I did the foraging course with Marc, followed by tasting menu lunch… a fab experience! Lovely group of people, lots of laughs, but also learned so much. Was the only person there on my own but it wasn’t a problem thanks to folks from Ipswich 🙂 who felt like friends by the end! When I go walking now I’m noticing so many things that Marc taught us. Tasting lunch was hosted by a funny chef and flavours were mind blowing! Deffo coming back! Thank you ❤️🪴

What a fantastic day! We were welcomed with coffee and a lovely treat before Marc gave us a great overview of foraging. We spent three hours looking and learning all about different species of mushrooms, plants, berries. What we can and cannot eat. Marc was so knowledgable, we found it really informative and fascinating. Finished the morning with a fabulous lunch at Forage Kitchen, three beautiful courses all with local produce. Couldn’t rate it more highly. We will definitely be coming back! Chloe & Iain

We went in the foraging tour then a meal afterwards. It was one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life. The foraging was fascinating!! Since I've been home, I've found beefsteak mushrooms and parasol mushrooms and I've picked and cooked them with confidence. I'm now addicted to the whole world of foraging. A wonderful venue. Mark our guide was a legend. A fab day in every way!!!

Had an excellent day learning beginners foraging followed by a 5 course taster meal. The course was lead by a lovely man called Marc Ladi who really knows his stuff when it comes to foraging and his passion for it really shone throughout the whole day, he embraced questions from everyone and showed us an abundance of delights which we also got to try from picking. The meal was amazing and full of incredible flavours which the chefs also talked through when being brought to the table. I would highly recommend this to anyone

Took part in a beginners foraging course followed by a 5 course taster menu tasting. An absolutely fantastic setting in the grounds of stately home but with an intimate dedicated kitchen and restaurant for the foragers. MARK our instructor for the course was outstanding! So much passion and knowledge for mushrooms and plants it was a joy to listen to him . Plenty of guidance with equally enough time to go do yourself. Diverse areas.to explore but all super accessible and close by. Definitely came away with confidence to go pick a few mushrooms on the next dog walk. The 5 course taster menu was not only an eye-opening insight into what you can use to make a meal but it was some of the best food I've ever had! Amazing. Very likely to do the intermediate corse and go for more tasting and cooking courses

Very good food with below par service from the host. We have tried all of the finer dining experiences in Bury St Edmunds and we felt a bit of a bitter taste coming away from this one. As we walked in there was no greeting, the host just pointed to a table. No feeling of being made welcome. Food - very good. Some very interesting dishes which were well explained by the chefs, enjoyed this part of the experience. Highlights were the deer and arancini but all courses were enjoyable. Drink - wine experience was above average, with wines well explained. Venue - great to see the chefs prepare and serve the food. However way too hot in there. Service - one host to cover every table. Too much for one person. Clearly had to cater to the more important guests and regulars - not a good move honestly. Breath also not good. Took 30 minutes to get the bill when everyone is ready to leave, not good enough. As mentioned, shame the service let down an otherwise enjoyable experience. Won’t be back unless improvements made.

Our first visit and we had a wonderful lunch on a warm spring day. Very attentive staff, descriptions of dishes were detailed but quick. The room is simple but pretty with brick walls and exposed beams. Wine was very reasonably priced. We had different favourites - mine was the hake, my husband the pork in pastry/mushroom/black pudding dish. We both loved the little tuiles with tartare fillings. Everything was delicious. Our courses included two different types of bread with a wild garlic spread, both very tasty, very generous portions so we had to pace ourselves so as not to feel too full too quickly. Lunch is incredibly good value for this quality of food. We will definitely be back and bring family too. We are lucky to have this restaurant so close to where we live.

The food was absolutely amazing, and so imaginative too. The wine flight paired perfectly to the food and was just the right amount of alcohol too. Great atmosphere with excellent service. So nice for the chefs to explain each course to you, a lot of thought and work had obviously gone into preparing the food. And then the final touch was pairing your phone to the ‘bill’ box so that we were sent a copy of the menu by email. Overall, an excellent evening and well worth the money. Thank you very much.

