The Commercial Inn in Caerphilly

It was my first time visiting this pub yesterday and I will definitely be visiting again. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a smile and a friendly "hello" . I had my 2 children with me and the bar staff made friendly conversation with them and made them feel comfortable. I was shocked that a pint of carling was only £3.50 which is a very good price compared to other establishments that I have visited previously. I didn't have any food but the menu seemed amazing so I will definitely be ordering some food when I go next

Lovely little pub, the staff and landlady are really friendly and attentive. They were really welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Definitely worth a visit.

Needed a quick meal recently when passing through. The pub was very dated and in need of refurbishment. Personally, I didnt enjoy the food as it didn’t seem fresh and I disliked the atmosphere from staff. I won’t be returning or recommending.

Well this was an unexpected treat. Stopped initially for some food, had the burger, was exceptional. I mean exceptional. Beer is beautiful obviously take good care of them lines and cellar. Have been back a couple of times since as well

Friendly place but need to work the bar better. Standing at one end and no service at all.

Eaten here before and the food has always been lovely, very disappointed today...Yorkshire pudding still frozen in the middle, gravy tasteless, veg rock hard, complained and was spoken to like i was 12 by the land lady, very rude and condescending trying to tell me i was wrong, asked me why i didn't say something was wrong when the waiter asked if the food was okay, hun i was still putting my mint sauce on the food had only just touched the table, anyway the pudding was nice, warmer than my main course and it was ice cream😂

Went for funeral, but pub was lovely,food superb. Nice to see lots of old friends. Spent a lot of time there in my you. Lots of changes since then. Done out nicely though . One of those pubs on your doorstep but don't use as font go out these days,but will make an effort in the summer as had lovely beer garden

Always a good atmosphere and the Guiness isnt bad either.

Decided to visit after reading the reviews, and was not disappointed.The welcome was lovely, the food a definite ten out of ten, and the service was superb, and so friendly.Will certainly be returning! Thank you all, for a lovely experience!

chicken pie taste less in a thin wet sauce. hard fries 🍟 should not be served in the poorest of cafes bullet peas when the waitress ask if everything was okay we said yes and she replied are you sure as if to say really!!

Great pub with brilliant atmosphere. As they weren't serving food at the time they were happy to let us buy a take in from the local Kebab shop.

Sunday roast today was absolutely fantastic. So much food, all freshly prepared along with homemade roasters and Yorkshire puddings. I highly recommend to anyone looking to try somewhere new. Chef Steve was great and the service from Sarah and Julliete was spot on too.

A very nice Sunday dinner . A generous portion of meat and 6 different veg. Good value for money and can't wait to go again.

We came here for Sunday lunch and the roast potatoes were hands down the best I’ve ever had , the attention to detail with the food and the care from the staff was top tier , beautiful place and even better food 10/10 can’t recommend enough , chef even came to say hello and was impeccable service from beginning to end - thank you!

Great menu! Sunday lunch was tasty, starters and desserts were also delicious. All freshly made to order. Staff very attentive and even the chef popped out to see if everything was ok! Great selection of ales, cider and gin too! Will definitely be back!

Beautiful dinner yesterday, garlic mushrooms were a dream, lovely and creamy with a perfect Sunday dinner to follow (Yorkshire puddings were the one!) credit to the chef and staff.

Sunday dinner with family was great plenty of veg good value and tasty food. Sad no roast Lamb my favourite staff friendly thank you all

This is our local pub. In our opinion it is bar far the best in the area. Great selection of guest beers and good food.

Sunday lunch! What a beautiful meal! Lucky to get a table for 3 at this popular venue despite ringing Sunday morning. Had a beef Sunday lunch. It was so uniquely presented and so delicious!The beef was so thickly sliced and melted in your mouth. Roast potatoes, pig in blanket, beef, stuffing, parsnip, carrot, gravy all resting in a huge Yorkshire pudding which filled the serving dish. Vegetables, (Cauliflower in a sauce, broccoli, peas, red cabbage) served separately so you could help yourself. Fab meal! 30 April 2023

Lovely pub, we popped in after a curry.

Popped into the Commercial for some lunch after a bit of shopping. Really disapointed with the standard of food. Bland and luke warm. We have eaten here a few times before and always found the food nice. After chatting with some of the locals, we learnt the pub is under new management and have a new chef. Shame .....

Unfortunately went there for a friend's wake,pub was very friendly&good prices as well.

