As the pub is the 'last/first inn' in England, we felt it lacked that something that would make it more interesting. The menu has little choice, but, although the food was tasty, we felt it was overpriced for the amount plated. If down this way again, it's not a place to revisit sadly.

For starters it was so loud in there, not a relaxing Sunday lunch as planned, had to ask several times for someone to just clean our table from previous peoples food and drink!!!! Food was very average. Staff were not that friendly and when my son asked for a pool cue to play pool he was told there was none(apparently had all been snapped) 5 minutes later a local goes to the bar and hey presto there’s a pool cue for them(very strange) if your a local you might be ok!!! Told to get to the back of the queue when trying to order puddings when there was no order or queue to be seen. Felt like we weren’t wanted in there. Definitely would not recommend this place.

Went here for the first time having lived in Cornwall for 15 years. Pub is deceptively larger than it looks from the outside. Not a bad place, clean and tidy with a fair selection of drinks. Ordered Sunday lunch which was okay, nothing special, but the service was extremely slow, had to wait ages for the meal to arrive and others were also complaining about how long the food was taking .

So I arrived at the First and Last Inn and was greeted by a handsome man and lovely blonde barmaid (her name is Leilani) and the man's name was Leon. He was nice and polite but the barmaid was the star of the show! The way she made my Guinness was beyond exceptional. She told me all about the heritage of the pub and about how there is a terrible ghost named Annie.. this pub is not for the feint of heart.

Living in Cornwall, we’ve been to a number of places around the county and have to admit this was very poor. Drinks were overpriced and food was nothing to write home about; small portions and quite bland. Feel this pub is charging excessive prices to fleece the tourist. Won’t be visiting again

This pub has been closed by new management and the staff sacked depriving the local community of its only pub over Christmas and New Year. Why? So that it can be refurbished and turned into another twee gastro pub. That is bad enough BUT why close before Christmas and New Year when, if such a refurbishment was required, it could have been conducted in New Year. The First and Last has been a traditional place of celebration for cyclists & walkers who take part in John O'Groats to Land's End activity for a few months of the year; AND it has been a friendly welcoming pub for the local Sennen community all year round.May I recommend that visitors now go down to Sennen Cove to the Old Succcess where they will get a warm welcome; and join the local Sennen community.I cannot say a little more iin the section below as the pub is closed and will re-open as something new.

We visited the First and Last on our recent trip to Blighty. (Can I say here that this was for 10 years my "local".) It is now advertised in the pub, and on the Pub website, to our great dismay, that the landlady and staff were being changed, and that pub would be "redone" and turned into a "gastro" pub.Since our last visit, (see my last review,) the owners, Land's End, have made obvious and detrimental changes. They have removed the pool table, the darts board, bars stools and the smokers shelter, thus making the place less welcoming. This place was at the centre of village life when I lived here, and since our last visit, that has radically changed. If you read past reviews here, mine included, you will note that most of the positive ones praise the mix of local and visitor, the locals gave the place colour and character.I dread to think what will become of this once great pub.A once great pub ruined.

This has been our local for years. Recently went there one evening for a bite to eat and a few drinks. Food was poor and over cooked. Place was empty. They have sacked all the staff and closing down to reopen as a gastro pub in the spring. This used to be a locals pub but it appears that ripping off the tourists the same as they do at their other place, Lands End, seems to be more of a priority. Looks like we will all be going to the Old Success down in the cove now. But what about the live music on a Saturday?Support the locals and avoid the First and Last.

As a pub which has a great title location and attraction we felt very let down by the quality of food, viewing the menu we weren't expecting anything amazing but the food we were served was frankly attrocious. Nothing on our plate had been prepared by a cook apart from yesterdays salad garnish. Everything frozen and fried and to be honest even this was a poor quality for bought in food. The deep fried battered goats cheese well, really! I find it quite sad that a place with such great potential doesn't have the imagination or inspiration to use what are some of the finest local ingredients to be found and provide decent eddible food.

