Nice pub, amazing Roast, among the finest in Bristol

We had Sunday Roast and it was delicious too yummy to take photos of before we stuffed our faces! I can't have mustard and Cara made sure to check everything I wanted was fine for me to have. They even re-wash your cutlery to avoid contamination!

2019: Nice pub, well maintained and very popular. Easy to get to although the parking can be challenging at busy times. The menu is standard pub grub, with a few posh and wacky options enough to give most people something to eat. The kids menu is also reasonable. My experience of recent staff has been excellent, especially with kids. Would recommend to family and friends. Have visited in the past and will visit again in the future. The only negative I have to offer is that the meal pricing could be slightly better value for money, hence the only reason for my 4 stars. 2021: My view of this pub had changed. My current visit as I sit in the pub has not gone well. Visited here with my family. Not only were many standard pub grub like steak & ale pie unavailable on a Saturday, but when I changed my option and asked for no onions (due to intolerance, which I told them), when it arrived it was served with onions! Which resulted in me having to pick through my meal to remove. Worst £14 spent! Will have to seriously consider the benefit of returning here in the future! 2 Stars. 2024: Haven't been here in a while due to previous experiences. Unfortunately my view hasn't improved much in 3 years! Arrived Sunday afternoon for a pre-booked table, had to wait too long to be seated, and when ordering yet again the steak & ale pie and other classic pub grub meals were not available and service was too slow, which with kids can be a problem. Although the serving staff were friendly and their attention to dietary requirements had improved. As my experience has not significantly improved since last time, I will be giving this pub a wide berth for a while until I hear that things have improved. 3 Stars.

Have had a few great meals here before but today's Sunday roast was lovely too. The staff are all really good and friendly. Cara especially was fantastic.

I didn't stop on purpose at the Folly so can't really review. Unfortunately my car broke down on the road outside & a customer helped push me into the carpark. All the staff I spoke to were very helpful & this is a thank you to them for them helping a lone female.

Always excellent, my favourite place for a pub lunch. My mum is on a gluten-free diet and the care that is taken is second-to-none. The staff are always extremely friendly too.

Cannot get a basic steak cooked as requested. If they cannot do that, they do not deserve any stars. Staff unavailable and disinterested. No feedback sought on the meals. Will not be going back. Shame as the location and ambiance had potential

Called in for a drink and was shocked at the price. £9.50 for large glass of wine. The dearest I have paid to date. Even pubs in town are cheaper, so no rush back at that price. So wine and pint £15.75

Great experience food was lovely staff nice and friendly as well.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening, 2 had sea bass which was gorgeous. One had the gammon they were happy to change the chips for mash and the other had mixed grill. All was very enjoyable

Our first time there today. Three adults and one child. 4 different meals. A bit expensive but worth every penny for the quality of the food. We were served today by a lovely waitress called Cherie. Nothing was too much. Definitely recommend The Folly and most definitely will eat there again. Thank you for wonderful meals. SUPERB

I have never been to the folly before despite it being a 5-10minute walk from our house. It was a lovely little place, relaxing atmosphere and the food was amazing, even our fussy little eater enjoyed the meal. We were served by Sherie, she was pleasant and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Would 100% recommend to anyone. Oh and the deserts were to die for. Yum!!!

We've visited a couple of times for Sunday lunch, now. Both times have been fantastic. The service is great, and everyone is really attentive and friendly. The food itself is your usual Sunday fayre, but that isn't a slight; it's a really nicely done roast. If you book, two tables are selected each week to receive a free roast in a big Yorkshire pud... It's very, VERY big. No complaints whatsoever. An excellent afternoon out

A lovely spot to have a Sunday lunch today. A quaint rustic pub with bar games available. A lovely beer garden both from and to the rear of the pub. We sat in the bar area as opposed to the restaurant but had a very enjoyable time. Was hampered slightly as our original booking for 2 changed to a party of 4, although the website didn't allow us to alter and noone was answering the phone. However after a quick drive down to talk to an actual person, we sorted out booking out. We had a lovely Sunday Lunch which was good value for money, although the drinks were a bit pricey for the area. Would definitely recommend for a good meal out.

Lovely food and great service from Gemma. Could have done with more staff in on a busy Sunday, as had to wait quite long for drinks initially. Yorkshire puddings were too crispy and dry, but all other food was great. Will be back again soon.

