Food was terrible but I gave two stars cos great idea to do tapas. But I don't think chefs eat their own food. Or look at how food should be cooked. No idea how to do the pork or spring rolls. I come from vhinese catering background so have some idea but also est out a lot. So going back to school would be best for them

Went here for Sunday lunch but was a little dissappointed that there was no Sunday roast as such on the menu. However the scampi and ale pie we had were both very tasty! The roulade dessert and chocolate dessert were ok but nothing special. We were served by Sofia and Grace who were both very pleasent and helpful throughout.

Best 'pub' around. Lovely beer, food service, and people. Never fails.

Was awful my husband and myself went for late lunch to celebrate our 55th wedding anniversary. We both ordered breaded mushrooms which was lovely. Then I had lasagne my husband had gammon they came together mine was OK my husbands was cold, even came on a cold plate. Was asked if he would like to order something else which he did, had steak pie which was okish. By the time it arrived I had completely finished my meal. The land lady said the gammon was tested by thermometer and it was fine then she said It was warm. Absolutely ruined our day. As she went on to more or less blame us. People beware. Sent

Just had a meal in Black Bull. Starters were fine ,main meal came ,my wife chose lasagne which was ok I chose the gammon , it arrived the gammon was tepid at best peas cold. Spoke to the waitress who was very polite she returned the food to the kitchen ,then asked me if I wanted to wait for another gammon to be cooked or choose something else, I chose steak and ale pie. While I waited my wife finished her meal ,10 minutes later my meal arrived, wedding anniversary meal ruined .Land lady finally arrived after discussion offered apology and 10percent discount. Won’t be visiting this place again and recommend giving this place a miss to avoid disappointment.

New owners, great people, great food.

We have been taking family & friends here for seven years, since we moved back into the area from Leeds. The new management (Jill & Earl) is now as good as it's ever been and the upturn in business and clientele reflects this accurately. We are regulars and live close by so I guess this is not an impartial review. My son and I ate there last evening (26/05) and enjoyed our usual warm welcome, good food and excellent beer in a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. Most of the staff are young, confident and lively people and are all sons and daughters of friends and neighbours, including the landlord's daughter. It is aways a pleasure to come here.

Drinks are massively overpriced. £5.10 for an average pint of Lager, quite ridiculous really. Won't be going back..

We finally got food and hour and 10 minutes after ordering, not worth the wait unfortunately, the pie was bland and the peas like bullets 😕 won't be coming back, although the young waiting staff were nice and told us there had been an issue with the till, none of the senior staff bothered to even apologise for the delay

This is a really nice little pub with a good menu. We did book but I suspect you would still get a table if you just popped in [as long as you were not a large group] The food was really well prepared. Staff very pleasant.

Went for dinner, the serving staff appeared more interested in talking to each other than providing service. Had to chase the first drinks order, and go and speak to them to get a top up. Starter was good, my wife's main was also good. I ordered a Thai green curry, which was bluntly inedible. The rice was well cooked, but bland, white, beshamel style sauce, chewy chicken, soggy peppers and broccoli with no flavour, spice or richness was mostly left. We didn't get offered a desert menu or even asked if the meal was OK. Pretty much ignored.

I have just eaten here 1 hour ago and feel compelled to let people know how good the food is here a must visit if in bury . We did not book but were seated straight away by the super friendly staff great choice on menu and specials list as well .I ordered mix-grill and my partner had boozy steak pie food came quickly boozy pie was 5 star event and my mixed grill ticked all the boxes .When we finished our great meals we met steve the landlord great chap really friendly told us 90% of the menu is home cooked and you can tell this with the quality of the food revisit ??? 100% a little gem in bury....

Excellent food, Thai Green Curry, Lasagne, Steak and Ale Pie, Salmon and Sausage and mash are all fantastic. Never a bad meal.

Always go to black bull for drinks and the food always looks so decided to experiance. When we were given the menu we also received an early dining menu. It was 2 courses for £15 and the menu choices were great. Unfortunately on arrival the portion size was noticeably small and the whole table joked about it. When I asked the waitress about it I was told they reduce the size as it is a cheaper menu. If I’d now. I would have avoided choosing it and needless to say I’m starving The food is really good and well made and the service is excellent

Nice and relaxing with people enjoying a meal. The staff appeared very attentive to customers that was good to see these days. Just called in for a drink but limited range available on our visit.

