Had haddock on its own, 30/08/24 with a group of 17 people. We gave our order 3 days in advance. It was so small and flat, I thought it was a small plaice. I went and told them that I only ordered haddock and it was considerably smaller than others fish whom had chips to fill themselves with. The lady on behind the counter just did not seem remotely care about what I said and not offered anything. Someone else also said the their fish was also a very small and had chips with it. They said batter was good as it was majority of the order. We had been there before with a big group before and it is my last time. The fish I was given not worth more then £2 , never mind being charge £8 and you go home hungry. Very disappointed…

The fish sandwich is on another level it was fantastic quality and much more than you would get from a normal fish shop served with salad and other things and tartar sauce

Had fish and chips here . Love the chips, crispy on the outside and soft inside, just the way I love them. The fish was delicious too. Highly recommend going here for lunch , a snack or dinner.

Once again, really enjoyed our fish and chips. Freshly cooked, as always. Whether we stay on Mull or get the ferry across, we would normally visit the van at least twice in a week. Pleased to see this small business doing so well!

Fabulous fish and chips (double cooked) and excellent scallops served by really friendly staff. All enjoyed sitting by the harbour watching the day end.

After a long day at sea visiting Staffa and Lunga and with only 1.5 hours before our bus, we were Hungary and in a bit of a hurry.. This little place by the sea was perfect for a really good and quick meal. The ladies were phenomenal and pleasant to deal with. My meal was served quickly. The fish and chip were scrumptious. Loved the breaded batter. My wife loved the haggis. Would definitely go back again

We arrived in Tobermory hungry after a full day exploring so were extremely happy to see the fish van open.Simply just excellent fish and chips. Nothing quirky about it, just fresh fish in a great batter with more than enough chips.Lots of other choices on the menu whether it be scampi or goujons.Only feedback is that we were in Tobermory later in the week and were a bit surprised to find the van closed on a Friday lunchtime in peak season. Perhaps update your opening hours? We had hoped to have these again before leaving.

Freshest fish Iv ever eaten, was still flapping around my try, I wasn’t only fresh it was massive, it was that big i ended up sharing it with my wife our two children and there was still some left for the dog! Need an ap and a crane to lift it!The customer service was brill too, had a great chat about racing cars with the owner after he noticed my Ford cap I was wearing. He was also wearing a kilt as he said it added to the Scottish experience for the tourists. Nice touchNo complaints apart from you had to pay extra for sauce.

Overcooked fish, scampi and chicken. Fish was inedible, chicken was dried out and scampi coating was hard. Asked for no chips with scampi were given chips. Three times stated no salt and vinegar on food and almost had to snatch food before they were put on. Incompetent serving lady who didn’t listen to customers orders therefore made mistakes. Poor/small portion size and very overpriced for what you get. Rip off.

This would be 5 stars only we got there too late for fish Hd chips but really enjoyed scallops and chips and scampi and chips - all cooked to perfection - such tasty chips and a fab curry sauce! I’d imagine the fish would’ve been amazing. Super people running it too- really friendly!!

I had the scampi and chips and the food was tasty . Be prepared to wait in the queue if there is one though as i was around 45 minutes

£9 for a one piece greasy bang average piece of fish and tasteless chips not my idea of a good experience this place must exist as it's the only take away outlet open in Tobermory and it's busy for I assume this reason only it's certainly not the food very disappointing.

We had fish and chips from the van on their opening nit in the middle of June 2021. I believe the couple had just taken it over from previous owners. We both had a fish supper and a Diet Coke each, the bill was £19 which we thought value for money.....at that time it was "cash only" .....it may still be so be prepared. Across the way is the CoOp with an ATM and where you could get a beer if you want. Two slight downsides....1: there is nowhere other than the clock tower steps to sit and 2: early evening the clock tower steps are in the shade. However, we really enjoyed our fish suppers and would recommend. They also offer mushy peas, gravy and curry sauce ...and if you are brave, or Scottish, Haggis and chips!!!

