Absolutely fantastic meal! The staff were very welcoming, friendly and accommodating. The food was enjoyed by all, and they have a great range of vegetarian options. Everyone throughly enjoyed their meal and the littlest guest was given a colouring/activity sheet on arrival. We can’t wait to come back, especially in the summer as the garden looks beautiful!

Haven't been here for a while, but thought I would give it a go tonight. Service was friendly as ever ( and I reckon this is the best asset this pub/ restaurant has) but a little slow considering the restaurant only had about a dozen diners.Bizarre system seemingly in place to let front of house staff know food was ready with someone just shouting raucously from the kitchen and hoping someone would hear!Food nice, but average. Garden peas on meal tasted fine, but looked steamed to death.Think the place needs a makeover as locally similar restaurants in Liphook, Bordon and Farnham do the same sort of thing, but probably a bit better at the moment.

20 of us descended on the Forest Inn for a family birthday. From the off, the staff were welcoming and helpful, they had reserved us a large area so we had plenty of room to mingle, and kids to move around - also within easy reach of the small soft play area so the adults could sit and chat, but still fully check on the little ones. Food was good, and served in very good time considering how many of us there were; and again the staff were chatty and smiley throughout! A very relaxed and thoroughly enjoyable evening.

The whole experience was abismal. I ordered the double burger and my wife ordered the roast chicken. (She was going to have beef, but suprise. No beef) the roast was revolting. 3 quarters of roast potato, a teaspoon of peas. No mash and the "roast" chicken was just a well done chicken breast. Not a roast dinner at all. The burger that i had tasted bland. The portion of pulled pork that i got on it was an insult. Also the Jalepenos bites were undercooked, the batter was soggy and cold. The waitress didnt care at all and made a snide remark about the portion sizes after we complained. This "Pub" is in dire need of replacement in management as it is clear that it is being run into the ground. AVOID.

We visited here while passing through, the place was nice inside, clean. Food was average, we had burgers but they were pretty dry and the dessert we had said it had 'soft cookie pieces' but felt like we were eating bricks! We didn't have to wait long for the food to come out from the kitchen which was good, but all the staff were sitting down at a table chatting and not serving behind the bar very efficiently. It was good value for money but improvements to be made.

This is a really good place for a meal at a very reasonable price. On a Sunday lunchtime it was busy with families enjoying a good meal. Children are well catered for and the staff are friendly. We got our meal in less than 10 minutes - a roast children lunch. Good sized portions and very tasty. £13 for two lunches and two drinks! It's not posh and not a place to go for a special meal perhaps, but a huge choice on the menu which means that there's surely something for everyone's taste. No loud music but if you don't like young families and children and the background noise you are bound to get with this clientele don't go!This place deserves to succeed and if you are happy with good value food and don't demand a special ambience this can be highly recommended.

I was completely appalled by what happened when we visited. We ordered and paid for a round of drinks which cost over £10 (and were not worth being there for drinks alone), we had been unsure of what food to order initially but had all decided just as the lady at the bar had finished serving our drinks. As there was a couple waiting to be served and only one member of staff behind the bar we decided to take the drinks to the table and come back to order so they did not have to wait longer. We then came back to the bar to order almost immediately, by this time there was 3 girls waiting to order food also. These girls were half way through ordering food when a chef came out to tell the lady at the bar to stop the order and not to take any more food orders as they finding themselves backed up and running out of plates. I would like to point out that the pub was more than half empty, while I can appreciate that the kitchen staff had likely had a busy day with food, they should expect this at a place that supposedly prides itself on being a good quality family establishment. The way the chef conducted himself left my family and I absolutely appalled. The lady at the bar asked them to accept the order of the 3 girls and our food order as she knew we were there for food with young children, to which the chef continued being rude and adamant that no more food orders be taken for the next hour before walking off. I felt sorry for the lady at the bar just to be left with telling us we couldn't be served any food for at least over an hour which was just unreasonable for us to wait with young children. We have been to eat here numerous times before but after this we will not be returning and I will be insistent that no one I know should go either!

