Just spent a lovely night at the accommodation, Fitzherbert Farmhouse, for this pub. The rooms were so beautifully furnished with every consideration from Nespresso Coffee to a welcome gift for our dog catered for. The staff could not have been any more pleasant and made sure we were comfortable throughout our stay. The surroundings in the pub had a great feel and were matched by the tasty food. Can not recommend this pud/accommodation more highly and would definitely return.

They turned us away. Friends travelling from a distance away to join us for a special occasion so wished to secure a table well in advance for 7 of us plus a dog. They wouldn’t take the booking. They’d have taken us if there’d been just one more person in our party. Will not be using this place again as they can’t guarantee that we won’t miss out on a table. Senseless.

Love it here! Had a lovely meal for four with excellent steaks, lovely chicken fillet and fish and chips along with a beautiful chocolate brownie. We have never been disappointed so don’t quite understand some of the comments on here. Far superior to many other local pub groups where food is bought in.

It sounds a great pub/restaurant, and it was when I last visited a few years back, but I tried to book a table for three today and even offered to pay a deposit to secure a table and I was told a flat 'no' you can't pre-book a table for less than eight. We now have size discrimination! This was meant to be a birthday celebration for a party of three but I couldn't take the risk I wouldn't get a table on the night. How crazy is their booking system, even when I was prepared to pay a deposit to secure a table? You hear local businesses say they are struggling may be this is one of the the reasons why, zero customer friendly policies.

First time for a Sunday lunch at the Fitz. Absolutely delicious. Everything is home- cooked with lovely fresh veg (spring greens, celeriac and carrot puree and slow cooked red cabbage) roasties were great and a lovely Yorkshire with sirloin beef. Highly recommended. I doubt there's anywhere that does a Sunday dinner so good locally. Good friendly service too. No long waits. We'll be back.

This place was a great find. The menu is varied and good value. Starters of squid and cauliflower fritters were excellent. Main courses of pork belly and seafood chowder were equally as good. Couple this with a good wine list what more could you ask for? Will definitely be back.

Our spontaneous drive to find somewhere to eat was a very pleasant experience! We took a chance and arrived at Fitzherbert without a booking, luckily you didn't have to book here during lockdown and a table was available for us on their terrace. Staff were really welcoming and surprisingly honest! We asked if a side order would be enough for 2 people and instead of an 'upsell' what you'd normally expect, our lovely server said why don't we order 1 and see how we get on and can always order another one if we were still hungry!Fitzherbert does really good, home cooked, quality restaurant food and are modest about it. I love places like this. Not trying to be something it's not, in a lovely setting. We will definitely be back!

Rating for service on a scale of one to ten by the waiting on staff is eight. However, management service for a constructive conversation is poor, to the point of avoidance, as I’m too busy. My request to question certain items on my billing account was complacent and I felt ignored, hence I felt it was a management concern for it to be discussed further.. staff informed me he was too busy to leave the bar. Management, in my view are there for their professional skills beyond waiting on staff to deal with issues for and on behalf of the business. It’s a shame that this occurrence left our visit to F Arms with great disappointment. Owners must realise that poor representation becomes a topic of conversation with others.

On my last night out before lockdown, I thought I'd enjoy an evening at a local pub. I can do without being ignored, sarcasm and blame. (all from short black haired barmaid, again!) Im disappointed but not surprised. When staff use a bar as their own and frequently don't pay for their food and drink; then the next step is the customers not being looked after as they should. I won't be going in here again.

We've stopped here for lunch on a number of occasions en route North and it has never disappointed. It's a huge pub with many dining areas, all nicely socially distanced. Service was brisk without being obtrusive. We shared their tremendous pub platter with pork pies, prawns, scotch eggs, pate - you name it - and great value too washed down with a couple of glasses of wine. Wish it was nearer to London!

