Terrible experience from start to finish. Was supposed to be a nice meal out catching up with a couple of family members and was actually the worst meal and experience that we have had in doing so. We got seated at the table and someone came to get a drinks order, we ordered 3 normal Pepsi (2 without ice) and a medium glass of White Zinfandel. The lady came back over with the soft drinks after a 10 minute wait and said that they don’t have White Zinfandel so told my aunt what wines they did have, it was clear that before going to get it that this girl didn’t know what was actually stocked in the bar. Unfortunately my aunt didn’t like the other wines that they had so ordered a lemonade. Our food order was then taken; we ordered hunters chicken with fries, a beef burger, a chicken burger with chunky chips, a plain chicken burger with nothing but cheese, and 3 sides of onion rings. When the food came out the side of onion rings with the 2 burgers turned out to be 3 small onion rings per meal charged at £1.50 so 50p each, which was actually an ‘upgrade’ not a side. We asked where the sides of onion rings were and we got told that it was miscommunication and that’s what we’ve got, never mind the fact of when we questioned why the onion rings were on the wrong plate we got told ‘they were meant for you’ and then she walked away. My cousins plain chicken burger with cheese had a sauce on it, so that got sent back. Whilst waiting for the burger my cousin ordered another Pepsi with no ice, but a Pepsi max with ice got brought over so she went to swap that, only to find that the wine was still on the bill. Another burger had arrived with reheated fries, just as the other 3 of us had finished our meals and to be honest it quite glad as my cousin then found a bone in her burger! I then told the waitress, who was stood around chatting, as I walked past and her response was ‘well they are… I’ll come and see’ as though she was actually going to argue it with me that bones are meant to be in the burger! When I returned to the table I asked what they were doing about it and got told that the waitress didn’t say much just ‘sorry’ and was kind of laughing. I’ve got to say that waitresses attitude was shocking anyway, she wasn’t accommodating at all and the errors were mainly on her part but were not taken seriously at all. They then cleared the plates and we asked to see a manager who also delivered shocking customer service. We were told by the manager ‘yes there was miscommunication, and I got told that the rest of you are your food’ to which we replied ‘yes well what did you expect us to do?’ Then listed the other issues that we had and again kind of got dismissed. My mum said that she wasn’t satisfied to pay for the meal because of the experience we have had and the manager then replied with ‘I’ve taken the drinks off (all soft drinks) and the chicken burger with bone, there’s not much more I can do’. Not that it makes much difference but £3 for the 2 portions of 3 onion rings that was miscommunicated could of been taken off or something. My aunt then said she had a 30% off voucher to use and the manager said ‘I thought you may of had one of those which is why I couldn’t take too much off’. At the end of the day we still had to pay £46 (including voucher) for a meal which was shocking from start to finish and for poor customer service. They should be absolutely ashamed!

The Folly is one of those places where you need a '3 1/2 Star' button - it's definitely better than 'Average', but not quite 'Very Good'. Why? Pretty good food, nice staff, but very slow service. We went on an early Tue evening, the pub was fairly empty (4 tables in use), yet the Service was seriously slow - I'd hate to think how bad it got by the time we left, as the pub was considerably busier, yet the same small number of staff from earlier hadn't been increased. The fact that dozens of other reviewers have said the likewise meant that we were ready for a delay.....but it was somewhat ironic that they seated us next to the wall where there were are six HUGE clocks!! Food was pretty good, more than big enough portions, and it was hot - so the delay didn't mean that it was sitting under a heat lamp. Likewise the Staff were all really nice - whilst it's difficult to pin down exactly what caused the delays, there just seemed to be a lack of urgency to everything, which meant that things took time.....a lot of time! So, for the price (for example, the beer was more expensive than elsewhere) I'd probably suggest trying somewhere else.

We had drinks and food on our last visit. My wife asked for an alternative milk which was listed on the app. A member of staff told us that this was not available, pointing to an inconsistency between the App and physical availability. This was also the case with some of the draught on tap. The food was fairly good, but quite pricey for the quality. Being local to this pub I have visited every so often and the food quality and service does seem to go up and down with staff turnover and menu changes.

