stayed one night on 07.08.24. 2x people, 2x rooms. Clean 10/10. Ambience 10/10. Friendliness 10/10. Comfort 10/10. Beautiful rooms, view across to 500 year old church from the bedroom window. Large free car park as part of the hotel. And the breakfast was honestly the best breakfast i ever had in a hotel setting, 12/10 for that. Highly recommended place to stay by us.

We stayed a night here during a short trip to the west country. Chris keeps a very nice and clean place. The rooms were very charming, we got a double at the front of the building. The bathroom tub was wonderful for a nice warm bath and the bed was very comfortable and warm. The kids stayed in a twin room which was very nice as well. The full English breakfast in the morning was great and everyone left full and ready for the day. We inquired about a sack lunch as well, but chose to do lunch out the next

Wow! This was the perfect place to bring my Australian partner who had never seen proper traditional buildings especially this one that has been standing since the 17th century. We were blown away by the beauty of the building as well as the restaurant, the cosy bar and the lovely staff. It is located in a beautiful little town and is easily accessible to the Cotswolds where we were able to explore a little bit more.

Reviewed yesterday Another wonderful evening and overnight stay We have visited the Bell House Hotel annually now for the past 3 years for fireworks night and it never fails to disappoint. The fireworks were amazing and the food and staff were faultless. We stayed in room 12 and we had a very comfortable sleep and then woke up ready for the lovely English Breakfast. The Manager was very accommodating as I have food allergies and we will definitely be returning next year! Thanks Chris see you next year!

last visit July 2015 We revisited the Bell House last weekend and had a great time, we were taken to our room no 7 which had a certain charm to it, we were in the old part of the building this visit and were told every room was different in size etc and even the floors we were walking on to that part of the building brought back great childhood memories of being in ‘The Crooked House’ at the fairground.... our room was lovely clearly been renovated We had a great dinner in the restaurant both had steaks and have to say the chef certainly knows how to cook them. It was nice to catch up with Chris the manager again and get an update of this charming old place. As always he was full of stories and still passionate about the place which is great. We had breakfast (tip - book direct on their own website and then breakfast is complimentary ) otherwise via Booking.com it’s not included . Full English was delicious, we couldn’t set off without that inside us lol We will definitely be back and would recommend to people, who like us love traditional places , good pint, good food and very friendly staff who are all very welcoming

We had the misfortune of staying in this hotel whilst visiting family in the area and attending a function, as the was the only hotel close by we had no other choice but to stay here. From the moment we walked into the hotel reception the smell hit us in the face and not in a good way. The assault on my nostrils continued for the entire two days we stayed in the hotel. So much so that I Dreaded going back each evening and ensured we stayed out for as long as possible. Everyone in our party felt the exact same and had nothing good to say about their experience either.

Having read glowing review of Sunday lunches and great evening meals - decided to give it a try for a Friday lunch only to find it BOLTED,BARRED,LOCKED,SHUT!Apparently it only opens lunchtime on Sundays and only opens for restricted hours in the evenings and yet it's supposed to be a Hotel.Couldn't see the interior but the exterior looked very tatty and run down. There was a Post Office/Shop/Coffee establishment in an outbuilding off the car park where I obtained the above information and a pleasant, if over priced, mug of coffee. While I was there the Postmaster/Barrista answered the phone as the Hotel Receptionist!WIERD,WIERD,WIERD - I wouldn't bother

Did a very nice walk through the national trust meadows and along the river then called in for lunch. Had a large table in the spacious, nicely decorated bar. We all opted for th roasts (lamb, beef and chicken) which all cane with enormous Yorkshire puddings and a choice of different gravies to complement the meat. Great beef dripping roasties and seasonal veg. As the desserts are included in the £13.95 cost it would have been a shame not to partake so 3 of us had the raspberry and white chocolate bread and butter pudding and one opted for ice cream from Te local Rowdey Cow dsiry. Portions were a good size, staff were excellent and very friendly. Toilets were spotless. Would definitely visit again especially as they permit dogs in the bar.

