Firewater in Glasgow City

M. My name is Peter K . I entered your club on Thursday 25th July and I was bullied out of the club by your bouncers despite a small period where I consumed alcohol, I was told to leave by a staff member with curly hair despite having only attended the club for an hour or more. Wasn’t drunk. This is bullying party members who want to have fun. Funny thing was I seen at least 8 people take substances on the dance floor with no punishment but one person dancing is apparently inappropriate. Completely disappointed and upset about my removal from the club with any proof or evidence as to why I was removed ( rhe reason was my alcohol consumption despite only having 5/6 Double VBLS) I got the piss took out me and I hope your staff and management know how raging myself and 94 other of my uni friends are. We tried to frequent the club being parties from paisley but nothing was there than constant drug taking, abuse and verbal harassment took place. Firewater is full of hypocrite owners and stupid workers. F*ck that place it’s full of idiots thanks for robbing us for years. PED

The bouncers and stamp people are sexist. They give free entry to girls and then laugh when guys ask for the same thing. Very rude staff.

Up in Glasgow visiting some friends from uni, hadn’t ever been to firewater before but heard they did a mighty firewater Thursday. Unfortunately the queue was stupidly long and we didn’t get in for about an hour, only to be met with a very mediocre club, space for about 200 but the dance floor was tiny and disgusting. Absolutely riddled with teenagers holding elf bars. Drinks were cheap and cheerful but not sure if there was actually any alc in them. Can’t say I’d be back!

Hi let every non smoker They let break the law and let people Vape in the night club its unacceptable as its against the law and when reported To security they say its ok Its allows when its not if they read the law asked to leave becaue u know the law totally unacceptable.

Wouldn’t reccomend firewater at all. They can’t even meet basic legal requirements. Really disappointed about the disrespect myself and friend faced when out having a good night. Would not advise going at all, would recommend any other glasgow club that has even some sort of respect for their guests.

When ever we come to Glasgow from Edinburgh we always come to Firewater and recommend to friends, we arrived on a Thursday got there for 16:50 to be told by bouncer 1 come back in 10 mins then we can get in! Then come back at 20:00 and to be told we cant enter from diffrent bouncer! as was a ‘student night’ but as i travel here all the time for gigs i have been in there before on a Thursday! As im in the hospitality sector myself i know ‘adults’ can still enter premises as a ‘student night’ is going on! Poor show to your bouncer and s*#t rules!

A man was both racist and homophobic to me, and the bar/security staff made sure I was okay and swiftly kicked them out. I felt very safe here. Also cheap drinks xoxo

I was waiting at the bar for around 15 minutes to be served , so in my boredom laid my hands on the bar table. The bar staff came over asking me if i was okay , i said i was fine just bored from waiting so long. The bar staff then reported me to bouncer (seb i think his name was?). The bouncer then kicked me out for “being too drunk” even though i was sober. i was then talking to bouncer outside asking him to use his own judgment , as i was clearly sober , but because bar staff had reported me there was apparently nothing he could do - was rude and condescending during the whole conversation. worst experience and won’t be back.

Didn’t let ethnic groups through after letting white friends through the gate claimed he was too drunk when he was the same as me and other friends

Hello, I personally experienced discrimination by the Firewater Staff and Security. As a person of Asian descent, they personally discriminated against me as I was forcibly kicked out of the establishment. As I was left outside waiting alone for my friend, other people who were of Caucasian descent stumbled out and were let back into the club, all the while I was questioned about how much I had to drink and forcibly told to stay outside. It is very unfair to have this racial standard upholded when WOC need to demonstrate that they are of coherent thought and action when people of Caucasian descent do not need to prove anything. Those of Caucasian descent who were visibly too intoxicated were allowed back in, while those of other ethnic origins, were interrogated and kicked out regardless of how much they had to drink. I was very unhappy with the treatment of the Firewater staff and security and will not be returning back.

