Amazing food served with a smile. All freshly cooked and great value for money. Both Sarah and our waitress were friendly and chatty. We are looking forward to returning on Saturday evening. Shame our holiday ends on Sunday would have loved to try a Sunday lunch.

This is a modest bistro in the small village of Peterchurch on the B4348 some 12 miles from Hereford. It has limited openings, mainly late week evenings and Sunday lunch. The menu, at least for Sundays is limited but all that chef/owner Sarah does is honest, well-cooked and seasoned and fairly priced. Our most recent visit included smoked salmon mousse with good toast as a starter, roast beef with all the trimmings and plenty of a variety of vegetables and a excellent panna cotta with passion fruit dressing to end. Vegetarians catered for. A good wine list, which includes our favourite New Zealand sauvignon blanc and pinot noir, also reasonably priced. Nice coffee with a chocolate. Three courses are about £24, around £18 for two with service at your discretion. You really cannot go wrong here, which is the very antithesis of the £135 6 course and £80 wine flight pretentious nonsense you can find too often elsewhere, although in this part of the world such establishments are rightly going out of business!

Absolutely wonderful food, perfectly cooked, with lovely staff looking after us. I had no idea what to expect when we went, but this has just become my favourite place to eat. Everything fresh, beautifully presented, interesting choice of food and also specials of the day. Four of us dining, all eating different things, and everything just amazing. My husband adored the licorice ice cream! Sarah deserves a Michelin star for her cooking. Cannot recommend highly enough

Food for Thought serves such wonderful food I am spoilt for choice and that doesn’t happen to me very often as I don’t eat red meat at my choices are limited. However there were lots of dishes , starters and mains that I could have eaten. Really enjoyed my meal as did everyone in my party. Definitely a return visit is needed to try all the dishes I don’t have last time. Ambience is not great. It’s better if there are a few of you.

We had our excellent Christmas dinner there yesterday. We were served and looked after by the hosts who were most attentive and ensured we wanted for nothing. Sarah the chef came out for a quick chat a couple of times too. We were made to feel very welcome. We both had the Mushroom Soufflé starter then the Traditional Turkey mains followed by Traditional Homemade Christmas Pudding then Mince pie and coffee to finish. Every mouthful was excellent. The turkey just melted in our mouths. The veg were all just cooked perfectly. The roast potatoes were done to perfection. We could not fault any of it and were still savouring the flavours and textures in the evening. We wholly recommend this tiny exquiste Bistro in Peterchurch.

Visited with friends for a meal last night. From the road it is very unassuming - you could walk past without knowing what was behind the door. However on walking in we were met by the most amazing smells and a lovely friendly staff. They could not have been more helpful with adapting the menu for my rather extensive and complex allergies and I was able to choose from most of the fantastic sounding menu. Our entire party of 4 had a wonderful relaxed meal and the fact that your chef comes out to chat afterwards only enhances the experience. Absolutely blown away by the quality of the food and the fantastic service and atmosphere which is far above the cost - Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc at £19! Would highly recommend if you find yourself in Hereford area.

Our friends in Hereford strongly recommended this small restuarant , and we were not disappointed. They easily and efficiently coped with a table of 9 and the food all arrived at the same time which was hot and tasty. It was also extremely good value for money.

Jo at Breeze Barns said that this was the best restaurant in the area, she was right. The owner, an amazingly highly organized female chef only opens in the evening from Wednesdays to Saturdays. It looks like an unassuming converted shop from outside with large windows and a covering blind. Walk in behind the unusual coloured glass side wall/ window into a smallish room with room for about 28 to 30 people. We dined on a Wednesday and were asked to arrive 15 minutes before the opening time of 7.00 p.m. as she had two parties in that night. A reasonable, but not huge menu with several specials and a very good wine list is seen in this large room full of different lamp shades of the glass variety. The table are lovely old scrubbed wood. We managed, unusually for us, three courses each, because the food was so light, well prepared and tasty. Portions are reasonable with starters and desserts all being £6 each and well worth it -check out the pea fritters with smoked salmon. We had a lovely glass of French Sauvignon Blanc the house wine, but it was the main courses that were so amazing duck with roasted, crispy new potatoes and a vegetable selection, specially not done pink [great to be offered the choice] my hake in an avocado & leek base with the roasted aforesaid potatoes was brilliant too-priced at c £15 each. Panna Cotta with strawberries and crème brullee for Di followed, so light and out of this world. We finished with great decaffeinated coffee. There is a slightly French feel to the English style of cooking. The two young waitresses were brilliant and dealt with us and the two parties so well. We were in between a table of six and one of ten, but despite this we held a normal conversation despite the celebrations, so good acoustically as well. What is not too like about this bistro style restaurant in the lovely village of Peterschurch?. My best meal this year and on a par with Le Table in Surbiton, one of the top ten in London. Our three course meal with a glass of wine, plus coffees was well worth the £75 plus optional tip. Great cooking -thank you.

