Fortes in Sedgemoor

Very busy café, but incredibly efficient team handling orders so no wait at all really! I had a chicken Sunday roast with extra gravy, they forgot my Yorkshire pudding and I didn't realise that I didn't have one until an hour later lol, oh dear, it's an age thing ha ha! Roast potatoes obviously deep fried, they were rather bland looking and tasting tbh, so oven roasts would have been much nicer as these weren't the best. £11.95 plus a coffee on top, so circa £15 in total. Dinner was nice enough, and the portions are generous also. I would return for the same, but with the Yorkie next time lol, as the service was excellent, very friendly indeed. Sort the roasties out and you're onto a winner! (P.S. I would recommend this place, the deserts looked absolutely gorgeous!)

We were in Burnham yesterday looking at my old boarding school and decided to walk along the front, with me pointing out "landmarks" from my youth to my husband. We came across Fortes and I couldn't resist popping in for old times sake. Husband had a 99 ice cream in a cone and I had a Too Much Fudge Sundae....coming to £10!!!!! There were no prices for the Sundae anywhere but it was lovely so it didn't really matter. The ordering system was a little confusing but, once we realised what we were supposed to do, it went well. Staff could possibly benefit from taking a course in smiling though! A smile costs nothing. The toilets left a lot to be desired. Water (or some liquid!) all over the floor and the flush didn't work. All in all..... lovely deserts but they need to sort out the loos and smile at the customers. Without customers, there would be no jobs!

Went for Sunday lunch. Prices have increased a lot since last year but seems like the quality of food has gone down. Food was dry, not much taste, beef was fatty. Whereas before when we’ve gone in the past it used to be very good, tasty and flavourful but unfortunately it wasn’t this year. - To bring some positives, staff were friendly and it was clean.

Lovely coffee and cakes however was quite disappointed with the “baby changer” which was just an empty marble workspace in the women’s loos!

We went in. The environment seem good and nice. My hunband ordered the mix grill and curry. According to my husband he did tell them he was glutten free. I lost my appetite as soon as I saw onion rings on his plate. My husband go up and sent back my curry as I couldn't eat it and told them about the onion rings to which one waiter said "sorry" they refunded the curry. I told my husband he should send back the mix grill as we don't know if it is contaminated. He was adamant that the rings only touched the peas. Anyway. I waited for my son to finish eating and then took the mix grill back with 80% of the food still on the plate. I told them this was not acceptable and they could have made my husband ill. Another waiter (not the one who apologised before) said that my husband never asked to be glutten free and they didn't force him to eat it. Yes they did not, I truly wished my husband hadn't. The same waiter then said I was rude and should leave. I replied that she didn't need to ask me twice. Extremely happy to leave. Anyway. I hope they go to alergy awareness course and don't kill anyone..... I am now waiting to see if my husband gets poorly or not. We left a few minutes ago. Sometimes it can take a bit of time for him to fall ill. I agree that it's his fault for eating it. But what is really out of this world upsetting is them saying that my husband didn't tell them he was glutten free and instead of empathising to the fact that I am upset about the propect of the person I love being ill and apologising they just made it sound like I was on the wrong to complain that they messed up the order. Anyway. I guess it's he said she said...... but I would be surprised if my celiac husband had temporarily forgotten about his illness.....

Terrible service went in for 3 roasts 1 meat 2 vegetarian they said they had chicken for the meat eater but just a plate of veg for vegetarians n there gravy is made of meat there is no other option for vegetarians I stated it’s a bit discriminative against vegetarians n they said YES they like to be So vegetarians Don’t bother entertaining them !

Lovely breakfast very hot and tasty Service was good and polite The place was reasonably clean and bright Shane about paying 5p for sauce which Is the only thing I could say was negative

Dirty toilets, no hot water, hand blower usless, no available paper towels to use to dry hands due to said pointless blower, price of americano same as a latte bitter tasting coffee.

Had brunch here whilst holidaying nearby. great menu but my breakfast was awful. Fatty bacon, dried up fried egg, awful sausage and too many hard baked beans. plate was hot but the food wasnt.

Was a bit confused at first since there was no signage stating that they were serving Sunday lunch but when we asked they confirmed. Food was very good, arrived hot and it was a great portion. The only downside was that the restaurant was very hot, could've done with some air con. Staff friendly and work hard.

My mother has reported that they provided a meal today that was not what they actually ordered. When this was challenged the staff members were rude and said “if you don’t want to come back don’t come.”This despite my mum being a regular there with her husband. To top it all they said they would look at the CCTV which apparently has sound??? They returned and said the sound was switched off. I don’t think they should be voice recording which is a massive intrusion of privacy laws as a business. I’m not surprised that there are other poor reviews in this place and we will not be visiting again.