It's alarming to see so many negative reviews as my husband and I had a very pleasant experience. We visited at around 3.30-4pm so not peak time. We were greeted warmly by bar staff immediately. We ordered from the 2 for £10 deal. We are both vegetarian and found there was plenty of choice. I had the Mexican burger, he had burritos. Both meals were very nice, hot and a decent portion size. We ordered dessert, my first choice had sold out but my second choice was very nice. They had run out of vanilla ice cream so my sundae and his choice both had extra helpings of the other flavours our desserts were supposed to have. The staff also offered us a free drink as compensation. We both had just bought refills so they gave us a refund on those drinks instead. I have to say that the staff were exceptionally attentive and helpful. Both staff we dealt with were young, enthusiastic women who were willing to help provide a positive experience for us, which we commented on during our journey home. This is one reason I am shocked to see so much negativity here. I can't speak for busy times of day when inevitable errors often occur in a busy pub but we can only judge what we experienced this week and that was positive. Thank you to the staff who made us most welcome.

There are only three staff when we were there so thank god it wasn't busy. This might explain the previous comments about issues. Though all staff were friendly, curtous and double checked everything including the bill. The play areas (one soft play inside and out) are fine for such a small pub in the fayre and square brand. Also due to being small the inside play area was free. All precious issues noted above have been resolved. Though with any play area it is the parents responsibility and not the business to look after children. For a pub that relies upon bird world, locals and alice holt patrons I think they did well.

I'd been recommended this place by a friend, but looking at the reviews on here it nearly put me off. A while later happened to be in the area so popped in one weekday lunchtime when it was quiet. I agree with other reviewers that the tables could do with more wiping as they are very sticky, however the food and service was not so much of a let down as I was expecting from other reviews. This could perhaps have been down to it being a lunchtime rather than evening meal though. The menu is quite wide ranging and reasonably priced, with all the usual pub favourites plus a selection of other meals available. It has a children's play area, but not having kids I can't comment on what it is like. It does mean you do get the odd excitable kid running between their table and the play area through the pub which could get annoying.

As always on Trip Advisor one can only write about your own experience on the day. I visited with my daughter and 4yr old grandson on Tuesday 28th July 2015 for lunch. I have never been here before and I had not looked at any reviews until now. I was surprised to see such poor reviews. We were greeted warmly by a member of staff and when we asked for a quiet table away from the "noisy" area, she was very happy to oblige. The menu was varied and interesting also the children's menu met with my grandson's approval ! The prices were reasonable too. The pub was busy but not packed. Our drinks and our food order were taken fairly quickly. Everything we ordered was delivered in what I would call normal time slots. We had burgers and the food was nicely presented and well cooked. The waitress came after about 5mins to ask if everything was OK which I consider good. Any staff we came into contact with were pleasant. The disabled/baby change toilet was clean. All in all I cannot complain about anything. We all had a most enjoyable lunch. Admittedly it was really noisy & busy in the children's play area but that was not where we were sitting so we were quiet, and really had an enjoyable lunch. I would go again and hope therefore that our next visit would be as good.

