You have just catered for my Family Gathering party 38 people including children and it was absolutely amazing. Presentation and taste was outstanding. Fruit platter's were out of this world. We had cod n chips, all freshly made to order so expect to wait, but it was amazing! Reasonably priced and in cardboard not plastic too.

Very poor this chippy was so nice fish where beautiful went tonight fish over cooked chips cold in all for the cost it’s very poor it be a long time before I go again my dad only live a cross from the chippy. I be going elsewhere

Excellent chippy with good sized portions. I work in the area and nip in from time to time, thr chips are delicious and so are the fish. The two young ladies who serve during the week are also very nice and welcoming, hard working also. Its the best chippy in the Whitefield/ Prestwich area in my opinion amd i' ve tried them all.

It’s hidden away but easily has to be the tastiest Chippy around! Lemonade battered fish... CLASS!!!

First time here, but had heard some good comments. My friend and I were going to have cod, chips, peas takeaway between us, neither of us have huge appetites. But once we were in, another customer waiting told us about a £4 fish dinner??? So we decided to eat in and have that. Beautiful fish, the batter was so crispy, we both commented on it. The proprietor told us lemonade was the secret of the batter. I love Yorkshire fish and chips, but this bettered it. The chips were delicious. I couldn't finish mine, but my friend did!! You also got a side, we both chose Chinese curry.....oh so good. You also got coffee or tea. The coffee wasn't instant, it was either filter or percolated. You'd pay £2.50 alone for this in a coffee shop. All this for £4.00. Goodness knows what you get if you order normal size fish and chips, you'd definitely need a doggy bag. Everything is cooked fresh. Another customer came in and ordered chicken to take away. Cooked fresh, she had to wait, an enormous portion. My friend and I go for lunch about once a fortnight in whitefield. Usually spend well over £20 over £30 if I have a glass of wine (carol has to drive,so she doesn't get any....shame). We just couldn't believe u got such good quality food and coffee for £4 each. Ok, u don't get a table cloth, a jug of water, or a black pepper mill, but it is spotless friendly, and we bot agreed one of the tastiest meals we'd had in a long time. Can't recommend it enough. Excellent, and xcellent, xcellent.

We visited at my partners behest to have fish and chips. It was a Friday lunchtime and the shop wasn’t particularly busy. We ordered Haddock and Chips and Cod and chips, my partner had cheese on the chips and curry sauce ad I had beans. We shared bread and butter. The food was ok, nothing special although I had higher expectations from the earlier reviews. It took 25 minutes fro ordering the food to getting it. Would I go back? Not out of my way for the fish and chips, although the home made burgers looked tasty.

On Saturday my friend and I were visiting Whitefield and were pleased to find such a Great Fish and Chip shop ,which seems to be so difficult today .The staff were so friendly helpful and the service was of the highest standard,Both my friend and I would like to thank the owner and staff for such a pleasant visit and fish and chips of the highest quality and we are both looking forward to our vist next September.

When our family has fish and chips we go to this one. Chips and fish are always freshly cooked and portions are generous. The cheese and onion pie is delicious.

Nipped in for a bag of chips, and a huge portion was delivered with a smile by a lovely young lady. Freshly cooked, as traditional chips should be. All the usual fare on offer, pies, sausages, fish, and you can eat-in too! Hidden gem.

This has to be the best fish and chip shop in the area. The fish is large and fried to perfection in a light crispy batter. The chips are also beautifully cooked. I haven't tried the pies but my husband always has battered sausage which he says is excellent. I highly recommend it.

This chippy is well priced friendly and awesome food... My family love it and highly recommend it. The staff are always polite and friendly and always happy to help.

Been a few times now and the lady that serves is lovely! The fish and chips are always yummy and well cooked! Very nice mushy peas! Yummy!

The chips were alright but tasted funny, I think they might be cooked in animal fat if I knew this beforehand I wouldn't have eaten from here I finished my chips feeling like I'd be swilling beef fat in my mouth, not a nice thing.

I think I'm going to throw up! Been looking forward to me chippy all day for it to arrive cooked in animal fat! Completely disgusting noone cooks in that rubbish these days good old vegetable oil is what is needed! Waste of money time and effort will never venture here again yak!

The fish and chips at Whitefield Diner are the best in the area in my opinion.Traditional fish and chips cooked the traditional way in dripping, absolutely delicious.Give them a try, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.

A cracking FEB all for £5.50 including tea/coffee and toast. They also serve great fish and chips and other 'chippy' style food.

