Working locally and really enjoy a Chinese meal, we found this place and have had a few meals over the past 2 weeks. Staff very accommodating and helpful, food choice is fantastic, freshly cooked and ample portions. Well worth a visit and I will be back again when working locally next time

Disappointing experience. I ordered beef with ginger and spring onions but they replaced the spring onions with large chunks of white onions and did not have the curtesy to say so before serving the order. Insulting that they assume the customer doesn’t know the difference between a spring onion and a white onion.

Not the best I’ve had fried rice is like boiled rice hot and sour soup just tasted like pepper chow mien not so good

I ordered a takeaway as the previous food I've had from this restaurant was delicious and we travel from Tenby as the quality is so good and my daughter loves the fact that they do tasty dumplings and chicken satay . My daughter suffers from anxiety but tries her best to leave the house for the drive to Camarthen so I pre order my Takeaway for collection so she doesn't have to wait long when I run in and collect it . The last time I visited they gave my takeaway to the wrong person 😕. So I had to sit and wait which was a long time for my takeaway to be recooked while this was being done they phoned my mobile saying I had the wrong meal I said no I'm sat right infront of you . Waiting for my food as it was my meal you gave to the wrong client so once again contacted the wrong person as they were trying to get hold of the person who had my meal . My daughters anxiety levels went through the roof as she was concerned to what was taking so long . There was no real apology to me . It would have been good customer service to atleast have offered me a drink while I waited for my inconvenience

Just visited 30 minutes ago , shocking service, we are a family of 5 , 2 adults & 3 kids , we called in at 5 minutes past 5 , not one customer in there and asked for a table. Their reply was have you booked, I said no but you’re empty, the lady said we’ve got a party of 22 coming in at 6.30 so I said we’ll be done by 6 and they said no sorry, then I said you’ve got room here for a 100 people and still she said no . We went to weatherspoons and had a lovely meal, please give this place a miss , they don’t deserve your custom

Awful! Awful! Awful! Poor quality, food had no flavour. Fried rice that was literally just boiled rice with some plain chicken & pineapple added. Not fried at all. Again no flavour. Smoked Shredded chicken that was just a pot full of tiny blobs of batter. No chicken at all. Truly shocking and an absolute waste of money. If we had sat in I would have refused to pay. If I lived closer I would have taken it back and demanded a refund. Won't be returning.

Delicious meal, fresh ingredients all beautifully cooked and presented. Best Chinese meal we've had for a long time and all staff were lovely and very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend, thank you!

Visited for the first time with high hopes but left very disappointed. Decor etc all promising but after pleasant initial greeting it went downhill. Restaurant was cold with many diners keeping their coats on as they ate and it just lacked any atmosphere. Crispy duck was beautifully presented but meat was very dry and there was not enough plum sauce or veg for the pancakes. We then waited 40 minutes for the main course dishes we’d ordered and they came out one by one not together. Chicken noodles and prawns with ginger were fine but we sent the chicken & cashew nuts back as, guess what, no cashew nuts! Replacement was just sauce poured over the chicken & cashews and was not good. Deep fried, shredded crispy beef was so dry and over cooked we weren’t even sure there was any beef in the batter. Closer inspection showed there had once been beef inside but it was cooked to dust. £60 was not a cheap way to find out that this was not a good restaurant. Would I recommend this restaurant or visit again? Strong NO on both counts sadly.

I placed a order to this restaurant via telephone. I had to then wait over a hour in the restaurant due to my order not being ready. While I waited for my order, I witnessed 5 telephone calls regarding customers receiving missing items from their orders. I then asked to check my order before taking it , this meant checking there were the correct plastic containers in the bag..When I got home my partner started dishing food into bowls and I realised my daughters Special Chop Suey was infact sweet and sour chicken. I telephoned the restaurant straight away and they requested pictures of the container, which I did so . I then opened my container to find a special curry infact had 60% raw onions and a few pieces of chicken and 2 prawns. Our chips were pale and not cooked aswell. The reply after we sent the pictures was a laughing emoji ! The next day I was extremely unwell with food poisoning which 3 days later I am still extremely unwell. I had only eaten the Chinese meal that Saturday so the cause is obviously food from that restaurant. I am disgusted with the reply from this business as customer service and quality of food is not priority to them.. I will be taking this issue further to get this restaurant checked out regarding their Hygiene .

Food was fresh and delicious, big portions. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs and they even packed up the remainder for us to take home. Service was excellent and the staff member who served us was lovely. Only piece of advice I'd give is come with a big appetite!

