Foresters Arms in Wigan

Very disappointed in Sunday lunch today ,the food came cold, no flavour in anything, no vegetarian choice in with the Sunday roast and it was served on cold bowls not plates.

Stopped off on the journey back home from the lake district. Picked this place at random from google maps. What a good decision dog friendly and the food was amazing. Will be making notes for future trips this way. Prices good too.

Called in for a drink but managed the 3 small plates, food was really good.We really enjoyed our visit will call again

Popped in at the weekend as passing and we both fancied a quick bite to eat. Food was exceptional with a specials menu being offered on Saturday lunch along with my wife having the Cock & Bull. Staff were very friendly and provided really good service. Pub was well decorated and clean and tidy. Fantastic local pub and Will definitely be back

I don't like complaining as it is but I think some warning may be needed for this one. The service was good, nothing to complain about there. I ordered the seafood platter that was suposed to come with both calamari and squid chunks. The server came back and said they didn't have the calamari so it would be replaced with more squid chunks, i said that was fine. It came and there where 3 squid chunks on the plate. Didn't complain and just started eating we had already been waiting for abit anyway. I went to use the vinegar and there where 7 fruit flies dead in the bottom of it. At this point I completely lost my appetite. The server was great about the entire thing and offered a refund on my meal. We wont be going back as its completely put me off. This review is more a warning to if you do decide to go, please check everything you are about to use on your food. Otherwise you might be in for a nasty suprise.

New chef in town came a few days ago and it was fantastic, an English version of tapas is available, 3 plates for £16 include mini pies etc all dishes attached are the tapas style mini plates. Sunday roast next visit!

Called in for a drink didn't have any food - nice place

Just a couple of minutes drive from the motorway. Excellent lunch. The lite bite portions were very generous. Lovely to have a nice meal and a proper break before continuing our journey. Will be back.

Only nipped in for a drink. Nice pub. Bar staff we're friendly. Will visit again when in the area again.

Stopped going because of the erratic food quality , recent posts on their page shows it hadn’t improved and instead of trying to encourage me back they’ve blocked my ability to offer constructive criticism.

Good place for a stopover on drive north. Only 2mins from M6 and much better food and price than stopping at services. Very good value set menus

Burger was dry and cold ,a blob of cold mozzarella on top then hot bacon, waited an hour for this ,it wasn't busy 4 tables plus the one I was on ,a table behind ours sent there food back because it was cold ,I should have left then ,save leaving this review, being a chef myself I know how it works this industry, this was awful and wouldn't recommend to anyone

Lovely pint and a lovely meal on dinner hour

Called today and was very impressed with the service and also the quality of the food. Staff were very courteous and very attentive, will be calling again with the rest of the Family so they can experience it.

Our first time here we was disappointed with the food I had the beer battered fish, chips & side portion of peas the fish was so so strong it put me off from the start i ate some of it, my hubby had the gammon & chips he enjoyed his but the portion sizes are quiet small especially for a man. The place its self was really nice & the staff wer lovley couldn't do enough for you. One thing we liked was it was dog friendly. We will go back but only for snacks & drinks unfortunately. I'm vegan/vegetarian they had 1 vegan meal which was a vegan risotto which i didnt fancy, i thought I'd give the fish a try wish I hadn't now, vegi options as I cud see was cheese pie & veggie burger.

the food is not tasty (I ordered toast with shrimp and salmon, the shrimp were very cold, and the avocado sauce looked like mayonnaise with a drop of avocado... The lunch menu only includes sandwiches, salads and 1 soup...

Excellent every time and as a local we come in here a lot. Definitely recommended.

We went today for a quick lunch and wouldn't go back. The entire place smelled of grease, we sat near the fire which was being held in place with a takeaway food container and being sat right near the kitchen door wasn't the best. The smell of grease is pretty horrid throughout and the microwave ping was heard alot, along with bell chime for meals ready, The starter was nice, mushroom bruschetta, but the side sald had black lettuce parts that had gone off and that wasnt fresh to say the least, the mains for both of us were awful. Sunday roast with beef for my partner, he was asked if he wanted pink or darker beef, he asked for pink, he didn't get this he got what we can only descrbe as beige beef.. . The mash was microwaved and ridiculously hot in certain parts, the Yorkshire pudding was doughy and more bread like and gravy was very minimal. I had the vegan burger, it was sat in salsa, smothered and literally dripping in salsa and was inedible. Yes I told both waitresses when asked, the first ignored this and literally didn't acknowledge the comment and walked away then she avoided taking our plates. The second asked if everything was okay and I said the burger was inedible the salsa was way too much leaving everything soggy, the bread fell apart and couldn't be held and had no guacamole on it as advertised, she said she would speak with the chef but obviously didn't and was still charged for everything, The place is a little grubby, one waitress is nice enough and was happy to tip her but the other who brought the food was rushing and not interested at all. Overall we really wouldn't go back,

Managed to squeeze me and my partner in on mother's day of all days, we had a set menu and it was reasonably priced, the food was absolutely lovely, staff very helpful. Would love to go back one day if I'm still working in the area, my 7 month old son also enjoyed the odd few bits off our plate too, thank you.