DANGEROUS FOR YOUNG CHILDREN!!! Very disappointed, been going there for years since it was Millers and not sure will ever go there again! Filthy tables, staff who cannot pour pints (have to do your own!), staff who cannot use a key to open baby change (had to change in garden!) and to top it all off a major health and safety issue! Having the indoor soft play area against a fire door which is normally shut and locked but this time didn't realise it was open and the zip from the soft play netting against the door was unzipped! This lead straight to outside and right next to their broken side gate which was open which led to the car park and busy main road! So if you children disappear and you don't know how as you are watching the soft play entrance / exit then search everywhere as they would of got out of the building through the little open zip and could poss be running around in the road!!!!!!!! The waitress came and welcomed us, then she took our order, service was a little slow, but it was Sunday lunchtime. He clearly had no training along with the majority of staff . One meal came after about 35 minutes than the other 5 30 minutes later ! Food was at best school dinner quality , frozen yorkshire puddings etc .I decided to go to the bar as I couldn't bear to wait for more drinks , the end of the bar was littered with dirty glasses ( overflowing ) . As I waited an older gentleman said I hope you are not in a hurry , as he had been waiting 10 minutes . There was no que and a member of staff busily pouring drinks for waitresses to take to tables , he never acknowledged me or the old gentleman . Eventually the manageress I think appeared and I explained how long the old man had been there , he then got served along with myself . Overall the food was poor , service abysmal , cleanliness poor . There needs to be experienced waiting staff , trained bar persons , a deep clean , the food needs sorting also . As we had taken relatives there it was embarrassing !Low and behold the only thing that was quick was the bill, I kid you not as soon as we asked for it , it literally arrived a minute later . It has been a couple of years since we came here, we used to come sporadically until the food and service got worse and we found much better places to go. Since then my parents have visited a couple of times on the way home from our house and said that its quite nice - wanting a cheap place to eat and for the kids to burn off some energy on a Sunday afternoon we chose to go here.Which we now regretIt has gone right downhill, it was in no way busy yet everything they did seemed to make out that there were the best and busiest restaurant for miles around. Our drinks order was taken but I wasn't quite ready for food so asked the waitress for 2 minutes.... 25 minutes later we had to get the attention of someone else to ask if our order could be taken. We ordered Chicago town pizzas for the kids... remember this....While the kids enjoyed the play area, we chatted... chatted some more.... watched friends of ours who walked in at the same time eat their starter... then their main, table next to us who ordered after us eat their food... eventually after an hour and 15 wait my partner asked to speak to the manager, she went to find out why we hadn't had our food (an hour and 15 for Chicago town pizzas.....) turns out our food was sent to a different table, when they said it wasn't our food it was returned to the kitchen and thrown away... then they were too scared to tell us what had happened?? TOO SCARED???? What so they were just going to leave us there all night waiting? Then when it did finally come out (90 minutes for a Chicago town pizza.. in that time I could have cooked 30) They had my partners order wrong, she asked the waitress 3 times for the lamb shank roast.. and that's not what she got, total joke. All of our mains were taken off of the bill which was a great gesture but sadly not enough to make us want to come back in a hurry

After booking a table on line and receiving a booking ref number via gmail, when we turned up they had no record of our booking, we had to wait 15 mins for a table, on sitting down we were pounced on for our food and drinks order making us feel very rushed. 45mins for starters to come out, not even finishing our starters they brought the mains out. My 6 year old had a child's roast chicken, the chicken was so dry and hardly any gravy. Myself and a friend had a roast chicken also and that was so dry, you could tell the mash wasn't home made and the roast potatoes were microwaved. Small amount of veg and gravy. Stuffing was hard as a rock. My partner and his friend both had the xxl burger, both suffering bad tummies the next day. We didn't stay for puddings.

As a grandmother with young grandchildren I always look for a child friendly pub if out and about with them. I was seriously disappointed in this pub. The staff are friendly and trying hard but are working against overwhelming odds, making the service very poor. It is a shame that the front line staff are on the receiving end for poor management practice. Shame on the company that puts them through this. When I walked in and noticed that the pub only had a 1 (major improvements required) from Food Standard Agency, I nearly walked back out but I had the thought that if they were under review presumably they would be ensuring everything was extra clean and safe. I could be fooling myself.Tables were left uncleaned for too long, food orders wrong or forgotten, orders mixed up. One hour wait between main and pre-ordered dessert for one child - which was inedible. Seriously get rid of the pancake or rethink the presentation, it was wet and sweaty and stuck to the plate - the only bit eaten was the topping. This makes it a very expensive throw away rather than good value for money. Shame on the management of this pub and shame on Fayre and Square. Maybe more pubs should negotiate a deal with a soft play company and get good outdoor play equipment installed as that is the only reason I and my friends go to these pubs – for the children. Fayre and Square you should be checking who is messing about with your reputation, whether you use paid managers or franchise – makes no difference if it is your name on the everything.

