WOW, we had the most amazing Sunday lunch. Roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball, peas, carrots, French beans, roast parsnips, cabbage, cauliflower cheese & not forgetting the amazing crispy roast potatoes and lashings of thick gravy. The meat, Yorkshire pudding & stuffing came on the plate, followed by a dish of 8 roasters and another dish with the 6 vegetables in & a big jug of gravy. I dont think anyone would be able to eat everything. The servings are huge. Everything is freshly cooked, served piping hot, it was just amazing. We ate as much as we could, but there was easily enough for another 3 or 4 servings. The landlord suggested taking it home with us, but we didn't. After a rest, we ordered apple crumble & custard. Again, the portion was huge. We could have shared 1, and it would have been enough. It's a shame we don't live here because we would be regulars.

Only second ever visit and struggled to like it at all. Had a drink over Xmas and left after 1 drink as didn't take to the atmosphere. Went in again start of this month and same thing.

Not very child friendly also nothing other than a climbing frame with a slide for them if there was more things for people to do as a family on the garden or just in the facilities in jeneral would would make the establishment a lot for a lot more family's! Many thanks

Went with my Mum for a High tea today and it was amazing! The cakes were light and fluffy, the scones beautiful and the sandwhichs tasty. The strawberries really topped it off, all served with ample tea. I will definitely be back for another one soon!

We are on holiday in Appledore and wanted a carvery Sunday lunch. The local eateries only did Sunday lunch and we wanted a carvery. I looked this up on this site and the reviews were good so booked. When we arrived at 12.30 it was nearly empty the staff were very friendly and attentive and couldn’t fault the service. However the carvery was not what we are used too and we have been to many! Usually you go to a counter where they carve the joint and then you move to the numerous vegetables and help yourself. The meal we were served was a Sunday lunch not a carvery the vegetables tasted as though they had been warming all morning. The roast potatoes dry and hard and the beef not a good quality. So disappointed! I have awarded the stars for the excellent staff not the meal.

I visited with my wife and mum in law. Roast pork, roast beef, or a mixture. Both meats were cooked to perfection and side dishes brought to table to serve yourself so you could eat as much as you wanted. Sue and the staff are so friendly and you can see they enjoy being good hosts. Definitely the place to go but make sure you book places are limited

We had a weeks holiday in north Devon and visited a lot of nice restaurants and pubs, but no place we visited treated us quite as nice as the guys from the First In Last Out! We had a 5 month old baby and 2 dogs and the landlady gave us the most convenient seats to suit our baby and dogs, and the food was brilliant! Simple pub grub cooked fantastic with very generous portions and all cooked fresh. Such a wonderful atmosphere in the pub with fantastic staff and friendly locals. Such a great night. We will be back for sure!!!!

First visit since the pub changed hands 3years ago. Impressive from the moment you walk through the door. Lovely clean feel. Lunch was for 'two and a dog', so we were unable to eat in the restaurant. Instead we were seated in The Cottage, a snug area just off the bar that felt like private dining. I had roast pork with an extra slice of beef (for the dog). My friend had roast beef. Lovely thick slices of meat, a choice of 7 vegetables, served separately, including my favourite, cabbage. . Delicious young parsnips, Cauliflower cheese, fine green beans, carrots, cabbage, swede and the best roast potatoes ever. Gravy, horseradish and apple sauce accompanied it all. All this for under a tenner per head!! Drinks prices are very reasonable too. There is a large, well kept garden and they offer a function room and catered buffets. Sadly there is no onsite parking, but there are several nearby lanes and we had no trouble finding a free parking in one if them. As you can imagine booking is essential. The landlord and staff are welcoming and efficient. An all round good find and we will be back. If we don't make a booking the dog probably will 😁😁😁 Blessings to the cook (s)

We wandered up the road to the First In Last Out today for a Sunday carvery. Great atmosphere and a really satisfying meal. Tasty gravy, crispy crackling and a good selection of vegetables including cauliflower cheese and leeks in a wine and mustard sauce. Chef Chris even made a special vegetarian pie for my husband complete with vegetarian gravy (we rang the night before). We were all too full for dessert - maybe next time.

We had heard that The First In Last Out was doing food, so on a Wednesday evening we decided to go and have some food. We had to take our two dogs with us as we couldn’t leave them at the chalet where we were staying. We were made very welcome even with the dogs. We ordered drinks I had lager which was crisp and fresh. The menu was limited to pub food, ok but when the food arrived it was exceptionally good pub food. I had gammon steak with chips and egg the other half had lasagne with salad, the chips where home made, gammon good and not salty, the lasagna was not greasy and also home cooked, the salad fresh and crispy. I scoffed mine and could of eaten it again. The price very good. The clientele were very friendly with dog lovers among them. We will certainly be eating there again

Excellent fish and chips. Plus, a pint in the pub across the lane while you wait for your order. Pub belongs to the same people. Eat food in the bar. All decorated for Halloween.

We stayed at The Anchor Inn for 1 night. Our room was lovely, very comfortable. Felt very home from home. Had everything we needed for a cosy evening. Ate in the bar on the evening. Food was delicious. Especially the crumble. Breakfast the following morning was lovely. All the staff were very friendly. Would definately visit this beautiful little place again.

After a long walk and, finding ourselves stranded one hot Monday afternoon outside the Coach and Horses, with no buses back for 3 hours and little chance of arranging a taxi we were “rescued” by Tina, who came to our aid. Not only did she arrange for a local taxi contact of hers to pick us up to go back to Clovelly but, despite the fact the pub was closed on Mondays, she opened the bar especially for us to have some refreshment before being picked up. What a lovely lady and we have no doubt when we are next down that way we will be stopping by to catch up.

Food was excellent great atmosphere and far too much for us to finish but I tried. My youngest said it’s the best meal she’s ever had ( better not tell the wife).