I came to this restraunt with my family. I have never been to a Chinese or an oriental restraunt before so this was a new experience. The food was lovely and it was perfectly the taste of China. We all loved it and the service was extremely quick and dinner was served in a matter of minutes. It only had one disadvantage. The waiter was kind and helpful, but maybe a little much. It always felt a little as if she was looking over my shoulders as if she wanted us to hurry up. This was only one disadvantage because we felt uncomfortable, but other than that. It was a lovely place and I recommend it to an oriental lover 😊

Absolutely disgusting food, asked for fried rice ended up with boiled rice and wrong order, when phones attitude was disgusting demanding us to bring it back bare in mind we are 30 minutes away.

Best Chinese I have had in al long time. Had the set meal B change 2 of the main to suit my 2 grandsons having a sleep over and they tried everything and loved it. Would have loved to have a sit down but not allowed. Would definitely recommend 5stars

Ordered for collection. All covid19 measures in place which made us feel very safe. Food was delightful,the food was very tasty and not at all greasy. Great value for money.

Tonight was the first time we considered the scary thought of venturing out for a take away in the middle of this Covid. The service was impeccable. Their attention to all health and safety guidelines made me feel very happy to go home and enjoy a really delicious take away. Definitely recommend here

My parents and I went to the Fortune House this evening for a meal. The food was amazing and the service was brilliant. The food came really quickly too. Can’t fault it. Price was reasonable. Couldn’t have asked for more ! Will definitely be back!

Lovely food,we had prawn crackers free of charge a had starter main meal and drinks. £39.00 for the two of us, after we finished we were given fresh fruit, which was nice and refreshing again free of charge. Definitely be going back, they were very busy with take sways as well. Good service, the only draw back it was quite cold there, luckily I took a scarf which I kept on. Otherwise excellent, looking forward to our next visit.

Similar to many Chinese restaurants throughout UK. Food always good, service excellent and pleasant surroundings.

We arrived without booking and the restaurant was very busy but the waitress quickly managed to find us a table for two. I was pleasantly surprised by the interior of the restaurant as I’ve passed it for years but never actually ventured in! It’s much nicer inside.The menu was good and the food arrived surprisingly quickly seeing as they were so busy and were obviously also busy with takeaway meals. The best thing by far are the polite and hardworking reception and waiting staff.The price was more than fair at £20 a head but we weren’t drinking.The restaurant could do with a little bit of music as it lacked a bit of atmosphere. Some of the serving dishes have seen better days, as have the garnishes, but overall a really good experience.

Lived in Carmarthen for 2 years now and have slowly got around to using all the Chinese Takeaways and whilst there is not a huge amount of difference in quality (they are all 3-4 star, then where Fortune House excels is in customer service - there is a pride here which is absent in other places especially in the takeaway across the road where they are nothing else but rude. It is lovely to visit here and they don,t ignore you (even when busy take note others!!!). Nice meal and nice experience and I only had a takeaway.

Since opened many years ago been about 4 or 5 times...First couple years food very bland and uncolouful so didn’t go again for long time ...Year or so ago had a pleasant meal...This end May BH Sunday had an awful meal ...Every thing was WAY TOO SALTY ...out of 5 of us two starters couldn’t finish and 2 meals ( never ever not finished a shared crispy seaweed before !! ) Waiter was great and waitress pleasant and quick service ...Even though 2 of us have been cooks for 30 years we are not fussy but was inedible ...We didn’t complain even though I wanted to as they had let us in really late ...whoever was cooking that night was very heavy handed with salt ....put me off for few more years

The food is ok but the service is slow. The outside looks very rundown but the inside is nicely decorated.

Went here for a Chinese with some of my family after returning from a Trip to Thailand. The welcoming was great and the smartly dressed staff were attentive from the off and we all commented on how nice the decor was inside, which is a sharp contrast to the outside which is low key. Everything is super clean and impeccably presented and the food was tasty and in generous amounts and the menu items themselves are varied with a smattering of Thai options in there also. All in all I can't recommend highly enough.

Came for a family meal last week, I have to say that the food had changed totally, The several times we have come before were lovely, this time, it looked different and tasted different. Having been here a couple years ago and had an awful meal, I visited Fortune House because roads to other places were flooded. The place has been completely transformed, the staff were extremely smartly presented and very friendly. We ordered a takeaway meal, and a cold drink whilst waiting. As we sat in the waiting area, which was spacious and welcoming, we were given some complimentary prawn crackers.

It was a quiet Wednesday night and unexpectedly the place was more-or-less empty. So I was welcomed and show to my seat straight away. A basket of prawn crackers appeared immediately, and my drink arrived in no time, and the food was in front of me before I had to play with my phone!

