We love this place. Fish fresh, light, delicious batter, and really tasty chips. Husband likes the cheesy chips, or checking out the weekly offers. Son had the chicken curry this visit and said it wad good, and the girls had kids' meals with drink. Highly recommend. Hard to find a good chippie so very grateful to have one local. Thankyou

Scotland in a box is outstanding, the haggis is a game changer need to keep it on the menu.

Literally, "la crème de la crème" this place not only has great online ordering it has very pleasent in shop ordering. The food won number one in Wales and second in the whole of the UK a few years back. I think they haven't entered since else they would be first. A total friendly and community inclusive vibe when you enter. The parking outside is a game of tetris and can be tough on times but these chips are worth it! The staff are really lovely and the cooks know what they are doing. Highly recommended.

Lovely service, lovely food, easy 5 star review. Update: 2nd time using this establishment, don’t know what was wrong today but food was very poor, portions small, tasteless old chips, batter was soggy not good. It won’t let me respond to your reply… 2 stars given because you’re supposed to be the best fish shop in Wales, consistency is important👍👍👍

I bought fish and chips for my kid and he burst out laughing when he seen the size of it,way over priced 11 pound for a jacked up fish finger and chips.

You'd be hard pressed to find a better chippy in 50 to 100 miles. There is a reason they nearly won best in the UK. Just opened a second larger shop a few miles up the valley which is also a restaurant. The old shop does a gluten free day now and then, they usual publish this on their Facebook page. The new restaurant location will cater for gluten free all the time if you book in advance and they'll them what your food intolerance is.

Some chips were overcooked whilst some were undercooked and you could taste the raw potato. Could taste the additive chippies use to make potatos last longer. Chinese curry watery with no flavour but the fruity curry was OK. Sausages were nice but very salty. The sausage in batter was the worst I've ever had though as the batter was thin, falling off and tasted burnt. Buttered roll was nice buy you can't really mess that up can you. Not worth the belly ache but sorry shame they don't run there business constantly to there award winning ways... Emailed them a few months ago after they replied to contact them and have been ignored! Don't always believe there replies acting like they care about the customer.

Just spent 26 quid on two fish and chips, gravy, peas and onion rings. Fish was OK but the chips and rings went straight in the bin. I've had great food from here in the past but not today. If you're an award winner your food should be top notch every time. Won't be going back.

It was Saturday early evening and they had already run out of most fish. I ordered cod and chips and it wasn't until I got home that I realised I had been ripped off. A ludicrously small piece of cod had been covered in chips. By the time I discovered that I'd eaten all of the fish, I was left with a box almost full of potato, most of which I ended up throwing away.

One of the best chip shops in the area if not the best it can be a nightmare to park as theres not much parking outside and it takes a while to get food because it’s mostly cooked fresh, my advice order online in advance and have it waiting when you arrive.

Worked in the area many times. Nipped in today and wow brilliant taste with everything. Chip shops like this are gold dust in the UK 🇬🇧

no menu apart from a digital display on the wall that kept flicking off to tell you that this was a 2nd runner up fish bar in Wales. Took ages just to read then when we got our food chips were satisfactory must admit fish bites were scrumptious. I think the lady was very busy to give us time and felt rushed and as for atmosphere its a takeaway what atmosphere.

Like many others, my partner and I came to sample the fish and chips. I was both impressed and a little disappointed. My partners fish was huge, yet mine was substantially smaller. The chips were absolutely delicious. The fish was tasty, batter crispy, and curry sauce delicious. The fish could have been cooked a minute less and it would have been perfect. Would I return? Yes.

Absolutely delicious. I had the cod dinner and my partner the haddock dinner. It really topped off a great day with the dogs, firstly at Ogmore beach in South Wales and then our lush fish dinner at the Fish Kitchen. We will be going there again. Friendly staff and the chef/fryer thanked us for our custom which was a lovely touch. Simply the best.

Heard and read alot about this fish and chip shop . So we gave it a go , and I must admit, the food was better than I had heard about , I'll go as far to say these were the best fish and chips I have ever had , fish wasn't covered r in thick batter , chips were excellent and a good size portion. 😋. Will visit again soon .

Just moved to the area. Saw the queue out of the door so thought it would be a good place to try. Ordered fish and chips twice and a large mushy peas. NO mushy peas. Not possible to check bag on the way out and it's sealed up. For a first impression I'm not impressed!

Called there for my fish and chips this evening as it’s awarded 2nd best in UK and 1st in Wales to find I was disappointed as the chips were hot, the fish was lukewarm, the fish did not look the best either so won’t be going back

We have food from here quite regularly but unfortunately it has been inconsistent. The portion sizes have been most varied with a regular portion of chips being more than enough for 2 people to recently being hardly enough for us. I’ve had fish bites that were huge but another time was enough to feed a child. It is very hit and miss so I will avoid for a while until I forget the feeling of disappointment I felt when I opened the latest meal I had from there. I don’t mind paying a premium for decent food but I really begrudge paying for sub standard food. C’mon fish kitchen, you can do better!