I’ve been going to firewater for years and it’s one of the only clubs within Glasgow I’d happily step foot in. It’s definitely a place that suits many different types of people from student nights, quizzes, band dj sets or even just going for dinner, the food is amazing as well and In my experience the staff and bouncers have always been really helpful and pleasant

No problems getting in with the door staff and the bar staff were fine but the bouncers inside act as if they're patrolling the North Korean border. Had just been up dancing for a hour and sat down with my friends to drink and take a breather and closed my eyes for a minute and the bouncer across the dancefloor eagle-eyed me and sprinted over and told me to get up and get out cause I was too drunk, considering the state of some of the folk in there seemed to be a bit singling out, cooperated fully with the bouncers but was treated like I had been fighting people. Bouncer was a wee muscly guys so obviously had small man syndrome and looked as if he just wanted an excuse to get people out, complete joke. I was fully awake and could talk and walk fine wee man just didn't like me.

The bouncers and staff are so rude, obnoxious and in a massive power trip. It’s unbelievable that a business speaks to their customers this way. They have a reputation for being the worst bouncers in Glasgow and it’s easy to see why. I will never be giving them my money again and can’t see the place lasting long at this rate.

Bar is okay nothing special and dance floor is small and crowded. Bouncers on door are on a complete power trip and completely unprofessional. I observed them ejecting people for what appeared like no apparent reason thereafter laughing and giggling with each other like children. Bar staff very accommodating and welcoming but door staff not so much. Very much small man syndrome from them.

Main problem I, along with many others have is the staff. The staff are beyond rude, the way the bouncers act you’d think they were protecting Buckingham Palace when in reality they are ‘protecting’ an overpriced dive. The drinks are expensive and are terrible. Ordered a VBL and honestly, the bartender could have taken a leak in my cup and it wouldn’t taste any worse. Bar staff couldn’t be less helpful. DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Try garage across the street or Mango just down the street instead. Avoid at all costs.

Visited here for my friends 18th birthday just the two of us. Bartender with the glasses and ponytail’s attitude was disgusting, swearing at us for asking for blue roll to clean up our own spillage and just being horrible in general. Not sure who he thinks he is with that greasy ponytail tbh. “Manager” was also not helpful telling us we were lying about the staff being rude. Genuinely shocked at the behaviour. Tip- don’t go into hospitality/ customer service if you’re gonna speak to you’re customers like trash

accidentally ordered 5 jäger bombs to wrong table and was told it was customer policy not to allow reorder or refund for wrong drinks. very disappointed. then when speaking to member of staff who looked like lewis capaldi he was very rude and unprofessional. will not be back and do not recommend firewater to anyone post lockdown.

He sido un habitual de Firewater durante casi un año y medio y, sinceramente, el personal no pudo tratarnos mejor, un saludo a Shanna, que es una gorila que siempre cuida de la gente. Firewater es uno de los lugares más acogedores de Glasgow, el lugar tiene un lugar especial en mi corazón.

Went in to watch rugby but was told that there would be no sound as they couldn't stop playing the (very loud) music due to them being a rock bar!!!!! I wonder how this will go down with Superbowl fans tomorrow or whether they should just stay at home in front of Auntie Beeb?!!!

Estuve allí el fin de semana con colegas del trabajo, muchos de los cuales son indios. El portero parecía un poco incómodo por dejarnos entrar inicialmente. Preguntó si estábamos todos juntos y finalmente dijo que se requeriría una identificación cuando señalamos que todos estábamos en el mismo grupo.Rápidamente saludó a todos los escoceses antes de pedir individualmente una identificación de cada uno de los indios de nuestra compañía. Debo señalar que el más joven de los indios tenía unos 30 años, algunos eran un poco mayores. Si nos hubiera pedido un documento de identidad, podría haberlo descartado como política de la empresa.Si resulta que es política de la compañía solicitar una identificación basada en la raza, entonces estaré más disgustado con este giro de los acontecimientos de lo que ya estoy. ¡Solo puedo imaginar que la administración de este excelente pub una vez se sentirá avergonzado de leer esto y me gustaría pensar que adoptarán medidas para garantizar que este tipo de comportamiento de su personal se detenga ahora!Ya sea que se trate de la política de la compañía o si se trata solo de las acciones de un portero que necesita educación grave, no tendré prisa por darle a este pub otro centavo de mi dinero. Visité Firewater el 3 de octubre y nunca volveré.En la puerta, el portero me pidió mi identificación y, cuando presenté mi pase de autobús para personas discapacitadas, dijo que no lo aceptaría, cuando le señalé que estaba legalmente obligado a aceptarlo, me dijo que me tirara y tiró mi Pase de bus a la calle. Los otros gorilas y el personal se quedaron allí y vieron que esto sucedía y no hicieron nada. Podía entender si el portero había rechazado mi entrada por beber demasiado o por alguna otra razón, sin embargo, este no era el caso.Nunca me han tratado así en mi vida, y el hecho de que el personal permitió que esto sucediera es terrible.

