Fiveways in Stockport

Not been for years but thought we would give it a try not impressed it was very quiet we ordered lasagne not much meat all pasta topping

New year eve party was great, only £5 a ticket which got you entry and a free drink, we usually go into Manchester for NYE and struggle to book somewhere and pay through the nose for everything! We won't be doing that again. The atmosphere was fab and staff were really friendly and accommodating, there was a singer on who was really good, comfortable environment, my husband and I had a really good time and will be returning next New year.

Just £5 for advance ticket for New year's Eve. This included a live act, disco/dance, and a complementary drink. It was a great, friendly and safe atmosphere. Well done to all the team at the pub who worked so hard to keep us all entertained. Fab evening

This is my local (correction “was”) went on New Year’s Eve. Staff make you feel they are doing YOU a favour, serving you a drink. Stopped serving at 6.30 pm. Emptied the premises & allowed people back in at 8pm when you paid them £20 a couple! Went to the Rising Sun down the road, warm welcome, friendly staff, great music and no entrance fee. Heard others complaining about the 5 ways, who won’t go back and have now lost customers.

Turned up at 2.20 asked if food was still being served Reply was yes, we ordered two drinks sat at table looking at menu two minutes later guy came to table and was told Sorry we are not serving food for an hour we have a big buffet to do!!! Would have been nice to be told that before we spent money on drinks and drove a fair way to get here...appalling

Sadly I was here for a loved ones funeral. The food we had was absolutely beautiful lots to choose from.all nicely made and presented....the lady and gentleman on the day were excellent. Thank you.

We come here a lot and it’s always great service, food and company. The menu has recently changed and everything is lovely and great value. Friday Karaoke and Wednesday quiz nights are always fun too x

Stopped here on way to funeral for food and drinks about 12:10. Chose from menu and ordered at bar, usual for any pub. Our dog was given treats and water whilst I was at the bar, from the manager. Within a quarter of an hour he was back with our meals. He was very attentive, returning to ask if everything was okay. And again to ask if we were ready for puddings. Both he and the lady who poured the drinks were polite and friendly. Great food and service!

The Fiveways is a large pub and there is not much in the way of decent food pubs in Hazel Grove, so this should be a gastro-pub that people flock to from the surrounding areas. It is not! We booked a table for 10 people last Sunday and arrived on time and sat down. After being sat for 20 minutes and nobody had come over to take drinks or food orders, we realised you must have to order at the bar. This is fine, although it would have been an idea for whowever showed us our table to inform us of the process. Referring to back to my comment about what this pub could be, it really should be table service. Just take a look at The Aviator in Woodford for an example of what it could be. Back to the service. Please bear in mind that there were 2 other large tables in at the same time, but for a pub this size on a Sunday lunch time, this is not busy. It took us a while to get served at the bar as there were onlt 2 people serving. Some items on the menu were not available. I have seen this issue on other reviews. It then took over an hour to get our food, which is not really good enough when it wasn't that busy. The food, when it did arrive was not of good quality. The Sunday roasts all had dry meat and overcooked vegetables and the mixed grill was all overcooked. The pigs in blankkets were undercooked. I can never understand a chef who sends out bacon that is not crispy and looks raw. Nobody wants bacon like that and its just laziness on the chefs part. As a lager drinker, the drinks selection is awful. I undertstand this is the brewery's decision and not the management, but to only stock your own lager on draught, especially when it is as poor as their "Crystal" and "Diamond" offerings, is enough to put me off from going ever again. Yes, they do a couple of bottles or Heineken or Moretti, but I want a pint. To think that these offerrings are anyway near good enough is just arrogance and a custom killing decision. This is highlighted by how quiet a pub this size, in this location is on a Sunday lunch. The food and the service is not good enough unfortunately, and for a lager drinker, the choice (or lack of) is enough to make me not want to return, which is a shame.