A lovely old building once a large house with loads of history. I travel a lot on business and tire of the corporate hotels so am always looking for somewhere more personal. The Bell House was recommended by a colleague and fits this spec perfectly! Chris and the team couldn't be more friendly and welcoming and I love the huge bell key ring! The restaurant is a class above, beautifully cooked and presented food, great choices and reasonably priced - the full English breakfast has many options and marmite for my toast as well as the usual jams and marmalades. the rooms I have stayed in are lovely - clean, spacious, the quirks you expect from an old building all mod cons and the most amazing beds! Quiet, there is a lovely garden and the PO next door. I am almost reluctant to review this lovely place in case too many others use it! Can't wait for my next stay.

I spend a fair few nights a year travelling for work, and I appreciate a place with a bit of character and can forgive the odd quirk. You also can't argue with the price, excellent value for money. We came here for dinner and was hoping for a good night. The food was alright- more like pub food than restaurant food. For the price of it, I was expecting more. The staff were friendly but were sooo forgetful! Numerous times I had to remind them to bring something they forgot. Maybe they should carry notepads? Just until they get their bearings with the place? I don't know... but back to the food, it was fine but should be more flavorful and unique to make it worth the bill. The owner was friendly, but the way the place was running makes me think he doesn't have much experience with running this type of business. Hopefully things improve because I do like this location and I'd like a reason to try it again.

We visited the bell house for an evening meal and we were made to feel like we weren't good enough to dine there by the manager. It can't be a coincidence that both of us noticed a negative attitude towards us that night. The quality of our food was very high indeed, the scallops especially and the welcome we received was superb. We had a very enjoyable evening and went home wondering why we had waited so long to try out somewhere that is virtually on our doorstep. We stopped here for a family lunch after driving past on another occasion. My partner and mother in law had been here some years ago so we were keen to give it a try! Whilst the menu was limited (only about 6 mains) and some items were unavailable, there were still a few dishes to choose from (I personally struggled to choose as there were at least 4 dishes I would have had!). We sat in the bar and I believe from the website that there is a bar menu, but we were not given this. We had the venison (£20), steak (£20) and burger (£15) which was well worth it. All perfectly cooked, nice sides and no over priced drinks. The desserts were nice too (especially the cheesecake!). The waitress was very professional and the owner was very friendly. We will definitely be back! There is a step getting into the bar area and no disabled toilets, just something to bear in mind if you are travelling with anyone with physical disabilities. This is also a hotel and the rooms seem reasonably priced.

Happily stumbled across the farmers market, which had wonderful produce and charming local people selling their wares (bought lots of items, all excellent, especially the flavoured oils, seriously good). Decided to have a cup of tea at the cafe, whilst at the counter a tray full of freshly baked pies were right in front of us looking utterly tempting..! It was only 10am, but thought we'd try one anyway! And oh my gosh, so glad we did, they weren't just good, they were utterly flipping gorgeous. Seriously the best pies we've ever eaten. Pastry, buttery, light, flavoursome. Inside the beef was abundant, and in the most delicious sauce. We commented on our way out to the lovely young lady serving behind the counter, just how much we enjoyed the pies. She said they maybe selling them frozen to purchase soon and extending the range etc, due to popularity. PLEASE do!! We live in Oxfordshire but would and will travel over to purchase, freeze and eat as and when. Whoever the chef is who produces these is a star. Should go in to pie competitions, he/she would win hands down. Coming over again asap just for a warm pie. Probably almost a 100 round trip, but worth it. p.s lovely garden to sit out in too, loved the apple orchard :0)

I dropped in for a quick pint with a friend one evening knowing that it was late I knew that there was a small chance that the bar had stopped serving. The barman served us begrudgingly even though we would have left if he told us to. He then took it upon himself to charge us 5 pounds per pint due to the timing which was extortionate and was not made clear before pouring the drinks. He then continued to be rude for the rest of our visit which made up of about 15 minutes. A terrible and uncalled for experience.