Bouncers act like they’re the best people in the world. A few friends and I met here and were discriminated against. One bouncer even called my friend a faggot. Can’t believe the way we were treated. Don’t come here for a good night in Glasgow!

Usually always come in here when in the City Centre, cool atmosphere all round and good tunes to play on the jukebox

I've been hear before and was shocked tonight by the time I was queuing (upwards of TWO HOURS!). NEVER RETURNING TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT AGAIN. Frankly extremely disappointed, expected better from firewater!

Friendly bouncers, good atmosphere and not to expensive drinks only let down was the music wasnt up to much far to much motown played

After being let in we paid our entrance fee of £4 (on a Wednesday night). The girl on the moped who takes payment had a bad attitude but this is the least of the concerns. Before I made payment I asked the girl on the moped to provide me with a stamp so I could take money out from the cashpoint to pay her- she grumpily replied in the negative. Therefore, my friends had to loan me the money to pay her, meaning I still had to go back outside to get some cash out to purchase drinks. Bear in mind at this point we still hadn't entered the club but had merely paid entry and received stamps. Whilst taking payment we were watched by the bouncers and on attempting to re-enter, were informed that we would not be getting back in. Aside from the fact that they watched us wait in a large queue before informing of us this, we had paid an entry fee but actually been denied access to the club. Therefore, we had been conned into paying entry but not taking up valuable room in the bar (it was a busy night due to freshers week). At best, this is a case of individual fraud against my party. At worst, this could be part of a wider policy to defraud many parties using the same tactic. My next course of action will be to inform the local police at a convenient time and then inform the insolvency service.

I was here for a beer whilst in Glasgow the staff alright but nothing special and the bar area was clean and well presented but nothing special maybe I will try again on a different night

If you like cheap drinks and amazing music then this is the place for you. Always love coming here especially on a Thursday!

Fui con un grupo de amigos estudiantes a las 9 p.m. La entrada rechazada estaba demasiado ocupada, mientras que los gorilas aún permitían entrar a los estudiantes jóvenes sin verificar las edades. At 16.40 on a Thursday afternoon I arrived shortly before a group of friends, we were all having a couple of drinks after our new menu launch ( I work for a large bar and restaurant chain and have 30 years plus license trade expeirience) I ordered my drink and shortly afterwards the girl that served me lent over the bar to inform me that I could purchase drinks for the next 20 mins but after that I would need to leave because there was a student night on. I asked to speak to the manager and she told me she was the manager. I pointed out to her that under the licensing Scotland act she could refuse any one service at the door to the premises but not discriminate by age on who she serves. her reply was I'm sorry I'm only doing my job. I left almost a full drink and left the pub. will never be back, just makes you think what else they discriminate against!!!

The place is a good night out when you're allowed in but the bouncers are some of the worst in Glasgow. Can't count the amount of times I've seen people being knocked back from here for no reason and being told that they're too drunk (at 10/11pm) despite being sober. Ruins the place and no wonder the door-staff receive so much criticism.

The girl taking payment on the mowped was the rudest individual I have ever encountered on a night out. She actually rolled her eyes at one point for no reason at all. Not too mention how aggressive she was. This also applies to the female security guard who on a number of occasions I have seen be extremely aggressive with customers. Some of the staff in here forget they are paid to serve people and serve them politely.

Kept waiting outside for ages only to pay to be shoved and pushed in an attempt to reach the bar. This was followed by a further half hour wait for some cheap vodka which I am convinced was in fact gin. I did not purchase...

Been here many times, most recently was a Friday night to see Kings of Leon tribute band. Got in for nothing since it was before 9. Drinks were reasonable for the city centre and it was a mixed crowd. Tunes before the tribute came on were brill. Would definitely recommend.

