La cuisine in Richmondshire

Whilst the food was very good , the time it took us to be served, there were only 2 other couples in at the time and both had been served, was very long. The sauce was lovely but unfortunately served with all courses ordered. Due to the length of time it took to get the first 2 courses we declined dessert as we didn't want to sit any longer.

We were a little apprehensive about our dinner reservation as we have looked at this place a few times and it has been closed when we would have expected it to be open. The place wasn’t that busy for a Saturday night which meant that there wasn’t much ambience but the decor was nice and the food certainly made up for anything which was lacking. Our meals were delicious and we were both pleased with our choices. The chef came down to check everything was ok with our meal which was a nice touch. I can’t quite put my finger on why this place isn’t MUCH busier and popular than it is, but the small details could be improved upon eg we were told we could have one of two tables but then that the ‘one on the right wobbles’ - if it does then surely fixing it would be better than mentioning it. Also the presence of a teenager and a dog in the restaurant area; clearly with one of the staff while they were working was also felt a bit unusual. I hope that this restaurant can build itself into the vibrant and popular place which it deserves to be as I believe it’s a relatively new establishment. I would recommend giving it a try and deciding for yourself.

Best restaurant in Leyburn. Risotto with monkfish was excellent. Good selection of wine. We will return in the future.

I've had two meals here now and both have been excellent. The Sunday lunch was really lovely and as a vegetarian I felt very well looked after with the best nut roast I have had in a restaurant. Lovely little Caribbean touches and beautifully cooked veg. Chef came to speak to us which showed ge really cares about looking after his customers. Second time I went was for an evening meal which was equally good. It was also really lovely that the waitress remembered my previous asked after my parents with whom I visited before. Fully recovered La Cuisine!

I was staying in a nearby village which had only one pub so I decided to find a town with more eating options. Searching the internet I decided to try La Cuisine in Layburn. I came for dinner and without a reservation. Nice friendly welcome from the server/barman. (Philip) Nicely laid out dining room with a modern and more formal setting, well lit and comfortable. I arrived at 6:30pm and there was only one couple in the dining room. Good selection of wines and spirits. I had a glass of Pinot Noir, Five Ravens from Romania. Very nice. For starter I had the “Classic French Mussels”The portion was average and was accompanied by slices of Sourdough bread. The white wine sauce had no taste of wine or hint of garlic but it was creamy and had a strong cheesy flavour, not too unpleasant with the sourdough bread. Unfortunately, the mussels were overcooked and without the flavour of fresh mussels. Perhaps they were frozen before. disappointing. For the main course I ordered “Jamaican Jerk Chicken”. The server informed me that the head chef who also happens to be the proprietor, was from Jamaica. The food was served hot and well presented. The portion was just right. The two chicken breasts were cooked to my liking, moist and tender. The grilled Pak Choy was perfect as were the fine green beans and cabbage all crisp and with fresh flavours. The Plantain and Roasted Yam Croquette was full of the unique flavours of the two ingredients. The meal was accompanied by a delicious small side dish of a lovely red beans and rice with a lovely smoky flavour and a slight hint of chilli. The meal came with a delicious sauce that worked really well with the chicken,greens and the rice dish. Overall, probably one of the most enjoyable mains I have ever had and I have eaten many all over the world. For desert I had the “Affogato” vanilla ice cream with a shot of espresso and kalua. I was surprised by the delicious creamy vanilla ice cream, not the usual stuff one gets in the supermarket. This was the perfect palette cleanser for the main dish. Towards the end of the meal. The chef came into the dining room to talk to the guests and discuss our thoughts about the meals served, he was friendly and open to the feedback. My dissatisfaction regarding the starter was well received and the chef insisted on not charging me for the mussels. The cost for the drinks and 3 course meal was not overly expensive and I felt it was definitely value for money. I highly recommend La cuisine.

We were very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant, We had mussels followed by duck and jerk chicken. The mussels were the best I have had in a long time and the duck with orange sauce was excellent . Considering the quality of the food the price was reasonable. I do hope people will support this establishment - the chef clearly takes great pride in the food he prepares. Recommended.

A really good evening in this lovely restaurant. Pan fried Sea Bream and Jerk Chicken both delicious.

We had a lovely lunch here today superbly cooked and for what we had really reasonably priced we really enjoyed it.

