Really nice man serving. The chips! Well they were amazing, can really tell they aren’t from a frozen bag! Very impressed. I want to try the home made tartar sauce next time.

Lived across the road from Fishers last year and visited a fair few times. The staff were always polite and food was enjoyable. I think for southern prices it does well compared to other chippies in the city centre. Its also very close to the downs making it perfect to get in summer to sit and eat on the grass in the sun.

Great fish and chips, get a lot for your money, big portions and lovely staff! Have been a few times and it never disappoints :) I reccomend getting the large chips it easily feeds two and is a really good price (around £3) compared to some of the other food options on Whiteladies road which are often quite dear. Really enjoyed having fish and chips on the downs in summer! Can't wait to go again!

We ordered two portions of fish and chips with curry sauce. The service was perfectly fine, the order was completed quickly. The problems, however, started at home - these were the poorest fish and chips we have had. The fish was very evidently either not fresh or had not been properly stored. An overwhelming fishy, off taste and smell; with a slight slime/mush texture that you'd expect with not fresh ingredients. You know when a chippy gets the chips just right? Crispy yet soft and slightly sweet on the inside? The chips at Fishers are the opposite of that. All round, a poor experience. Go anywhere else but here.

Possibly the worst f&c I've had for a long time. Not a single formed chip - just a mush of old oily potato. The fish was large, but dry and not very fresh. It was very hot though, even after taking home to eat. The atmosphere at 7pm on a Friday was like pub chucking out time (not fishers fault) and the service (fishers fault) was just grim. I won't go again. Over £20 for 2.

A massive portion of large chips and large haddock for £13.50 easily fed my son (7) and I. Good chips and fish with lots of crispy batter bits too. Also massive props to the lady working by herself on a Saturday evening (short staffed maybe?). She did an awesome job frying and serving, and I waited less than 10 minutes for my order

Hello everyone, well my family went there for dinner, never been there before, concerned not happy.x

Absolutely abysmal food . So bad I couldn’t face eating it and prepared myself a plate of cheese and biscuits instead ( we had a takeaway fish and chips ) Mountains of soggy , greasy chips that tasted as if the oil had been used over and over again . A huge piece of over-cooked , dried and discoloured fish . Less is more , but I would not advise any more of this food . Do not waste your money , it is simply awful .

Cold Friday night, and stopped off for a regular Fish and chips... Well, it's massive and freshly cooked, absolutely loved it! Can't wait to return!

Total rip off! Nearly £11 for the smallest Seafood Basket and chips. 2 tiny soggy undercooked fish bites , 2 tiny battered prawns and 2 Calamari rings ...3 unidentifiable breaded awful tasting something? Soggy chips . Will never go back ! Avoid!!

Chips were OK but the fish was mainly batter and the jumbo sausages were replaced with two small sausages and they didn't bother telling us. Why not just say? Doubt we will go back.

So horrifically bad that I feel like I need to apologise to the poor fish on my plate that he had to end up this way. Poor old Mr cod was very long dead and smelly before he hit the stale oil he was fried in. To add to Mr Cod’s indignity, he was wrapped in a stodgy uncooked batter. I’m not even going to comment on the atrocities performed on spud in the name of chips. If I had microwaved a potato for ten hours so it was a dried out husk and the sat it in oil for a while I’m still not sure I could replicate what was served. Long wait (half an hour for takeaway), prices that don’t match the quality of the food. Btw, did I mention that the food was stinky and atrociously bad? So sorry Mr cod, you deserved better!

Exceedingly good fish! Salt and vinegar was not overwhelming and added the right flavor. Cheese chips were generous as a portion and in their cheesiness. Tartar sauce was delicious. I got a large of each - I was exceedingly hungry, weigh nearly 100 kgs, and can eat alot for my size anyway, and I couldnt finish! Not only was it excelent food, but a very good price. Next time I'm in Bristol I'm 100% returning.

Worst fish and chips I’ve ever had . Had to wait about 15 minutes, so thought all would be fresh . Lots of hard chips and some more like crisps . Batter hard and fish didn’t taste good. Won’t ever go back.used to be good , don’t know what’s happened

Poor service, guy was rude which I wouldn’t care about if the food was any good. Chips tasted of flavourless pieces of carpet, cheese wasn’t melted and condiments were refused.