Having visited this bistro on a number of occasions over 2 years I feel I now have to leave a review. Food is excellent. Providing you stick to the limited ever changing menu and don't mind waiting quite a while you won't be disappointed. Wife works the kitchen. Thank you. Husband works the front of house. This area has zero atmosphere, few customers, lousy wine selection and an arrogance far beyond it's capabilities. This gentleman is rude and conceited. He will allow no criticism or input from his customers. He needs to remember who pays his bills. Kitchen and food amazing. If the setting and host were better we would still eat there.

This little bistro in Peterchurch village is very understated. Although I had been a few times before, it seems to get better each visit. I was visiting with my daughter & son in law and they both declared the best fillet steak they have eaten. This was also after they had been visiting North Wales and 5 star castles! Sarah is an excellent chef and the atmosphere was friendly and welcoming. We ate spicy pork belly with hoi son sauce as starter. Delicious. Then 2 had fillet steak with Stilton & port sauce. I had sea bass which was very fresh and excellent. It was a welcome change not to automatically be served chips but instead saute potatoes and variety of vegetables. The raspberry cheesecake that I somehow managed to force down was delicious. The menu is not cast but certainly enough choice and each dish served fresh and perfectly.Definitely worth a visit to this bistro.

Lovely little restaurant in a Herefordshire village. Staff were warm, welcoming and good conversation. Food was fresh and tasted fantastic. We had between us: Goats cheese and beetroot salad, mussels in local cider and cream sauce, venison with potato gratin and warm spicy apple cake with homemade custard. Would recommend a visit. It was fairly quiet when we visited although it was mid-week!

We came for an evening meal out whilst staying locally and it is the only restaurant around. What a find!! This was the best restaurant food we have had. Everything was just fantastic and can not be faulted in any way. The vegetables served with the meal were to die for. Even my husband said that the potatoes were the best he had ever tasted! The atmosphere was wonderful. Steve - front of house - what a pleasant man, would do anything for you. Sarah - the chef - never met her, but your food my love was sublime. Would I go again? A most definite YES - and I suggest everyone goes before they get their first Michelin star! well deserved.

I really wish I'd found Food for Thought sooner. It's a fab local bistro, owned and ran by a great couple, very friendly, welcoming and a very good chef. All the food is freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. Not a huge menu , also a specials board but very well done. A nice wine selection, very reasonably priced. We had the potato pancakes with smoked salmon and the pan fried king prawns to start, both very really tasty. We had the steak, cooked rare, and was cooked to perfection. For dessert we had raspberry meringue ice cream sundae which was also delicious. Overall probably one of the nicest all round meals I have had in a long time. I can't wait to go back for lunch. One of the best places to eat in Herefordshire.

My Mother was staying with us last week and on an excursion to Hay-on-Wye we spotted Food for Thought and decided to book that evening. The front of house staff were friendly and welcoming but not obtrusively so. In spite of all the food being local and freshly prepared the wait was certainly not long and boy was it worth the wait. Plate after plate of delicious food cooked to perfection and I felt the price we paid was very reasonable. Almost reluctant to give a positive review in case it becomes too popular. Will be going back for Sunday lunch soon

Not sure why TA lists this restaurant in Hereford when it is in fact 12 miles away in the Golden Valley, but as we live in the village that is no problem.Food for Thought has been here for some years now and has never disappointed. It is really a treat to have such a good little restaurant out in the sticks as we are. It's not fine dining London style, of course, but it's often better than the pretentious offerings of fashionable foody havens. You will have local produce well cooked and presented and with friendly, helpful service - incomparable value for money. Very popular among locals at weekends, so booking is essential, and it can get a little noisy. Very strongly recommended.