Disappointing fish & chips. £9.I would have expected fresh well cooked fish but I was wrong. Not fresh, not well cooked. At £9 it ain’t cheap. I feel a bit ripped off. Have had fish suppers in Glasgow & east neuk of fife - east neuk wins every time but some Glasgow chippies are pretty good. However, on Mull I wanted better, not to beWould I have another - no.

A wee wait in the sunshine for some lovely fish suppers was just the ticket after a day of sightseeing. So good we visited twice!

Had fish and chips off the van twice whilst in Tobermory, both times very tasty, and no fat on the chips, delicious!

£9 for a single fish supper. Obviously prime location means they can charge that, but fish very average and as another reviewer commented, chips had a ‘frozen’ feel to them. Expecting way better from a seaside chippy.

Had lunch from this van yesterday in the Tobermory sunshine. The van is under new ownership and has just reopened this week. Fish was super-fresh (I work in the industry and know a bit about fish) and cooked to perfection. Crisp, crunchy chips and tartare sauce in a nice wee pot instead of a sachet that takes ten minutes to wrestle open and most of it ends up on your clothes. Really good and thoroughly recommend.

Not that great I’m afraid. Obviously it doesn’t really matter as there was a lengthy queue! Has a Les Routiers sticker on the van but presumably that’s a joke. Frozen oven style chips & not sure that the fish was fresh either. It’s also at a premium price compared to proper fish shop offerings but I guess you can get away with all of this if you’re serving it out of a van on Tobermory Pier on a lovely sunny evening.

Chip van on the harbour side overlooking the lovely row of rainbow coloured buildings. Small portion of chips each. Served quickly, but nothing special.

Disappointingly mediocre. The chips are not home cut ‘chippy’ chips but instead oven chips deep fried. A lot of the other options were simply frozen food deep fried and the haddock was very average. There was also not a lot of other fresh seafood on offer which seems like a missed opportunity in this part of the world. The position of the van is lovely and the people who work there are pleasant but I can’t think of anything else positive to say - confused by the good reviews.

If you want a business to work you need to at the very least give information on your opening hours, so i don't know when it was going to open so the end of the plan.

We visited once as we only discovered it late on our trip. Excellent tasty food for a reasonable price and Covid safe

We'd heard about this van but I think it may have changed hands? We were told they cooked fresh fish but on our visit they were cooking frozen fish, pre battered.

Sorry, but I hate giving poor reviews, maybe it'll be taken as criticism and help improve. The good bit was tasty haddock with a crispy light batter. Smallish for a seafood area, but I am used to Grimsby portions. Chips...soggy. Calamari looked like it had come pre-prepared from a freezer bag. I was anticipating fresh and battered. A little pricey, as well, for the portion size, I'm afraid.

This is one of the places recommended when visiting Mull however standards have clearly nose-dived. Partner and I both ordered fish + chips but the chips were clearly frozen and no better than bog standard burger van chips straight from the bag. Suspect fish was also frozen. Bland and hugely disappointing.

We had heard good things about this fish and chips van. Both the cod and haddock were frozen and definitely not fresh. They were also not particularly hot which was a bit worrying. Probably one of the worse fish and chip experiences we have ever had. They were also very overpriced. My advice, save your money and avoid.

I was shocked to read some of these reviews, we had the freshest haddock and chips and yes we waited probably 10 minutes or so for it to be freshly cooked but I'd expect that. The portions were generous and the haddock really was superb. The seagulls are very polite in Tobermory, they wait for you to finish and then hoover up the crumbs!

Possibly the worst fish n chips I've ever had! How the hell this place has won awards beats me. They use frozen chips out of a bag, not freshly cut ones like any decent chippy would use. The 'large' Haddock I had was small and tasteless. The portions are overpriced and service with a smile is non existant.Unless you're starving to death best avoid and save your money.

