Pound for pound worst fish and chips ive had Portion sizes poor and prices extortionate! £20 for fish and chips and we even shared a chips because we got a large (smaller than a normal elsewhere ive been)

Fish is always very fresh and a good sized portion. A big favourite of mine is also the chicken bites. Highly recommended.

Very nice scran and puddings a lovely clean chippy with very helpful polite staff well worth a visit for a sir down meal. Used this place every night after work lodging big plate fulls and reasonably priced.

Fish & chips which were ordered & collected. Taste nice. Very disappointed the size of the fish was disgusting .Not value for money.!!!!

Best fish and chips in North Yorkshire! We have tried so many in the area but they never compare to 149. So crispy and tasty, not greasy or soggy. And always so so fresh!!! (Shout out to Brian because if he’s the fryer you know it’s gonna be amazing) They will get your order out as quick as they can, the staff are super nice and efficient. 100% recommend❤️

Visited today with hubby. He had haddock and chips, I had haddock senior special. It was absolutely delicious. The batter was so light, it melted in your mouth. Haddock was very tasty and the chips were very tasty. They were well drained leaving no oil on the plate. Although it was freshly cooked, we did not wait to long and had a lovely brew to keep us going. The staff were helpful and friendly, nothing was too much effort. Would highly recommend.

We visited Fish & Chips 149 for the first time today and it definitely will not be the last. We were greeted as we entered and told how to order which was table service. The food arrived promptly and it was excellent, probably the best fish & chips we have had. Quality and quantity was excellent and the tea was perfect. Staff were very friendly and helpful and Brian was a top quality fryer ! I would highly recommend this cafe/restaurant.

Brian, Michael, the chefs are brilliant, the food is always consistently good and freshly prepared and hot. I have been a customer for a long time and will continue to do so. Sophie and Sam the servers go about their task in an efficient manner and with a smile. Always with a joke to tell although the jokes are not that good. All adds to the tapestry of life. Would recommend this to anyone

First visit having driven past often. Did not disappoint, in fact exceeded expectations. We ate in, sat in the front restaurant by a window. Service was at our table and very quick. Food and drinks arrived swiftly. The haddock and chips was delicious. Very light but crisp batter which melted in the mouth, lovely white fish with glamour. Chips were properly cooked and dry - no soggy bits. Really lovely meal and we will definitely be back.

definitely won’t be returning after this portion size! £6.49 + curry sauce £1.49…absolutely disgusting, I traveled for this…next time I’ll stick to Bradley’s in Northallerton well worth the price!

Amazing food and service, when my Uber eats delivery man forgot my drinks I rang the store and the manager straight away offered to bring them to me. I received my drinks and the manager refused to accept my tip although I insisted. Such incredible people. Wish they had taken the tip!

Was missing an item when ordered

We got 5 meals on new years eve and I have to say it was the worst food we have ever had from a takeaway. The chips were hard and dry,spam fritters were over cooked and burnt ,the batter on the burgers was like trying to cut through concrete and the curry sauce was as if it hadn't been mixed properly, it tasted of powder. Never will we use them.again.

Web site has been changed , makes it a bit more difficult to order,nice staff either nice service

A little disappointed with this one, asked for 2 sausage and one chips with sault vinegar and curry sauce ended up getting home to no sault and vinegar and mushy peas?

Very good .we had a bad moment but very quickly resolved by giving us vouchers and a free box of chips for our wee girl.

Well set up in respect of Covid regulations. Online ordering and payment which makes it easier, just collect. Really good Fish and Chips and gluten free fab too. Friendly staff team. Good customer service 👍

First time iv been disappointed by the chips, under the old management food was cooked to order during quite periods of the day. The chips today tasted like they had been in the warmer for about 1 hour, tough, dry and flavourless. The only reason it's not a 1 star is the fish bites were quite tasty.

Was incredibly disappointed when I got my takeaway last night. When taking the boxes out of the bag there was grease literally running out of the boxes. The batter on the top of the fish was quite crumbly and almost powdery, and the bottom of the batter was grease laden and soggy. On the plus side, the chips were nice, but it really wasn’t enough to make up for it.

The chips are perfectly cooked and delicious, proper chunky, crispy and soft on the inside. The batter on the fish is spot on, crisp, not greasy, light and tasty.

Great tasting Cod, lovely batter and chips were lovely too. They also do gluten free which is good for those coeliacs out there.

Only problem is, like everywhere the queuing can be very frustrating,. but the fish is superb... you will not be disappointed..

The food is always always of a high standard and so tasty! I will say 2/5 times you get a battered sausage when asking for a plain, but this is the ONLY downfall. Other than that, perfect 👌🏼

First time I've been to here as I'm currently staying in Richmond - my niece recommended it and I'm glad I took her advice to heart. One battered chicken burger and chips later and I'm stuffed after a really nice meal.The place was clean, the staff really friendly, and the service was fast.Just wish I could get their recipe for the curry sauce because I could quite easily become addicted to it! Yum.

I love this fish and chip shop.Immaculately clean fish and chip shop.We had a lovely lunch here. The children had a child’s portion and couldn’t finish it all, and the adults was equally generous.Cooked to order, fresh and beautiful batter make this a must if you like traditional fish and chips.This was our second visit and great to see the standard remains so high.Thanks all at 149.

As good as any fish and chips we’ve had, large cod chips, scraps and curry sauce, enough for 2. Light batter, tasty fish and not greasy, well cooked chips. We’ve been here twice, both times the food was exceptional and I’m really fussy!

All we can say these were the bset fish and chips we have ever had anywhere. Simply stunning. We ate in the onside resturant which was clean and tidy. Keep doing what you're doing.