Went In and ordered, had to wait a long time once ordered, therefore when finally got food, found fish was frozen, and undercooked, batter soggy and chips not fresh at all… Overall very disappointed, not worth the wait or the money, first time, and definitely the last time!

Always consistently good. Excellent value within the lunch deal, I will be back.

Food not cooked properly and no sauce !

Chips were hot but soggy and not nice. Very disappointing. £5 was not worth it as they said there was no ketchup or condiments when I saw a few bottles of ketchup. Not happy with my food.

Very basic flavourless food, Pickle was really soft and soggy, the staff don't smile and are grumpy. And not to mention 20p for a sachet of ketchup is just a joke. I'm not talking heinz large pot of ketchup im talking like a burger king sachet size that gives you 3 dips and its gone... I have 4 sachets 80p.... Honestly never felt so robbed in my life.

Bought large cod small chips. Gave me well over a kilo of chips! Could see why when I got home the fish was smelly. Ended up in the bin. Not good. Do not recommend this place!

Picked up some take-away on my way home from work today and have to say, without a doubt, this is the worst chip shop I have ever been in in my life. The chips were chewy and the fish was absolutely vile! Sausages tasted stale and disgusting too. Would not recommend to anyone who has taste buds and will never be returning.

Expensive. Fish/batter wasn’t good. Chips were grey / tasted weird. Servers stingy with sauce. Felt unwell after.

I've often driven past and wondered what the fish and chips is like... tonight I found out. The fish is dry, tastes old and not fresh and flaky at all. The batter in stodgy - chewy not crispy. The chips are floury and pale - not crispy. All in all, a really disappointing experience. We just came back from Scotland and had some of the best fish and chips up there we've ever eaten - light, crunchy batter, moist, flaky fish. Please, please, please - you have to improve on this. It's not good!

Visited this shop at closing time where the only option I had was for a large chips that were in the hotbox. I was charged full price despite them obviously being sat there for a while. Member of staff reassured me that they didn’t have vinegar on (as they were already wrapped up ) but when I got home they were really soggy and covered in vinegar. This shop does not take allergens seriously.

Just ordered a few lunchtime specials. Amazing place! Wish I’d stumbled across it sooner! The lunchtime fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce was legendary, and son seems to love the battered sausage and curry sauce with his chips. I can’t believe this place has been here 20 years and only now I’ve noticed it! Will buy again.

They state that they are open until 11pm. Arrived at 9:30 on a Friday night to be told they were closing. Last time as there are plenty of fish and chip shops in the vicinity. Best go somewhere more reliable.

Signs for lunch time meal deal state free drink with meals except a fruit drink yet when you purchase your meal they will only give you water or sprite.. burger meals bread was so hard you could have smashed concrete with it. Avoid sausages in lunch time menus, they are awful. 80p charge for bread roll is crazy.. and gravy was disgusting. Will not ever be going back to this shop ever again.

Seems to have gone downhill, haven't had a good experience the last few times i've been. Tiny portions, spenny prices, stale chips etc. Shame as it can be really good at times, hope they get back to it again soon! *EDIT* Unfortunately i've had to drop another star based on my most recent experience. Ordered something clearly on the menu (pea fritters) To which the staff moaned like hell. They then took somewhere in the region of half an hour to make them and produced something more reminiscent of a pea brick, very dry and not appetising at all, needless to say these went in the bin. If you really don't want to make them take them off the menu?

Food is good but hygiene is unacceptable. The woman behind the counter was eating the same chips she serves to customers with her bare hands. How can they serve chips that a staff member has touched with her hands, especially during COVID when good hygiene is important. Shocking

Definitely the worst fish & chips I’ve ever had in my life. The cod was definitely frozen not fresh, it wasn’t flaky like it should be when you cut into it. Batter was uncooked and made me feel quite sick. Chips were soggy and had no salt and vinegar on like we asked for and the mushy peas were absolutely tasteless. Do not waste your money on this place. If I could give it a 0 star rating I would!

The food is delicious, cooked with love and responsibility, I had the opportunity to see what is behind the kitchen, I had a very nice surprise, cleanliness, tidiness and discipline which is very hard to find in fast-foods. Patrons are very special and kind with clients. Definitely recommend... Enjoy your fresh food! 😊 ❤️

Tis the night before Lockdown............... Busy but managed to get a table. For my starter I went for the smoked haddock and bacon chowder. I have to say it was amazing, I would live on that for the rest of my life, no really. For my main I opted for the seabass, shame about the chips but you don't go to a fish restaurant for chips do you. Next time I will go for the roast new potatoes.