This lunchtime we visited the Commercial Inn at Risca for our usual Xmas lunch outing. The pub was as usual decorated very well without going over the top. The new chef, Tom is now in situ and my wife and I started with a prawn & salmon salad which was excellent. This was followed by a modern day twist on the traditional Xmas turkey which went down well. The dessert was a white chocolate & hazelnut cheesecake which proved to be the star of the show. Quite simply it's right up there with the best. My wife & I would like to thank the commercial team for looking after us this afternoon. Hope you all have a great Christmas & a Happy New Year.👏👏👏👍

Myself hubby son and grandson went for dinner at the commercial Inn,very disappointed with the food,for 4 the size of the veg were very poor,small dish of peas just enough for 2 , 2 small pieces of broccoli and red cabbage,just about feed me yet alone 4 people no gravey boat just a bit of gravey on the plate,my son had the chicken which he said was nice ,the other 3 had pork belly,all in a Yorkshire pudding which you could not cut,burnt around edges,disgusted won't be going there again,I think they are under new management,very poor the other menu was for better

I really like this pub everything tastes so fresh and local. (This is my 2nd time coming here). This time I had a burger fries and side order of onion rings absolutely beautiful. And for dessert I had the Biscoff Cheese cake the taste buds were alive eating this it was so heavenly I could have easily ordered a 2nd!! except I was quite full. Staff wonderful and pleasant very polite. I'm going to try a make a habit coming into risca when I can. 10/10

Had a lovely meal. Food was amazing. Friendly service. Clean toilets. Definitely recommend a pop in with the family for lunch and a place to relax.

Visited yesterday for dinner with a friend. Menu had changed so was a little apprehensive. Opted for the pulled pork and brisket and OMG it was incredible, my friend had the same (she changed her mind 3 times). It was hot, full of flavours and just perfect…. Only downside is I wanted more… the lady who served us all afternoon her fave food was also the same as what we chose, and she was very friendly as were all the staff we encountered. I’m a regular for nights out in risca with work but not for food but I’m already planning my next dinner date back here Thank you all keep up the good work

One of the best pubs my family and I have visited. The food was tremendous, especially the brisket croquettes and the chicken wings. There was a widespread selection of drinks, including a range of craft beers and flavoured spirits. My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our trip and will be visiting again very soon! 5 🌟

food was very overpriced and overrated. pub staff are friendly and beer is what you pay for a nice local pint, however i don’t appreciate paying city prices for something i could make better at home 🥺

Friendly local pub with good selection of well priced drinks - real ales and still ciders are a feature and change regularly. Pub is in CAMRA good beer guide. Food is good quality pub food at reasonable prices. Pool table, plenty of TVs to watch the sport and a fully covered outside seating area at the front to watch the world go by

Disgraceful staff member. Went with my family last week, the girl with the dark hair was absolutely lovely but the blonde girl with the fake eyelashes was awful. The blonde girl put down one of our orders wrong so one of us had to sit and wait 10 minutes while we ate before they could eat. We then ordered 3 desserts but only 2 came out to us, so when we said that there was a third dessert but it turns out the blonde girl hadn't put down we ordered 3 deserts despite taking payment for the 3 desserts. We were polite, never rude or anything just wanted what we paid for. Then the 3 of us went to the toilet and the blonde girl was talking to her friend (who was visiting the pub as a customer) blatantly about us as we walked past and her friend followed us into the toilet to listen and see if we were going to say anything about the girl who served us (she literally just stood there and stared at us and left when we did) but why?? She got our orders wrong, we politely corrected it and that was that. Its not that deep. Shouldn't be working in the industry if she is going to take getting an order wrong that personally. The dark haired girl again was so lovely and apologetic, didn't need to be, mistakes happen and we all make them. But after the blonde girl sent her friend in the toilets after us all I can say is my experience was absolutely disgusting and will not be going back as that girls behaviour was atrocious and intimidating.

Had a day out and we were looking for a nice little pub for something to eat on our return journey home . We hit the JACKPOT with this little diamond !!! The staff were lovely and friendly . It was 39 degrees so we wasn’t wanting a full on meal just some sort of snack or picky bits …. We went for the steak and onion marmalade sub , the 1/2 bucket of chicken wings , pulled pork dirty fries and dirty onion rings …. The wait wasn’t very long at all , maybe 15-20 minutes . The food was presented beautifully and looked soooo good I was too excited and my partner and I got stuck right in ( unfortunately I didn’t take a photo first !!! ) What can I say … absolutely beautiful …. There was not one thing I could have said could have been improved !!! Everything cooked to perfection and so much taste and flavour !! Deffo hand shake to their chef !! The pub itself is also set out perfectly … they had an area where you can watch football with no music , so all you footy fans can hear the commentary …. For us music lovers there was another section where you can listion to music without having to hear the commentary !!! The music they played was also really good tunes !! Hats off to who ever planned the layout … you’ve thought about everyone !!! This pub definitely deserves more then 5⭐️ ✅ Great food ✅ friendly staff ✅ great atmosphere If we lived closer this would deffo become our new local … well done guys

Me and my wife were looking for a place to have lovely food and a drink on the way home from a break. We decided to stop at the Commercial as it had been highly recommended by family & friends. Soon as we walked in we were met by friendly staff, and a clean, pleasant environment. The food and beer was more than more than reasonably priced. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and we will definitely be back!! We will recommend The Commercial to all our friends and family and also anyone else who is looking for a great place to eat or drink in a lovely pub. Thanks again to all the staff at The Commercial!

Came across this place after visiting a local brewery. (We wanted to eat there but they could not provide a written menu except by scanning on your phone!.) After placing our order for food and getting our drinks, we were then told there was a 30 min wait for food, however we decided to stay. When the food arrived, it was hot and tasty, I had the gammon and my wife the chicken. The portions were ample and the meals were good value for money. The staff were warm and friendly. Next time we are in the area we will visit again.