Do you typically let your staff sit by the bar and drink while on shift? It was a quiet night, fairly early evening. No one was behind the bar and the staff were having a drink, and kept jumping behind the bar if someone came to buy a drink. Bit bizarre.

It's a decent place with good music and cheap drinks on the main strip of Glasgow. Difficult to get a drink when it's busy but worth it for the £0.89 vodka lemonades on a Thursday. Shouldn't have to pay to get in though. No need. They make enough and it's not exactly a club.

My boyfriend, his best friend and myself wanted to go out for a night in Glasgow. My boyfriend and I are from Ayr so we had never been here before. The overall atmosphere was alright, nothing too spectacular. We asked for the price of a vodka and coke (not expecting it to be over £1.99). £3!! Our friend bought a hotdog with chips that only cost him £2.99! I don't think we will be back on a Friday. It was far two expensive for drinks. The hotdog and chips were nice though!

for 89p you can get a great gin and tonic, the music is the best and the dj will play paper planes every time you request it. Everyone in the venue is friendly i've been there a million times and never seen any real trouble. Great place for a cool bevvy. see you on thursday!

When I first moved to Glasgow this was one of the first bars I visited, and at the time I remember being overwhelmed with the cool atmosphere, music choices and cheap food and drink. However once you've experienced some of Glasgow's better nightlife it becomes all too apparent where Firewater is lacking - from the house spirits tasting closer to paint stripper than alcohol, to the rowdy teenage clientele who never seem to get ejected by the stewards even when they're disturbing other customers. Sure, this is a decent shout for pre-drinks, but don't let your night end in a club with surly bar staff, slushy cocktails and a dancefloor with disco tiles.

Came here with friends as pre drinks to a night out. Great little findLaid back atmosphere and good prices on the drinks. Lots of seating and heard the food is good too. Took 1 star off because of the stairs especially if you've had a few drinks this could become dangerous. Would definitely come back!

My husband & I tried to get in here on Saturday 7.30 pm but were basically laughed at by a male & female door staff! The male actually blocked our entry antagonistically asking if we knew what type of place this was,to which I answered,a pub? I have never been treated so badly & made to feel like a geriatric - we are 44!! Then the female pipes up this is a nightclub - what,at 7.30pm??Disgusting treating people this way,and illegal! Hope the management are proud of their obnoxious door staff,ageism at its best,avoid like the plague!!!!

Had drinks here with my sister before and after seeing Newton Faulkner at the O2 ABC. Fab atmosphere and great music! Can't wait for my next visit!

This is a very cool (though not pretentious) bar that plays wonderful music (britpop, indie types), has great staff and prices are exceptionally cheap - one of the best on Sauchiehall Street!!!

Came here for drinks before going out to a club. Great atmosphere, loads of seating, great staff. The bartender was making excellent recommendations and was chatty and having a laugh with us. Prices were okay, it was a Saturday night though. Cannot fault it.

My regular drinking establishment. Excellent drink, great crowd and amazing music. Reading that bouncers can be arsey but I've never experienced this. Perhaps the problem is the actual punter rather than the bouncer. Pint of Peroni please!

GO TO THE RECORD FACTORY INSTEAD! Absolutely disgusted with door staff! I have never been refused entry to anywhere and thought it was a joke (as others have too on these reviews) that we were being told we were too old! Been here loads of times after gigs but definitely will not be back! I told him it wasn't advertised on fb as a student night or any of the posters and he wasn't interested. When I told him that was age discrimination and he couldn't do that (will be checking to find out if there is a legal stance on this) he changed his mind and said well you've had too much to drink then! Had driven 60 miles, went for an Indian meal, had a glass of wine, went to see Ocean Colour Scene and had 3 ciders, so hardly too much! Considering the average age of the crowd at OCS, I'm pretty sure everyone would have been refused for being too oldSo glad the last 2 gigs we've been to (libertines and shed7) that we chose to go to the Record Factory instead of firewater!I suggest in future when advertising your nights on fb that you state what age you have to be or if you have to be a student as this would save people a lot of trouble in heading over to your venue and being refused for being too old. After reading your reviews I'm so glad we are not alone and this is happening to other people all the time - trip adviser reviews are the same and I will be leaving this same review on there too.I will be seeking advice on this and also contacting the local press.Utterly disgusted!