I came to your restaurant on Tuesday 9th June. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was good value for money and nicely presented. What I would say made the evening was the service. We were served by a lovely young waitress (Vicky) who went above and beyond to meet our requirements. She was very chatty and friendly towards our children too! All the stuff were well presented and welcoming too. I will be back.

I would give this 0 stars if I could! Horrendous place to eat. Used to always eat here but now the place has turned to ruin. The front of house staff are completely miserable and have no common sense AT ALL! The chefs came out of the kitchen frequently and looked in horrific condition, all looked ill and dirty. The food presentation was disgusting - my ice cream honestly looked like it had fallen on the floor and scooped back up and chucked on the plate. God awful. You can't even hear the people talking that you're with because of the indoor play area. The decor is dated and looks very shabby. Advice to you all don't eat here!

Although the food was very nice I have to say that we had to wait for ages for our food to come to the table. We have been to a few Fayre and Square restaurants and I must admit that the chip portions here are really on the small size. The staff do their best but there needs to be a lot more of them to make things run a lot smoother. Not sure if I would go back unless this was sorted out first.

This pub offers bar staff that can't serve, chefs that can't cook, food that is barely edible and waiting staff so void of social interaction I'd rather serve myself! I feel ashamed that I didn't turn around and walk straight back out again but the kids had already spotted the hoard of children enticing coin swallowing toy machines and we were trapped! The soft play corner was also appealing so we overlooked the sticky carpets and grimey windows and took a seat. After perusing a sticky menu we ordered. Both cold and burnt! Greasy but dry! Nowhere is worth the dirty feeling you have as you walk out. Even if it does have a play area!!!

And the filthy windows! The play area is good, if not rather dirty. My 3 yr olds first meal was sent back as we had pink in the middle sausages!! Accompanied by 5 chips!!! All our meals were not at all great! I know you get what you pay for but other budget pubs do better for the same or less price! The staff were pretty poor too! I have driven past be fore but with a very hungry baby and 3 year old it looked as if we could grab a quick light lunch..............what a mistake. 60 minutes later having had to query what was taking so long out came 3 of the 5 ordered meals, all cold. Followed 10 mi nutes later by a medium well done steak that was barely blue,( uber rare), and no sign of meal 5 or the fries . At least the demand for full refund came through very quickly, perhaps because the manager wanted to get me out before I alerted more suckers to the disaster that awaited them if they dared to order.AVOID AT ALL COSTS AS THE SERVICE AND FOOD ARE AWFUL. I have visited many times over the last few years. Like the Hungry Horse in nearby Liphook, if you are expecting haute cuisine you will be disappointed. However if it good "Pub Grub" you are looking for, then it is just what you would expect. The roast chicken dinner is highly recommended for its simplicity, value and taste in my view. However an annoying thing that I have raised with the restaurant in the past is when the "go large" option is requested, I have found I have to remind the staff that this includes 2 x chipolata ""Pigs in Blankets" as they more often or not get forgotten. Tonight this happened again.I would rate this restaurant as being "Good" myself, but it is more than "Average" but not quite up to a "Very Good" rating

As we were a family we anticipated eating together, not in dribs and drabs. To top it all there were signs on the table requesting patrons to ask for a reward card, however, these were out of stock and we were informed that today's receipt could not be credited when the cards do come in, not impressed at all.