Not the best experience. 40 minute wait for starters which were ok and I’d like to say that the 50 minute wait for the next course was worth the wait but sadly no. Hot plates and semi cold food. Chicken curry was all sauce and hunt the chicken , while the hunters chicken was semi cold with congealed cheese. Dirty drinks glasses and had to wait to get clean ones. The quiz music was so loud we decided to leave. Poor experience and wouldn’t recommend really not worth the money.

We had lunch on Saturday, Sat in the bar area as we hadn't booked. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, great value for money. We will definitely return.

Super visit 1st time took my 2 daughters staff very polite and friendly nice vibe and not pushy felt very comfortable to approach food was excellent came out quickly considering it was Sunday afternoon and was all served together with totally different meals can’t find fault even if I tried ( obviously I never ) also the sweets are to die for overall definitely going back bonus had 30% off

We waited ages for our meals and then one of us was given theirs with no sign of the other 3. We think there was a mix up in the kitchen and another table was given our food? We weren't really kept informed, but we're given extra crackling, which was appreciated. We have had slow service before, but thought we'd give the place another chance, plus we had some money off (thank fully). The food was good, when it finally arrived, but it took over an hour, plus one of us had finished eating - so not great. Due to the wait, we didn't want to stay for dessert. We get these things happen, but being a bit more up front about it would have been appreciated and maybe a gesture, as I had the code for money off anyway.

Only visited for the 30% off mains. Our young lady waitress was very happy and polite who gave good service. However, we could hear multiple larger groups complaining about the wait for their meals. Loads of empty tables but our friends were told who had not reserved a table that there was no room? Then an hour later they did....

Every year or so I visit family in Bristol. You are always among our choice of dining out several times. Good food, nice staff.

The staff were welcoming and friendly. The food was delicious, we ordered 6 roast dinners and there wasn’t a single fault with any of the meals. I personally loved that when having no ice in my drink it didn’t come out only 3 quarters full. Spot on!

Overall for the experience, the services was slightly below par, others served before us after arriving well after us. And exceptionally expensive for the quality of food and drink. Food - knock about £4 off every dish and you're about right. Drinks, I know Bristol is expensive but again for normal pints very pricey. £75 for 2 and that was with 30% off deal.

My friend and I both chose The Folly because of its easy access to the Motorway as we bothe had long journies to do after our visit. Your staff were really welcoming and we received good service. The food was also excellent so Well Done The Folly. I should mention that people on the table adjacent to ours complained on two separate occasions about their meals and your young waiter seemed to be polite and tolerant in his response to the complaints made.

Pint of Old Empire wasn't fresh but staff refused to replace it. It cost of £5.30 which would pay for four cans of ale in a supermarket. Two childrens meals were purchased at a cost higher than advertised on the menu; chicken dippers £5.79 and mac & cheese £6.79. NO main meals on the main menu were under £14.50 which is a disgrace. No meal deals on weekends. Pork Belly at £17.29 had two slices of pork the size of fish fingers. When we complained we were told this is the size they come into the kitchen. We asked for more pork and were refused because of cost. Mash potato and broccoli were the accompaniments. Chicken pie with mash, fine beans, carrots and gravy was again too expensive at £15.79. The food tasted fine but nothing special and we were all hungry after spending £63.11. I will not recommend this pub to anyone and will never visit again.

Chips were cold, service was slow, wasn’t asked how our food was, wasn’t asked if we wanted drinks. All in all very poor and disappointing.

Enjoyable meal helpful staff my only criticism would be your side salads only lettuce no tomatoes or anything else. Expensive for what I would have expected from a side salad. Also wine very good but expensive based on what you can buy in the shops.

If u want cheap nasty food then it’s the place to go

Awful meal. Husband had gammon and eggs. The egg was rubbery, over cooked, brown on the bottom and around the edge. His gammon was burnt. I don't mean overcooked, one edge was totally black and inedible. He did say the chips were nice! My tikka massala had 5 pieces of chicken the rest was sauce, nam bread was stodgy and rice was bland. The poppadom was nice. My husband was asked if he wanted sauce but declined explaining he never ate sauces. A small jug came with his meal with something brown in it. We didn't know what it was. Imagine my surprise when glancing at the receipt on our way home, to find we had been charged an extra £2 for beef dripping gravy which hadn't been ordered! With gammon and eggs? Go figure! We were the only people eating. No self-respecting cook/chef would have served food this bad. Total cost with 2 soft drinks - £40! Total waste of money.