We arrived here after a long journey and simply wanted something simply to eat. Sadly, the vegetarian options were very limited and the only really viable option off the children menu was off. The pub is very old and interesting the people were friendly and apologetic for the lack of options even thou it was only 8.00pm. The food we did have was tasty and served its purpose. We will return and hopefully more options will be available. I can only comment about the vegetarian food. The night was pleasant in the First and Last but sadly the lack of vegetarian options was a disappoint for us. P.S the brandy wasn't a disappointment though.

Me,My Wife and 3 children have just visited for a fathers day meal. We've had a great day having visited the pub numerous times in the past we've always loved it but the kids always become quickly bored and we would leave after our meal as not to disturb other diners. Well all that has changed as they've now installed a fantastic climbing frame and outdoor area to now make the pub very child friendly on the outside this also allows people without children a little peace too as there's plenty of room for both sets of clientele to enjoy their visit together. That was the good bit and we was made up from the moment we entered!! It then got better once our food arrived I had a fantastic mixed grill (Definitely the best I've had anywhere) the meat was Fresh,Tasty and Beautifully cooked and presented. This was washed down with a crisp and refreshing pint of Lager (Having had pubs myself in the past it's clear the lines are kept in tip top condition). All this was complimented by friendly and efficient service from the Landlady,Bar staff all the way to the Waitresses (I even heard an off duty barmaid in the garden explaining to a couple on the best sightseeing locations locally).Although a frequent diner out at places this is the first time I've ever been compelled to use trip advisor such was my delight at my visit. Gammon and chips. Sorry no gammon. Lasagne and garlic bread, sorry n0o garlic bread. This went on the more we tried to order. There was no apology or explanation. Plays on the fact they're a tourist attraction. Staff were playing with iPod behind the bar and didn't come and ask if are meal was okay, it wasn't! Chicken was tough as anything, obviously had been frozen, chips were disgusting, luckily my partners steak was cooked as he asked but that was the only thing decent. The sign reads "excellent home cooked meals" - I could cook better at home for cheaper! We had our baby with us, 8 months old. Asked for a high chair and was given a cloth one that attaches to the chair - not a problem but it had obviously never been washed as it stuck of sick and had food all over it, when we told staff they just said "oh sorry" and that was it!! This was the first and last visit to this Pub. Such a shame considering where the pub is situated. Ok it does have a historic background and ambience but could really do better to offer the weary traveller a bit more selection when it comes to the food. We were so disapointed that we were served up basic pub fayre - (basic caterering fodder) which can be found in any pub elsewhere. It could be improved by sourcing local fresh produce and basing the menu on using local cornish wares from hardworking local small outlets producing excellent produce. This would also help the local economy as well. I can't help thinking the proprieters have missed a trick by not using traditionaly sourced products for the menu. We live in the middle of Devon and nearly 7 out of 10 pubs have already moved on to offer a locally sourced menu. They do very well as the majority of people now are looking for fresh cooked local fodder. Now for the praise.... the young staff were friendly and accomodating.

Had a lovely meal recently. 4 dined: two starters, 4 mains & 2 desserts. All dishes were different and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Washed down with a couple of bottles of wine and some excellent local ale. Service is very friendly too. If you're in the Far West, give it a go.

When our family group turned up at the First and Last at luchtime it has to be said that it wasn't our first choice. We'd tried our first-choice pub a few miles across country, and had left disappointed after being ignored and being faced with uncleared tables. So, the spacious and character-filled First and Last. It can be briefly summed up thus: a cheery welcome, good, honest, hearty pub grub at good, honest prices, and a first-class pint of ale. The food unfortuantely arrived on cold plates, but we were assured that this problem will be addressed shortly. It'll probably be a few months before one of our cliff path walks takes back that way again, but return we will, and it's rather likely that we'll pick a lunchtime.