Visited just before Christmas and opted for the non-xmas menu. We were in no way disappointed. The fish and chips (small portion) were fantastic....really tasty and very well cooked. Service as always is very friendly and super attentive. Still haven't made it up to the Black As ever evening menu is well worth a try.

Firstly the bread rolls had to go back, warm on the outside frozen in the middle. Food overcooked to burn if you had garlic mushrooms. The pigs in blankets on the next table also looked burnt. The gravy has a strange taste... Then there is the thick dust on the shelves behind the seats. Not good for somewhere serving food that should be clean and dust free. Not great value for money

Although we were there for a funeral buffet (sad time), we found the buffet excellent, and the atmosphere was very friendly.

Local to my area and been many times over the years. Went on the spur of the moment and was not disappointed. The girls waiting on were very friendly and made us welcome. Food was good. Had Sunday Roast and the meat and vegetables were excellent.

This is the second time I've been. The service is good. The food is delicious. I had a small Sunday roast and sticky toffee pudding. I didn't like the cappuccino though. It tasted cheap!

I've been here a few times now, and it never fails to impress. I had the turkey dinner and cheesecake to follow, my hubby had the pork, blackpudding and chorizo sausage and mash , followed by the sticky toffee pudding, all of it was delicious. Grace and Antea, who served us, were polite and lovely. Would definitely recommend 👌

We have been going to visit this pub for a long time and having visited last night we will be back. The food was piping hot and freshly cooked. The choice on the menu was large. I had haggis to start which was lovely. Our party sampled fish, scampi and two separate pies the steak and cheese and onion. Glad we had booked as there was no room in the Inn.

We booked for Sunday lunch and it was excellent. All really tasty and well presented. The fact that you can order smaller plates was much appreciated. Staff were friendly and polite. We’ll be back.

Lovely food, great service and nice atmosphere

My wife and I came in on Easter Sunday for an evening meal. As soon as we walked through the door we were greeted by a polite young man. The food was great and lived up to all of its 5 star reviews. Some good selection of pints and and red wines. Can’t wait to return, would highly recommend anyone to visit this great establishment.

Went to black bull today for first time was shocked at price of the gin lemonade 21 pounds for one single and a double it is only 5 pounds for a double in in Victoria on ainsworth rd I ordered cheese onion pie chips beans for 10 pounds each for me and my 20 year old son it was a child size absolutely scandalous will not be going there ever again my son will need to eat again when he gets home value for money zero out of ten

Please be very careful whilst booking this pub for a meal - we have been very let down at the last minute for Mother’s Day. We booked a table for 8 people including my mum to celebrate Mother’s Day for her and for me with my children but unfortunately the lad who took the booking never bothered to write it down and when my brother rang to check something two days before we were told we didn’t have a booking. We now can’t book a table anywhere else at last minute so we are absolutely gutted. This is our local pub and have never been let down before so we are so disappointed and now have no meal booked for Mother’s Day.

Had a fantastic meal here today. My sons never been before and absolutely loved it. The food & presentation was spot on.

Staff were friendly, the young guy was really polite and nice. Good beer. Went because it was well reviewed, had the roast beef sandwich and the fish finger sandwich- no salad on either, sauce was missing off both, fish goujons stunk and the chips were pale and oily. Unfortunately won’t be coming back.

The pub has real ale one of my favourites is the original Budvar on draught it also serves other equally good ales the bonus is it is just down the road from my daughters. Highly recommended worth a visit.

We had a fabulous meal at the pub on Sunday. A good menu. The food arrived at the table piping hot. The wine from the bar was wonderful too. It had a nice atmosphere inside the pub, which was nice and warm/cosy. The staff were polite and friendly. Definitely will be returning. Compliments to the chef/kitchen staff

Lovely, freshly cooked food & friendly service

I booked online for our group of 8 and asked if it was possible for a message on the table for my son. They went above and beyond, they decorated the table with 'Happy Birthday' confetti, put a birthday banner up, a huge happy birthday badge and a personalised message on the chalk board on our table. Great customer care, lovely staff, lovely food. Quick service. And even a shot of Rum for the birthday boy! Highly recommended. Thank you 😊

Just had a fantastic meal here, the food was out of this world. The service was exceptional, the atmosphere was great. We have eaten here before and always enjoyed the experience, they recently had a small refurb which has made the whole place light and airie looks fantastic. Keep up the good work. Enjoyed the atmosphere and very welcoming staff.

The booths outside are perfect for a post dog walk pint. However, we can never get the heaters working, so make sure you've a coat if staying late. Friendly staff, lovely inside - would recommend.
