Fish and Chips at 149 in Richmondshire

I don't normally leave reviews, but was handed a google review card. So here we are. When Catterick 149 opened some years ago the quality was incredible. A few years later the standards have dropped massively. 3 consecutive times now the chips have been massively underdone. I know, why do I keep going back right? Because it was so good before! Just as good as Trenchers in Whitby (if you've ever been.) I can only assume the chef's standards have dropped or there is lack of training from higher up. Again...because it was so good - I'll give it one more go. But if it happens again, I won't be back.

Very tasty. The portion is huge, worth the money. Very tasty!

Visiting my parents who brought me here for dinner and I was not disappointed, the fish and chips with mushy peas was delicious and the service was great, staff were really friendly and helpful, and the place was nip and clean. In fact it was so nice I brought my daughter and mam the next day. Will definitely be eating here again the next time I visit.

Was passing and grabbed some dinner, Great food, the fish was lush and the batter was crispy and perfect. A little more than I am Used to paying, but I will definitely use again. The young lady that served us was very professional and I think I heard the manager say she had only been there a few shifts.

Went there and got the fish and chips which I think were appropriately priced, a bit more expensive however I think this is around the standard price these days. The fish was amazing and the chips were great. Appropriately seasoned, curry sauce was amazing. Went at lunch time and experienced a fast turnaround from the order being taken to the food being served (takeaway)

Partner and I took our daughter out for a bite to eat for lunch, thank you to the fryer Brian for some hella good grub and thanks to Den for being awesome!! Great staff!!

Fish is always very fresh and a good sized portion. A big favourite of mine is also the chicken bites. Highly recommended.

Chips were stale fish was cold and cost a fortune just for that!! The staff were rude and had no manners!! When asked a question just roll their eyes like they couldn’t be bothered!

Excellent chippy, the food was fantastic, an the service from Jo was spot on.

Love the battered sausage and curry sauce. Decent air-conditioning for when it's warm and some heaters for when it's cold. No reason for the weather to stop us lol

Had a fish and large chips from here, and all i can say is for the price you pay, the portion sizes are atrocious, the "large" chips was a small so i'd hate to see what their small chips portion is, i can't say i'd ever go here again for fish and chips.

Food is amazing, service is friendly and efficient and the wait before you food is quick. I normally don’t eat inside the restaurant although it is always clean and full of people enjoying their food. My dad and I love coming here for a quick lunch.

Ate in and had the gluten free option and they were beautiful. Also they do decaf tea which was also lovely. The staff are amazing and very helpful. At just over £10 for a pensioner it was a very good deal. Will definitely be back.

Pound for pound worst fish and chips ive had Portion sizes poor and prices extortionate! £20 for fish and chips and we even shared a chips because we got a large (smaller than a normal elsewhere ive been)

Can never have enough scraps. Glad they don't charge for them. Food is top notch. Prefer haddock over cod. Nearly had to share a large haddock and chips with the Mrs 🤣

Very nice scran and puddings a lovely clean chippy with very helpful polite staff well worth a visit for a sir down meal. Used this place every night after work lodging big plate fulls and reasonably priced.

Best fish and chips in North Yorkshire! We have tried so many in the area but they never compare to 149. So crispy and tasty, not greasy or soggy. And always so so fresh!!! (Shout out to Brian because if he’s the fryer you know it’s gonna be amazing) They will get your order out as quick as they can, the staff are super nice and efficient. 100% recommend❤️

Visited today with hubby. He had haddock and chips, I had haddock senior special. It was absolutely delicious. The batter was so light, it melted in your mouth. Haddock was very tasty and the chips were very tasty. They were well drained leaving no oil on the plate. Although it was freshly cooked, we did not wait to long and had a lovely brew to keep us going. The staff were helpful and friendly, nothing was too much effort. Would highly recommend.

We visited Fish & Chips 149 for the first time today and it definitely will not be the last. We were greeted as we entered and told how to order which was table service. The food arrived promptly and it was excellent, probably the best fish & chips we have had. Quality and quantity was excellent and the tea was perfect. Staff were very friendly and helpful and Brian was a top quality fryer ! I would highly recommend this cafe/restaurant.

Brian, Michael, the chefs are brilliant, the food is always consistently good and freshly prepared and hot. I have been a customer for a long time and will continue to do so. Sophie and Sam the servers go about their task in an efficient manner and with a smile. Always with a joke to tell although the jokes are not that good. All adds to the tapestry of life. Would recommend this to anyone

First visit having driven past often. Did not disappoint, in fact exceeded expectations. We ate in, sat in the front restaurant by a window. Service was at our table and very quick. Food and drinks arrived swiftly. The haddock and chips was delicious. Very light but crisp batter which melted in the mouth, lovely white fish with glamour. Chips were properly cooked and dry - no soggy bits. Really lovely meal and we will definitely be back.

definitely won’t be returning after this portion size! £6.49 + curry sauce £1.49…absolutely disgusting, I traveled for this…next time I’ll stick to Bradley’s in Northallerton well worth the price!