Me and my partner visited here today (Wednesday 11th) whilst on our week away, as soon as we entered we was greeted by a friendly woman, we grabbed our drinks and orderd our food, wasn't long before it came out and was absolutely delicious! We both had the rack of ribs and the meat fell off the bone it was nicely cooked and perfection, then we followed by having a brownie (I had custard, my partner clotted cream) and yet again delicious!! Great place, great food and great atmosphere.Recommend 5*

Took a friend here for Sunday lunch and sat in the bar next to a roaring log fire as the rain poured down outside. Welcoming service and tasty food. Excellent roast beef and gravy but the vegetables were very overcooked and they could do with some new cutlery - my fork was suffering from a dose of the Uri Geller's! Super raspberry pavlova. Shall return.

Called in on Saturday after visiting Lands End, decent pint in a bar steeped in history, food service started at 18.00 so we missed out, however we did have some rather tasty lemon drizzle cake. Nice too see all the t shirts of people who have made it from John O'Groats, i noticed when at Lands End that at least two people have died when attempting this feat.

A quality Tavern! Plenty of local ales and steeped in history. Very friendly staff and locals, with a proper log fire!! The Food is very very nice pub food although possibly a little over priced, but the pub is located in a prime historic location so I guess this comes with the tourism territory. Definitely worth a visit!

We stopped here after a nice walk around a deserted Land's end for a snack and a drink.Inside there are lots of interesting artefacts from times past and cyclists and runners who have completed the JOGLE route. The food was good - a couple of sandwiches with soft bread, chunky ham, side salad and some chips. As we ate we could overhear a loud exchange between the barmaid and a local who talking about the evening before. The barmaid laughed as she described how a local (who apparently would not be barred) who drank 14 pints of cider during the day, had soiled himself in the pub and how she had to clean up his faeces from the pub lavatories. If this wasn't bad enough, she then, in detail described each place she had found it, including a (to quote) "a smeared handprint on the wall".I did look over with a "we are trying to eat here" look on my face but she didn't stop. After this exchange we were then treated to musical chairs, as the staff rearranged all the pub furniture around us whilst we were finishing our meal.Quite an interesting stop at a famous landmark pub.

Despite the heavy commercialism of the area which in my view was completely unnecessary , food and drinks welcome and very good

Great selection of beer and also Cornish lager. There was a warm cosy atmosphere and it was well decorated for Halloween. The outside seating area had a heater which helped in the foggy evening.Friendly, welcoming staff. Food was reasonable too and much enjoyed by my friends daughter even though she couldn't finish it! It looked to be a good place to stay as well.

Great specials. However for a family of 5 it was slightly pricey for what we had and the value e.g order at the bar and compare that with somewhere that does not have the location however provides fabulous service and food - First and last you need to think about what your market is...

Having spent an age trying to get the few miles to Land's End we stopped at the First and Last Inn in Sennen for a late lunch. The place was pretty much empty and very dark, dark enough that your eyes took time to adjust coming out of the August sunlight. We ordered off the basic menu and sat to wait for our meal. The room was dark with a strong smell of beer and disinfectant mixed together making for an unpleasant welcome. The ceiling was covered with old T-shirts from past Land's end to John O'Groats charity journeys. The T-shirts spanned many years and told many stories of the success of those undertaking the trips but the charity messages were often sobering and sad tales. It kind of lent an air of quiet despair and melancholy to the place. While we waited what seemed like an age for our burgers and chips we noticed a huge spider climbing over the edge of one of the t-shirts stapled to the ceiling and begin its long drop downwards on a single strand of silk. It got us thinking about how many other things and years of dirt were held in the sagging ceiling coverings. The food finally arrived, and we had to then go and get our own cutlery from a stand at the end of the bar, plus tomato ketchup, already set out in numerous open small paper pots. I wondered how long they'd sat there, near the door to the toilet, with every client passing by on their way to the bar. The food was very basic, edible, just, but very basic. Had we any other choice we'd have gone elsewhere but there's nothing in the vicinity other than the shockingly expensive tourist trap rip off that is Land's End. I won't be back to the First and Last Inn....maybe that's where it gets its name from as that was my first and last visit.