This is fantastic, too long have children been offered chicken nuggets, fish fingers and sausages - which lets be honest is not decent food. The food was lovely, well seasoned and reasonable. The service was quick, attentive and friendly. Definitely worth a visit

A little wobble with a starter which was quickly resolved, didn't feel at all rushed between courses so time to chat and get to know our host who was most welcoming, along with the young lady who served us. I do like a veggie meal for a change and the meals here were a nice variation and not the usual, lots of salad that you experience elsewhere, I would highly recommend them even if like me you are not a vegetarian per se. We came here with a friend, to enjoy a nice atmosphere and great food for our Anniversary and our friend's birthday and were not dissapointed. No tv screen, fabulous, you can chat and relax, that's what we were looking for, we shall definitely return. Love the idea of having a coffee shop so can pop in during the day too.

My Fiance and I visited again, third time since Chris has taken over, and once again we left full bellied and satisfied! The dining room is stylish, although perhaps not to everyone's taste. The service has been consistantly excellent. We've always felt at the centre of the waiting staff's attention even when most other tables are full. I had the pleasure of speaking directly to the Chef who explained some of the painstaking preparation involved in his dishes. From finely hand chopped herbs in the homemade marinades to the red onion chutney that's prepared across 2 days. John certainly puts all his energy in producing quality food. We can't wait to try the new spring menu!A good selection of beverages and focused, smiling waitresses! It's a high recommendation from both of us!

We have eaten at the bell house several times and highly recommend it. A lovely dog-friendly atmosphere, wood burner and warm welcome from the friendly front of house team every time. Menu is traditional pub food cooked beautifully with huge portions. We often nibble on a cheese board and lovely chunky chips with alioli or burgers are amazing. Pork belly also a winner! We will definitely be coming back again and again.

We had Dinner for around 20 people previously booked and meals selected. Most of the group chose Beef Wellington with Apple Pie to follow. To our surprise the Beef wellington was presented individually and the Apple Pie was also individual! We expected a beef wellington which would be carved and served, not the individual portions. The pastry was excellent and the beef perfectly cooked. We will certainly book next years Annual Dinner. Many thanks to the staff and especially to the Chef!

The Bell House is our local and we have seen it rise and fall in popularity through the years. Chris the landlord has really turned the place around since taking the wheel, even incorporating the local post office into the premises. We stopped for a Family dinner and were all very impressed with the menu options and our selected meal choices. I have eaten here a handful of times in the few years Chris has ran the place and have always been happy with the experience. I wish Chris well with his future plans for the hotel and restaurant and would recommend the Bell House to anyone who wants a tasty and reliable dinner experience.

Nine of us enjoyed the two course Sunday lunch of roast beef and choice of crumble or chocolate brownie for pudding on December 21st. The beef was absolutely amazing, just melted in the mouth, vegetables plentiful and cooked to perfection, lovely Yorkshire pudding, perfect roast potatoes and plenty of tasty gravy. Puddings delicious and all homemade - if anything the helpings were too large! The staff were excellent and Chris cheerful and attentive. Restaurant beautifully decorated for Christmas with lovely seasonal music playing in the background. Really good value for money. Our new favourite place!

This wonderful coffee shop can be found in the grounds of the Bell House Hotel. It serves a range of coffees and delicious cakes. The chef from the hotel also makes pies, pasties and sausage rolls. They also sell their own brand of sausages and a range of cheeses. It's only a mile and a half from where I live but I make frequent visits and it is a great place to meet up with friends. There is also a farmers market held on the second Saturday of the month. Well done to Chris for providing an invaluable asset for the community and to Emma, Bethan and Ed for looking after customers so well.

The Bell has been completely internally rejuvenated and also benefits from fantastic new management of the Brasserie and Restaurant. Whilst I was having a rubbish time in another local hostellerie my wife, daughter and mother-in-law were having a lovely time here in the Bell. It is also the oldest functioning hotel in England and right beside the old Abbey. All in all in can't be bested, I don't know why I keep trying out other places when we have this on our doorstep.

