Big Q in Basildon

Tell your young waitress about it. She is 16 and needs to stop scratching her skin and spots. Got lambasted by other customers due to my comment, however, its food environment, not a child's environment where she decides to cry!! Keep your hands off your face when serving my food.

have been coming here for years but this week the Large chips were served in a polystyrene tray and no where near the amount of chips we usually get so may now be going else where...i will give it one more go to see if it was a one off

£2.40 for a battered sausage that's been sitting there for hours and was stale and chewy.... Nah thanks 🤢🤮

Ate out of here for years ! Sent hubby sausage in batter :batter soggy sausage dried out and hard. Chips more eye than a spider and green chips. Hope this was an off day!

I like the big q the staff are friendly very good selection to choose from the atmosphere is nice too All in all a nice place to visit

Without a doubt the best fish and chips in Basildon or Ribs with or without sauce the meat literally falls off the bone, As for the cod it is firm white and tasty with a beautiful golden batter and the chips extremely moreish

Staff are rude, order was wrong, chips were small in portion size and not great at all. They are more interested in delivery drivers than customers in the shop (probably because of the higher prices they can charge via delivery apps)

Delicious meals. Good portion sizes. Pork and chicken were so tasty. Would recommend if someone wants a lot of meat items in the dinner. Bit oily though. Worth for the spend. Appreciate on time delivery.

25 minutes waiting for a bag of chips. Too busy with online orders ,the attitude seems to be customer paid money in the till F them,they can wait.

Wicked fish and chips very service good food

Came here today and was served by a lady with short black hair, I asked for chicken burger meal with beans and no mayo in my burger as I'm allergy to mayonnaise. Just got in, took a bite and it's full of mayo. Absolutely appalling

Rude staff, ALWAYS packed, no idea why as the food is overpriced and isn't nice. Almost £5 for a single chicken burger on its own. They claim it's the "best chicken burger is Basildon" but it's horrible, cold, and soggy. Can get a chicken burger from the hot chicken section of Asda for cheaper and it tastes better. Today they messed up my order, didn't add cheese to my burger despite asking. I asked for a drink and they gave me beans Instead... Lady with the black hair is so rude

The go-to fish n’ chips shop in the area. Great quality, good service and reasonably priced.

Food is great, but dont order off just eat to collect. They don't make your food until you arrive. So might as well just go there and order it.

The short woman with black hair serving behind the counter has a really disgusting/rude attitude. She has always got a face of thunder when she is serving customers never smiles, don't know how she ain't been sacked yet. Very awful attitude, clearly don't enjoy her job but if that's the case then simply leave instead of making customers feel uncomfortable with your rude behaviour.

Best Chip Shop in Basildon. Highly recommend. Lovely chips and food all round. Never been disappointed If I moved out of area, I'd probably drive here for fish supper. 10/10

Ordered a Cone of chips with other added dishes…this is not a cone of chips for £1.90 this is a half eaten portion of a cone of chips 🤷🏻‍♀️

Not great for people with dietary requirements or allergens.

Instead of our usual delivery, we collected today and as usual we were not disappointed. Nice crispy batter on the fish, chips were perfect as was the burger. As yet these guys can do no wrong. Credit to you! Thanks for a great meal once again.

The smallest (large chips ever)... curry sauce didnt turn up and this was the most expensive chippy weve ever had . High price for poor quality!

The chips were very nice and freshly cooked. Thoroughly enjoyed my supper. Can recommend them. Also they do chicken and fries as well as chip shop food. I can highly recommend them.

Great fish and chips and even do KFC style chicken. There's usually a big queue, which can be a little frustrating, but is worth the waiting time.

Front service .. polite … however .. delivery drivers seem to have priority over us customers that stand there waiting and waiting and waiting …. 30 minutes to wait for food that really wasn’t very nice AT ALL chicken burger meal …. Dry/ hard bun .. cold/over cooked chicken .. cold enough that even the burger cheese didn’t melt Rib & chicken meal… not to sad .. had better for less Saveloy… dry and very bland … however my dog loved it .. but he’s a beg OVERALL… regardless of how local this food place is … we will NEVER return and would highly recommend that if you’ve never tried this food outlet …. DONT risk it .. you will be very disappointed 21/06/22

Have recently been disappointed by the quality of the cod. It has recently been very thin.

Quick service but I found a hair in my chips.