First things first we sat down and my bother found cutlery on the floor the cultury on the floor was actually cleaner then then cultery on the table which put us off our food straight away! When asking for clean cultery the waitress ignored me, I then managed to get hold of the same waitress who was so rude and grumpy didn't crack a smile the whole time we were there! Which defiantly made us not want to be there! Asked where our food was after 45 minutes was told it was just being dished up 15 minutes later still nothing we were told 3 times it was just being dished up! My mum at this point was ready to cancel food and go elsewhere!! We had pre booked a table and people that ordered after us were getting there food before us it was awful!! When we went to order our food not only had they ran out of our first choice but also our second. When we got our starters, they had ordered me the wrong thing - although onion rings do sound a little like potato skins.. When we got our main course it consisted of the most fatty bacon I have ever come across, thick white fat on every rasher of both of our main courses. It physically made me feel sick I couldn't even eat it, I had eaten two onion rings. After waiting for half an hour with a full plate wondering if a waitress was ever going to show up I decided to take it upon myself to find her instead. When I told her the issue she went to tell the manager who apparently is the chef aswell, I could hear their whole conversation and when the doors open I saw 2 young men what seemed to be laughing at the fact they hadn't cooked it properly. The manager eventually came out and refunded the amount of the main courses with a mere 'sorry' and 'sorry again' when he walked away. The service was poor, the food was disgusting I would suggest this place to your worst enemy, especially if they like beer that takes of vinegar....

Pop in here after a day out because we know that generally fayre and square are good pubs. After finding the least dirty table, it took ages to place our order - there was no queue. The roast dinner was obviously nuked to an inch of it's life and for some reason the adult fish and chips is smaller than the kids menu. But dessert once made came out cold. The kid didn't even know if the pie and custard was meant to be cold. He had to go and ask the chef what to do about it before coming out and taking it back to be changed. Changed meant reheated.

Booked for a group of 7 despite some mixed reviews on here. Restaurant has a very large menu with good prices. However, they seemed severely understaffed with only one (trainee?) guy behind the bar who was easily confused.... Only one server bringing food out. The food was quite slow in coming but that did not worry us too much as we wanted to chat. It would have been very frustrating if there had only been two of us and we wanted a reasonably quick lunch. Mine was quite cool and I sent it back, it was reheated with no problem. Whilst I was there I heard someone else give two meals back, one cold and one not cooked correctly. Apart from one, our food was OK. Desserts were especially good. I had to clear our two tables myself as the dirty plates were there for at least 30 mins. There was no apology from the server who eventually came over and took them away from the adjacent empty table where I had put them. I might go back again just to see if we were unlucky and it might be better next time. Then again, I might not......

7 of us arrived needing a table having not booked and they were very accommodating, they were extremely understaffed on the night, the lady serving at the bar managed to keep smiling although under a lot of pressure, we ordered a starter which was two combo's to share between the 7 of us, this arrived in reasonable time, but we waited and waited for our mains, after noticing that people that arrived after us were actually getting there food before us, we decided to ask why, and just as we thought, would you believe they had forgotten about our mains, they were very apologetic, and gave us deserts on the house, although we would rather not have had to wait for close on an hour before we got the main course, the food was nothing to write home about, but pretty much what to expect form this type of food chain set-up, the young waitress serving the food needs a bit of training in customer service, as she just tended to throw the plates of food on the table, no one came to ask if everything was ok with the food, and we had to query the bill as a beer which none of us had was on the bill.Would we go back? maybe we were just very unlucky on the night, so could be tempted to give it another try, as the staff generally although under pressure were very pleasant.

We have been going the Forest Inn for a long time and have always been more than satisfied. However my friend and I visited on Tuesday evening and I must say I was disappointed. Usually when the waitress brings your food she explains that they have a no hassle exchange if you are not satisfied, she didn't say anything about this just put our food down and left.I had a gammon steak and the only hot thing on the plate was the meat, my friend had an all day breakfast and again only the hash browns were hot. the waitress didn't return at any time when we were eating our meal which again was unusual. We were really hungry and did eat our meals but were not very happy. I also noticed that the portions were quite a bit smaller, I had a very small portion of chips and noticed that the breakfast came with only one round of toast instead of the usual two. When the waiter came to take our plates we did mention that we didn't like to make a fuss but didn't feel the meal was up to the usual standard, also explained that nobody had been near us the whole time we were eating. He was very apologetic and went to see the manager which resulted in us receiving free deserts. he was very friendly and helpful and an asset to the company. I have since talked to two friends who use the Forest Inn regularly and both said they had experienced cold meals and smaller portions. I hope that this is just a blip and that for all of us our next visit will be a better experience. My friend was visiting from Sailsbury and I had raved about the place so was a bit embarrassed.