I ordered a medium rare sirloin with some extra peppercorn sauce it was cooked to perfection and the drink selection was good with a selection of draft beers and ipas the staff are friendly and hard work definitely do recommend for anyone in emersons green

Very crowd and lovely atmosphere

All staff, which happened to all be female, were all really polite and friendly. This meant lunch with my mother in law was a lovely experience. The lunchtime meal deal was great too.

Avoid at all costs, took 50mins after asking twice politely if we can order drinks and by this time we was ready to order our food, food was a further 50mins which turned up cold and gave my daughter food poisoning from undercooked chicken which was stone cold in the middle only to be told another 50 mins to wait at which point we ordered starters just to get out of the place after being there for 2 hours with very poorly cooked meals (two of which was returned in exchange for two starters…) I complained and asked for money off the bill as they agreed the service and food was disgusting… They knocked off £30 off a £100 bill…. Which I just paid to get out of there. Gemma was really embarrassed about the situation (waitress) but not once did the manager come to our table and spoke directly with us and no apology from management. At the age of 44 I have never experienced such poor service from an establishment. To make it the insult even worse we all got moderate food poisoning's the day after. So if you want to wait 50mins before you get asked for drinks, then 50mins wait for your (highly priced) food which turns up cold and very poorly presented (chips cut in half and under cooked, steak cremated, chicken raw in the middle, cold food which should be hot) then to be charged almost full price for the privilege and then to suffer upset tummy (stuck on the loo the following day for most of the day) then go for it. I am spreading the word to all friends and family and feel absolutely robbed and insulted by this place. AVOID IT. I have attached pictures of the two meals we was left with in a poor state to eat, each cost £22.50!!!!

Mothers day What a lovely restaurant it has been some time since I had a meal at this restaurant & it did not disapoint. Though it was mothering Sunday & it was busy the restaurant was relaxed & everyone was enjoying their meals with there families. It was easy to book on line & we had a choice of time slots we booked 12.30-3pm which I appreciated as we knew exactly what time we had together without the feeling of our meal being rushed. The food was lovely as a family we had the Sunday roast turkey , mac & cheese, signature burger & the steak ale pie . Sweets : sticky Toffee pudding, salt Caramel sundae, cheesecake, chocolate brownie & apple crumble. Delicious. All the food was delivered to the table quickly & all the main meals were hot . Our server Tom was relaxed professional & very helpful. He took our food & drink orders & it was all brought to our table with the minimum of fuss & Tom checked with us as we were eating our meal to make sure everything was OK.. So Thankyou for making our family mothering Sunday get together a very relaxed & happy one . Good food good company & a great place to eat . Look forward to seeing the follys again soon.

The worst place me and my family have ever eaton, food was dropped on the floor got charged twice for wine and lemonade and the food was expensive and bland whrn you compare it to other marstons pubs, never again.

My partner had fish and chips nice piece of fish in crispy batter, it was delicious, I had scampi and chips mushy peas and it was great. The zero beer was shipyard, bottled, the only one on offer, the other was a lager. If you had Adnams ghost ship zero beer It would have been a 5 star for food, hint hint 😉

Booked an hour before, for a 6pm table. Restaurant was empty bar 1 or 2 tables occupied in another area. We were taken to a side area and offered the only table in the middle of the room. None of surrounding tables had anyone there at all, absolutely none. We asked to sit at the side. Told this couldn't be done for no apparent reason (bearing in mind we were surrounded by totally empty tables). When said we were going to go we were offered a table at the side and told someone would be along to take our drinks and food order shortly. So there we were all alone in the restaurant, no one appeared at all so we decided to go as felt v unloved and assumed they had taken against us. No reason apart from the issue of the table and we were not rude, simply asked for a side table! Felt this was payback by the young girl serving. Shame as previously had several family meals here and enjoyed them. What a different experience. Different area, different waitress. Felt like they were doing us a favour tonight. Obviously they don't value their customers.
