Four and Twenty in Eden

This is our second visit to Four and Twenty and we were not disappointed. The food was amazing, the atmosphere great and George the waiter was a delight. A perfect evening had by all. Would highly recommend.

This was a find! Totally gorgeous food and wine pairings. Just the right amount of choices offered. Everything we ate was beautifully cooked and flavoursome. Brilliant service from the staff, the perfect blend of informative without being overbearing or stuffy. I would highly recommend it.

We were on holiday staying in Penrith town and booked this restaurant the week before our visit. It wasn't easy to speak to somebody but I did eventually manage to and was told that there may be a 'very slight possibility' that they wouldn't be open on the night I wanted to book. The chap still took the booking and credit card details in case WE CANCELLED and they would charge us! I did ask if he would pay me if THEY CANCELLED? I asked how I would know if they would be open or not and he said to ring - easier said that done as I've already mentioned. We arrived in Penrith and went to the restaurant the night before our booking to check it would be open. It was CLOSED despite a notice on the door and window saying it was OPEN. This did not bode well but as they had not been in touch and cancelled we arranged to meet our friend as previously planned. We checked the following day at lunch time and the restaurant was CLOSED when it advertised it would be OPEN. There was somebody inside and so we asked if it would be open that night. The person said no they were not opening. I then received an email just a few hours before our due arrival to say the booking was cancelled. What a disappointment for us and our friend. SURELY they must've known they would not be open soon er and we could've arranged an alternative venue.

Wow! Relied on TripAdvisor to recommend this restaurant and they richly deserve their excellent reviews. Incredibly delicious food, perfectly presented with excellent customer service. Such a shame we were only passing through and won't be able to return to sample the rest of the menu!

Booked a week ago on the phone for 3, very difficult to get through, had a deposit taken, told there might be the slightest chance that the restaurant might not be open. Saw it was closed the night before our reservation but got automated email confirming it, but called by to check on the day to be told not opening our evening. Appalling way to run a business, just don't take bookings if in any doubt whatsoever, now have to find something else at short notice.

What a gem ..four friends and i thoroughly enjoyed the set lunch .. had 3 courses and the food was amazing .. I am a qualified chef myself so I don’t praise food readily . The cocktails were tasty too .. will be defiantly be back for more . Highly recommended

My wife and I went for valentine's day lunch today , really enjoyed it , excellent food and service . Chef called me yesterday to discuss the menu , as I am gluten and lactose intolerant , which really impressed me , however no mention of that when we arrived and were given the menu , I was ok with it and managed to find choices which were ok for me but I think more needs to be done to inform customers of gluten free / lactose free/ vegan choices available on the menus . Having said that the meal and drinks were excellent as was the service , will definitely be back again .

We were spoilt for choice when looking at the menu and when it arrived it looked and tasted excellent (venison suet pie, blade of beef and belly pork - the cod looked fantastic too!). Service was friendly and attentive but we never felt rushed or overly fussed over. Looking forward to going back!

Fabulous place. The food was delicious, the menu concise and the service excellent. The staff looked happy to be there - something that shouldn’t be underestimated! I thought it offered good value for money and loved that it felt like a treat without being pretentious. We would definitely return when back in Penrith.

Stunning! Lovely A La Carte food, great Malborough Sauvignon wine, great staff, George seems to be everywhere ensuring it all runs smoothly. The chefs deserve a special mention not just for cooking but the presentation. Look forward to our next visit when we are in the area and again we will book in advance.

4 and 20 is always a reliable dinner out. The menu is always updated regularly, the food is always good, the staff are welcoming and friendly, and this place is always busy enough to have a good atmosphere. If you're looking for a regular place to eat out in Penrith, then this is well worth a try.

Just absolutely stunning, our favourite place to go to in Penrith. Service outstanding, food incredible. Would recommend to absolutely everyone, and I do! Every time we come here we are blown away, plates are cleared fully every single time. Never can fault this place, can’t wait to come back every time !! Probably the best restaurant food I have eaten in 10 years. This is cooking at its absolute best. The French onion soup so flavoursome, the beef was just melt in the mouth good. Great service, no fuss, no rush. Penrith is lucky to have this level of restaurant. It is brilliant

We had a lovely evening , food was lovely booked to perfection . The restaurant felt a little cold but was ok . We really enjoyed all 3 courses and were glad we chose here . The other 3 also enjoyed it . The service was great attentive but not intrusive . We’ll visit again .

Absolutely beautiful flavours. Mushroom pate was delightful and the pig cheeks were succulent and beautifully garnished and served. These were the tastes of haute cuisine. Will go again

Staying near to Penrith for a few days we looked around for a place to eat and we chose Four and Twenty and we’re glad we did. On a wet November night we were welcomed into a warm and friendly atmosphere by the staff. We went for the 3 course set menu which was just fine for us. The food quality was excellent and the nice homemade breads before the meal were a nice touch. We left fully satisfied and agreed that we would eat here again when in the area.