Delicious food, amazing ice cream & great service. A wonderful place to eat! Parking very close by & lots of choice for the children. Happy all round!

This is a nice little cafe to visit for a drink - I can't speak for most of the food nor the ice cream, but the drinks we had were lovely. The cafe is clean enough, with plenty of tables and seating available. The chocolate cake is nice enough, especially considering the price. The deluxe hot chocolate is absolutely gorgeous - sweet, tasty. and smothered in cream. There aren't many vegan options, but the same is true for most of Burnham. I feel like Fortes has probably been the same for the last 30 years, and will be the same into perpetuity. This is both a good and bad thing. Overall, I highly recommend visiting for the deluxe hot chocolate alone!

Went in for an ice cream, machine not turned on until Easter apparently, so no soft whippy ice cream.

They don't pay attention when it comes to orders, they charged me for the wrong order (both mine and my friends drink) and when I requested a refund and the receipt for what I had they said that they can't go back on previous orders and I will have to deal with the money difference with my friend. Very very poor customer service and rude attitude coming from the owner which seem that she couldn't be bothered at all when she realised that I was foreign. I will never go there again as they made me feel bad and they treated me differently. As someone with a lot of experience in customer service I feel like this person owning the place and some of her staff don't really care about their customers. The place is quite expensive as well and not worth for what you get.

Visited Fortes restaurant Burnham on sea with family all very much enjoyed our meals. Food was lovely,good value for money good service and didnt wait long for meals. Would definitely return again.

Yes, Forte's is a little gem of a cafe with a very wide selection on the menu. This time my friend chose steak baguette, chips, cole slaw, all with cheese sprinkled on top! It looked absolutely delicious and my friend confirmed it was as good as it looked! I had cod, chips, and peas which were really fabulous, the cod in large moist flakes done in perfect batter. Toilets are pristine! And this cafe is really inexpensive! So it has our Highly Recommended review!

myself and husband decided to stop at this cafe for some breakfast as we were on our way to Cornwall for a few days and as it wasn't the nicest of days we have had many breakfasts at this cafe and the place is always nice and warm and food hot but on this morning the cafe was freezing!! we sat there with our coats on we ordered food which when it come out the beans were cold eggs were cold the only thing that was hot were the mushrooms!! I understand business are struggling with energy coats but really isn't nice to expect people to sit in freezing cafe please consider putting the heating on !!!

Had the large mixed grill been having this for a long time today egg cold sausage cold steak cold and full of grisle not good at all did mention about the steak on my way out time for a change

Visited Burnham and needed a quick stop to grab a hot drink and use the loo and this was the nearest place to us. We were impressed with the menu so decided to stop for lunch. Although I wasn't keen on the canteen style service, would much rather order at the table, the staff were lovely and friendly. Food was of a good standard. We will be back to try one of the sundaes which looked good value for money.

Came here for breakfast, got the full English. Amazing food, loved that they had tatties (Fried potatoes)! Portions were fantastic! Staff are always friendly and the restaurant is very clean. Would definitely return!

Yet again chose this cafe over any other in Burnham. Have visited over several years with the grandchildren. Obliging and pleasant staff. Good choice of food. Can't fault. Highly recommended.

Usually have lunch here when visiting Burnham but very unhappy to see five or six wandering around without a mask inside and unchallenged. Won't come again for a while because of this.

Chaotic and slow. They really need to look at the food order system. Every one has to queue at the counter to order, with one girl struggling to cope. Called here Thursday morning 10th Sept 2020 and managed to get a seat outside in the sun. Good range of drinks and food and at a good price. Would certainly go again. Staff were very friendly

We visited when taking a break in Burnham on Sea for a couple of hours. Just wanted two mugs of tea and a pack of sandwiches between us. My friend found a table and i joined the social distancing queue before I reached the sandwiches I saw a bowl of chips being served so that was it we enjoyed a very good mug of tea and bowl of chips!

Visited yesterday for lunch food was lovely , panini , apple pie , chilli hot dog , lattes were spot on , staff friendly , good value, will visit again

Can’t praise this place enough! Staff are always friendly and eager to accommodate to your every need. Food was delicious as always, I had the lasagne served with chips, garlic bread and a large salad garnish, my brother opted for the full breakfast which he said tasted as fantastic as it looked! Looking forward to my next visit :)

Enjoyed a family meal at Fortes. Good service and food was value for money. A good varied menu with meals brought to the table.