Hi All..this is the second time have taken some chips from this Fishers place...and yet again quite bad...GGreeesy or what..2 portions of chips this time and Cod and chips first time round...both times very poor...... Blackened potatobits....that's it..3 quarters in the bin....review on scale 1to10 is....2.1..that's it...

Sorry i would love to write a positive review, especially considering the difficult times for small businesses - and if my large cod and chips looked anything like the photos i might had been able too. Positives: Fair cod and chips portion size - expected for the price. Cod was fresh Negatives: The batter was nowhere near crispy - pale, soggy and thick - bit like eating pancake. Chips - tasted old, cardboardy and dry. Curry sauce - tiny tiny portion doesn't even cover a quarter of a portion of large chips - also tasted watery. Could barely taste any salt and vinegar?! Wrapping in paper that clings to the fish and chips - a box is SO much better (i know, contentious point but who really wants to have to try and make sure they peel off bits of paper from their meal?) Hopefully some quality control can come about to get tasty crispy fish and chips being served. Excellent spot for footfall and convenience.

Disappointing. Fish batter was soggy and not crispy. Fish was over cooked. Chips were average. Battered sausage was Luke warm and curry tasted funny. Won’t be going back.

Good fish and chips. Have been a few times and to my mind the chips are fairly standard not the "mostly the scraggy ends" mentioned by one review and I rather like that but these were normal. Fish seemed fresh, tasty. Doing a lot for socially distancing so wait outside on pavement. Not their fault, they are doing a good job, but until everything goes back to normal can't go inside to wait.

Chips were mostly the scraggy ends so a third of them inedible, and the rest quite blackened, possibly old oil. Been here a few times and always the same. The only upside is that this place is open on a Sunday night.

I have discovered Fishers during the pandemic. The guy there cooks amazing fish and chips which are a real treat and cheered me up a lot during the pandemic. He has really good measures against corona, with a screen covering up the entire cooking and till area, and you get handed the grub through a flap. Respect.

Superb fish and chips. Have been a few times and it has really cheered me up each time during the pandemic. The guy there is lovely and there is great shielding from infection at this chippie.

The food and drink here are very good. We were a party of 3. We started with thai fishcakes (x1) and tiger prawns (x2). All very good- but some starters were not available- a bit surprising for an early evening dinner? We then went on to have salmon kedgeree, smoked haddock and sea bass- again all very good. We finished with fritters, vasaparetto and the cheeseboard. All excellent. Service was a liitle slow but the staff were all very pleasant. Some customers did not like being kept waiting but we were in no hurry

Friendly people but quality of food was not great. Fish over cooked and the batter was a bit too dense for my taste. Chips were really soggy. Plus point...offered paper bag rather than plastic bag. I had the medium cod and chips.

Great friendly service, but when are they going to learn how to cook chips ? We ordered a large fish and chips, which honestly was enough for 3 people, but as before AWFUL soggy chips and batter. By the time we got them home (about 5 mins) they had turned into a ball of mush. Really sad and unnecessary !

GOT OUR ORDER TOTALLY WRONG. Got all the way home, gave us the wrong food and the 'cheese'burger was soaked in grease and had no cheese on it! Come on when you've got like 5 products you sell how can you get them so wrong. Just go to a different one on Whiteladies, at least they give you what you order.

We have visited several times and always found a good choice of excellent fish dishes, but other dishes too. We went again recently with two small grandchildren and were made very welcome. Prices are quite reasonable for good sized portions

Came here to pick up a fish and chips lunch. The quality was satisfactory and overall it was a decent portion of chips, but I once again found myself a bit irked at my large portion of chips being seemingly no different to my other half's medium chips; don't bother ordering large here because it makes no difference. We also wanted a battered Mars bar as not many chip shops in Bristol do them but £3 for this is absolutely ludicrous; the industry standard charge for this is £1 or less! Many chip shops will gladly batter you a Mars bar for free if you bring it in yourself, so I didn't want to give in and fork out the cost of a pint for them to fry a chocolate bar. Good fish and chips, though not that cheap, and questionable value.