Don't remember any meat being in there. Mash was nice, but think the veg had been microwaved. My colleague had the chicken pie and she said the pastry was soggy as if it had been microwaved as well. When it eventually arrived no sorry, no do you want sauces, not even did we want another round of drinks. Lovely lady serving on the bar who was chatty and friendly. The other female member of staff serving food was also very bubbly and friendly & made us feel very welcome. The young male member of staff serving the food looked thoroughly miserable and like he didn’t want to be there! My family and I decided to eat at The Folly as i’d received a 30% off main meal discount voucher posted through my letterbox. I’ve never eaten here before but the last time my partner ate at The Folly was several years ago when she had a disastrous experience so she was hoping that this time would be better. 🤞 Although my partner has been to the pub a couple of times within the last year it was only for drinks and to watch live singers. Our food came fairly quickly and my partner and I immediately thought that the portions were small . My elderly parents have smaller appetites so they were happy with theirs. They ordered fish & chips and scampi & chips and were satisfied. My partner ordered the cheese and onion pie which she asked for with chips (instead of mash) and according to the menu this was served with honey roasted carrots, peas, and mange tout. On her plate, she had eight chips, no peas, three pieces of mange tout and carrots that were NOT honey roasted! There was also a very small jug of gravy which wasn’t even half full. She asked the young man who had bought the food out where the peas were and he tried to tell her that the peas were encased in their shells (unbelievably he was referring to the mange tout! 🤦🏻♀️🤣) She explained that this was a totally different vegetable and that she was expecting honey roasted carrots and peas. He took her plate away and then bought it back with the addition of a small spoonful of peas. He couldn’t offer any explanation as to why the carrots that were advertised as honey roasted weren’t and were just regular boiled carrots. 🤷🏻♀️ As there was such a small amount of gravy, my partner asked the young lady if she could please have some more. She confirmed that she could, but there would be a charge. We couldn’t believe what we were hearing as NEVER have either of us been asked to pay for additional gravy in any other establishment that we’ve eaten in! As her meal was quite dry, she reluctantly agreed to pay and after quite a wait, another small jug of gravy appeared. In fairness, she said the gravy tasted lovely, but I think it’s awful to be charged an additional £1.99 for this!!! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger which came with fries, but again they were a very small portion which i was disappointed by. I also ordered an additional portion of onion rings but they didn’t arrive at the table with the meals and i had to ask for them to be brought out. There was quite a wait for them to be given to me. I can confirm that i did enjoy my burger. To conclude, the food was served hot and tasted perfectly acceptable but its a shame that the portions were so small especially as we ate from the ‘main menu’ and not the ‘lunch menu’ where it clearly states that the meals are light bites.

2019: Nice pub, well maintained and very popular. Easy to get to although the parking can be challenging at busy times. The menu is standard pub grub, with a few posh and wacky options enough to give most people something to eat. The kids menu is also reasonable. My experience of recent staff has been excellent, especially with kids. Would recommend to family and friends. Have visited in the past and will visit again in the future. The only negative I have to offer is that the meal pricing could be slightly better value for money, hence the only reason for my 4 stars. 2021: My view of this pub had changed. My current visit as I sit in the pub has not gone well. Visited here with my family. Not only were many standard pub grub like steak & ale pie unavailable on a Saturday, but when I changed my option and asked for no onions (due to intolerance, which I told them), when it arrived it was served with onions! Which resulted in me having to pick through my meal to remove. Worst £14 spent! Will have to seriously consider the benefit of returning here in the future! 2 Stars. 2024: Haven't been here in a while due to previous experiences. Unfortunately my view hasn't improved much in 3 years! Arrived Sunday afternoon for a pre-booked table, had to wait too long to be seated, and when ordering yet again the steak & ale pie and other classic pub grub meals were not available and service was too slow, which with kids can be a problem. Although the serving staff were friendly and their attention to dietary requirements had improved. As my experience has not significantly improved since last time, I will be giving this pub a wide berth for a while until I hear that things have improved. 3 Stars.

So like everyone else my only complaint is why do you have to empty a whole bottle of salt on my fries?! How hard is it to leave the fries plain and let people put their own amount of salt. Whilst i was there today i seen people from 2 different tables go up and complain about the saltyness on the flippin fries. Just stop doiing it!

There are, arguably, two reasons to visit Downend. One is on a summer’s afternoon to watch Downend CC play cricket with the bar in full swing and plenty of boundaries being scored as the ground is relatively small; the other is to pay a visit to Melanie’s Kitchen. This delicatessen shop is a positive cornucopia of cheeses, bakery items, biscuits, chutneys, artisan breads etc etc. The man who serves at the cheese counter (who I assume is not Melanie!) is a fountain of knowledge on local cheeses and knows all of the local cheese producers, when their cheeses are at their best and is happy to provide advice to ensure that you will leave well satisfied having enjoyed a sensory and culinary experience second to none. It’s full marks from me.

Came here by chance when the other Indian restaurant we had booked messed up our booking. Warm welcome in nice, modern decor. Menu was full of quite authentic Indian dishes which the staff were really helpful giving their advice. There are the usual curry classics too. Had the lamb curry which was divine & other family members had a variety of dishes which they all loved. One of the best curries I’ve had outside of India, it was that good! This place is a real gem! Patchway is very lucky to have this wonderful restaurant.