My wife and I were part of a large group that included young children. To be clear we weren't in the same party as the previous reviewer and our booking was on a Saturday.. In short, the overall feedback was that there were more hits than misses. The main agreement was that the kids should have been served first. It was how things happened when we were all younger. Though admittedly as time has changed has it become a requisite now to have to ask first than expect? The bar staff were polite, approachable and friendly. I can only comment on my wife's and my food. Her rump steak was slightly overcooked, it definitely wasn't medium and was darkened on top. My own gammon steak was surprisingly quite tough. I couldn't tell you if the mushrooms served with both dishes were button or open cup as they were served well cooked and very small.

Booked recently for an 18th birthday. From start to finish booking was easy and everything was explained really well including the food options. On the day it all went smoothly and the staff were brilliant. Especially Sam and Jordan. On the evening everything was ready and we had so many compliments on the food. I would highly recommend if you are looking for somewhere for your party/function. Big thanks to Danny & Mark too.

Penny pinching owner!!!!! Rude. Can’t seem to take a stock list properly as they always seem to be out of food, especially pizzas which was the only good thing going for them. Gave this place a good go, so not writing this review lightly, but after 5 visits each visit has got worse and worse. Won’t be bothering again.

Called in on spec and had the best haddock chips and peas. The fish was beautifully cooked and also loved the homemade apple crumble. If you’re looking for the best fish and chips in Stockport look no further

Wouldn't let me give "0" stars! Well where shall I begin £60 6 adults treated by my 85 yr old dad as it was 1st Xmas after loosing wife/mum Arrival no one to greet us, eventually taken to table Starters arrived no drinks B.I L's cold as he had to get drinks. Tiny, not enough toast with pate! awful Main!!! Processed turkey, Pigs in b/ts barley saw the oven raw,roasted parsnips!! thought they were chips, Roast pots well partly roasted! best thing was y/pudding! Sweet - cheese and biscuits cheese nice biscuits like mini poppadums,no butter, dad's Xmas pud tiny No offers of tea,coffee and/or minepies! Wait between starter and main abt an hour. Very disappointed obviously had to tell dad we loved it as he had paid for it. Not worth £10 let alone £60

My dad paid 60 pounds a head for us all as it's the first Christmas without mum. No one to greet us on arrival, finally got table, no one to take drinks order. Barely taken off coats when starters were hurriedly plonked down. Starters minute! Discovered on asking, get your own drinks at bar. Long wait, one person serving. Then an hour an a half til the Christmas meal served. Mostly lukewarm, packet beef, packet turkey, overcooked or undercooked veg. Bistro watery gravy with lumps. Puddings nothing special, in fact my dad was given a tiny sliver of Xmas pud. No offer of coffee or mints or mince pies. Not once did anyone ask if we needed anything, we were basically ignored. Appeared to be very short staffed and not overly friendly. I'm contacting the chain Joseph Holt to request my dad's money back. He's an 85 year old pensioner and this was an insult. Be warned

I have emailed the Five ways but they didn't respond to my email. I've been to two funeral lunches here this year and the same poor buffet was served both time including cold quiche. Their coffee was very weak instant rubbish. On a cold day in November they put the central heating on just before we arrive so the room was cold and we all stood around the radiators with our coats on. If the Fiveways management would like to contact me I would be able to advise them further.

We’ve had a family and friend event here today and they couldn’t have done enough for us . The buffet was beautiful and there was plenty of it , the staff were very friendly and accommodating. The conservatory area is an great place for an event of any kind, it’s private and a good size. We comfortably had about sixty people in there . So thank you to all the staff for helping make the day such a success ..

