Ordered large cod and chips. Fish was OK size, but the chips, OMG, literally got about 15 chips. Could not believe it when I got it home. Disgusting considering the cost. Many others have complained about the same thing on local groups. Sort it out!

Burned scampi, large haddock cut in half and sold a large portion Not the first time they halve a large portion and sell as a full one.

Most miserable staff, took 5 minutes to even ask me if I was being served. She was the only one there and knew I wasn't. Looks as if online orders take priority over walk ins. Chip portion sizes are small even when ordering large! Over priced. When my order was taken, she said 5 minutes which turned into 15! Avoid

Popped in today for a portion of chips as in the area. I’m so critical of chip shops, particularly when they leave the chips too long and they go soft and soggy. The chips today were honestly some of the very best chip shop chips that I have had. Seemed freshly cooked, weren’t droopy or soggy or greasy. They even served them in a box as I’d requested, which in my opinion makes a big difference. I even made the effort to get out of my car and popped my head round the door to give them my appreciation. Nice young girl serving. Thank you.

I've been very disparaging about this place in the past and based on previous experiences I had decided to no longer be a customer. Anyway, quite some time later I decided to try it for lunch last week. Half chicken and chips lunch meal for £5.99 which I've had before and been very disappointed with the quality of the chips. However, last week they were nigh on perfect, excellent quality - I actually wondered if the place had been taken over by new people. So to better confirm the experiment I chanced it again yesterday, hake and chips for £4.99. Damn that was a very decent portion and surprisingly once again, the chips were spot on. I should have taken a photo. My opinion of the place has risen exponentially. The web pre-order service was always very handy. Now in saying all that, their normal prices are the worst in town and I'll likely never visit outside of lunch hours.

Been here several times and the cod and chips special is really good quality. It’s not greasy, the batter is crispy, and the chips are fresh. No idea why this place gets bad reviews - much better than other local chippies that we’ve tried. Will definitely be back.

£3.35 for a portion of chip and they were awe full. Soooo shocked that I did gave the chance to tell him what to do with them.

Terrible Essex food at west end prices, wouldn’t mind if it actually tasted nice, staff need a rocket up there backsides as they are awfully slow.

Just had cod and chips from fishnchicken in Shotgate - cod was terrible was really dry batter was rubbery and wasn’t even very hot - think it had been sitting there for ages - seemed really small but actually didn’t care because it tasted so bad

Lovely medium cod and chips, fish batter was nice and crisp, fish very flavourful. Chips excellent. Not sure why it has recent bad reviews, food and service was perfect.

The chips are not very nice from here. We’ve got takeaways many times from here thinking that maybe we were unlucky but they are always terrible. Either undercooked or black potatoes. We have been so disappointed. We now go a bit further to one of the other chip shops in town where the chips are nicer and the portions are more generous.

Just got 1/2 chicken and chips and throw half in bin. The chicken must have been in the cabinet all day as half the chicken was dry and nearly crispy and the chips had that many green and brown rotting bits half the chips went in the bin. Looks like no care or checking being carried out.

We have ordered a lot from here over the years. The last few meals though have been very disappointing but I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went this week but it was the worst we have had and tasted terrible. We had chicken and chips. It all tasted like fish first of all and the chicken tasted just awful. So very disappointed and will sadly not be back :(

No rock eel, say they cannot get it, although other chip shops have it. The cod was ok but the chips were disgusting, small bits and pieces, luke warm and manky I would rather have popped to the local Chinese and got their chips which are fantastic and always fresh unlike here where I am sure they were yesterdays left overs

Asked for 2 x large at £3.20 each. Been using a different chippie during lockdown but this is just around the corner..I questioned the staff stating I asked for 2 large and they said that's correct..They should wear balaclavas because I just got robbed. If your on a diet..this is the place for you..and they werent great either!!

Extremely overpriced for the portions sizes given and tasteless chips ... and staff normally forgetting to pack things ordered, of which you return home and it’s then to late to prove

Kids meal with around half a dozen chips. Not going back. I was warned by others guess I must listen in the future.

