Went for Friday as its fish and chip day. As sign outside, showed it was their special for the day. The chips and Mushy peas were average, hard to get wrong really. However the fish not so good. The batter was crispy on outside then wet and slimy inside, looked horrible. It also contained the thinnest piece of fish. It cost £10.30 clearly not worth it. However the service and drinks were good. But as we mainly went for food 2* rating for me. Should have been a sign when only a handful of people were in pub.

Very disappointing. Supposed to be mobility friendly but my wife had to get out of her wheelchair 3 times before we got to the room which was at the end of a long narrow corridor, bathroom had a tiny sink with no plug, light above not working, no toilet roll holders, no rubber mats in shower so very slippery, difficult to get into shower not much room, we couldn't control the shower water heater, very hot or boiling was the choice, we heard other people complaining about that, extractor fan not working, light above beds not working, carpet badly stained, bottom of beds stained, no electric plugs except for one if you moved a heavy side cupboard out, couldn't fill kettle as sink was too small to get it in.

Called in in a whim and ended up having small carvery. Table service. I had turkey and partner beef. Both delicious. Think small carvery £6.50. Yorks pud a bit leathery and sad but otherwise a lovely meal and plenty of it.

We had my wife's 40th and my daughter's 21st here on 24/11/18. All I can say is wow! Thank you to all the staff, Dj and the hotel owners. From check in, through to the party and until check out, a completely worry free experience. Great service, food was excellent, rooms though cheap are better than most higher priced ones in the area. Every aspect of our big day was looked after and after reading a previous review saying how bad it was I simply cant believe it and think there is more to it. This is the 5th party we have been to here and 3rd time we have stayed, never an issue as the staff are so quick to help when you need anything. Even helping the singer with his stuff in and out. Once again thank you all and well done to all the staff involved, a true credit to the hotel xx

never had problems when attending functions hear, the carvery is amazing and the drinks are a fare price. The one thing i dont like about this place is i wanted to do a charity event and at the time this was the only place available, they wanted £200 for the room and that didnt include a DJ, we paid £100 deposit which was non refundable, luckily we had another venue contact us and gave us the room for free along with the DJ as well. was really disgusted that they would charge that amount for a charity event

we were visiting relatives in Rotherham and decided to pop into Fitzwilliam Arms for lunch.I had not been in the place for about 10 yrs and was pleasantly surprised at the change. We ordered our food and had a couple of games of pool whilst waitng. We were the only people eating and did not have long before food was served by the pleasant young lady behind the bar. We ordered to OAP meals and was not expecting much but were surprised by the size of the meals and the quality.2 scampi chips and salad and 2 sponge and custards for £5.95 each very good value and will be definitely be calling in again sometime.

Stood waiting 25 minutes for carvery and still 6 people ahead of us. All that remained meat wise was the scraps of beef. They'd ran out of plates, half of veg, and obviously meat as mentioned. There was little to no staff. One bar staff - had to wait 15 minutes to even get the ticked for carvery. And the pub wasn't even busy! Lots of empty tables and was rather quiet. Have never been to such a bad place. We ended up sipping our drinks in queue and leaving before we were half way in queue. Waste of time total disappointment.

Just had Sunday lunch which was absolutely fabulous. Quite full when we arrived but managed to get a table near the open windows which was a godsend in the heat! Choice of 3 meats, stuffing, Yorkshire pudding and a good selection of freshly cooked vegetables. The gravy was thick and meaty and tasted delicious. All staff very polite and attentive and made sure tables were cleared and wiped as soon as people left ready for next customers. Well worth a visit 😊

I took my family to the Fitzwilliam Arms Hotel on a Sunday to have their carvery. The staff were no where to be seen, the carvery itself consisted of one joint and very little else. It was worse than a staff canteen and I am still totally embarrassed when I reflect on the visit!