I work in the area and have popped in here a couple of times for lunch. I can highly recommend the Cheese and Onion pie, it's as good as my elderly dad makes and that's high praise indeed. I just stick to Cheese and Onion Pie with baked beans in a takeaway tray and it's perfect. In fact I'm going to pop in again next week. The ladies behind the counter are also very nice . There's a seating area available and also a sandwich counter, so you can take your pick from fish and chips etc to a sandwich. Having sampled all of the chippys in the area over the last twelve months I have now settled on this one, home made food ( pie) and friendly service gives it the edge.

Popped in at lunchtime having seen a sign saying under new management, had fish and chips and the fish was delicious, the lady behind the counter said they had re opened last week and the place was looking clean and bright and the food was excellent....

Fish and Chips are definitely one of the nicest "Chippys" I have visited. Their food is of the highest quality and tastes amazing. No wonder they were in the countries top ten chip shops back in Rochdale!The restaurant area for eating in is always clean and tidy too, always a plus side =).

Just had fish and chips from here for the first time and it was lovely.The chips were fresh and well cooked while the cod was a good size with crispy batter.There was a queue so expect to wait but well worth it and the prices are reasonable too.

Tucked away, this chippy is quite a find. Space to dine in which is always nice and the palce was nice and clean. Good fish and chips but the real bonus here is the homemade Cheese and Onion pie. Most chippys only seem to offer Hollands pies these days, so to find a genuine pie is a real treat.

My kids and myself love it here. Staff are friendly. Portions amazing. Food wonderful. Just a pity it is not open later!!

Sounds to me like you were just having a bad day and took it out on the closest available fish and chip shop, virtually no fish and chip shops are gluten free as special batter is required and 1 customer in 6 months does not warrant this change. The bored voice is simply because you're being told something you do not want to hear; I am not going to sing it to you in an happy voice, next time i will just sing everything is gluten free !!!!!!!

Called last night after an emotional day to save on cooking I am Coeliac & cannot have gluten, My husband double checked just to be sure the chips were gluten free only to be told no they are no, we had been a few weeks ago & was told the chips are but fish needs to ordered 30 min before so they could warm the fryer, when my husband came out to the car to tell I couldn't believe so went in to ask only to be told in a bored voice we don't have anything Gluten free, Coeliacs be ware

Having seen this on Trip Advisor we went for an early supper to check it out. We arrived at 5pm and had a variety of meals from the board. Rag pudding! Sounds awful but was lovely - really tasty with lots of meat. Fish lightly battered and well cooked. The children were 'well chuffed' with their food and we all had a great time.The staff are delightful, explaining the delights of rag pudding to Southerners with humour and friendliness.This is a gem of a place and exceptionally good value.

First time here and is under new management so not sure what to expect. Food was on a par with anything locally. Would recommend the rag pudding. Fish was also really good.Will go again. Proper chippy.

fish and chips is a UK favourite meal . if you go to UK you should try fish and chips for one time .its a great and tasty meal i loved it and i had tried it for first time in Manchester city

My family loved this place and said it was very fresh and nicely fried. For a group of five adults we got 3 platters (fish and chips) and two other fish only meals. This was quite sufficient.

This chippy is so convenient as its in walking distance. We come once a week and each time, we have a fantastic tasty meal, with friendly service.

Disappointing visit our 2nd time around. We got there around 20 minutes before closing time, and although the fish was cooked to order it was much smaller than last time and not worth the price. The chips were the dregs of the day- fresh batch not bothered to be cooked, and they were cold, as well as a tiny portion despite paying for "large" and myself and partner were sharing. Probably won't try here again.

Pra quem quer conhecer ou já conhece um bom lanche inglês, esse é um bom lugar. Comida muito saborosa.

Had to go and visit this place after reading the reviews, and to be brutally honest it was average for a fish and chip shop , I was expecting it to be the best I'd ever tasted but it's not even in my top 50 best fish and chip shops , great haddock but the chips peas curry gravy all below average IMO

Visited this chip shop after reading other reviews on trip adviser. Always enjoyed Yorkshire fish and chips due to batter and fat cooked in. On seeing this "chippy" from the outside I was a little put off, however we still ventured inside. A very warm welcome from the owner and inside was immaculately clean. Fish was cooked to order and was as tasty as I expected it to be, service also was very quick. There were tables inside where you could dine and have tea, bread and butter. It is well worth a visit if you are in the area as I was, but I wouldn't say make a special journey to go. It is a shame re the setting it is in which is a little run down, I am sure in another part of the town you would be queuing outside daily to go in and enjoy a good heart warming meal with such excellent service.