Visited here this weekend for the first time since moving to the area. Very friendly and very welcomed by some of the staff although one or two others not so friendly. Went to order a couple more drinks and heard them talking about what they have done and cant wait to finish work (yikes) i’m just relieved after hearing that conversation that they didn’t touch our food. We will return as the majority of staff seemed really nice but we will complain about the couple that were more interested in their weekend sherbet diving antics

We like to go to the fiveways for early lunches. Last time we went the food order was messed up resulting in my wife been brought a veggy offering despite ordering something completely different. They took it back only for them to come back saying it would be half hour wait! as they had a funeral buffet they were doing. My food  was sat on table. Despite offering a free drink as compensation, we decided to take back the veggy offering as there would be no meal.  Spoilt our view of the place and probably we will avoid from now on.  Whilst mistakes happen there was no owning of the problem and it should have been put to top of list to resolve as their mistake

I think this pub gets a lot of stick....they have had multiple managers over the past year or so and with covid -19 it doesn't help to maintain a consostent service.popped in here with family for lunch and was mere average ,however i did find the staff to be friendly and the decor and atmosphere relaxing.its very vary clean and food was served quick.the quality of the food is a little hot and miss as my husband steam was dry and the chips were re-heated but I had a beautiful lasagne....if your looking g fkr a quick bite to eat in a relaxing pub then this is your place to go.......

Went for a casual meal on getting back from holliday. Three mixed grills very dry and peppery. The taste lingers on but not in a good way. No pizza as not enough dough balls defrosted. Would never consider going back.

As usual, asked for a pizza, and miraculously the grumpy lady from spar decides they don't have any pizza dough.Which is weird, because just half an hour later, they must've found some, as they were cooking pizzas. I've had this excuse so often I suspect at times they just can't be bothered/haven't got the skill to make pizza. The social distancing rules are weird too. They left the food on the table next to us all, but then picked it up from directly in front of us. It's a great pub but jeez, they're not always a friendly, helpful bunch.

Called into the five ways for a quick pint after golf didn’t realise they now have a parking camera didn’t see any sign at the bar missed the one outside to be honest a quick glance just looks like it says parking for patrons only bar staff said nothing to point out you have to put your reg in a iPad but were happy to take my money. On completion of a walk nearby we decided to call in and have some lunch. Despite it being a Sunday and the carvery was available we decided to order off the main menu instead. We both had the Three Little Pigs which is basically a mixed grill. It arrived piping hot, of a decent sized portion and very tasty as was our puddings We found the service generally very good and if they had a decent pint of cider on draft (not Strongbow) it would probably have received full marks.

£100 parking fine. Very classy way to treat locals. Won't be in a rush to come back after paying that.

The trouble with the FiveWays is that they don’t look after their regulars!It’s our local but by the response of some of the new recruits of staff you wouldn’t think so I rarely see the manager(wouldn’t really know what he looks like)!They have got a big pizza station but twice now when I have tried to order they have run out of pizza balls to make the base!Prices of drinks have gone up again

Never had any issues here. Staff are friendly, good choice of drinks and food is always good. Carvery is also good and certainly value for money. Can be worth booking a table beforehand but not usually necessary.

Used to be really great and even now there’s still not much to complain about. Recently it seems that the parent company Joseph Holt has had a lot more influence for the worse. Did have the best garlic bread in Stockport, despite changing the recipe slightly it it still the best but that’s kind of the same for everything else, it just feels now like it’s never quite as good as it was. Having said all that it’s still my go to, still the best. Great atmosphere, fair prices for great food.

This place has really gone down hill. Choice of food during the week was a bag of whotsis or peanuts. The pub is filthy. Dust everywhere, sticky floors and dirty toilets. If by any chance you’ve booked Christmas dinner I would cancel it

Visited last week, end November, had the sausage mash and peas, nice and tasty, reasonable price, but nothing special. Went with intention of having a carvery which wasnt available. Disappointed, I hadn't been to Fiveways for a while but I used to enjoy their carvery. I like to pick and choose my own veg. Hope the carvery is back on the menu soon.

We booked the Fiveways for a large gathering after a funeral. We had looked at other places locally but the Fiveways was the best location and their menu appeared to be a great selection too.When we arrived we were welcomed and shown to the area they had set aside for our party of 45 people (approx). It was prefect. Warm, and sociable but still plenty of room to mingle.The food came out on time and all I can say is wow! There was so much food, all delicious and lots of choice.My father suffers from coeliac (gluten intolerance) and they even did him an amazing gluten free platter all to himself. Again with lots of choice.The staff were really, really helpful and friendly and Mark the manager was superb.Well done to everyone at the Fiveways that helped to make a sad day so special.Thank you!