We went for my Uncles 70th Birthday for Sunday lunch, we had booked a room in advance and we were all looking forward to our meal. 15 minutes after we got there we were informed that the meat was running out so we needed to hurry and get something to eat so then 25 of us started to que up for our meals. The meat finally ran out and what people did have on their plates was cold, grisly and fatty - not to mention the dry veg that had been stood there all day. When they had ran out of meat they continuted to offer tickets for the carvery (full price) despite having no meat and hardly any veg that people had began to refuse to eat. 5 people from the party didn't end up eating anything and that's including my Uncle who was celebrating his 70th Birthday.During all of this my baby filled her nappy so off I popped to change her to discover there wasn't anywhere to do so, so there I was in this "Family friendly hotel" on my hands and knees in the ladies toilets changing my baby. So if you enjoy eating a carvery with no meat and cold veg and would like to change your child on the floor of some dirty toilets then this is the place for you - if not please avoid at all costs.

We have just stopped at the hotel for 2 nights in a family room, the room over looked the courtyard there the party took place, the music was loud and everyone outside, it would not have been so but but when you have a little one there is only so much notice they can sleep through. When the doors we closed at 12 that was much better but then you had everyone been so noisy trying to get in there rooms. Then at 3:05am people in the corridor were arguing this was 1 scary and 2 loud 3 no one to get in touch with to let them know what was happening. Also in the room was a fuse box on the wall that was buzzing loud that controlled lights and plugs. The room smelt damp and cold. My friend had her wedding there, there was a mix up with music for the night, so no Dj and they said well there is nothing we can do, 2 bar staff for over 140 guests, when I asked if we could have the Dj from next door as there was 6 people in and the TV music Chanel was on I was told no and there was nothing they could do and no one to speak to about that matter just young people under 25 and there were left to sort it out. Not happy and won't be staying there ever again.

We booked an overnight stay as we were here for a party. Check in was speedy and the lady who checked us in was very welcoming and friendly, and the reception area is lovely. Our room was clean and spacious. We paid extra for breakfast, which was freshly cooked and served with a smile. The breakfast room was in a separate room in the pub, and overlooks the courtyard - again a lovely setting.

Visited for the carvery at around 7pm. Two for £10. Empty apart from a few people drinking. The Bain Marie ( hot cupboard ) was steaming and when I looked at the food it appeared dry. It was. Gammon, beef or turkey. We both had turkey. Yorkshires ( rock hard ) cabbage ( didn't have it as it looked so unappealing, carrots ( ok ) roast potatoes ( rock hard ) stuffing balls ( dry ), mash ( if you can call it mash, dry and tasteless) sprouts ( burnt and stuck to the bottom of the metal container ) gravy ( ok) . Nice décor. Staff indifferent. On speaking to a member of staff about the food was told it is frozen Yorkshires, quell surprise! The food is not home-cooked I suspect only the meat. It's a shame because it could be so nice if the management took a look at what people want. Give your kitchen staff the chance to shine and let them cook 'proper' food.Won't be back.

Arrived for wake of a family member. Carpark cordoned off for a bonfire day after. Forced into small "tap room" as main room had carvery on...no customers though. Buffet was appalling. Upsetting for close family who were so embarrassed. Dirty cups. No cutlery. Totally unacceptable. Surly and unresponsive staff in a very dingy environment. Stay clear.

On entering the place was empty at lunchtime, which should have told us something. The meal was mediocre at best, microwaved pie which stuck to the plate. Won't be eating here again.

Called in today for a meal and it was carvery. We weren't fussy on what we ate so we decided to give it a try. Whilst ordering at the bar a lady was complaining. We were given a ticket by the barmaid, and weren't told what to do, or where we could eat our meal, anyway we picked a table and got our food. Not really up to much. The beef was dry and the pork was fatty. Whilst eating our meal the barmaid constantly complained to another customer how her hours had been cut and there wasn't even any music on to dull out her moaning! All in all not a good experience.

To the owner of the fairways, you do not deserve your staff. The fairways is MASSIVELY understaffed, the staff are rushing round like something demented, one person trying to do the work of 3. Sunday lunchtime - one bar staff serving drinks and doing orders for lunch. One young girl in the restaurant serving meals , clearing tables and wiping tables and setting them PLUS taking bookings. The chef, cooking meals, filling up the veg containers, serving lunch and carving meat. We have been going for Sunday lunch every week for over 2 years and as staff have left they have not been replaced. Something needs to be done before they start losing custom.