Haddock & Chips. I have a feeling the fish had been previously frozen as it tasted extremely fishy, pardon the pun. Chips were frozen chips & not of the best quality either. When buying Fish & Chips at the coast you expect real chips cut from fresh potatoes. The whole meal was fairly tasteless & overpriced especially for the low 'quality' & size of haddock fillet. I cannot believe the same quality was served to Prince Charles or to whoever awarded them with the Les Routiers. Service with a smile IT WAS NOT. I'd avoid at all costs. Wish I'd read the reviews before visiting this establishment.

Visited the Fisherman's Pier fish & chip van in Tobermory on Wednesday August 5th 2020,As I queued at the van there must have been five customers in front of me. I thought, I'm not in for a long wait. How wrong I was. It took 45 minutes for those customers who were in front of me to be served.My turn at the van & I ordered haddock & chips & a sausage & chips. I was asked if I wanted batter on both the haddock & the sausage to which I said yes. I paid & waited. I should have been worried when no less than two minutes later I'm called over to collect my order. An absolute abomination of food. Frozen chips were clearly used as I witnessed the lady in the van tearing open those bulk buy big cheap catering bags of chips & putting them in the fryer.The batter on the haddock was soft & mushy & not dry & crisp. The batter on my sausage had clearly been thrown in oil with the heat turned to maximum. Burnt & tasted very odd. The sausage was tasteless & of poor quality. The overwhelming taste that did leave us was of all the food having been fried in oil that hadn't been changed for ages. So bad in fact that I myself thought it could have been old engine oil.It's a much hyped van by the hotel owners on Tobermory, but I'm afraid they are all in it together, to promote each others businesses. How this fish & chip van got a Les Routiers award I don't know. I can only assume they passed someone else's food off as their own.Absolute rubbish, don't believe the hype & spend your money elsewhere as my food was an abomination. An absolute rip off!If this is the lasting memory of the food on Tobermory given to the tourists, then I'm afraid the owners of The Fisherman's Pier are an absolute disgrace to Scotland. We can do better than that & it's businesses like this one that let the Scottish tourism industry down at a time when it needs it the most.0/5 from me.

AWFUL FOOD, POOR QUALITY, BADLY COOKED AND OVERPRICED We stopped here because we fancied chip suppers for lunch. Having had amazing battered chicken breast elsewhere my husband opted for a chicken fillet burger and paid an extra £3 to have it DOUBLED (£6.50). I had fillet and chips and my daughter opted for pizza. I know we probably should have had fish and chips but I didn't expect to be presented with frozen wafer thin minced chicken shaped fillets like big versions of a cheap chicken nugget, grey on the inside. Shockingly poor value and no flavour or quality. My daughter's pizza was like the Aldi version of a Chicago deep pan pizza which was chucked in the microwave for a few minutes and charged £4 without even adding chips.Just avoid this place!

Frozen chips straight from a bag. I asked for calamari- she asked if it was ok if it was frozen!!! So instead I had fish and chips. The fish was nice but the chips just ruined it for me. My partner had scampi- also frozen. Avoid this place.

I had read all the great reviews and was looking forward to some great chips(we were going to have fish and chips for dinner the next day)The lady in the hut was chatting away to the customer in front of me and she got her fish and chips and it was huge.I asked for a bag of chips and got looked at us I had sworn at her anyway 30 secs later I’m handed a box of chips well 24 chips to be exact £2.50 for 24 chips that were straight out the freezer not even fresh cut chips.I didn’t say anything at the time as I had paid when I ordered them anyway to sum this review up nearly 11p per chip

Piping hot f&chips cooked to order in a compost-friendly tray for lunch. Serve yourself with s&v and sauces. Limited choice as it was winter. Staff friendly and made conversation while we waited. Prices are at the high end - £16 for two haddock and chip meals - fish quality very good, chips out of the freezer. Not disappointed however, to have tried the van.