Had battered sausage & chips with onion rings tonight... The onion Rings were dark brown, basically burnt & crunched when bitten in too ... chips never have any taste, very bland and for the cost of a portion, size you get is terrible unlike both chips shops in the town centre!!

The careless staff had no idea about any orders or what products they even had in the shop. Staff member serving even made it clear she had no clue about a customers order when they had left the shop and said she hopes she had given him the right order. Food was distasteful.

Avoid !!!!!! I ordered a LARGE chips and see the picture that’s what I got for £6.80 NEVER going back and all I’ve heard is bad things about this place

I must confess that I don't have takeaway fish n chips too often. Most of the time I find the fish too greasy. Tonight however, me and my family all agreed it was simply delicious. 3 of us had cod - large, medium and small. Each piece was a decent size and cooked to perfection. Lovely crisp batter. My daughter also had some curry sauce with her chips and said it was the best she had ever tasted. I had to try some - and I have to agree!We also had a burger, some gherkins and mushy peas - all delicious.I'd must also sing the praises of the staff working there. All too often these days kids are given a tough time but the greeting we received was extremely friendly and cheerful. Over-all, a really enjoyable experience - even though it was just a rake away. Highly recommended

Always disappointed with the food here,has all the potential for being great ,but it’s the little things that are important ,chips are always Luke warm either manky brownish or under cooked. The fish is ok they generally cook this while you wait .Curry sauce is so lumpy. The mushy peas are ok.they cram it all into a small paper bag ,which gives out by the time you get home.There is another fish n chicken in Wickford which is better, All in all it’s just ok.

Where do I start! Manky oil being used, chips soft and pale yellow. The packaging was better than the food wrapped in it, I can only imagine that’s why my order was so expensive! Never again....

Burnt old chips that tasted of oil and chicken overdone! This has happened before but stupidly I decided to give it another try... really wish I hadn’t now.

Never received such terrible customer service. I’m actually amazed., your staff don’t know your products and also manners. The young girl who served me was the rudest person I’ve had the misfortune to have met. And the Guy cooking was on his phone and the pair of them was talking about their plans. The brioche buns was stale and the chicken was over cooked .

Didn't like the food or the portion size when this first opened .however the food quality is now very good and quite tasty . They will cook things to order as well. And easy to park outside

Generally we get really good food from this Chip Shop and not bad portions either.

This place can be a bit unpredictable but the chips this evening were lovely. Curry sauce was nice an thick and hubby ate all of his cod (always a good sign!) Clean shop, polite staff.

Today I went to get a potion of chips to take away . When I arrived one person behind counter obviously making up an order the other person hovering with a pen in hand. The person making up order finished it put it on top of hot plates and walked off . The other person completely ignored me and starting writing. How rude not a word of sorry ( be with you in a minute) . I stood there sometime in the end I walked out, I do not like have the Micky taken out of me. They have lost my business and I would not recommend them to anybody.

we had 2 large cod and chips, fish was average , certainly not good quality, chips were soggy and the price was expensive , I don't mind paying for quality food, but this was not.

This place isn’t as good as other fish n chickens. Chicken very greasy and not good. Fish not much better. Such a shame we used to go to the one in Hutton once a week when we lived there and that ones brilliant.

Nicely cooked chips, good light batter on the fish and nice savaloy (not that you can go wrong with a sav). All packed in paper so the food doesn’t sweat on the way home.

you can't go wrong with the fish and chips here, very tasty. the take away it self is also always kept clean so you can ensure that their hygiene is very good.

We use this for a cod and chips or 1/2 chicken and chips when we are pushed and need a feed.. Does the job, staff friendly and location convenient..

No sé por qué voy a este lugar. Cada vez que hagas es una decepción amarga. Hoy pagué alrededor de £7 para el peor bacalao y patatas fritas que he comido. El bacalao estaba seco y el bateador grasienta. Era como si hubiera sido estar...