Well, what a great way to lose long standing customers.... Aware that the pub is under new management, we called in today for their new lunchtime menu. The blackboard outside states that it is served 12 until 2.30pm everyday except Sunday. We arrived at exactly 2pm, to be told by the polite girl behind the bar that they had stopped serving lunch, but that we could come back in a couple of hours for the evening menu if we liked....the girl even checked with the kitchen, but the answer was the same. We have spent thousands over the years in this place, in its various management's and name changes, but no more. If today was an example of the new regime's attitude to customer service, then I can't see them being around for too long. If we'd have trucked up at 2.29pm or something, then I could understand, but this was poor. Still, plenty of other options in the vicinity.

Booked this pub as it was near the motorway when we were travelling south. Lovely home cooked food, good sized portion, staff were friendly and service was quick. Great deal on a Sunday, 2 courses for just under £20.

Second visit for me, but first since new owners took over, it is still fantastic, chose the beer battered fish, with hand cut chips and mushy peas, simply delicious 😋 well cooked, superbly present and ... well brilliant. Thanks Guys n Gals 👍

Absolutely amazing Sunday dinner and deserts. We had lamb dinners and roast beef dinners with amazing deserts for £20 pp. HIGHLY recommended

Had the mushroom starter and the cheese pie. The food was delicious. Staff friendly and attentive. Dog friendly. They even had a doggy menu which my dog loved. It looked delicious, I could have ate it myself 😂. The chicken and veg in the photo was the dogs.

Visited afew times and always had great food and great service.

We went as a family to this pub and to be honest the only thing that was good was the post mix coca cola 🤣 We ordered three roast dinners and they were awful, the Yorkshire puddings tasted like and looked like bread rolls and the meat was chewy, the soup was very watery, the mash was tasteless, the vegetables was overcooked and the roast potatoes were rubbery. Definitely will not be visiting this pub again and I would not recommend.

Really disappointed after my last visit which was fantastic. Saw a roast advertised on Facebook so went to try only to be told not available on Sunday despite it being advertised 2 days previously. Was then forced to have the 2 course for £19.50 menu , a big difference but I ordered just before 12:30, once of the first to do so. Several other tables where then seated and shortly after taken orders. Time now ticked on and as I awaited my main I was disappointed to see several starters come out including the table next to me who arrived 10 mins after I had ordered. After nearly 35 mins waiting in a less than half full pub I was ready to walk out when my main appeared at the same time as the next table. The size was really disappointing especially since my last visit & on a £19.50 two course menu. The food was decent but a poor portion size & not once was I approached asking if everything was ok. After this I ordered a dessert and waited another 15 mins while the table next to me departed ( 2 adults 1 child served 2 courses after arriving 15 mins after me ) So an hour had passed when my dessert arrived and the Bakewell slice I found to be hard and dry, again never asked if everything was ok. A really disappointing meal after my previous visit & £25 lighter

Cancelled my Christmas Day Lunch reservation for 7 adults, never notified us STILL have our deposit. NO REASON FOR CANCELLATION, .ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING.

Brilliant local pub. The Landlord is welcoming and so friendly. The food is quality pub grub and plentiful. The quality of the cask beer is really good, it is obvious that the lines are cleaned regularly. I love the atmosphere, though perhaps not everyone's cup of tea as it is dog and child friendly, but for us that adds to the atmosphere, and fellow Wiganer's are so freindly! The staff are brilliant, so welcoming and efficient. We love it!

Super impressed with this little gem. The staff are very welcoming and the menu is amazing. Lots of choices. You get plenty of food and all excellent quality. Well done “ the foresters arms” will definitely be visiting again.

Without doubt the best pub meal I’ve had for a long time, I had the winter warmer sizzler on a Wednesday, a different deal each day , and it was delicious. I ordered the chicken & steak with peppercorn sauce, served with rice & chips & the portion size was easily enough for two. Loads of succulent chicken & steak slices cooked perfectly, the sauce perfectly adding moisture & taste. I managed to eat it all, just , and the last mouthful was as delightful as the first. Can’t wait to revisit 👍

Another great visit here, the food is always amazing and the staff so helpful. I had won a voucher for money off so used that on this visit.

Had lunch here today with my daughter Fish chips peas tartar sauce followed by jam sponge and custard Very nice Full up, no appetite for tea (dinner to southerners) Nice atmosphere, we even played 2 of the games from the box (both adults).

Great quality food really fresh and tasty and lots of choice on the menu. They have offers on everyday. Great place to eat and relax.

Very disappointed with our experience at the Foresters. We got off to a bad start with the drinks before the meal my wife was given a lukewarm cup of tea which had to be changed I wanted a cask ale but was informed only lagers on draught. We ordered chicken dinners the chicken was tasteless except for burn from the grilling. My wife couldn’t eat her meal and complained to the waitress and the manager although I did eat mine I certainly didn’t enjoy it. My wife sent her meal back eating very little of it I was still charged full price for her meal not wanting to cause a scene or get involved in an argument I paid the bill and left we will definitely not be returning again.