After seeing this place so high in the TripAdvisor rankings for Manchester, we decided to mosey on down to check it our for ourselvesWe wanted to see if "This truly is a Harry Ramsden beater (which) re-wrote the book on how to serve good old English fish n chips". Bewilderingly and incredibly, two different reviewers used exactly the same words to describe it! Presumably some sort of telepathy is going on round here.What also impressed us was the fact that seemingly someone jetted in from Argentina to review a chippy in Whitefield without even bothering to do a review for anywhere else in Manchester. And then there is the review supposedly from the owners Mum (is that allowed - I thought TripAdvisor has a declaration saying that reviewers have no personal relationship with the establishment).There was plenty of parking available, even during a working day.So what about the food? There was the freshly "cooked to order" fish - lovely white fish coated in delicate white batter accompanied by some really good chips. Faultless.The interior was really clean and functional.No complaints at all. I've reviewed quite a lot of chippies on here - from "award winners" to some of the best Yorkshire places and the food here is on a par with those.Is it worth flying all the way from Argentina for? Maybe not. Is it the 11th best Manchester "restaurant" out of a total of 1651? At the end of the day its just a chippy - but its a good 'un and well worth a visit.We'll be back!

As a Yorkshireman I like top quality thickly cut haddock in a light batter fried well beyond what is normal elsewhere in beef dripping and well drained. I know real Mancunians prefer second grade cod cooked in a thick blanket of batter so quickly that the fish remains partially translucent and coated in uncooked paste. This should then be deposited dripping fat onto the plate so you can watch the "vegetable oil" set solidly as it cools. After miles of travel to find decent f&c in the region I was rewarded here today with tasty crisp battered haddock and chips and a refreshing cup of tea. The mushy peas were also good. Unanimous approval from one southerner, one local and this tyke!

A friend had recommended this chippy so I thought id pop in as I was passing. Nicely decorated and after chatting to the owner he explained it has had a full refurb last year. All the fried food was cooked to order whilst I watched on. I decided to eat in and the chips were cooked well and my fish had a light and crispy batter. Mushy peas were of a good standard too. Will definatley return. Keep up the good work!!! X

I was surprised to see this place was the highest-rated in Manchester. My fish was soggy, the chips were virtually raw. I've noticed a few of the reviews follow a certain template; why am I not surprised...?

Thought I would try this in view of the reviews on Tripadvisor. I had not realised it had changed hands.1. The fish: The fish itself tasted nice and the quality and freshness seemed good. However the batter was soggy and incredibly greasy. By the time I got it home the "greasproof " paper had given up and formed a slurry with the batter.2. The chips: Quite tasty but pale, slightly underdone and soggy.3. The curry : Thin, watery and tasteless.4. The peas: Quite good.I wonder if the fat temperature was low. There was no reassuring sizzle when my fish was put in and the pale chips seem to point in this direction.Portion sizes are good.Admittedly this chippy is probalby one of the best in the aera but unfortunately that's not saying a lot. This does not come anywhere near the best fish and chips I have ever eaten.

OK OK its a chippy I here you say, and yes the menu is limited and exactly as you would expect, but thats exactly what everyone will visit for and exactly why I decided to give the place a go.I can only reiterate what others have said, this is by far the best fish and chips I have ever eaten.The fish (usually code or haddock I think) is fried to order, is the freshest I have experienced and the batter, chips and sauces are all perfectly seasoned, home made and served with pride.I only wish Scott opened the place 7 days a week so I could stasify weekend cravings for fried stuff.

The Chips are absolutely amazing at this chippy they are honestly the best I've ever tasted. The place is very clean and it has a very welcoming atmosphere to it. The fish is fried on the spot which is fantastic to know that its fresh, personally I don't like fish but my friend said it was delicious and would certainly have it again! The staff are very friendly and helpful. The potion sizes are also very plentiful unlike my local chippy and I would definitely travel the extra 10 minutes or so to get here! Its well worth a visit if you're in the area I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed!

I am now a regular customer at this chippy because of there amazing food, polite staff and remarkable cleanliness! I have never seen a chippy so clean. The chips are always fresh and delicious, all the fish products are fried to order so it's not been sitting around for hours under a heat lamp like most other chippys and it's makes a massive difference to the taste! The staff are always very welcoming and are brilliant when I take my children in. The Wednesday special of homemade chicken curry is always gorgeous and is great value for money! I would highly recommend this chippy to everyone!

Living in Manchester City Centre I struggle finding a decent chippy which isn't just another takeaway serving out rubbish - but this place is fantastic, good quality and great food.I stopped on my way home and was a bit worried it wouldn't transport back to the centre well, but was still piping hot, fresh and wasn't soggy.I look forward to going back again to sample more.