I have spent many a happy lunch hour in this cafe and spent a lot of money here but no more ! Since lock down the food and the service has deteriorated so much .Last week my husband and I went for lunch I had the beef pie which was actually minced beef and not the best quality mince at that , I started to eat it and the bottom pastry was raw and totally inedible, I returned it to the lady at the till who took it off me and said she would tell them ! No apology so today we thought we would try again ! Big mistake I ordered the place and asked if I could leave the chips off and have a salad , the lady said yes and as it came with a salad garnish I was surprised that this put the price up as I had not had the chips , anyway out came a piece of place dripping in fat and not even coloured during cooking and a very sad dry salad no dressing at all so I asked the lady if could have some coleslaw, she went away and a very rude guy who I guess is the owner came out and told me yes if you pay for it ! I had already paid extra for a dry salad , even mayonnaise had a price tag , What has happened to basic customer service? I informed him I wouldn’t be back and he just laughed and said fine by me .There are many cafes in Burnham my advice is give this one a miss

Went in for lunch today after giving them a second chance from a previous visit last week. Both visits were appalling. Last week I had Cottage Pie which comprised a mixture of poor quality, tasteless, minced beef mixed with baked beans ( ? ) and a concoction of other things not meant for cottage pie, in my experience. Today, it was beef chilli con carne and a dry salad, with no dressing. The quality was no better than last week. To go with it, was staff who were not interested in any form of customer service or interaction. The manager/ owner was not interested in any form of dissatisfaction to the point of being surly and rude.Certainly would not give them my business again.One place to steer clear of.

Went out with my partner for an ice cream today, was delicious! Was also great to see they have the right measures in place due to the current pandemic. Made sure we weren’t in an unsafe distance from other customers and staff! Only open for takeaway food as not allowed to sit in because of the virus but can see they really have tried there best to still serve customers :)

Fairly good meals but the poorest most expensive Bacon sandwich in Burnham. Toilets not the best in town .

Visited here late one day in half term after taking kids to the assessments on the front.Even though they were closing for the day, the staff were nice and friendly. We had some nice ice creams that were not over priced for a sea front town. The cakes looked great and the hot drinks look well priced compared to large chains. The main menu looked interesting and not over priced. Eg burgers £9 and under.

Popped here for a coffee and cake with my family. The staff were very friendly and polite. The cakes we had were very nice and the coffee was very good.Was disappointed to go in to the toilets with my two month old girls to find no baby changing facilities anywhere. It was just lucky in the men's there was a small shelf u could change her on.

Counter staff were quite young. I remember Mr Forte whom I had known for years. We ordered a knickerbocker glory but the make up of it had changed, not so good. They need training how to do it traditionally. Barehand handling of food, then handling money, no protective headware, very bad practice (H & S). We will not be visiting Fortes in Burnham on Sea again. Just seen a review from Lorac35 regarding the table clearer - quite agree.

I took my children in for ice cream. They had a great variety of ice cream. We opted for small cones and the portions were a really good nice and good value for money. The seating area is very big and easily found somewhere to sit even on a busy, sunny day. The staff member that served us for happy and smiley. It's not our first visit to Fortes and certainly won't be our last

Thought I would give this place another try after 4 yrs and met a friend there for lunch, big mistake.

Visited with a party of six on a busy Saturday lunch time. Despite being very busy, the service was efficient, friendly and quick. The meals were very good, especially as we had 2 fussy young 'nippers' with us.

Called in here for lunch, I had the roast chicken lunch which was very generous, lots of meat and the vegetables were fresh and tasty. My husband had the lasagne which was also very good. the staff were friendly and helpful and the prices very reasonable. The cakes and desserts looked fantastic but I couldn't manage one after my lunch!

Great ice cream sundaes, very reasonably priced...real, fresh, whipped dairy cream on top (I asked and they showed me the unwhipped cream)(...not squirty can stuff) - hurrah for proper cream, good dairy ice cream, sundaes and knickerbocker glories!

We have been coming to burnham on sea for 30 years now. This year we are staying in minehead but we wanted a forte breakfast this morning so drove the near 40 miles.

Although a nice place with plenty of room but service needs work as service staff were not friendly or flexible when I changed my mind about one of the ice creams, I initially ordered a banana split but the bananas were green which would have upset my digestion, so instead order a mint ice cream but when it came to pay they were trying to charge us for the banana splits which we never received due to changing the orders

I came here on my birthday as me and my bf were stopping in Brean. I had a chocolate nut sundae and my bf had an ice cream soda. Both were delicious and the staff were very friendly.

Visited Fortes last week for an afternoon treat. The beautiful puddings we had were amazing. Not overpriced either. Well worth a visit.

Hi i came to your place 2day Sunday 26/05/2019 we normally come and have a mixed grill which is always good but 2day we came and when it was put on the table I was a bit shocked that my steak had already been cut up as I would do for my 5 year old grandson.