Went a few days ago for lunch. On entry met by a very helpful man who led us to our seat. We sat on the terrace at the back. Went back inside to order food and drinks and was told that the drinks would be brought to the table. We ordered the sharing platter with a side of chips and a dessert each. Following a 15 minute wait I went back in to ask about the drinks, the lady couldn't find us on the system but a copy of our order had been left on the bar.Back outside the drinks and food arrived together, not really ideal. We honestly could not fault the food, everything was lovely. Good job really because nobody asked us if everything was ok, or if we needed anything else. Once we'd finished our plates were left in front of us for over half an hour, I tried to make it as obvious as possible that we'd finished, even to the point of wandering around the car park having a smoke. If we hadn't ordered dessert and paid upfront we would have left. I have never felt so forgotten or neglected in a restaurant. Such a shame because our food was lovely and the food coming out for others looked lovely.

It's strange they have two Tripadvisor sites. Regardless, we had a takeaway during lockdown here and found it quite nice so we decided to sit in. I wasn't impressed that none of the staff check your temperature or even wear any protection. Decor is lacklustre, some of the seats are very old and very creaky/weak. My relative had the liver and bacon, the liver tasted horrible. I myself had the Fish and Chips which was disappointing as I expected the food to be better than Spoons at this price. I personally wouldn't return. But the staff seemed polite enough!

We have eaten in this pub on many occasions, unfortunately this will be our last time. The quality of the food was extremely poor, with the steak and ale pie being served burnt around the edges. The burger was completely inedible. Whilst I appreciate all restaurants have problems on a rare occasion, it looks like either the chef has changed or there is a complete lack of interest in the quality of food presented. I’m afraid there were no mitigating circumstances as it was a quiet evening with very few diners, no excuse for being over worked in the kitchen.

Visited here a few years ago and it was brilliant, couldn’t fault it. Sadly not the case this evening. Mains took an age to arrive and when they did one was cold and had to be taken back. When the mains were brought I asked for another drink, never came and when asked if everything was okay the member of staff was advised of this and brought me a drink on the house which was appreciated. Ordered desserts and after 30 minutes of waiting asked for them to be refunded and left. This place has a great location and decor, the food when came was nice, however the price does not justify the poor service and I can see from the previous reviews I am not alone. This place needs a manager in charge and not just a bunch of kids left to muddle through. Waited for an hour for our starters. Not even a piece of lemon on the seafood platter.... very poor. Here’s an idea....Perhaps They could tell customers what is ‘off the menu’ before they look through the menu, rather than waiting for them to order it (both scampi and bread) and it’s quite unbelievable to hear that they had no bread for any of the 5 gluten free menu starters. “We didn’t get a delivery today” we were told. Here’s another idea.... pop to the co-op in Eccleshall and buy some! And a better attitude from some of staff would not go amiss. To book a table in advance for 8 people and a dog and then be told on arrival that we couldn’t have the table because we had a dog (very small & quiet) was very disappointing. Not the best 80th birthday celebration for my mother! They should be ashamed; we feel very let down.

Sunday roast disappointing , we dine here a lot , living in the village we support its success. Unfortunately the menu has changed and is not very appetising, calf’s liver , chick pea curry , more fish and more fish . The buttermilk chicken has been taken off which was gorgeous! Late afternoon Sunday diner visit. Arrived just after 6, so there were a few spare tables. This pub is a great location, and the décor and ambience is just lovely. Party of 5, so we were directed into the "restaurant" part of the pub, but it was so dark and dingy I just couldnt stay there, so found a table in the main pub, and grabbed a spare chair... Good selection of food, and the menu catered for every taste... Bar staff, attentive and really helpful and you just couldnt fault them at all... Great so far. Ordered food, and waited..and waited, and waited... About an hour after ordering, our food arrived, it wasnt hot, but it wasnt cold, so I didn't want to make a fuss.... no one came and asked our table if everything was ok but hey ho.. After eating our main I went to the bar to order a dessert... To be fair, I was told there was a 15 minute wait, as they were a chef down that evening. OK, I understand, but after half an hour, still no service, I had to go to the bar and complain.... Our desserts arrived and the two ice cream portions we ordered were almost totally defrosted, and totally watery... complained to the waitress who served them but nothing, she just blanked me... On settling up at the end of the evening, I asked for these two desserts to be taken off the bill, which the staff did with no quibble... The issue with this place is not the front of house staff, but with the kitchen, and management. From some of the reviews, and my experience eating here previously, its a management issue, or lack of it. Front of house get it spot on...

