Forest And Vale Hotel in Ryedale

Just had dinner at the Forest and as usual it was absolutely first class , the service , the food, everything about it is top drawer ! We cannot recommend it enough for a pleasant meal or experience out!

Stayed here for a week with work. The hotel is traditional and the staff welcoming. My room was located on the ground floor next to the main road, it was a busy road and noisy so couldn’t have the window open. The room itself was fine, a bit dusty/cob webs but generally clean. It had a kettle, hair dryer and basic shower gel/shampoo in bathroom. Food and breakfast very expensive £16 for a cooked breakfast! There are lots of nicer place to eat in the town centre for much cheaper. The grounds are nice and parking was easy no matter what time of day. Pickering is a small but pleasent town.

Overall experience a most positive one. Excellent location to explore North Yorkshire; clean, comfortable accommodation. Staff most welcoming and attentive. Sizeable garden, such a pleasant and tranquil environment to sit and indulge in a drink or two. Food delicious, served fresh, hot and promptly. Ample car parking.

We had stayed last year as ideal place for the NYMR, Castle Howard and other places of interest. This time we stayed in n executive room with a view to the church spire, the secondary double glazing kept the road noise away. We stayed here not only for the siting and good parking, but also the food is great quality and quantity, there is plenty of choice in Pickering, but it's also well worth it to dine in. The staff are so friendly and accommodating, particularly Harri and the ever cheerful Gabi at breakfast whom I am sure puts a smile on every guests face

The Forest & Vale is located on the main round about in Pickering. The car park is spacious and located within east reach of the hotel. The hotel appears to have been an imposing Victorian villa in a previous life. The entrance hall and reception are friendly warm spaces staffed by kind and helpful people. To the right, as you enter the hotel, is the bar. It is clean and nicely decorated with high ceilings, perhaps a touch cool when we were there. Service is prompt and friendly. We stayed in Room 10 which is the deluxe room with four poster bed and bath. The room was lovely, tastefully decorated, clean with a comfortable bed and excellent shower. It was very quiet and cosy. We had dinner at the restaurant in the evening. The atmosphere in the restaurant, also used as breakfast room, wasn’t right. The room was too large, it lacked atmosphere. It gives “ let’s eat quickly and get out of here” vibes. Perhaps the old imposing fireplace could be reactivated, it needs something. Staff were fantastic, ever helpful. We had the fish and chips, not to be recommended. Too much batter around a small piece of fish and strangely tasteless chips.The day after we had the same at the Magpie in Whitby, what a difference. Perhaps, it was us, as the other guests, eating different foods, were tucking in enthusiastically. The highlight of my stay was breakfast. The kipper and black pudding deserve a Michelin commendation. It was without doubt the best combination of black pudding and kipper I have ever eaten. Bravo and thank you so much. Finally, the location of the hotel is superb. Close to shops and a short drive away from the glorious moor landscape, the drive to Whitby is a dream.

Hotel was very nice and has a lovely big free car park. It isn’t a cheap hotel to stay in but wanted to stay here to go on the NYMR which is a short walk away. Enjoyed our stay and breakfast was very nice although I would have preferred self service for things like fruit, cereal etc. You had to order everything at your table. Our room was on the ground floor and looked onto a wall and customers walked past from the car park so not ideal. Would stay again though.

Would highly recommend this hotel. We stayed in a Superior room, which was large with a garden view. The room was spacious and extremely comfortable. Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Great choice, quality ingredients cooked perfectly. The staff are most welcoming, friendly and a credit to the hotel. Cannot fault anything during our stay and will definitely be making a return visit very soon.

We visited the Restaurant of Forest & Vale Hotel in Pickering during our holiday in North Yorkshire. We were shown to a table for two by friendly staff upon arrival. We selected our food from the Menu and ordered drinks to go with the food. The food was served in good time and it had been well prepared and arranged nicely on plates. All in all we had an enjoyable Dining Experience and we have no hesitation in recommding this Restaurant to family members and/or friends.

I visited here with some friends. The ambiance of the place is excellent. The staff are brilliant, some how always being available, without been overbearing. We ate in the restaurant and the food was superb. I am already looking forward to returning again in the future.

Traditional hotel. Comfortable and warm. We had room 8 which was an executive room as part of a special offer. Bed was lovely and comfi We had dinner on the first night. Really well presented and tasty. Breakfast was amazing a large bowl of creamy porridge which I didn’t eat all of it. Bea s on toast fried egg again large portion Staff friendly couldn’t do enough. Dine at the Forest as often as we can and we are never disappointed, the food and level of service are 5* , if you are looking for superb food in traditional surroundings then this is the place to go , top marks all round !!!

Arrived 1 December 2022 and stayed 3 nights. No complaints. Large comfortable room. Good breakfast. Helpful staff. Plenty of car parking, and a good base for exploring surrounding area.