I regularly visit for take-aways and have been for sit in meals too - the tofu/bean curd they do is great and can't be found at a lot of other places in town. Service is always pleasant. They do gluten-free meals so excellent for my housemate too. Would definitely recommend.

Stopped in Carmarthen for the night to see Joe Lycett and returned to the fortune house where my fiancee and I had our first date 6 yrs ago. The restaurant has changed hands inbetween visits but all for the better as far as we could see. Good atmosphere, attentive and friendly but and good food at reasonable prices. We had a set menu to share with plenty of variety and plenty to eat. Definitely worth another visit

From getting the local authorities' lowest hygiene rating to now being five stars in just a three year period is nothing short of remarkable. Out went the former owners; in came new people. Out went the old kitchens and a lot of money was spent making the whole building look as good as its food. Add to this the most charming Chinese-Welsh person fronting the counter and you have the perfect place for a meal.

my husband and i walked in and were greeted by the staff, although the restaurant was not busy, we were looked after very well. Plenty of choice, not too expensive to eat here. Family is also welcome here. The food was really lovely, would go back here and recommend them.

Best Chinese in Carmarthen hands down! Lovely food and fantastic service! Been looking for a decent Chinese for a long time and glad to have found this one. Honestly the other Chinese takeaways are not a patch on Fortune House. Inside is nice and clean and tidy, staff very friendly and didn't have to wait long for food. All the food was full of nice fresh vegetables and not at all greasy. Highly recommended! Also an extensive vegetarian menu to keep my wife happy!

We have been customers of the Fortune House for many years and seen the quality of the food wax and wane many times. Recently they've had a change in the kitchen and the quality of the cuisine is amazing. It is so much better than it has been in the past and I just hope they're able to keep this up. Well done to the team and look forward to many more visits.

Chinese food has to be my all time favourite food, so depending on where you live depends on which takeaway or restaurant you visit & as a well travelled family we have eaten & tried some of the best Chinese food in the world and eaten in some of the finest Chinese restaurants at the same time too, without name dropping here's just a few we have eaten in - Mr Chows in Knightsbridge, Xheng He in Dubai, the Min Jiang in the Royal Garden Hotel, from the finest chineses in Londons China Town to the Uk's best, been working in Sourh Wales recently on a long term contract & searched desperately for a nice restaurant up and down the M4, I have found this one in Carmarthen which since our very first visit here has changed hands & had a complete new management & staff changeover

The restaurant is currently under new management, with experienced and professional chefs and staffs. Food is made with crafts, and better taste

Very enjoyable Singapore noodles and fresh cooked, lovely spring rolls. Food quality can be let down by the service, but not in this case; Kay-Lee was the very model of customer service excellence

Lo que un lugar fabuloso para ir a cenar. El personal era muy simpático y hablador. No tuvimos que esperar mucho tiempo para nuestra comida, que era delicioso. Este restaurante tiene un precio razonable y buena para su precio, también estaba muy limpio y tenía un montón de espacio. Sin duda recomendaría este lugar a nadie! 5 estrellas de nosotros :-).

Fui a recoger una hora después de ordenar por teléfono como se le indique. Pero aún así tuvimos que esperar otra media hora para la comida. Mi noche. Ballsed Se ve a otro lugar la próxima vez.

Very often Asian restaurants are not keen on single diners, however here I had no such issues. The layout is a bit odd but I went there for the food after all.A Chinese beer and a bowl of prawn crackers allowed me time to read the menu. Nothing really different to most Chinese establishments but a choice was to be made.Deep fried chilli squid to start which was ok and a crab and sweet corn soup which could have been less glutinous but tasted fine.Main of Singapore fried rice and a Schezuan Prawn dish. The rice dish was far better than the rather bland prawn dish which was billed as hot but somewhere in the kitchen they must have lost the chilli heat. Flavours were ok but again the Schezuan sauce was a bit msg.The service was pleasant,the portions were quite generous and the bill was quite acceptable.

My second visit to the Fortune House .Definitely the best Chinese restaurant in Carmarthen I would highly recommed it .The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and you always feel welcome by staff the menu is pretty extensive with a wide range of authentic Chinese dishes the food is always perfectly cooked and very tasty .The Chef is doing a amazing job and we will most definitely be back soon with family to sample same more of your culinary delights .Thank you all .