I am a regular to this place at least once a week I eat there. This time I went with family for a Sunday lunch and found the roast beef to be dry, a very cold Yorkshire like it had just been defrosted and the roast potatoes rather on the cook side. No one asked if the meal was alright so I made a point of telling the waitress who collected the plates from the table to which she replied “I will let the chef know” and that was it. Now normally I am more than happy with the food here. On this occasion they were extremely busy and the food was a let down. Also the sticky toffee pudding was just warm.

My grandparents hate complaining about food but I encouraged them to ask for a new one. A new one was asked for / delivered, however it was replaced by an equally rock hard piece of gammon. To my surprise my grandad did mention this when paying at the bar but I was disappointed to discovered the meal wasn’t taken off the bill - thought this would have been a given. I went here on a Monday evening for dinner with relatives, and ordered the scotch egg starter, and the sea bass as a main. The scotch egg was quite tasty- if a little small on portion size- but the real horror came with the sea bass. Paying £16 for a main dish- and remember, this is not table service, but you place your order at the bar- should leave you with a reasonable hope of being satisfied by the end of the meal. The sea bass I had was the smallest and thinnest piece of fish I have ever had in a restaurant/pub. It was about 6 inches long, and barely two-finger widths wide, with a very meagre accompaniment of vegetables, with a mound of sauce swimming in the dish- and that was it. It looked like a child's portion, and in comparison to other establishments in the locale- such as the Wayfarer and Swan with Two Necks- was less than half the fish you would have received as a diner there. This is not good enough. This is the second time I have reviewed the Fitzherbert Arms, and both times they have been found wanting. I wanted to give them 2 stars, as the decor is nice, staff are pleasant, and the scotch egg at least was tasty- but the meagreness of the main dish at such a price was daylight robbery and as such 1 star is warranted. It is a shame- this pub could be so much better given its location, appearance and clientele- but it continues to disappoint and there needs to be a real sort out here to lift its standards to those of other establishments locally.

The previous couple of meals here have been pretty average but this recent one will definitely be the very last. Toby Carvery beef dinners are far better and at a fraction of the cost. We ordered various meals between the six of us and no one was happy. Beef dinners were poor quality and tasted like an old school dinner, the beef burger was tough as old boots and the fish and chips, well I've had better from the chippy. The bar staff wouldn't even accept that their cask ale wasn't right, although in fairness they did offer to change it. As for the service, with the exception of a couple of the girls behind the bar who are always professional, the best way to describe it in one word is 'apathetic'. A great pity really because we have been calling in here every month or so for the last three or four years.

This pub is local to me and is very popular. Bookings for fewer than 8 are not accepted so at times can be busy. The atmosphere is very friendly and casual. Having tasted a number of items on the limited menu they have always been tasty and well presented.

The Fitz is a fantastic pub. Great beer, food, service and atmosphere. It’s won multiple awards and rightfully so. Highly recommend this place for a meal, or just a couple of pints in the snug on a Friday night.

Stopped at the Fitzherbert Arms for lunch - a great steak sandwich. An open fire on a cold day and warm, friendly welcome made for a pleasant hour.

This is a beautifully appointed village pub that is well worth a visit. On offer is a good range of real ale in addition to the usual drinks offering.

We were passing through the little village and spotted a beautiful pub, so we decided to call in for a spot of lunch. Wow it was beautiful everyone was so very friendly. We ordered off the lunch menu, which was reasonably priced. Food arrived it was delicious freshly cooked nothing was to much trouble for the staff. It’s a great little gem and a must if your passing.