Had a really nice lunch with my Auntie staff very good, the food is cooked fresh and very tasty

Sad to see the demise of a once, great eatery, rushed (but pleasant) service. Our food was very poor, certainly not fresh, re-cooked, deep fried, thick, hard, brown batter. No pride whatsoever!

What a find. We were waiting to pick people up and came across The Foresters by chance not really I found it and had pre booked it. It was very noisy when we arrived, there was football being watched. The bar was chockablock with people but the waitress got our table ready quickly. The match finished shortly afterwards. When our arrived OMG. There was minted mash with carrots and parsnip slices mangetout and broccoli. The mound of mash was crowned with a lamb shank and a huge Yorkshire Pud and of course lashings of gravy. It was the best and I mean it the best ever pub roast I've ever had. I did tell the manager when I saw him. For dessert we both had sticky toffee pud, that was delicious because it didn't taste of bi-carb which it often does. Pity we don't live closer otherwise we'd be going back. Beautiful meal.

Best pie of my life! And I grew up in Wigan. Lovely atmosphere and people running it. Dying to try more dishes. The wooden bench was a little creaky so every time the kids behind me moved and jumped, it knocked mean which was annoying. That’s the only thing I can fault.

Great food, Sunday roasts and fish and chips and fantastic service as usual !! Will be back very soon!!

Cracking local,delicious food and a good pint.

We won a Voucher at a McMillan Fundraising Event for here back in February and decided to use it this evening. We just chose a main course, both went for the Burger with bacon, gherkins, cheese, salad etc, it was tasty, also was accompanied with fries, coleslaw and onion rings. Very enjoyable, would certainly recommend.

Great food, piping hot, well presented and plentiful portion. Service is great and reasonable waiting time for service

After following on Facebook I booked a table for 13 people (a birthday ) only booked table day before and it wasn’t any trouble, day after the lovely owner rang and explained its football night and a small pub and had I been I hadn’t so he sent pictures of where our tables where which is going above and beyond really already was very friendly From coming in to leaving the staff Friendly, helpful just a real credit then to top it off the FOOD was amazing honestly this is a hidden treasured pub amazing honestly then met the owner lovely guy thank you will see you soon thank you

Very cosy pub with two sides, the bigger one is devoted to dining (seems popular and the food does look good) whilst drinkers congregate on the tiny bar side. A couple of TV screens for the sport but very limited space, it could get very cramped in here at busy times. The staff are very friendly and efficient and the locals will chat to anyone - proper community pub. Usually 2 or 3 local real ales.

Great food.....my partner had steak and I had pie.......both were well cooked with lots of sides......food was piping hot and really good value. Big portions too. Will be back.

What a great pub. We were travelling up from Birmingham to the Lake District and stopped off at the Foresters Arms. The staff and punters were so welcoming. The food was top quality and seriously good value. Highly recommend this venue.

We’ve eaten here regularly for the past couple of months. Food is excellent, and consistently so. A varied menu and excellent value for money. Staff are really friendly. Conscientious without being in your face. Restaurant is warm and inviting, meaning you can relax and enjoy the experience. (Unlike somewhere also local to us who failed to have the heating on 😱🥶)

We had two courses for £15 each and Jazzie our dog totally loved it, when our meal arrived, Jazzie’s surprise was a bowl of doggy biscuits a lovely surprise for her. We both had the pie meals which were very nice too, though seeing mine was the steak pie Jazzie was 👀 at the steak 😂 Great staff, awesome customers, make you feel very welcome, people are great to talk to. The pub itself is very welcoming and cosy, dining to the right, chilling and relaxing with a nice cosy fire in the other room to the left. All in all a real nice pub with friendly people and awesome food. Highly Recommended 👌

My husband , daughter and I came for a meal here . The staff are so friendly and welcoming. Two of us had the fish and chips and one had the cock and bull .The food was fantastic ,good size portions , well presented and tasted delicious.Good value for money .Would definitely recommend and will be returning soon .

Went for a drink but Kayla talked us into eating from the bar menu which was great Kayla and lacy made us feel so welcome it was brill such well manoured hosts will definitely return Kayla made a lattee that u can’t get anywhere else it was the best We will be bk soon

Nice cosy pub/restaurant, busy but that's because it's a popular place, went for the Sunday set menu 3 courses £22 which is a good deal. There is enough choice for everyone to pick something they like. Plenty of staff waiting on who were nice and helpful, food arrived in a timely manner and presented well Food was filling however felt like it was just missing something for that 5/5 Pint prices not too bad either, very reasonable prices Would tell people to give it a try

Typical English pub with good hearty food. I had the home made chicken and mushroom pie, which was delicious. Nice homely feel to the place, the only negative was the dogs, which are allowed and in the eating area so we spent the whole meal listening to a whingeing wineing dog, which wasn't good. Overall though a really good meal and would definitely return.