We visited after the cinema yesterday for dinner.The manager was very friendly and we felt very welcome.The food we ordered was promptly served and was good quality.One nice touch was that the manager suggested that the portions were large so one portion of rice would be sufficient which was very decent of her as she was proved right and two portions would be a waste of money.The restaurant was quiet but there was a very busy take away business carried on which suggested good food.We would recommend this restaurant and will return,

A warm welcome with the owner took us to our table.We where giving a basket of free prawn crackers excellent choose on the menu for starters we had fried won tons, deep fried squid and crispy seaweed with sweet&sour sauce it was all delicious and for mains we had King prawns seafood dishes they were mouth-watering cooked to perfection all was served quickly and tasted good .Amazing food,friendly atmosphere and fantastic customer service .I highly recommend this Chinese Cantonese seafood restaurant I am looking forward to my next visit to the restaurant .thank you all

We went here for a takeaway. Haven't been here for ages and thought we'd try it after visiting family. It was fantastic! We live 30 minutes away from Carmarthen and the food was still warm when we got home, the service was quick and polite and it wasn't much more expensive than our usual takeaway

First impressions looked ok but way over priced. Would not visit again food was ok. Prices are a bit high for a 1 star restraunt.

Last evening , I was on business in the town and felt a little peckish , I usually carry something with me but on this occasion I didn,t . having parked I took a stroll around and I came across the above per chance . the opening hours are 5.30 to 11pm six days a week ,closed on a Monday by the way .well it would have taken me half an hour to return to my vehicle and as it was only 5pm I decided to wait and see what the Fortune House had to offer . it opened on time , and was quite pleasant within , the toilets were spotless , and the seating quite adequate , though a little faded . something I cannot say about the food , which overall I found to be plentiful and very tasty . starting with the Spare ribs in a Cantonese sauce. and following with a Special curry and egg fried rice . overall a very enjoyable dinner but lacking atmosphere the restaurant is quite large and by the time I had finished my meal , only two other diners had come in , a shame really and i'm assuming this is because of no parking space for the customers . I suspect that this restaurant has a good and regular and local cliental . its still worth finding in my opinion . I will call again ......

I've had takeaway food from Fortune house on a few occasions and generally, the food is good, especially the set meals. Because of that some friends and I decided to eat in the restaurant, for me the evening was entertaining for the wrong reasons and a couple of friends were upset by the antics of the staff, or one of them in particular.Now lets get this straight, fortune house is not a flash restaurant, and neither does it claim to be so you have to adjust your expectations as you go in; the decor is pretty typical of Chinese restarants and most of the staff are friendly, its a popular restuarant and the takeaway is quite often busy so the food is obviously appreciated by the locals. On the night of our visit it was very busy and even though as a large group (9 of us) we had booked a table we had to wait about half an hour to be seated. When we were seated we were put on a table that was a little too small to accommodate us all comfortably but we managed by coordinating elbows. Half way through the meal a member of staff approached us and told us we had to move as the table had been previously booked and 'our' table which was upstairs was now ready for us. One member of our party protested but his plate was snatched away and orders of 'you come you come' were barked at him. I found this amusing but some older members of our party didn't, especially as one didn't walk too well. The staff carried our half-eaten meals upstairs and we followed them, they led us to the table and ordered us to sit 'you sit, you sit'. Next I was treated to a lesson in using chopsticks which I didn't need as I can easily use them but apparently I was holding them too far down the stem for the liking of the increasing excitable waiter, an older Chinese man, who kept whipping them out of my hands and insisting I 'hold properly', that did get a bit wearing. The hilarity came when one of our party decided he wanted to finish the meal with a sorbet (he should have ordered this when we ordered the main as they do need time to thaw) it was delivered - a half lemon shell filled with lemon sorbet but was so hard you could have built a house with it! You would need a pneumatic drill to make any sort of impression on it, absolutely impossible to eat. He lifted the half lemon and tapped the plate with it to demonstrate to us and the waiter how solid it was, he dropped it and it smashed the plate as it landed! I was in stitches but that was the final straw for the older ones, one unreasonably being unhappy because the 'house' chow mien was different to the one provided by her local takeaway, she didn't get that it was a different 'house' therefore a different recipe. Anyway, we paid for the food, but not the sorbet and left laughing (I was anyway) and did a detour to a supermarket to buy sorbet for our friend who felt cheated of his desert! A highly entertaining evening but you do need to be with the right people to enjoy to its maximum. I haven't eaten in the restaurant since.

If I wanted a Chinese in Carmarthen I always went here.But on my last two visits I have been very disappointed with the quality of the meal, after the first ,when I went the second time and mentioned the previous meal I was given a discount ,but that meal also proved to be disappointing with the beef being very rubbery.so wont be going again.

We are always made to feel welcome here. There is a great selection of food on offer, plus a number of set meals, which offer good value for money. The food is always of the highest order, and competitively priced. Never a bad experience yet!