Just had to write a quick thank you to Chris and the staff at the Bell House Hotel. We recently held a birthday party there and it was just totally fab on all counts. The venue, staff, and food were all fantastic and could not be praised enough thus making the party a complete success. Please support this fantastic pub hotel as it s a real village asset set in the heart of the Wiltshire countryside with good access to the M4 and it so warrants a visit when passing. Thank you x

Just had a delicious Sunday Roast dinner for four at The Bell House and it was fantastic. Roast beef was to die for and cooked just to your liking. Tasty veg and even tastier gravy. At £12.50 for 2 courses I thought it was very good value for a quality meal.

01/11/14 Dinner for 5, all meals Impeccable, by chance we each had different starters and mains which usually means someone is disappointed but NOT this time, friendly and efficient service from the delightful servers with sincere attention from host Chris. Having visited all other local restaurants and pubs within 8 miles this one stands out as far the best. The Bell warrants a visit and with more patronising could easily be the place to eat. the family Taylor-Walker.

We spent a most wonderful Sunday at the Bell House Hotel with a large group of family and friends. The roast beef dinner was devine and desserts fantastic particularly the chocolate brownie. Chris and his team are excellent, friendly, provide a good service and nothing is too much trouble. The ambience of the restaurant and bar was very relaxed and made the day even more special. We would highly recommend this venue.

We decided to go out for Sunday lunch for a change and chose the Bell House, good decision! In addition to the menu items they do a Sunday a Roast, two courses for £12.50. Beautifully cooked and served. The vegetables were cooked to perfection, the Yorkshire Pudding light and crisp and the beef probably the best ever, not thinly sliced and reheated in gravy but two full slices carved just before serving. No fatty bits and cooked to perfection. Overall great value and great service. Highly recommended.

We booked The Bell for a party of 45 for a special occasion. Everyone agreed the location is perfect for groups - the food was plentiful and used local produce. Chris was the most perfect host and his attention to detail is what is going to turn this bar/restaurant into the place go. Chris has only been here for a year but what a transformation and he has more ideas to come. We will definitely return for a more intimate evening or as a group again.

The Bell could be the pride of Sutton Benger, the location is great the car park is plentiful, the refurbishment in the Bar and Hotel is great, even the food is good though the menu is limited. What is missing is atmosphere ! whether you visit on a Wednesday afternoon or a Friday and Saturday night, there is hardly ever anyone in there. The Manager " Chris " would tell you its because people in Sutton Benger are weird but ,,,,,take a walk up tother end of the village to The Wellesley and you see where all the people are !

We arrived with a toddler, baby & 4 adults & the attentive service was second to none - very friendly & practical. The menu choice for lunch was varied & suited everyone. They were kind enough to slightly alter the pasta sauce for my grandson & portion according to his size which was perfect. We had a most relaxing lunch while watching a wedding leave the church opposite - always entertaining! Lunch with small people is not always a relaxing experience & can be nerve wracking but we were made very welcome with no rush & hurry. We will definitely be visiting the Bell House again when down that way. Delicious.

Went to lunch today, waited and waited to be served! no acknowledgement from the staff/owners and to add insult to the situation two separate parties entered the bar and were promptly served before us even though it was obvious they had come in after us! Will never set foot in that place again it was the worse service I have ever had the misfortune to receive.

My wife and I popped into the Bell House last night for a meal on our way back from a photography trip. We hadn't been here for a number of years, and it looks like the interior has been redecorated since we last visited - there's a very nice modern-looking bar area with a more formal restaurant area just off to the side, though as it was a nice evening we ended up sitting outside, opposite the church. My wife had cod and chips and reckoned it was one of the best she's ever had. I just went for chips with aioli, as I'd had a very big late lunch earlier, followed by some Marshfield ice cream. The food was very good and the service was terrific - the landlord was really friendly and the serving staff were all great. We'll definitely be back soon!