This hotel is amazing. It’s so welcoming and all the staff are so friendly. Just stayed for our Ruby Anniversary and they gave us a beautiful suite and complementary wine and Prosecco with our dinner. The food is 5* fine dinning quality, excellent choices and fair prices for the freshly cooked meals. The only thing that could make this hotel any better than the 5* quality it already is would be to offer cocktails as the Cocktail bar in Pickering has closed down. There is an extensive menu served lunch and dinner booking is recommended but they will accommodate where they can. Party nights are available at Xmas.

We’ve stayed here on several occasions in the past, but not for a while. We put that right a couple of days ago with a one-night stay that was simply excellent. This is one of the most welcoming, friendly and comfortable hotels we’ve ever stayed at. Staff are helpful and efficient, our room (Room 10) was excellent and spotlessly clean, and breakfast was really good. Excellent location in Pickering, easy walk into the town. Can’t fault the Forest & Vale.

We had a great stay here. Brilliant location for going to the coast or moors. The staff were excellent, friendly and professional. The room (a superior room, room number 6 ) was amazing, with a comfortable seating area including an armchair and two seater sofa. My self and wife to be ( Hopefully ) stayed here purely because of Lisa the very kind and helpful lady on reception who informed us during our last minute journey she only had one very nice room left and much to our surprise offered to hold it for us until we got there this now a days a very rare approach.Once we got there we were chuffed to bits with the room ended up having dinner of which we all so really enjoyed, just one comment this hotel and its staff are far better than name badges of which I have never been a fan why don't you refuse to wear them and set a precedence as I understand this is not the hotel owners policy but the policy of being part of the best western hotel group.

We visited the Forest and Vale as a guest for our friends wedding. We thought the venue was excellent and wedding went very smoothly. The staff were very efficient and the food was very tasty. We stayed over and the room was clean with a bath in the en-suite. Breakfast was great. It was freshly cooked with a big choice on the menu. Again staff were friendly and efficient. Would recommend.

I have stayed here on business a few times but this it was leisure, the staff were as always friendly and the breakfast was good, the only downside was the bathroom in our superior room, it was clean however extremely small,a little tired and no better than standard rooms in the hotel.

Stayed here as I was working in the area. Hotel is a bit of a maze but adds to its quirkyness. Room was spacious enough and clean. Shower was ok and the bed was comfy. Walls and ceilings are quite thin mind so you can here literally everything next door and upstairs... £14 for breakfast is outrageous, I would walk literally 2 minutes into town and go to Russell’s cafe!

We are local to the area but have never been here before. Earlier this afternoon we decided to call in for a few drinks and maybe book for an evening meal later. There were a few tables occupied in the bar and we sat down and my husband went to the bar. After a couple of minutes standing there a waiter appeared and said he would be just ' a couple of minutes ' as he was pouring champagne for a small wedding reception in an adjoining room. We waited nearly 10 minutes and he then came out of the room and took in another bottle of champagne. We felt ignored and unhappy and walked out. On a busy Saturday just before Christmas with a wedding reception to serve, surely it is not beyond a hotel like this to have more than one bar person on duty ? I don't expect a response from the hotel as they don't appear to take much notice of reviews on here.

A lovely, large room with a huge, comfy bed. The bathroom was spacious and had a large bath with a shower over. Sizzling radiators and splendid, thick, soft towels. Breakfast was a real feast, served by a chirpy, delightful waitress who went out of her way to be helpful. My partner had delicious fish with poached eggs but I wrapped myself around the “full Yorkshire” breakfast. We left before 8, well rested and well fed!

Attended an all age family party here. It was a good venue giving access to plenty of rooms for pre dinner drinks, meet and greet and those wanting a quieter space when the band was playing. The food served to about 100 diners was very good. Parking is available at the rear of the hotel.

We stayed here on our way home from Whitby. Very friendly staff and we were put in a room in the new part of the hotel. Very nice clean room and comfortable bed. We didn’t have breakfast as we had to leave early but the hotel is well positioned and ideally situated for exploring Pickering and the surrounding area.

Never had a bad meal here. The staff are great. Tom and Ben are so helpful and friendly, nothing is too much bother for them.

Booked in to link in with my birthday, the Hotel is a little dated for the price, we stayed in Superior room 1, the bathroom needs some attention and the ivy needs trimming from the bedroom window, everyone of the staff needs to be thanked, you were all fantastic, keep up the good work!

Spent an enjoyable weekend in the North Yorkshire Moors and stayed overnight in the Forest and Vale Hotel. Stay was very comfortable and can recommend the accommodation!

