. The chef even came out to say hello. What more could a dog lover want? Wonderful.

Can’t get over how rude the staff are there. Considering we’ve been locked down for two years, you’d think hospitality businesses would try harder. Mediocre food. Really poor Sunday roast. Avoid this if you can. Strange atmosphere. It reminds me of the pub in the film American werewolf in London. Anyway. Will never go there again.

Excellent food and service, great value for money too.

These very kind people, fitted us in at last minute, as our plans changed dramatically at last minute, they could not have been more helpful, and the menu is fantastic, I had mighty meat, it is amazing value and absolutely delicious. I had beef pork and chicken and plenty of all. A very happy accident, but definitely a return visit very very soon.

Visited again May 2022. Once again the food was good and freshly cooked. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Will be back again when in the area.

Sorry to say it's gone downhill, cleaning beer pipes on a Friday night, not good enough. Food Is very average but prices remain competitive.

Stopped for lunch on the way back from town. This was our second visit and both times the food has been delicious. Service was excellent and staff couldn't have been more friendly. Dogs are welcome and there is a nice quiet garden out the back....

Had a joint 21st/50th birthday party in the function room. It was perfect for what we wanted clean and welcoming. Nothing was too much trouble for the landlady. I would highly recommend.

Living only a couple of miles from the Fox and Hounds we have eaten here on numerous occasions and last evening, for the first time since the onset of the pandemic, visited on the spur of the moment at 6.15pm when we were lucky to...

Eaten here many times and this wasn’t their best however it wouldn’t put me off going again. Staff were lovely and welcoming and usually food excellent so give it a try. Dogs are extremely welcome. Reasonably priced.