Been here a few times when I was at university - decent food and drink. It's quite dull and gloomy inside but after the ridiculously-cheap drinks, you don't really pay much attention to anything else! It's not a place I'd spend all night in though. The stairs can be a bit lethal though so be careful!

Was in on a saturday with a group of mates for a few drinks. The place was quite busy but the bar service was very friendly and quick. Would definitely recommend!

Great prices Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, there is always good music played, although regardless of what night you go it is pretty much the same type of music that gets played. (not a bad thing in my opinion) Its very good, sometimes too busy but it usually quietens down once people there for pre drinks have moved on to other clubs, its agreat place to stay for the whole night with a great atmosphere and great music.

The "bouncers" obviously have fun at ruining a good night out in Glasgow, it's a shame really, there's obviously a reason why they're criticized alot

The bouncers for this bar really let this place down, I usually go earlier on in the evening before gigs but decided to try it one night, after waiting the queue the bouncer then told me to 'try somewhere else' Happy to take your money one minute and not the next, its a shame they really let the place down as the bar staff are good at their job! Also the music is great, I can't see myself going back there now after I have been humiliated and treated like the dirt on someone's shoe!! Reading other reviews here I feel like I'm not the only one feeling this way, I feel the management needs to address this!!!

89p vodka mixers, cheap cocktail pitchers, plenty of seating, fair sized dance floor, music can be a bit mixed and the food isn't too shabby

I have been here several times, had great laughs watching people fall down the stairs, usually on a wet day/night. This pub offers a good atmosphere, drinks and food.

Was going there to meet friends recently, arrived at the door to be told to try somewhere else, no reason given. Had only 1 drink as this was start of my night.Tried to reason with the guy but just got smug look of him. my friends that were inside left with me and i told bouncer he was losing business to which he replied ' i dont care' , ( great attitude for a pub in these hard economic times) Dissapointing but not surprising from a place that has gone to the dogs.

Having been recommended to me from a friend who lives in Glasgow, I thought I would give Firewater a try. Myself and 2 friends were visiting Glasgow for the day and decided to head there first. Unfortunately at the door the bouncer immediately turned to us and told us to find somewhere else to go. The place was empty and we had not had anything to drink beforehand. When I asked why, he merely repeated himself. Will never be back and have told my friends who will also not be going back there. Never felt so insulted in my life, shame on Firewater.

Went here on a Saturday and it was very overpriced I wouldn't go again, but atmosphere was great. I also have went on a Thursday and that's the night you should definitely go there, it's packed, good music, cheap drinks - 89p vodka!!! I would definitely go back but only on a week day definitely not a weekend! Tl:dr: nice place, good music, better to go on a week day

Paid a fiver to get in on Friday night.Place was pretty dead and dancefloor was empty and DJ was playing Northern soul music.Asked for Springsteen or Pulp and was told "No I don't like them' by the smug wee pleb in the DJ booth.Used to go here years ago and it was always busy and played indie music (as it sells itself).Now it's like a poor mans Buff club. And their DJ needs to learn his role is to get people dancing and play music they want. You're in a city centre bar mate not Radio Luxemburg

Ridiculously cheap on a Thursday and consistently playing great music, it's one of my favourite places to go for drinks before a night out. It's always really busy, but I think that contributes to its overall good atmosphere!

We went on a Thursday and it had a really great atmosphere! The music was good that was being played and drinks were really cheap which is always a bonus! Really enjoyed it.

well, i did a trial shift there and somebody was meant to call another day, which never happened, only shows how they treat costumers! its alright to call and say No but say you will call and not doing it is unacceptable! internal/external customers - good subject

The role of pub/club door staff requires many skills of which include diplomacy and tact. An ability to interact with pub-goers in a way that wouldn't cause 'undue' offence is surely a pre-requisite. Regrettably, none of these qualities were evidenced at the door of Firewater at 20:30 on Friday 13th February. Instead 3 mates and I were treated to one doorman's judgemental, dismissive, high-handed arrogance. 4 Glasgow guys , well dressed after having 1 pint knocked back from entering the bar by the tallest bouncer. The arm came out and we were told "not tonight try somewhere else guys" In a day in age when bars/clubs struggling in city centres, the management need to know this. It didn't ruin our night but certainly impacted our night and the reason I post this review is to hopefully prevent this situation arising when tourists come to our city and leave with a terrible impression People make glasgow , bouncers like this could ruin Glasgow Tallest , skinhead/bald , 8.30pm

We visited here on a Saturday night for drinks. There is a wide choice of cocktails all at reasonable prices and a good choice of beers on tap. The atmosphere was great and busy enough but not mobbed which was nice.