We didn’t know about the van but asked a local where was the best seafood for lunch. They told us to go to the pier. We didn’t expect a van but lots of people in line. My husband ordered the mussels and I had seafood platter. Our servings were enormous and food was outstanding. It’s a must if you like seafood . It’s a destination in itself.

Freshly cooked and lovely food, all in a beautiful setting on a quiet evening overlooking the sea. I tried haggis and chips it was great and my partner had fish and chips. It was expensive but I think all the chip shop establishments I saw in Scotland were compared to down in England.

After many years away I was really happy to be back on Mull, and an essential part of that trip down memory lane was to have some chips from the van on Tobermory Pier. But what a dreadful disappointment! The chips were AWFUL!! No other word for it - dry, tasteless, made McCains oven chips look exotic in comparison. No excuse and I’m kicking myself for not complaining! There were so many other places indoors I could have gone for a snack - with or without the dogs...do yourselves a favour, learn from my mistake and avoid the over-hyped and under-performing Fishermen’s Pier van at all costs.

Agree with Tony G review below. Very disappointed with our lunch. First time visiting Tobermory and I said to my partner that these fish & chip vans are normally spectacular - given this one was right in the centre of the village and right at the harbour, I was hoping for beautiful homemade chips. We were served frozen chips that could have been from Tesco/Lidl - do not come here if you are expecting “chip shop chips”.

Having lived near the Anstruther Fish Bar for years, and having tried fish and chip shops throughout Scotland, this was tasty, or at least the fish was, but poor value.Haddock was fresh and tasty, but a tiny portion. (Described as large for £5.50)Chips, really disappointing to see a small portion of frozen chips for £2.50.Seriously, just because you have a captive market doesn't, and shouldn't, mean you serve cheap frozen chips.

The haddock and chips from this seafront van was excellent and great value. Fresh fish cooked to order, real chips, great batter, and (critically for fish and chips) fresh oil. If a quality restaurant offered fish and chips they would be hard pushed to do it better - we both come from areas steeped in f&c; culture, and were really impressed.

Yet another visit to the chip van. Not disappointed in the high quality of fresh fish, with good prices too. The batter was crisp and not greasy at all. Service quick when you consider evry fish is cooked to order. Frozen chips are just about the only thing that could be improved upon. We all recommended.

Excellent fish and chips,freshly cooked to order piping hot and very tasty. In cardboard trays and with wooden forks - environmentally friendly too.

If you’re taking a stroll round the harbour at Tobermory this is an excellent little food stop. Selling a wide variety of fish based dishes at reasonable prices the food is tasty and well cooked. Had deep fried scallops one evening, which were superb and large haddock and chips on a second visit. The latter at £8 is good value for money.

Parked on the harbour front in beautiful sunshine and just wanted a tasty snack. The fish was very fresh and cooked to order. Would definitely return and try something abit different next time from the extensive menu.

We come from an area that has a lot of highly rated fish & chip shops, so perhaps we had overly high expectations, but we found the "large" fish supper very expensive for what it was and the fish tasted "fishy", which indicates a lack of freshness. The chips also tasted and had the texture of frozen chips rather than fresh cut potatoes, which I would have expected for the high price tag. Also very greasy, even by a chip shop's standards. The staff seemed nice though!

With not to many food outlets available in the evenings, this place is always busy. Fish and chips ok but give the burgers a miss.

We visited Tobermory on the wettest possible day, it couldn’t have rained any harder.

We tried this place on our first evening in Tobermory. I hope that the food in restaurants on the island is as good as this take away service. The fish was perfectly cooked, skinned with crisp batter and the chips were some of the best I have ever eaten. The menu for a fish and chip van is extensive. Seriously impressed! Nice to sit under the clock tower and eat al fresco (weather permitting). Excellent value for money.

Visited with family. We were looking for something quick as we were travelling round island. Brilliant fish and chip best we have had in a long while. All condiments available for free which was brill. Deffo will b back.