We dined here on a Monday night - what a mistake. I had the pork loin with cardboard Yorkshire pudding, pebble hard roasties and tepid brown gloop gravy poured over everything whether you wanted it or not. My hubby went for something which looked a shade better - pork shoulder, mash and gloop. Disgusting - obviously mostly left over from yesterday's Sunday Lunch and re-heated. Harsh - maybe but so was the price we paid for what we got. Shame on them. The up- side was the service from the two young people - they were very pleasant and efficient. We paid and left … but the memory lingers on...

The menu offers a nice variations of food to try and the specials are always really tempting. The beef and lamb roast dinners are really tasty. The fish selection is good, try the salmon or sea bass, highly recommended. The staff at the Forest and Vale are very pleasant and the lovely setting makes it an all round great experience. Definitely 5 stars.

Once again we returned to Pickering for our annual visit to the North Yorkshire Moors and as usual stayed at the Forest and Vale for four nights. We were,as always made very welcome by Jane,Carol,Susanne,the Reception team and both Ben and Tom who served some lovely prepared and presented evening meals. We also should mention the lovely lady who served excellent Yorkshire breakfasts which set us up for the day ahead. Thankyou all and look forward to our next visit.

Just had a fabulous 5-day stay with a group of fabulous friends. Highly recommend this to anyone wanting to stay where the staff are so warm and friendly, nothing was too much trouble and the breakfasts lovely. Also had a sandwich lunch and evening meal. Enjoyed three days at this hotel. Car left in hotel car park and it was an easy walk to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway from where we got the steam train to Whitby. We had a superior room which was a good size with views overlooking the lovely gardens ... our only disappointment was that it was a bit too chilly to sit outside! Breakfast was excellent as too was the evening meal. The staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful. Good stay, thank you.

Arrived late after a very long journey from Amsterdam via Birmingham , reception were great and very efficient. The gentleman carried my bags up and made sure I was ok. Had dinner on the second night, service great, very friendly and attentive. Had beef stew which was lovely. The rooms are warm, spacious and clean. A little dated in decor but the service and cleanliness make up for that.

First the hotel was lovely and warm and welcoming. The staff were excellent at serving and rushing around and not forgetting you. Food came out quickly which was amazing as there were 7 very large parties there. BUT, and this is a massive but, sadly the food was worse than any school dinner. The turkey tasted and looked strange as most of our party commented. I thought perhaps it was a foreign turkey. Very white and a strange texture but loads of it. I couldn't eat it all but I didn't want to. The gravy was Sunday dinner ok but the turnip was so liquefied it was like tomato sauce only paler. I didn't even put the potatoes on my plate they looked so bad and neither did a lot of our party. I had soup for starters and it tasted and looked like Cambles tinned with a few fresh chunks of veg in. The pudding was ok but far too much. I can't fault the excellent service and the disco looked great but my husband doesn't dance and we had to go home anyway. I wouldn't ever have another Xmas dinner here but I would come back to see if their usual dining was better as I liked the place and the staff were so on the ball which was very good.

We stayed overnight. The room was clean and well equippped. The breakfast was delicious and the staff were excellent. Although they were catering for a wedding, we were quickly served at the bar and I was brought a liquer coffee despite the barman having to go to another part of the hotel for it.

My sister was married here on 4th November . What a fabulous experience.On arrival our bags were taken up to our well appointed room which was comfortable and spacious .Approx 40 wedding guests stayed here for 2 nights and the staff attended to our every need. There are plenty of menue choices in the bar to cater for every taste..Im coelic and had no problem finding a wholesome evening meal....

Poor bland food overpriced very variable. Drinks prices astronomical! Have visited this establishment many times but the present owners seem to think locals are a soft touch.

Nos alojamos por un par de noches, el hotel era estupendo, limpio y elegante, la habitación excelentemente preparado con buenas instalaciones, la acogida amable y personal. Comimos una comida estupenda en una de las noches de vino y comida a un precio razonable y de buena calidad. El desayuno estaba bien.

Stopped off here for lunch. The hotel is very smart and I certainly would consider staying here in the future but the main selling point was the service, it was excellent. Very friendly but not intrusive staff. The young man that served us couldn't have been nicer and more helpful when they didn't have what I asked for he went off to enquire and came back with an alternative that turned out to be delicious. So well done Forest and Vale as great customer service will ensure customers return again and again, will definitely be back.

We arrived quite late in the evening but the staff made us welcome and were helpful recommending local fare. The food was very well presented and we enjoyed it thoroughly. The surroundings are very tasteful, beautiful bathroom facilities and a calm, quiet atmosphere. Loved the friendly, sociable staff and their obvious pleasure in serving and helping their customers especially the elderly customers who clearly appreciated the service and attention they received. Well done guys, a credit to your yourselves and your employers.