Consistently Good Food,ordering is easy to do online, if your not able to do that,ordering at shop is easy and not too much of a wait. Far ,far better than a certain chip shop in Bedwas which was apparently in a similar'Best Chip Shop' competition. You won't go far wrong here🐟🍟

Ordered on line for pick up, amazing service- the lovely lady serving cooked our chips freshly for us but we only waited a few minutes. The chips were gorgeous alongside a lovely curry sauce and onion rings. Highly recommend

This is one of the best fish and chips shops in South wales and for me and my family. It has always been consistent in quality and taste and we have always been made welcome with great and attentive staff. Sadly tonight, the customer service was most certainly lacking with two young females not interested in good customer service. That was enough for me not to go back. Dear owner, please do not let your wonderful product be ruined by staff who are simply not invested in the health and wellbeing of your business. Good customer service DOES make a difference to customer experience.

Best cod and chips around. First visit and wondered what the fuss was about, I now understand. Great service fresh cooked fish, just great. The little touches in the shop I thought were really good, showing images of the boat that catches the fish and the farm that provide the spuds, wonderful

Have had alot better for less the price normal chips looked like large enough for 4 people and under cooked fish small not much taste don't do pasties and the pie was over heated in the microwave pastry tough to cut no juice left inside the pie

went here for the first time today, 6/9/2022.ordered two pie and chips and an irish curry.it came to £13 odd.two lovely pleasant ladies working here.we arrived around 3pm.we must have had the last of the chips as the one lady said there was enough for two left.when we opened them the chips looked greasy only to find they were very dry and hard on the ends,plus the pies had been zapped in the microwave for so long the pastry was hard and the insides were dried out.i asked for extra salt and vinegar,but i didn't mean piles of salt in one spot...the irish curry was lovely.

Another excellent GF meal from Fish Kitchen 1854 this evening. Fish portion was generous, batter was light, bubbly and fresh and the Cod flaked beautifully. Chips were delicious, properly cut, well seasoned and not at all greasy. As ever, easy to order online and first class and friendly service on collection. One very happy Coeliac, thank you 👍🏻.

Was treated to a delicious afternoon meal. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and efficient. There was a huge range of food to choose from all freshly cooked. Our meals were freshly cooked and the portion sizes were very generous. If you lucky enough to pop I highly recommend treating yourself to the fruity curry! Delish!

Best Haddock and chips I've tasted in years. Mackerel gougons fabulous. Used click and collect order ready as I walked through the door. Brilliant

Second time I've visited and the chips were awful first time but thought I'd try again but this time really bad chips that taste of dirty cooking oil and they had a hair in them as a bonus. Won't return, loads of much better chip ships in the area.

Fish and chips x2 and carton of curry purchased this evening. First visit today after hearing multiple good reviews. Shop is very clean, collection of food is very well organised and best of all there was no fat in the box or the paper the fish was served on, overall a fantastic experience.

Excellent food again last night. My husband and I had the regular fish and chips. Fish was great and the batter was just perfect. I had the homemade tartar sauce which is fabulous and my husband had the fruity curry sauce which was really lovely. My eldest son chose squid, as he tried it on holiday in Torquay (He has expensive taste for an eight year old 🤣) he thoroughly enjoyed it and my youngest had the children's chicken nuggets meal and he said that was really good. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Lovely chunky meaty white cod really tasty thin crispy batter fruity curry sauce was fab the lunchtime deals are really well priced staff were excellent can't comment on the chips as I didn't have any

My husband called to fish kitchen tonight for our tea I ordered a home made fish cake which looked like yesterday’s and was as dry as anything husband had a curry which was mostly full of peas very disappointed what a waste of money

Tried the chips BBQ chicken curry with cheese in a tray today. It was sooo yummy. I will definitely want this again.

Second time visiting this chip shop in the last few weeks. The first time the chips weren't great but having tried them for a second time I think that might have just been a blip. The chips were very tasty recently and the gravy is something special as are the mozzarella sticks and jumbo sausages. Portions are decent and prices are slightly cheaper for some food compared to similar chips shops in the area, which is always a good thing. The only downside of having a chip shop in this area is parking. Access to the shop is via a one way street with very limited parking which is unfortunate.

A really good chippy that sells higher quality fish & chips (and plenty of other choices) at a reasonable price. Unlike other places by me, they don’t pile on the chips to distract you from how stingey and badly prepared the fish is! This place is 4 miles from me but is by far the best chippy option in my area as the 4 other places closer to me are pretty damn bad compared to Fish Kitchen. Conti & Newbridge Fish bars each get a 2 out of 5 and Cwmcarn Fish Bar gets a 1. Golden Sun is great for Chinese, but for fish and chips it is also just a 2, so Fish Kitchen is definitely worth the extra couple of miles to get a proper fish supper!

Yet again amazing food, can not be beaten. The batter was so tastful and crispy and the chips were cooked to perfection!

By far the best fish and chips anywhere around our area. Everything cooked to perfection crispy batter and white fkakes of fish also twice cooked chips. A little more expensive than most around here but worth every penny. Recommended to anyone who likes their fish & Chips.

First class Gluten Free menu (look out for Glutenmania events on Facebook). Fresh, great tasting cod bites that weren’t greasy. Piping hot twice cooked chips that were crisp on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Irish Curry that tasted really good. Servers are knowledgeable...