We had the most exceptional dinner here. The atmosphere, service and food was all outstanding as was the gorgeous waiter. Would definitely recommend, on our travels we will be back.

Fantastic meal in lovely surroundings with very attentive staff. We had the set menu which was very imaginative and tasted great, also very good value. The speed of service was just right and surprisingly quick considering the dishes didn’t look straightforward.

We had been here before and chose our hotel stop on the way to Scotland so we could dine here on the way. The restaurant was just as we remembered. The food was wonderful, it is one of the few places now where you get complimentary fresh bread. Our starters and mains were delicious and we choose light desserts. Our drinks were also amazing, a Paddington Martini and a non-alcoholic Refresher, which certainly lived up to its name. This one of the few places now, where no service charge is added and we were happy to leave a cash tip. This was a wonderful evening.

Could not fault anything here at all! Gorgeous food, lovely ambience and relaxed feel with friendly and helpful staff. Set menu was all delicious- can't recommend it enough.

The best meal for our 4-day trip in Lake District. First of all, we received a very warm (on a wet and chilly day) and friendly welcome. The 2-course lunch menu we had was approaching fine dining quality but cost only 23 GBP. You may have a 3-course menu (starter, main and dessert) at 3 GBP more. That is absolutely value for money. This is a casual bistro style restaurant which also offers wine pairing. The recommended wines seemed to be very solid and reasonably priced. Too bad I could not taste any of them as I had to drive back to Glasgow after lunch. Overall, an ideal place to stop over for a meal if you pass by Penrith on your way to or back from the Lake District.

Went here for a meal when we stopped over in Penrith on our way up to Scotland. Ideal location right opposite the hotel. Service was great, very welcoming. We had a delicious fish pie to share for starters and for mains I had the BBQ pork and my husband had the beef. Too full for pud unfortunately. Also had 1L carafe of wine. Went to celebrate a graduation. Very attentive, unobtrusive staff. Nice menu with unusual twists to classics . Portions were good size but not overwhelming and tasted delicious. Recommend the fish pie starter and the chocolate nemesis dessert in particular.

As a regular traveller up and down the M6 seeking decent fare on overnight stays, and having discovered this total gem of a restaurant by chance several years ago... I have not failed to return regularly since - most recently just this week - and never been disappointed, not once. The quality of the cooking is superb, quite matching the invention and ingenuity that goes into the creation of truly appealing seasonal menus. Regular patrons, and there must be many if Penrith has not lost all sense of culinary discernment, will recognise a core homage to Cumbrian beef, lamb and pork offered in a variety of cuts and styled with a range of sauces and accompaniments, so that even these standards are ever-changing in their concept and presentation. The menu changes with the seasons, taking account of the latest fresh produce. On a previous visit roasted lamb rump was offered with a slow cooked Isle of Wight tomato, a lamb moussaka, fresh summer vegetables, and even the drizzled balsamic and olive oil was minted. Bliss! But equally I've witnessed it offered with crushed new potatoes, wild garlic and Lancashire cheese... gorgeous. The menus cater for all tastes... duck and chicken appear regularly; and vegetarians and pescetarians are well looked after too, with similar attention to variety and intriguing presentation. Yes, you will find luscious cod and fragrant sea bass swimming at you out of the menu; but also star options such as the turbot I enjoyed this week, served in a delectable lobster 'minestrone'... a total, taste-popping delight. On a previous visit there was a starter of turbot fish fingers; not, you might think, the way to treat the King of the Sea, but it was expertly done to preserve the mild sweetness of this star favourite... brave in concept, stunning in execution. Also, not often do you find a twice baked cheese souffle offered as a starter, and with such success. Lovely puddings too, and an excellent, well-chosen wine list. The menu helpfully offers a wine pairing for every dish. Service is knowledgeable, friendly and very professional. Tables are well spaced and the overall ambience is welcoming. Cooking of this standard, variety and consistency is rare... all the dishes, dainty or otherwise, could certainly be set before a king. But I strongly recommend you try them for yourselves instead! On some evenings they also offer a very cost conscious prix-fixe menu, for two or three courses... amazing value. Booking highly recommended.

My friends treated me to dinner here during my first visit to Penrith From the minute we entered, I felt warm and welcome, and our seats next to the kitchen were perfect The set menu gave a variety of choices but was not overwhelming I chose not to have a starter, and went straight for the sea bass and then the chocolate pot with honeycomb ice cream Everything was delicious and beautifully plated, and the staff were all friendly and attentive without being pushy I would definitely recommend the experience to anyone in this area, and just wish we had one in Surrey! An exceptional bit of cooking, seriously. We had the beef and guineafowl, and it was superb. Even the non-alcoholic cherry bakewell cocktail was unbelievable. Compliments to the chef, and the bar staff. 10/10.