My boyfriend and I went to Forest Inn on Sunday lunch time. It was not too busy, neither it was quiet. I was really surprised as judging by the reviews I read on here, I was not expecting anything amazing. I only had to wait about two minutes at the bar, food came out pretty quickly too (15-20 mins). I had full rack of BBQ ribs, my boyfriend had american platter. I like quite a lot of sauce, but as soon I asked if I can have a little bit more sauce, waitress came out with two pots of it - they really are not stingy. Portions are very large, food was really really good. It's amazing value for the money. The only thing my boyfriend mentioned is that his chicken was a little bit dry, but other than that, he really enjoyed his meal. I had nothing to complain about. We will definitely go again and again :) Another thing I would say - take people's bad reviews with a pinch of salt and read their reasons for bad reviews. Some people just love complaining :)

Having been here on a number of occasions previously I had high hopes....very disappointed. We arrived at 6pm on a Friday evening with our 2 sons in tow, it seemed to be around half full as we walked through to the garden. The play equipment has been changed, good for my 7yr old but not so for the 3yr old. It's primarily a series of nets which he struggled to get on, get around and get off. Around 6.30pm we decided to order 6 adult and 3 children's meals. I wasn't overly impressed with the menu. Eventually 2 burgers arrived but we had to wait almost 15mins for the remaining meals, no apologies given. I decided to get more drinks so headed to the bar, it took 15 mins to get served. There was only 1 lady serving drinks, and taking drink/food orders. She was polite enough and when I asked about staff, she told me several were off sick, leaving her on the bar and 2 bringing food out. She also commented "its not normally this busy!" I say again it was barely half full! Needless to say we didn't bother staying to order desert. The indoor soft play was a nice addition for those with young children but could be disruptive for those eithout, wanting a peaceful meal. The menu was not great, service was slow and management should take a serious look at staffing levels in future. 3 staff couldn't cope in a restaurant only half full??

We visited with the children for desserts (the kids LOVE the sharing desserts here!) which we do fairly regularly. We've never had a problem previously, however on this occasion the food took a long time to come considering there was only 3 other families in the entire venue (40 minutes for only 4 desserts), and we had to send one of the dishes back (warm cookie dough) as it was cold/frozen in the middle which was rather disappointing to say the least. Having said that the children enjoyed it as always and had a good time playing in the indoor softplay area so I'll put it down to a 'blip' and will definitely give it another go.

Having read some of the previous reviews regarding The Forest Inn I felt that I should actually write my second review of this restaurant. We popped in on Easter Sunday for a nice lunch and ordered the roast lamb dinners. The lamb was very good, plenty of it and we were asked how we would like it cooked. My husbands asked for med rare and mine well cooked. Both were cooked exactly as requested. Good selection of vegetables, extra gravy was provided on request. Puddings and coffees were just as good and out waitress made sure that we were happy.Yes there were children in the restaurant and some were running around but this is a family place and to be expected. There is a play area and its very popular with families, if you don't like kids in these places then it's simple so go there. The other thing to remember is that if you are not happy with your experience at this place then they have a no quibble guarantee. If your not happy then complain at the time and they are more than happy to make amends. All in all I would say that my visits have been positive and for the prices I would go again at anytime.

Absolutely desperate to find somewhere to eat with good basic pub food. Guildford has loads of different eateries / cafés / restaurants but all with a lack of gluten free dishes in spite of reviews. Then we found the Star Inn. Spot on! Ham, egg and chips and hunter's chicken. Just right for the occasion! The staff were friendly and welcoming and the pub has a pleasant atmosphere. It is in a very convenient situation at the foot of High Street.