We last stayed at this hotel about a year ago. This is a very popular hotel in the centre of Pickering. It has a large car park and lovely gardens. All staff are friendly and helpful. Delicious food is served in the informal and relaxing bar. Oun Superior Room was indeed superior. An excellent base for exploring North Yorkshire.

Now this is a very cleverly and tastefully converted Grade 2 listed Manor House into a hotel - it had comfort and charm. Excellent service from all members of staff. A true "Yorkshire" feel to the menu and the food was hot and served on hot plates - what more could you ask?

We were asked to come s little earlier than our reservation time as there was a large rotary group eating on the same night. We arrived 15 minutes early and ordered pretty much straight away. Our drinks were brought but unfortunately we had to wait over an hour for our food to arrive. The situation was saved by the staff who admitted there had been a mistake and immediately took control of the situation bring us bread and drinks on the house and apologizing. When the food arrived it was well presented and was really delicious. Would definitely go back

We booked a table for 7 P.M. And we're told to arrive a little early as there was a large party having dinner there at seven too, we dutifully arrived at 6:45 PM we ordered drinks and food, about 7:30 the staff apologized saying that our order didn't go in before the large party, they gave us a basket of bread and a round of free drinks to tide us over, our food arrived a hair before 8 PM, it was worth waiting for! Everything we had was really lovely, well cooked and seasoned and presented, cannot fault it....very professional staff, I witnessed the bartender training a new staff member, he was very good, right down to instructing him how to properly carry a tray of drinks! I cannot fault this establishment, we have eaten there often and can really recommend it, it has a lovely garden and terrace too.

We have use this hotel several ti.es before. The welcome was warm, the rooms are lovely and the food and hospitality is wonderful. This is a great place to return to after riding on some fantastic roads around north Yorkshire. Not far from Whitby and Oliver's mount circuit. The dining room is airy and welcoming with nice friendly service. Plenty of choice at breakfast with the Yorkshire breakfast hitting the spot to start the day. Good facilities in the rooms and very comfortable beds. I was that impressed I've already booked again for next year.

Our overnight stay was very good. gluten free options were readily available at the function and at breakfast. The service at the function was excellent and the staff were kind, helpful and first class with all our enquiries. Our room 14 was spacious the bed was very comfortable. I can highly recommend this hotel.

I've always wanted to stay at this hotel, and I was not disappointed. We booked at very short notice (1 day!) and could only get one of the smaller rooms, but it didn't matter. All of the staff were brilliant, breakfast and evening meals excellent, hotel spotless and beautifully decorated. Loved it! Pickering is such a lovely little town, and perfectly situated to explore the Yorkshire Moors, Wolds and Coast. Will be back - with more notice and a bigger room!

I love this place. I have now visited twice and cannot say a bad word. The staff are charming and always made a fuss of our little boy and his flashing dinosaur shoes.Rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious and the setting is very pretty.I really can't wait to go back.

Just returned from the F & V (Our 25th+ visit) and once again the stay was excellent, the food was superb, the staff as always were helpful, polite and efficient and the whole place is always so clean. It is consistently good in all these areas. Looking forward to our next visit.

Lovely hotel and very helpful staff nothing was too much trouble and where chatty and jovial.Perfectly situated for town and surrounding area Had a relaxing afternoon in bar then a wonderful evening meal in the brasserie.Room was clean, tidy and warm,bed not the most comfortable but everyone has different preferences.Would definitely stay again and would have no problem in recommending the hotel for anyone else

Went for new year and this hotel is so consistent with the quality of food, nice rooms and friendly staff. Ideal for a lovely break, anytime of the year.

My daughters wedding was here absolutely gorgeous wonderful food and lovely staff she loved the wedding suite the garden was so peaceful

Always choose here when we fancy fish and chips! Great tasting quality ingredients large menu to choose from we always have take away however there is a large cafe at the rear with parking.

We stayed here for one night and loved this hotel! The staff were all very welcoming and friendly. We had a four poster bed, and a beautifully furnished, very large and comfortable room with big armchairs, a settee, a large tv, two tables and lots of space. Four stairs led down to a pristine modern en suite bathroom.The hotel looked lovely and festive with a beautiful Christmas tree inside, a pretty garland on the bannister and festive lights outside in the bushes. The hotel is reminiscent of a big country house. Breakfast was great and there were several lovely rooms where you could sit to enjoy a drink, or hold functions. Highly recommended and we would love to go again!

We visit the Forest and Vale on a regular basis and always eat in the bar where the atmosphere is informal and the staff are friendly but efficient. Great choice of food to please all palates.

Didn't book for an evening meal, but were lucky to be able to be accommodated after a very short wait. I couldn't fault anything, the evening was very enjoyable mainly due to the extremely friendly and attentive staff. The food was well worth waiting for. I would highly recommend this hotel for a meal.