Had dinner at this restaurant, was concerned as we were the only ones in there at first. Needn't have worried, the food was excellent. I had spicy parsnip and cauliflower soup, delicious, followed by Jerk chicken, also absolutely delicious. Apparently the chef/owner is Jamaican, he presents his food beautifully, Jerk chicken with green beans, cabbage and sauté potatoes but presented in a very classic style - great. My wife had sea food pasta, she raved about it. Atmosphere was lacking due to lack of customers I suppose and I have no idea why, I will absolutely be back again next time we are up this way. I highly recommend this place and hope it catches on - based on our experience, it deserves to.

The food was absolutely fantastic. Would definitely return. Though had to wait longer than average between courses. Small price to pay for such good and well cooked food. Jerk chicken was amazing ! Deserves to do well.

Looked at the menu today, prices were ridiculous put me off straight away, I went elsewhere

Poor service, staff had an attitude like they didn't want us to be there, menus snatched out of hands, and very loud table clearing after 9pm. This experience was paired with tortellini from a packet. Wouldn't recommend.

The website and door sign said they were open 12 to 2.30 for lunch on Tuesdays. We turned up at 12.30, door was locked and nobody answered the phone. Very disappointing.

Waited over an hour for food. My food was good, crispy monkfish. My husband's duck only warm. Dessert of cheesecake was very small. Service was very amateur. 2 young girls in front of house chatting to each other throughout. They forgot our ordered bottle of wine. Overall experience only 6 out of 10. We won't be returning.

We walked in as the kitchen was about to close, however the chef was more than happy to accommodate us. The restaurant is clean, modern with a lovely vibe. Service staff very attentive, food beautifully presented and tasted fab. We opted for a moules mariniere in the best white wine and garlic sauce I have ever tasted and spicy prawns and scallops on sourdough for starters. For mains we ordered chicken jerk and pork roast dinners, with a variety of fresh veg and plenty of lush rich gravy. Served with a cute little Jamaican dumpling. Chef came to chat with us a couple of times and it is clear he is very proud of his Jamaican heritage, which influences his menu, and made a friend for life with my hubby through their mutual passion for cricket! Fab restaurant, would highly recommend.

We came in as soon as they opened as a "walk in" were served straight away and shown to a window seat. Very attentive waitress and chef. Really enjoyed our meal and would definitely return 😌

Food excellent and a bit different from usual choices. The starters were outstanding; main courses also delicious and just about room for tiramisu which was also very good. Portions are very generous and the service was friendly and efficient. All food clearly cooked to order but wait time was fine. We will definitely return.

We dined at La Cuisine on Friday night, we were the only table in (after we had the food this shocked me!). The lady who served us was lovely, my little brother is a picky eater and they basically made him his own dish which was so thoughtful! The starters were amazing!! We had the prawns and mussels which were cooked perfectly! The mains again were stunning, I had the seafood linguine which I would highly recommend, my partner had the duck which was gorgeous too! Everything is cooked to order so please keep in mind there is a slight wait for the food but it’s worth it! Then the chef came out to see us and check on everything, and wow what a guy! The lady who works upfront is the chefs wife and she’s a superstar too, not only a mum, working in the restaurant AND working in A&E she deserves a medal! I really hope when the season comes round this restaurant picks up because wow they deserve it!! 100% visit here!!!

Ok. We were staying the night in Leyburn, and were recommended two venues for dinner. The first was fully booked, however La Cuisine managed to accommodate us after calling them. On arrival the restaurant was so quiet, with only a couple eating in the window seats, and a guy behind the bar texting on his phone. We were told to sit wherever we wanted to, which we duly did. Menus were brought over, then drinks orders were taken. We abstained from wine, as I wasn’t prepared to pay £35 for a bottle of French rose. My wife had a glass of it, and I asked for a pint of draught lager, which I was told that all draught bees were off. So I was offered a can of lager! We then ordered. To cut to the chase, bearing in mind there was only one other table of two dining, it took 35 minutes for my wife’s starter to come ( I didn’t order one) and another 30 minutes for our main course. What do they do if the restaurant is full?? The meal was ok, nothing special, especially considering I had to wait over an hour for my dried up Jerk Chicken. The front of house guy was pleasant, however he must have one of the best jobs in Leyburn ( and also loads of friends) as he was never off his mobile for an hour and a half, just texting!! NOT A GREAT LOOK.