Quick snack stop for chips on the beach. Husband had added Calamari which he enjoyed too! Good value and would visit again.

We had scampi and chips which we took back to our cottage to eat. It was all really fresh and tasty. Another reviewer has accused them of using frozen chips but that certainly wasn’t the case on this occasion.

We were staying in Tobermory and had the best fish and chips from this van. They do an amazing trade.

Just a van on the pier - from the outside but what comes out of here is pure gold. Golden fried fresh fish and chips! The taste is great and no wonder there is often a queue to get at the freshly cooked fare.

Sorry when i went there and ordered my food - when I saw it I was not overall happy - BUT the food was great, tasty and the lady serving was very sweet - an asset to Tobermory great fish and chips - lovely cheese burger - Sorry I should have given you more credit - fantastic food - please go there and enjoy

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our fish, chips and peas eaten in the early evening sitting on a bench in the sun.

They had one of the best fish and chip selections I have seen for some time. The battered smoked haddock was delicious, as was the mackerel. Tasty chips too. Then sit by the clock and enjoy. So good we went back twice.

Thought I’d try here as was a nice night and they are in a situated in a lovely spot. The chips were horrible and the calamari was something else, it was like a fishy paste that had be fried in rings. It must have been the cheapest of the cheap, not what I was expecting. Threw most of it away. I would say to avoid this place.

Fish is just so good. I particularly like the calamari and scallops you can get here I always try and visit here when I get to Tobermory

We could tell by the line that this was a popular place. Fish was fresh and perfectly cooked. There were several people sitting around on the harbor eating from here.

We had scampi and chips with mushy peas - all very fresh, tasty and not at all greasy. We’d read in a review that the chips are frozen and it nearly put us off eating here but they most definitely aren’t. The mushy peas were delicious too.

Visited to have much hyped fish n chips, but yeah, the Fried fish was not fried properly and oil was drenching out, Try some other eatery for better fish n chips

We’ve been here twice in two days and it’s been great each time. The food is fresh and the staff are really friendly. I would recommend to try the haddock!

This chipper was always on our radar for a quick meal after visiting Iona and Staffa and did not disappoint. 4 large scallops in batter and chips were the best chip supper I’ve ever had. ( the rest of the party we’re happy too..)

Looking at the small van selling fish and chips on the pier we were not expecting much,but we were in for a treat. Lovely freshly cooked fish and chips by the sea, better than any of your Michelin starred restaurants !

Large haddock was quite small and I couldn’t eat the chips as they were straight out the freezer. As a regular fish n chip eater I have never been as disappointed....and no scraps!

They came highly recommended by our hosts, and we were not disappointed. The best cod and chips we had all holiday!

Maybe this varies judging by reviews but we were very disappointed. The fish was so so and very small, like a small cod portion cut in half. The chips were terrible, tasted like oven chips. Very poor.

really really tasty fish from this place....was'nt to happy with the chips...but the fish.....YES 12.30pm - 9pm at night....if your ever in tobormory...head on down there...you wont be dissapointed

Delicious fish and chips, doesn't get much fresher than this. It's cooked while you wait and then you can eat it with the wonderful views in front of you.

We had the cod and haddock with chips. Oh, and a white pudding! Just what we needed after a long, tough cycle round Mull. Freshly cooked to order and delicious!

Excellent fish van centrally located and the staff we met were friendly and efficient. Everything is cooked to order so you might have to hang around in the rain for a few minutes (like we did) but the food was worth the wait. Didn't try any fish however as it was a filler between pubs.

A wet and very soggy Tobermory day- so we grabbed fish and chips here and ate in the car with views across the harbour!! Delicious!!

Went here on Friday the 5th October to be told they had run out of cod. Went back the next night and got calamari and chips. They were both straight out of a freezer bag and not very satisfying at all. The price that I paid for this I expected a lot more.