I must say what a surpise we got when me and my friend decided to try out a burger in your joint! we came in last thursday for a quick bite to eat and decided to sample two big daddy burgers which were out of this world by the way and at such a cheap price we could not believe the quality in the burger! a well seasoned beef pate cooked to perfection topped with monterey jack cheese, delicious crispy smoked streaky bacon and then sandwiched in between a well done brioche bun loaded with the best burger sauce ive ever tasted a match made in heaven. this place was a great little find for us so well done firewater keep up the good work guys, we will definitely be back to sample your menu again...

I came here with my husband during the afternoon on a weekend for something to eat. We decided to come because we both wanted pizza and my husband claimed it was the best pizza in Glasgow. When we got there the place was pretty empty which was good because we managed to get a good seat. I imagine this wouldn't be the case at night when it turns into a nightclub. We both got a pizza each, a drink of coke each and wedges to share and it all came to under £10. At first I was sceptical but when I tried my pizza I was amazed. The pizza was excellent and definitely one of the best I have had in the area. The portion size was great considering that it was cheap.I would definitely recommend that people come here and try the food, especially the pizza. This place is definitely a secret that needs to be shared.

This place is great! On a Thursday night it's brimming with students coming in for 89p mixers and cocktails. The music is probably the bit that could be a hit or miss with some people, it's indie rock and alternative mostly! Wouldn't recommend to older folk at night time, especially when it gets to about 7pm on a Thursday night... Will definitely have to go in to try the food.

Went in with a mixed crowd. Men and especially the women horrified by the state of the toilets. Absolutely disgusting. Smell in the gents was horrible. Walked straight back out, went elsewhere for food and drinks. I'll never be back.

Attempted to go into this dive ! On a Thursday evening quite late on only to be told by the door supervisor we were to old!!! 3 guys 40 yrs old looking for another drink,if I looked like the 15 yr old girl who walked straight past me I would have been ok.pointed out to the door supervisor that I myself was a registered door supervisor and that what he was doing was illegal under licensing laws and was told he didn't care!!! Could have caused a scene but just walked away.Bottom line DONT GIVE THIS ESTABLISHMENT YOUR TIME AS IF IT GETS LATE ON THEY WONT LET YOU IN and see if they can survive when the teeny boppers don't go at normal times when they would be quite happy to take the over 18s money.BOTTOM LINE IS STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE AND SPEND YOUR MONEY ELSWHERE.

Tried to get into firewater at 10 o'clock on a Friday night to be told by bouncers that we are too old to get in try somewhere else, 4 guys all late thirties, casually dressed . It wasn't a problem a 6 o'clock the same night when we went in for a few drinks before going for a curry they were happy to take our money then. Surely ageism is illegal? We will go elsewhere in future where we are welcome at any time of the day like slouch and bloc no arrogant bouncers there.

Often go here for a few drinks before a night out and have found my experience differs each time I visit. On a week day around 10 I thoroughly enjoyed it, good comfy seats, not too crowded, good music and plenty of space to dance if wanted. Drinks weren't too expensive as we bought a pitcher to share. Saturday night at 11 was a whole other story, it was packed, no seats, drinks were expensive after paying £5 (with student card!) to get in. However still able to have a good time with friends. Looks good since it has been recently refurbished. Would still return, maybe just on a weekday though.

Great bar on the Sauchiehall Street drag.It has a good indie rock jukebox, homemade pizzas and a well stocked bar.The decor inside is really cool and the staff are chatty.

Enough said. A pitcher or anything is a good idea and they were pretty cheap too! Will definitely be going back for another giant Long Island Iced Tea!

went here for a few drinks after a concert and thought it great. the music was good and varied, the drinks were cheap but really nice, and there was a good selection. the seating was really comfy, and the place in general had a fantastic atmosphere!