The food is mediocre. The service needs some work. No greeting, no smiling and no interaction. Your customers are your bread and butter. If you don't treat them with any respect they won't return. I use to use this place years ago and when you walked through the door, you were greeted with a smile and a "hello how what would you like today"? I was made to feel my visit had somehow inconvenienced the staff. I will not be returning and I would not recommend.

Ordered 2 Double ringer burgers. The chicken was extremely hard. We had to chuck the chicken away; awful. Chips were nice though. Very disappointing.

Worse fish and chips I've ever had in my life, the coleslaw was disgusting and tasted awful. I called to seek redress and they were unprofessional and ignorant. NB. Big Q and Finest Fish and Chips are the same restaurant, don't be tricked like I was. I should have given this restaurant and no star rating.

Visited big Q yesterday for the first and last time, very poor service, staff behind counter had a Big problem getting a simple order correct, also very small portions.

Ordered through just eat. Waited for a while, cod was cold. And the pictures were ment to be a LARGE chips. Phoned to discuss and was told that a large chips is what was sent without even seeing the pictures. Ruined our dinner as the were not enough chips to go round. Have used big q for years but after tonight our business will be going elsewhere. 2 star rating is only for the quality big q used to have otherwise after tonight it gets a 0.

Takes ages to be served. In the last 8+ years of going here on the odd occasion, always expect to wait. Half the fryers on the other half empty. No anticipation to best sellers, so always cook on order. Good thing yes, freshly cooked but only if you have half an hour. Prices very high. Especially for chips..... & chicken double what you pay elsewhere.

Luvverly fish ,nice chips good selection of other pies ,savs ,bangers fried chicken .The medium cod is cheaper than the Harry Ramsden Large and its bigger too .All in all a great local chippie

Quite tasty but they charge too much for what they give. If you do not chose the advertised offers and go separate they charge double.

had no order no ord to deliver my order from Big Q All I got for my money was 1)A photo of my food out side someone else's door 2)I tried to phone the driver 3 times and got cut off. I had to put a message on his answerphone. No reply way awayreply) I tried to phone Uber there was not one 4) I used help and was told that I would receive a refund in 3 to 10 working days 5)I phoned them and pressed option 1 & was told that I had no order and told by computer to go away 6)I managed my pressing opton 3 to talk to a person. I was asked for a receipt number but because I had received no food or receipt he told me to go away Big Q does great food and

Food and service very good. I drive over 3 miles every week just to use Big Q. I live in a retirement complex. I collect orders from other residence & phone it over every friday. Its all ready for collection when i get there. All freshly cooked. Best in the area.

One of the best fish and chip shops around by far! They have some great deals on for the eat out scheme too. We never have a bad meal from here. 5 star review every time! And they are now accepting card payments which is even better.

Order a portion of chips. The chips hasn't any salt and very oily . The staff didn't wear facial mask when serving me

I have used this chippy years. Over the last few months the quality has Been declining Today the fish and chips I got were uneatable. I was offered free food on my next visit but I feel the staff must have known how dry and stale the fish was and therefore should not have served it, so I will not be going back again.

First visit as other chip shop has been demolished. Warm chips, fish pretty tasteless. Cash only , no fish ready so have to wait for the frozen fish to be taken out of the bag!! No wonder it’s empty, never again.

Love the fish and chips here. Its always busy as it is one of the better chippies in the local area. There isn't any seating as its just a takeaway and not a restaurant. Parking is just outside.

Big Q has an impressive menu, a few more options than the normal fish and chip shop: the service is good and the staff are quite friendly. Prices are average to good and free parking is near the shop - in all, very good. Only one thing I can suggest is, like many other chip shops in this area, that they cook their chips a little longer to make them a little more crispy on the outside - that's it!

I have been going to the big Q for years ,I have tried other fish and chip shops but none come a close second to the Big Q.you may have to Que up for a while but its well worth the wait as many locals will tell you.Friendly service at a fair price.I must say I have a bias opinion of the Big Q because all my family and myself actually love the Big Q.

Greatest Fish and chips for miles also chicken and chips all cooked fresh. The shopis clean as is behind the counter where the cooking goes on.

Best chips I've tasted locally, Really generous portions and always hot and perfectly fried. I can't comment on the fish as I'm gluten intolerant so hoping a gluten free batter become available one day fingers crossed :)