A nice walk and an ice cream is needed, stumble across Fortes with an array of flavours and types of ice cream,

Nice place to eat, very roomy and comfortable. Staff nice - they have some home-cooked items and we had the apple pie and ice cream for afternoon tea, which was lovely. The pie was the best we have had for ages - but the ice cream portions were a bit skimpy....

The two of us visited purely because Wetherspoons was shut for a refurb. We were served by a gorgeous young lady who was very polite and helpful. The menu has a good selection of food and drink.

Moved to burnham dec found a little gem hear breakfast the way you would want it to be we are regular s now very nice staff and food thanks

We have been to this cafe before and we desided to go in for a late breakfast it was quite busy but it was bank hoilday we found a table and went up to order food two breakfasts and two teas had to wait a bit but it wasn't a problem seating outside was busy only thing was the tables had not been cleared and seagulls were having a feast on the left overs ! so we were glad to be in doors other than that it was nice

The food was nice after that we tried to use the toilet. I am disabled and they had a disabled toilet. but it was closed the sign was on the door. at this point I am in a narrow corridor wanting the toilet. I reluctantly used the women’s- which was embarrassing and degrading for me and others wanting the toilet. the men’s was in use.

We had on a previous visits had ice creams and been happy so decided to try the food we asked if we could have two cheese and ham salad baguettes only to be told we could have steak and onion baguette or a ham and cheese ploughman’s with a baguette which we found strange as all the ingredients were available but not to make our request maybe the chef was incapable of making two baguettes and was only able to microwave ready put up meals from what we saw if you like ice cream ok but would not recommend for anything else.

don't go to fortes if you are disabled as the disabled toilets have been broken since last year and the nearest one is on the sea front

we had 3 hot drinks all lovely 2 full english breakfast both cold and served on cold plates. when complained to waitress didnt even get an apology. over all opinion would not recommend to any one for breakfast.

I haven't eaten in here but called in for a drink on the way to Torquay and again on our way home

Over the years the fortes cafe was many things, a haunt for the elderly, a place with a smelly toilet, dull and ugly, with slightly overpriced food and basically an over-priced greasy spoon. BUT not anymore....

Great snacks as well as lovely ice creams. Pop in for a coffee or a meal. Opposite main car park just off the sea front

Beef pie with potatoes and three veg or chips and peas. The pie looked fabulous but rather than the pieces of meat I was expecting it contained fairly tasteless mince and some very pale and over cooked vegetables. The chips were pale and limp and smothered in gravy. The gravy was the tastiest thing on the plate but never in Somerset have I been served chips and gravy. Yuk! At least I had plenty of room for the ice cream which was good.

I had heard some good reviews about this restaurant and was slightly disappointed. We both had scoops of ice cream in a cone and for me the flavour was very strong and had lumps of ice in it. For the price I didn't think it was value for money.

Reminds me of when I was a kid on holiday. Lovely food , service and delicious ice creams in very clean surroundings and friendly staff.

As frequent visitors to Fortes was sad to have a meal where our fish wasnt cooked properly, as a piece of frozen fish I'd guess it hadnt been cooked long enough. Shame.

Having just ordered an ice cream sundae I decided to visit the ladies toilets to wash my hands before eating only to find that the only water available was from a cold tap ! Come on people you are serving food here you can at least provide hot water it’s 2018 for god sake !!! People could not was there hands properly after visiting the toilet sorry but won’t be back in a hurry

My companion and I had lunch here. He had the full breakfast which he enjoyed. I had cheese panini with salad, cole slaw and chips. All generous portions. We would have enjoyed our food a whole lot more if it hadn't been so noisy with uncontrolled kids running around and screaming and bashing into my chair (they were at the table right behind ours - trust me to sit there!). It was quite crowded so there wasn't much choice of alternative seating! Many other people were annoyed, too. Anyway the food was OK,, the staff friendly, and I'm not sure what could be done about unruly children when the parents don't seem to notice the disruption they are causing.

I've visited this restaurant many times over the years and it is always a pleasant experience. The food is very nice, comes in perfectly-sized portions, and at a reasonable price. The food is mostly traditional English food, but there is nothing wrong with simple classics done well. My only complaint would be the teaware, as there is something wrong with the spouts which makes the tea and milk spill everywhere. It is not a terrible issue, though, and doesn't detract from the overall quality.

Nothing special here that would make me visit again. There was nothing badly wrong just a combination of little things that detract from the overall experience. Coffee was ok but the cakes were a bit dry.

We visited this cafe a couple of times and were pleasantly surprised with the layout which was comfortable and nicely furnished. This seems to be very popular and we had the all day breakfast - not too shabby except for the eggs that were overcooked, I expect next time they will be great.