We are here with adult son; it was his treat which made the food taste even better! The food is consistently good here, we have never had a bad meal, and this was no exception. The menu has something for everyone, some nice veggie options, specials which change regularly and always a delicious duck dish.Puddings are simple and delicious; baked lemon pot is highly recommended, as is the chocolate tart. Service is always great, the bill is never too much of a shock and the prosecco is very drinkable.

This restaurant is located in the village of Peterchurch on the fringes of the Black Mountains situated along the B4348 along the Golden Valley to the West of Hereford. It is claimed that all the produce is sourced locally where possible and their fresh fish supplied directly from the coast. As we were passing through the following day I previously booked for Sunday lunch and during booking we were told that there was a party of 18 folks previously booked in at 12.30pm. This was a considerate response because from my experience a meal can be tarnished by the problems associated of serving a large group simultaneously in a small establishment. I was led to believe that by coming at 1.30pm all would be fine. The beef lunch with the usual trimmings was OK but this visit unfortunately would not stimulate another visit or regrettably a favourable review from me. I should have followed my instincts and given this place a miss after my phone call. I have given an average rating for the pleasant welcome and the personable service.

We celebrated our son's 21st birthday here with a variety of family and friends. We were warmly welcomed by Steve and he had a bottle of prosecco ready chilled for us. There were six of us on a busy night and the service was excellent. Food, as ever, was well-presented, well cooked and absolutely delicious. We all had our meals at the same time, hot food was hot, cold food was cold and everybody cleared their plates. This had long been our favourite place to go for family celebrations and, once again, it lived up to expectations. Including wine, beer and soft drinks, it worked out at £35 a head - very reasonable for this standard of food and service. We will be back!

There is a wide range of meals on the menu and they were all well presented and sensible portions. The only small gripe was that the amount of vegetables could be a bit on the small side for a table of 4.Prices were OK,not cheap but not too bad.

We were staying on the Malvern View Country and Leisure Park for a weekend stay which we could not fault. However, we dined at The Old Barnhouse on the Saturday evening and unfortunately the food was terrible. We waited for nearly an hour and when the food arrived it was half cold. My mother and father had scampi and chips, no peas and they were out of tartare sauce! My sister and I had the New Yorker chicken which consisted of a huge portion of coleslaw that wasn’t very nice and the chicken was small and if poor quality. My daughter had a kids pizza, chips and beans which was just about acceptable. The five meals and a round of drinks came to over £80 which was appalling for the quality of the food. Avoid The Old Barnhouse for food! Pleasant enough for a drink.

Rude, extremely disappointing, shocking and disrespectful staff! We arrived after making a booking the day before. I booked 2 Adults, 1 child aged 2. The booking itself was pleasant. We got slightly lost, rang in and again very pleasant. Arrived 7 minutes late and walked into a very ‘local’ pub feel. All eyes on us. We were told by the bar person that they were glad we found them. A woman appeared and looked at my Grandson and commented ‘we don’t have highchairs’ I commented that I’d booked ahead with a child on the booking? She said she would go down in the cellar and dust something suitable to bring up then asked me if I had a chair in my car???!!!! We approached the bar and I said I was confused as I’d booked a child ahead of coming. I was ignored, I said once again and the younger woman behind the bar looked at me and in a slightly raised voice utttered ‘well, yes she’s gone to get you something hasn’t she!!’ Based on this experience I told my Friend we were leaving as being treated like this was way beyond acceptable. I wasn’t happy and I let it be known! My Friend and I were left shocked and felt we had been treated appallingly by 2 extremely rude women. Whilst we were putting my Grandson in the car the older women came out and further patronised us with her offering of a dusted off cellar chair and we told her that her colleague was vile and it had gone beyond the chair. She walked off. Having read through the reviews I can see hands have changed and so this may be why I didn’t receive the reputation I had heard of. I have the feeling they felt they were above us! I’m not easily impressed so their Morgan cars and gold large Baroque chairs only further deepens my suspicions that they think they’re better 🤣🤣