This is a lovely restaurant with an airy feel whilst at the same time remains intimate. The service was very good indeed and could not be faulted. The food was absolutely delicious. A nice touch later was the chef asking us personally if we had enjoyed our meal, he was assured we had. I understand that it has not been open too long, but we would certainly visit again and wish them every success with this venture, they deserve it.

Absolutely beautiful restaurant and lovely staff , food was unbelievable steak was cooked to perfection. Starter main and dessert and we could of eaten it all over again , will definitely be back and recommending to family and friends

We went for a mid week birthday meal with family. All had 2 courses - would definitely recommend the ham knuckle, it was fab! Great friendly service and staff ensured we had everything we needed. Would definitely go again - great to support a local business too! Use it or lose it.

We come up to Wensleydale for a couple of months every year, and are spoiled for choice for places to eat, so rarely go to the same place twice in a given year. We'll likely make an exception for La Cuisine. Both the menu and wine list have something for everyone, and prices are very reasonable relative to those at the more well-known fine dining establishments in the area. My wife claimed the cheese soufle starter was exceptional, and I can say the same for my Re Cardinal - prawns & scallops on toast. Her filet was perfectly prepared and a better steak than we normally find in this country. My duck was wonderful, accompanied by a flavourful cassis sauce and an unusual poached pear that really paired well. There wasn't much room for dessert, so we shared a delightful sticky toffee pudding. Service was relaxed and friendly on a slow night due to the icy roads.

The food is always great. Sunday lunch is the best in the area. Staff are extremely helpful. Worth checking opening times as it varies in the winter

Amazing food and friendly and attentive service. We had complimentary bread and olives followed by a starter to share, the Chateaubriand for two, and a dessert to share. The steak was beautifully cooked and the portions were generous. Towards the end of the meal the chef came to chat to each table which was a really nice touch. We'd highly recommend.

The food was excellent. Sadly, what let it down was the wait time, especially as we at to pre-order. It was ridiculous, it was lunch time, and there was only one other table of two in.

Lovely food, lovely ambience and lovely people! What a pleasant evening. The chef is from Jamaica so the food has a Caribbean twist and is all the better for it- he came from the kitchen to talk to us and was really interesting. We would definitely eat here again.

Fantastic food. We ate from the Christmas Menu and everything was spot on. The food was hot, well presented and very tasty. Service was good. The staff gave us plenty of time in between each course and we never felt hurried. Overall excellent experience will definitely return very soon.

Excellent service, incredible food, lovely atmosphere. Jerk turkey Christmas lunch was beautiful, as was the sorbet ith the brandy basket. Invoked a lot of childhood memories. Very understated a definite must for any visitors to Leyburn.

We had Sunday lunch here for our anniversary/my birthday. I chose the chicken with the traditional gravy & my husband had the belly pork with cider & mustard gravy. Both were delicious. The yorkshire puddings were the biggest I've ever seen & so light!! There was a small cornbread roll which was so lovely but I couldn't finish it. Wish I'd asked for the recipe (or asked for a few as a take-out!) The young guy who greeted us was lovely, as was the Jamaican chef who came out to ask how our meal's were. (Crap at remembering names) 5 star review all round. Enjoy!

Lovely restaurant right in the market town centre. Food was beautiful and cooked perfectly. I had the pork and my wife the steak as well as starters and dessert. Staff were all brilliant and service top class.

Sorry. Ian was a complete gentleman but the food was not great tonight. Fish and chips Tasted straight out of the freezer. We were offered a refund which was much appreciated but the little boy Ian has as front of house so so rude we couldn’t accept. Won’t go back.

We went here for a themed night, and the quality, flavours and presentation of the food were great but some of the food on the plate was cold and some of it was quite salty. The staff were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us! But the atmosphere was terrible and the food seemed to take ages to come out. Some of that might be new restaurant nerves as La Cuisine has only been open for a few weeks but it felt like the place hadn’t quite found its vibe yet.

Friendly and professional front of house staff. Beautifully presented food which tasted amazing, The chef went out of his way to make sure my husband who has coeliac disease and other allergies was well catered for. We were pleasantly surprised when we dined at La Cuisine, with it being a new venture we were expecting teething problems, but our meals were excellent, my wife had the fish pie and I had the jerk chicken, and they were both extremely flavoursome, and we will definitely be going back when we are next in the area