We visited here as a family of four. Food was ok, service was good, I wouldn't rave about the place though. The only issue I had with the place was that the food service only started at 6pm, if you are trying to encourage family's with young children, surely 5pm would be a better time to start serving food!

We stayed in Truro for the weekend so just had to go that little bit further and see Lands EndWe chose this place after reading Tripadvisor reviews and what a find!!!You don't turn right into Sennen Cove you go straight on about half a mile and you'll see it on your left next to an old church By the way it is worth visiting Sennen Cove as you get closer to the sea than at Lands End with some spectacular pics !!The First and Last is a quirky pub steeped in history with a well covered in glass as you enter the bar....you can spot the tourists as they are all busy taking photos lolIt's the sort of pub you wished you had stayed the night in... They do accomodation The staff are really friendly and prices are easy on the pocket We all had the beef Sunday lunch which was excellent (£8.95) and my one daughter had the prime beef burger (special) priced at £10.50Great food and excellent value topped off with brilliant customer service A must visit from me !!!!!!!!

A wonderfully old and historical pub offering local hand pulled ales and meals. The interior walls clad with all manner of maritime photos and articles particulary its links with the local smuggling industry and just in front of the bar you can peer down through glass into an escape tunnel used to evade the Excise Men. Well worth a visit

We ate here a few times recently while in Sennen. Food was always really nice especially the pie, best I've ever had. Other reviewers have commented on the portions, they have either increased or these people are greedy. There was definitely enough food. The pub is inviting and has a glass window in the floor to a well, my little one loved the wheel on the wall. The prices are average c. £11 a dish. Girl behind bar very friendly and fast. Nice to have a kids menu that has a large choice, steak, rice and peas for £5 with a mini milk. Only suggestion would be to install a kid play area out the back. Dogs very welcome in the bar.

great pub and staff very welcoming, we had the Smoked Fish Chowder, when it arrived it was a piece of fish in the middle of the dish boiled potatoes placed around the outside, which had obviously been left to boil dry so were caught , they even left the burnt bits on them, the soup was a thick brown sauce which tasted nothing like a Chowder, we ate it as we were hungry. When the waitress asked us if we enjoyed it we did explain how we felt, and fair dos to the "chef" he did come out and offer us a free drink or sweet but we were reluctant to take up the offer he did not offer us a refund. We paid £12.95 each and it was definitely overpriced.

Called in for a evening meal prior to visiting the Minack Theatre, a decent pint but seemed very secretive about a menu. Was told they didn't start serving until 6pm....fair enough, but could we see the menu anyway...No !Menu was finally presented on a clip board from which we made our choice and the food was duly delivered. The food was good and fresh but quite small portions and overpriced. £10.50 for two slices of ham, two eggs and a few chips is excessive. They do tend to rely on their history a bit and I was not impressed by the Manager/landlord standing at the bar swearing away during his conversation with a local.A bit of discipline and understanding needed.

Beautiful building. Amanda the barmaid/waitress was very helpful and friendly. My family had the ham egg and chips, which was outstanding. I had fish and chips, the fish was delicious and fresh. The puddings were sinful and beautifully made.

Went for a coffee and was told could only have take away as it was 15:40 on a Sunday, my wife and I are both disabled and I have an ostomy and asked to use the loo and was told I could only if I buy something, so it cost me 7 quid for two takeaway coffees just to use the loo....thanks national trust

We stopped for an ice cream while on the search for our car keys which we lost on the beach!! 🤦🏽♀️ The rum and raisin ice cream was AMAZING and no complaints from the kids and hubby with their choices! The lovely gent who served us got his wife Zara to help us with locating the keys which luckily where found and left at the RLNI across but was closed, she managed to find someone who got the keys So thank you so much for your help lovely people and for the ice creams! 🥰 wishing you all the best x