This is by far the best chinese in carmarthen with a nice restaurant and friendly staff. Its priced well also with decent portions. I live less than a mile from this restaurant and use it regularly, it is consistantly good making it a safe bet if you are in carmarthen town.

Returned to try this Chinese and was pleasantly surprised on its improvement. It was never very bad, but expensive with small portions. Last night we had an excellent well cooked meal and plenty of it, staff could not do enough for you in fact they were trying a little to hard hovering around and constantly watching rather than let us eat our meal in peace. We will be back and certainly got our moneys worth this time

Visited several times over recent months and have yet to have a bad meal. The food is always tasty and very well presented, with ample portions as mentioned by previous reviewers. The staff are always friendly and extremely attentive, which can sometimes be lacking in eateries in Carmarthen. Don't be put off if the restaurant might seem a little quiet at times, this is not a bad reflection on the great food and excellent service.

Very good food, and plenty of it.Staff very courtious and pleasant, will go again-.The food was plenty full,in fact there was enough for two in each portion, took what we could not eat home.

We have eaten here a few times now and have always enjoyed ourselves. There is a good choice on the menu and everything we have tried has been fresh and tasty.The evenings we have been have been nice and quiet, which suits us fine! The decor is a little tired but there are lovely staff to look after you.

Take aways or sit - in is always a pleasure staff friendly and accommodating good range of dishes beats the socks off for quality when compared to REAL CHINA BUFFET

Myself and a party of 18 others turned up unannounced on a Friday night and they seated us and fed us. The service was a little slow, but it was only to be expected! And the food was worth waiting for. Set meal B if you can squeeze it all in is very good value for money.

The staff here are very polite and friendly. The menu holds a great selection of Cantonese style dishes. The service is efficient and quick, even though they were busy on the night we attended. We had a set menu for two people and it was more than we could eat !The only slight cmplaint was that this is the 2nd time we have dined here within a few months and ther is yet another restaurant manager in attendance.

We ate here many times between 2008 and 2010, and even became friends with Tony one managed the place. The food was never world class, but it was cheap and cheerful and Tony always looked after us so we ate there quite a lot after work for a quick meal. Then Tony left and this was our first visit under new managment. My wife is a Vegan and mixed in with her Tofu and black bean, was pork....she had not eaten meat for 21 years and was very ill the next day. I complained in the strongest possible terms, and they just shrugged there shoulders......we of course left, there and then. If anyone who is Veggi like me, or vegan like my wife DO NOT EAT HERE,,,,,...If im honest I did speak to the Health and safety chap from the council, and from what I understand ours has not been the only complaint............

This is one of the best quality Cantonese restaurants I've been to in Wales.

Ate in the restaurant during the week. Never been before but as there were a few people in thought it must be ok. Service was pretty good but found it difficult ordering anything different from the menu due to the waiters lack of english i.e asked for no chinese mushrooms and ended up with them, however the food was very nice. Found it a bit more expensive than I usually pay but then I didn't find any other chinese restaurants in the area.

We have been here many times, food has normally been OK, but the last couple of occasions, the food has come with a "burnt" taste - It looks very nice, but you can tell that the pan has burnt by tasting it.They supply prawn crackers on your table, which are at the table, before you are - They are always soft and stale (Who knows how long they have been out for) They have had issues recently of illegal immigrants being caught on-site, so maybe the chef has been deported?Also, the staff can be very rude - I ordered a bottle of chinese beer, which came warm - I couldnt drink it so I complained, the waitress asked if I would like an ice cube to put in it!!! I declined and asked for a lager on draft, which was nice - They then tried to charge me for both drinks as the "warm" beer had some drunk (a small mouthful) - They didnt want to knock off the £2.30, but did so in the end - No big deal, but their attitude was very disappointing and because of this, and the burnt dishes, we wont be visiting againThere are other Chinese restaurants in the area - we will be trying them next

Fortune House situated on Priory Street is perhaps unassuming from the outside but inside it's decor is modern and welcoming. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly as are the most helpful and polite staff. When we were there the restaurant was quite full but the table layout still gave us that air of privacy when dining.The food - QUITE SUPERB. The service was second to none and the drinks list was good. But back to the cuisine which was well presented and staff allowed good time between courses which made for a relaxed and unhurried few hours. This restaurant is up there among the best as far as Cantonese cuisine is concerned. The menu is varied and the specialities of the house centre around a good choice of seafood dishes. But if these are not for you, the rest of the menu is designed to please and vegetarians are well catered for.Rest assured - we shall be back.