I had a wonderful lunch and experience with my daughter for my birthday treat. The food and wine were both delicious. Every dish was delivered and described to our table by chef. We chose to also have the mini wine flight to accompany our lunch, the sommelier had chosen and presented the wines perfectly. Having both foraged and amazing Suffolk ingredients, prepared and developed into extremely tasty food was lovely. Definitely a place to visit if you love inventive, delicious, local food, along with the perfect wines. My only small criticism would be the venue was a little cold and perhaps lacks a little in atmosphere when first stepping in, this is soon forgotten once you start your Forage Kitchen dining experience.

It was our 10th Wedding Anniversary and Valentine's Day, so we were looking for a very special experience to celebrate, and Forage Kitchen delivered in spades. Their ten course tasting menu (that changes monthly - so we will be back!) was absolutely amazing! We didn't know what each course would be, and it was delivered by the chef and explained in detail. The flavours were well balanced and absolutely delicious! My husband described the entire meal as "like a choir of angels singing on my tongue." We both loved every single course, and would've bought LOAVES of the breads they served. Treat yourself to this culinary experience, and get there early as they don't seat you, it's first come, first served, and only ten tables. Be prepared to wait for drinks to start, and for the bill at the end, as the night we were there, there was only 1 server who was also the sommelier. He did a great job though!

We had a fabulous experience at Forage Kitchen. After hearing a lot of good things about the establishment from friends, we decided to make the trip from London to see what all the fuss was about for a morning of foraging and evening meal. It was well worth the journey. The morning was spent with a gentle stroll foraging in the scenic Suffolk woodlands. The excursion was hosted by Mel, the charismatic owner, who did a fine job of captivating everyones attention and keeping us entertained with his sharp wit and fountain of interesting foraging facts. I never realised mushrooms could be so interesting and learnt a lot. The evening foraging feast was the highlight of our visit. We had a multi course tasting menu with wine pairing. The food was divine - innovative and imaginative, beautifully presented dishes with original ingredients that captured the foraging blueprint. Stand out dishes were the Goats yoghurt foam and Mexican marigold granita, and cured hake with seaweed, mushroom and dashi (both pictured). The wine pairing had been meticulously sourced by Mel the proprietor who once again impressed with his encyclopaedic knowledge of wine. We were treated to some rare fine vintages sourced from lesser known origins that complemented the distinctive flavours in each dish perfectly. Having had a foraging lesson earlier in the day, our meal was also an enlightening and eye-opening educational journey courtesy of the knowledge imported to us with each course by Mel and chef Connor , our two genial, earnest hosts. Big thank you to the whole team for a truly memorable and enjoyable experience that stimulated all our senses and brains, and was the gastronomic highlight of our year.

Another brilliant evening at the Forage Kitchen... this time the summer menu, light, delicate and well-crafted seasonal (and very tasty) food.... It's a delight to watch Tom and Ric in action constructing each course, and then bringing it over and explaining their works of art.. Nancy is brilliant with front of house, and the mocktails, including many using foraged ingredients, complement the meal very well. Highly recommended.

We just keep coming back, the food (quality, taste and presentation) and service is excellent, and amazing value for money. Reservations go quickly for these reasons, and due to its size (another major plus - intimate and comfortable). The menus change about about 2 months...

We are so lucky to have a place like this in Suffolk. We've been there four times now and are never disappointed. The staff are charming and each dish is a surprise! I think the most surprising was a "Baron Bigod" (yes, the Suffolk cheese)...

NOW PERMANENTLY CLOSED :-( The Plough at Rede is one of Suffolks best kept secrets. A thatched pub with oak beams, an open fire, all tucked away in the tiny hamlet of Rede. Stunning location, fabulous atmosphere with a warm welcome and the best food for miles around. Brian and Joyce have been running the Plough for over 30 years with customers returning time and time again. Ide give 100 stars if I could.