We booked a room and buffet for a family funeral party and I must say, having never eaten here before, I was rather apprehensive - especially with all the other organising there was to do with the funeral. However, Mark and his team were superb! The buffet was fabulous and there was more than enough for all. Staff were so polite and helpful and they even catered especially for one of our family who is coeliac and needed gluten free food. It was thoroughly enjoyed by all and the price was really good too! Don’t always have to book but advisable at weekends. Good for meals or just drinks. Very good free car 🚘 park with a very short walk.

We visited here for a meal to say goodbye to one of the members of the family who was going back abroad. An extremely busy Saturday evening, but we managed to get a table. Considering the restaurant was so busy with more coming in for reserved tables, they managed to serve us food within a 45 minute timescale, which I was quite surprised that. The food was nice and decent value as well. A very pleasant place to have a relaxed meal out.

This is now in serious decline. I understand their decision to remove Football coverage is based on the high cost levied by Sky. This is probably true BUT this was one of the few things bringing in the "few" customers it had. It is obvious all of those have now migrated to the Rising Sun. I cannot help but feel that the real blame for its overall decline lies with Holts. Here you have a pub which has all the potential of being a community location- what actually exists is a large building which has dedicated over half its floor space to a soulless eating area - serving mediocre food at best in a location where it is being beaten hands down by the competition (Almond Pubs) It is evident the existing "management" are suffering from low moral as is evidenced by the poor level of service in the bar areas. Why can they not compete?- the reason lies in the name - Almond Family Pubs. The family has a strong vested interest in it being a success and maintaining standards. If you have poorly paid - poorly trained staff and struggling management with little or no incentive - there can only be one result - that is the Fiveways.

Visited on a busy Sunday stress began with my crying child and I was just hoping for it to stop ASAP. Andrea was lovely and went to her house (I think it was nearby) came back with balloons for my child! My child stop crying and I could finally enjoy my time. Thank you Andrea you saved my Sunday!

Came here this afternoon for a carvery, and it was the slowest service. There was barely any sauces left at the counter when I asked they said they’d be topped up in a min... they took too long. The queue for the carvery was horrendous, worse than anywhere I have been before. Will not be coming back here.

The fiveways can be a great pub, and when it opened, for a year, the food was amazing and it was always heaving and a lovely place to be.

Went on bank holiday Monday, it wasn’t busy at all. Carvery looked like it had been there all day, the meat was that dry it went to dust when it was being carved. Roast potatoes were raw, hard veg. A queue of us had to wait with our plates in our hands for 15 minutes just for the gravy which resulted in our food turning cold. When it came it was like pouring boiling water over our meal. I asked to refill my plate due to it being cold, I had to join the back of the queue which meant there was nothing stocked up again when I reached being served. No organisation what so ever.

I came here with my family for a meal on Sunday. The food was really tasty and the portions were quite big. After visiting a few restaurants in the area close by and was disappointed by them I feel this restaurant is by far the best. I will def come here again and I will be recommending it to my family and friends.

Came in on Wednesday night having just moved to the area, function in the library, so thought there might be a wait on food but sat down and after perusing a very delightful menu we ordered our meals our selection of fish and chips, steak and ale pie, Mediterranean chicken salad and a ultimate bbq burger. Waiting time around 20 mins which isn't too bad any quicker and you'd assume it had been in the microwave, food was piping hot and we all left empty plates, no room for dessert maybe next time, and will definitely sample some of the Joseph Holts products on our next visits, special mention to the young manager with glasses very polite and courteous.

The Fiveways is a spacious and relaxed Joseph Holt family pub. Good family pub -style menu plus Carvery available. Good choice of tasty desserts (if you still have room!) all washed down with a nice cold glass of Crystal Gold lager. Fab

Ate here on a busy Friday evening. Staff were friendly and efficient. Jackfruit curry - hot and tasty and ideal meal for vegetarian. Moroccan chicken salad also very tasty.