Extremely poor service from very disinterested staff who spent most of the time chatting behind the bar. Cold food after at least 45mins wait no cutlery had to go to the bar for that. Will not be revisiting

Had a Christmas lunch as part of a staff lunch out. Great food and service. Would recommend the roast turkey - fantastic tender meat along with excellent roasties and stuffing. One if the best roast turkey meals I e eaten out. Also enjoyed the fish cake starter. Good at atmosphere and lovely interior too.

Meal on Saturday 1st December for a group of 19. Despite the fact that we gave them our order at least 2 days in advance and everyone was seated by the allotted time - 7:30 - they didn't serve the first course until 8:15. The last course was served at 10:30! Three hours for a pre-booked meal is totally unacceptable and, although I pushed to support the local business, I will not be using this place again.

My Wife and Sister are twins, so we decided to celebrate together, with family. It is very clear that they were understaffed, and there didn't seem to be anyone with authority. We were not shown to the table, we were told where it was, when we wanted a drink, we had to keep going to the bar. We were never asked how the meal was at any point, and unfortunately, one of the Sunday Dinners was served with the worst piece of Beef on a plate, you wouldn't feed it to a dog . After the meal we waited and waited, nobody asked us if we wanted a sweet, so we got up to leave. When we went to pay, they had left the bad meal on the bill, and nobody had informed anyone that a meal had to be deducted.

We're on a mission to eat in all the pubs in the Cheshire Cat chain, so had to try the Fitzherbert. Their slow cooked beef rib blew me away - probably the best dish I've had from this group. A really rich sauce and just the right amount of horseradish in the mash - perfect.

We went here for lunch one Saturday, just for a change. We arrived early and had no problem finding a table. I was last here a few years ago and the establishment had been refurbished a fair bit. It's gone from being a "pub", to a reasonably upmarket eatery. Dogs are allowed in specific areas.

Visited for lunch ordered game stew from specials board. The stew was devoid of any game and was very poor. The fish and chips which was fine but the tea ordered with it never arrived. At no point were we asked if the meal was ok. Left feeling hungry. At the prices charged the whole experience was very poor. The pub surroundings were pleasant but we won't be going back.

Went to this venue for a small birthday celebration. Nice environment, menu challenging, all drinks and food had to be ordered from the bar even when eating. Several desserts not available, reason given was the weekend had been busy so we asked for coffees instead, only cafetiere coffee available. Staff were ok but not particularly friendly.

I love the decor and ambience of this pub which is why we revisited, however although the staff are really nice something is not going right, maybe its the kitchen but 1.5 hours before the starter arrives is sadly just too long and left us feel disappointed and frustrated. This may not relate to service, as they can't serve if it is not ready? The restaurant was not full, food was served hot and was good, 2 hours for a main course??

My partner has a weekly art class at Swynnerton church hall. This usually entails a lunch meeting at the Fitzherbert. Always a good selection of lite bite or main luncheon menu. Whatever your choice the food is freshly prepared and served by the helpful and attentive staff. All in all well worth a visit.

Another lovely meal! The new season menu provided lots of choice, the butternut squash rissotto with Wensleydale cheese was particularly delicious. We will be returning in the near future.

Lovely pub and decor, friendly staff but we waited well over an hour for our meal - only 2 of us- having had to remind them twice. Clearly forgot us. Initially apologised and said it was being plated, asked again 15 mins later and told we shouldnt have been told it was being plated as it was only just about to be. We were given a complementary drink. However when the meal came mine was so disappointing. Very small chips, looked like the scraps of a batch, i wouldnt have served them. The beef pie was awful, meat ok, pastry like stodgy cardboard, for £14. We wont be going back.

Ordered a roll to be made up. Lady had a phlegmy cough, didn’t wear gloves and proceeded to wipe her nose on the back of her hand before putting the ham on my roll…..come on please. I couldn’t eat it, you’ll find it in the bin outside