Great services from friendly staff in very clean and well decorated shop, great menu choice and value for money, and most importantly, really good food. Not many places manage to get Fish & Chips just right, but this place has managed it perfectly.Will definitely be back for the homemade pies and a lot more in the future - highly recommend

There are several other chippies in the surrounding area that have a good reputation but take a visit to this place as it beats them on all counts. The chips are the best about, the fish is freshly fried to order and if you don't want fish there are many other tasty alternatives to try.

I work a two minutes walk away from this place, really good chippy, miles better than the over rated Armstrongs.Just hope the younger guy serves ya cos he gives bigger portions and fills the tubs of peas etc to the top ;-)

Don't live on the doorstep of this Chippy/restaurant, but because of the reviews decided to give it a go….even driving past Armstrongs to get to it. I was so glad I did. The home made pies are to die for…and are HUGE….the chips are DIVINE……fish cakes, fish and chicken nuggets are wonderful and not in any way an unidentifiable pulp that you are served in some places.Everything cooked fresh to order, which is amazing. Will willingly travel the 5 miles it takes to get there….driving past loads of chip shops in the process.I must also pass comment on how spotlessly clean the place was and would certainly eat in there too. Shop a little bit tucked away in the square, but well worth the effort to find.

excelente lugar no dejen de ir, súper recomendable, la atención es excelente y la comida ni que hablar. Empece pidiendo unos nachos con algunas salsas y me trajeron una bandeja de nachos bañada con queso fundido y diferentes salsas distribuidas encima, eso estuvo espectacular. Luego vino el pescado acompañado con papas fritas, y ketchup, mayonesa y salsa tártara. Luego de probar el pescado me di cuenta que estaba comiendo el mejor pescado de mi vida. No deje de ir a este lugar. Saludos espero les sirva esta opinión.!

Today I got off a bus at the wrong stop (Besses o’ th’ -Barn) and headed back towards Whitefield. Weaving my way through Council houses and traditional two-up-two-downs, I dived into what I thought was the ‘Anchor Chippy’ (the heavens had opened with a typical Manchester downpour). It was 4:30 pm and Scott was skilfully manning the fryers – the smell of fresh chips was very persuasive so I elected to dine in with style. Fish cake on a barm with a side order of chips (lashings of salt & vinegar first of course)...finished with a topping of ‘English’ curry sauce. A can of lemonade was the beverage of choice for a Mother who has been wined & dined over the weekend. Confession to Scott “Sorry Mate – I lifted 6 of your wooden forks”… this was to remind me to tell the 'Number 1 Son' book a table for us - to save from cooking next time. xxx Mum & Dad

I have been to this chippy every week since it has opened, I LOVE IT!!! I love the food I have tried a few different things from homemade chicken curry, chicken breast Mmm and the fish, is amazing. As everyone has said it is hard to find a great chippy, but for me I have found it. It is always served fresh to order, I have to travel 2 miles to get here and by god it is worth it. It is a great shop and great staff, I like going in having banter with the staff I think this is nice having a good relationships with customers. Visit this chippy as you won't be disappointed.

I been in this chippy every week since it opened and I can't describe how delicious the food is!Fresh fish cooked to order every time!Not only they do fresh fish but they also do homemade pies and chicken curry. Since the shop has been refurbished and under new management, the shop is immaculate! I enjoy sitting in to eat every time and the staff are so welcoming too!I really do recommend this chippy to anybody. Am sure they will enjoy the food as much as I do.

Just wanted to say thanks for the friendly service and AMAZING food! It is as everyone seems to agree, hard to find a decent chippy in Manchester!! Well look no further! I visited here with my partner last week who had freshly cooked traditional fish and chips, crispy battered cod and chips to die for. I on the other hand opted for the homemade cheese and onion pie and wasn't disappointed! Again to die for!!!We sat in rather than take away and were made to feel welcome with the friendly service from this family run fish and chip shop. Heard a lot about this place so had to take a visit with me mates . To find an established chippy in Manchester is hard to find. What can I say. Was worth the trip. Had the best fish from this plaice ever, (ya get the pun their) and the chips to go with it were just as amazing. Good laugh with the staff too and the owner was working as well. What a laugh he was. A good Atmosphere is always an added bonus in any place, this had it all. Thanks for the laughs and the amazing grub. We will definitely be back soon. Xx

I'm glad these guys are not closer to home, because every night I'd be having a 'chippy tea'!The best fish & chips I've had in years: the taste we all remember, but don't always get anymore. They don't fob you off with cheap bits of tasteless white fish, and because each meal is cooked to order, it means the batter is delicious and crisp. Nice selection on the menu, at really really good value for the quality. Now if only they would start delivering?!