Obtienes lo que pagas. Esta es la calidad de la comida. A menudo nos comprar un pollo asado mientras spit para llevar a casa. Mucho mejor que el supermercado tiene para ofrecer.

En general, buena comida y servicio, pero sólo tengo una queja, y que a veces las patatas fritas pueden ser realmente irresistible.

This is supposed to be an award winning chip shop . All I can say is there must be a lot of pretty bad chip shops if this is award winning . The chips were the worst ever , looked like they had been recooked 20 times . Disgusting and won't be back .

I moved to Wickford in November 2014 and since this time I have visited Fish'n'Chicken on numerous occasions! Each time the customer service and food have been great!

I have always been happy with the food and service. Bit confused with other reviews, i think portions are generous. You get what you pay for, i think it is good value.

With our chip shop of choice in Wickford closed over Christmas, it was a case of visiting the one just round the corner (namely, Fish'n'Chick'n).Our order came to £17.00 (have never paid more than £14.00 for the equivalent at our "usual"), which means that prices are between 10-20% more expensive than elsewhere. Additionally (and it is unclear why) our order was wrapped and then left on top of the fryer until the rest of the order was ready a few minutes later ~ thankfully the order was still hot when we got home, which is only a minute away. The "large" portion of chips also struggled to go between us (again, elsewhere, the large portion seems "bottomless").Needing to visit here (our chip shop "of last resort") from time to time highlights why we do not use it on a regular basis, despite being by far and away the closest option.

Every Friday we go to this Fish and Chip shop,in my opinion the best around. The food is always fresh and cooked well. The staff are very friendly. Portion sizes are good if anything the chip portions are alittle too big! We look forward to our Friday night treat and would definitely recommend.

The food isnt bad but you pay far too much for it. A potion of chips isnt even enough to fill my little girl! There are better places nearby.

If you fancy good quality fish & chips or other similar type meals you can't go wrong with this restuarant. All their food is freshly cooked & their batter is beautifully crisp & golden. They provide very good portions, they also sell canned drinks etc. As well as the takeaway service, you can,if you wish sit & have your meal in their restaurant which you can accessed through the shop. All their produce is very reasonably priced too.

bought my nan oap fish and chips, nothing more than a fish finger and handfull of chips.i find this overpriced and no value for money at all.i can sit in the Dick Turpin and eat better cod and chips for less

We have been visiting this fish and chicken branch since it opened last summer and found it to be a bit hit and miss.There is normally a long queue so the waiting time can be about 15 minutes. It appears to be well organised and there is a good atmosphere whilst you are waiting. The staff: cheerful, efficient and all have name badges.The prices: we would say prices are average, and they do tend to have offers on most of the time.The chip sizes: there is not a small portion, just regular and large. However, the regular is very very small and the large portion is of a regular size.The quality: the chips are normally tasty and you don’t get all those little bits as with some other chip shops. The fish is OK, but there is far too much batter and not enough fish. The sausage in batter is OK as are the meat pies.The menu: lots to choose from aside from the normal items you would expect. You can also have side orders of mushy peas or curry sauce. Having had both, we can confirm they are both very good. Drinks are also available and our daughter raves about the “slushes”. There are 2 flavours that you can mix together or have separately.They can also cater for parties and have flyers available with rates and menus.

We like this place for our Saturday lunch and visit frequently. In the autumn/winter we use it regularly as it is so convenient after a visit to the local ASDA store for food shopping. My wife is well known here and we get a great welcome and always super portions of piping hot food. Highly recommended.

With the nearest fish and chips being more than a mile away for many on the Wick, they have a captive market. Their prices tend to be more expensive than others in Wickford, and if anything, portion sizes are smaller. Their prices can be confusing, for example, a portion of onion rings appeared on the till as £1.45, but are advertised at £0.99 (for 6) ~ on getting home it appeared as though we had more than 6, but were not asked if we wanted a large portion.The outstanding benefit is convenience (which is why I have given it an "average" rating), but on price, quality and service, there are better places in Wickford.
