Fillets in Brighton and Hove

Decided to get a takeaway from this restaurant. Very delicious, excellent quality fish and chips!

Solid food, fair portions and a clean shop but at £3.30 (Mar 2024) for a bag of chips, it comes in at one of the most expensive in town. There”s not much in the way of chip shop competition nearby so fair enough.

I ordered from here today and I must say the delivery was prompt. The fish was lovely and flakey perfect and the chips nice and crispy. Definitely my place of choice for fish and chips in Brighton in the future.

Battery seems rather flabby lately...used to be lovely, thin and crispy but quite thick and flabby last couple of times we have tried

Good no nonsense chippy. Nicely cooked chips, can't comment on the fish as I'm vegetarian. They have been using non plastic boxes and containers a long while.

Great food! They did used to do the best battered hallumi in brighton but not anymore :( they just changed the recipe, but everything else is good! Please go back to making your own battered hallumi is was Amazing!!!!

Filets does is the best fish and chips. The batter is sensational, I am really fussy, it needs to be crispy, not greasy and exactly the right thickness. The portions are big and the fish inside flakes perfectly it’s not dry or greasy. BRILLIANT. Very reasonably priced too.

I order from here all the time whenever I don’t have the energy to cook. It’s the only place in Brighton that sells a high quality take out fish and chips dish for under £10. They are very quick, delivering nearly all of my orders within 20 minutes of placing them. The chips are always well salted, not too little and not too much. I can highly recommend the jumbo battered sausages, battered cod, and the chicken burger. Always cooked to perfection. A while ago, perhaps early 2023, they did lots of deals for the box meals which I would love to come back, like the £6.49 (approx) box meals. They were delicious and I would order 2 at a time, for myself...

Great fish and chips. Decent portion of plaice and the regular chips was a good size too. As many others have noted, the food wasn’t greasy. Overall, really good fish and chips.

So rude, mocked my Irish friend to her face whilst she was visiting. Repeating absolute gibberish and asking her to speak ‘’properly’’. Learn a bit of manners. Came in at 22.39 on 29.09.23. Won’t be back. Absolutely embarrassed

Had takeaway fish and chips and a meal box of goujons and chips. Really good fish, crispy batter and chips were well cooked and not greasy. Good price for the portion sizes too.

Not greasy. Fish was delicious and lovely crispy batter. Chips were not crispy so not for me, but hubby prefers them not crispy so he loved them so it depends what you prefer. Would definitely revisit tho. 1 cod, 1 haddock, 2 battered sausage and 2 large chips between 4 of us was plenty and about £22 total. Ordered online and ready when I arrived (I was a few mins late but still hot by the time I'd driven home too) And cardboard type recyclable packaging rather than the polystyrene. A big tick on that front too

Came for a take away late last night .had the battered cod and chips. Both very tasty , the batter was lovely . Good value also

Freshly made chips with salt and vinegar. Tasted great. Generous large portion of chips with eco friendly container. Would recommend the chips here.

Cooked to order? Don't think so. I ordered last night for myself and my partner through uber eats. The order was accepted and food dispatched within 5 minutes of ordering. The food arrive ahead of time which was only 10-20 minutes. There is no way it toke 10 minutes to cook 2 fresh battered sausages, a portion of chicken nuggets, a pie and 2 portions of chips and have it all delivered 5 minutes away. The food is precooked. Myself and my partner today have nausea and vomiting!🤢 gp says food poisoning! We both had the battered sausages and chips only thing in common. Clearly not cooked fresh food or prepared properly, we will not be back!

The guy behind the counter wearing a hat was extremely rude and has a really bad attitude, and i will not be going back any time soon. This was once a really good chip shop sadly no longer

We visited for lunch as we were in Brighton for a conference. The igloo experience is really cute and the weather was good which helped. The service was slow and we were waiting to be served for some time. It wasn't busy but we had limited time for lunch. The server missed my colleagues order so when our food came, she had to wait a further 10 minutes. I ordered the chicken ceasar salad. Which was very disappointing. The chicken was all skin and grissle I would not give it to my cat. There were small peices of radish and avocado, presentation was poor. I ended up leaving most of it, which was embarrassing for our hosts. The garlic bread was not restaurant standard and could have been purchased from the local convenience store earlier that day.

Great staff, mediocre loud atmosphere... but the real let down is the food, its not horrible, it just average and tiny. the borrowers would order a second main course... the staff make this place with their incredibly lovely approach.. but if u are hungry walk by!

Took my 10 and 12 year old here for a fish and chip lunch as we were passing by in the car. Customers in the shop at 5 past one and sign said they opened at one pm, lights on, food on the racks ready to serve up. Went in and an aggressive Eastern European chap with a cap running the place started having a go that we had entered when the 'shop wasn't open', telling us he 'doesn't get you english' (unfortunately you get quite a few of us english in Brighton, England 🤔). Intimidating and totally unnecessary. Not just me either, he then gave another poor family with their toddler the same treatment when they came in behind me and the lady commented to her husband after paying on the staffs rudeness. When the food came the cook was still moaning about 'the English' and seemingly his own opening times, this time with his colleague who had just rocked up joining in. Food was OK, but spoilt by the sour taste in my mouth, I can only assume the place must've changed owners as it has strong scores on here and is why I went there. Most certainly won't do so again so no need to worry about us coming too early.

They really don’t want customers. I’ve been here twice now this year (I guess once wasn’t enough!), and both times come away amused at just how deliberately rude the service is. It’s not just indifference. It’s some kind of existential anger at the futility of life, the pointlessness of human endeavour, or simply the humiliation of the capitalist system. But there’s no solace taken in their fellow human. Their fellow human - the cheery customer, the helloing, smiling consumer - is the problem. And they will let you know.

Excellent efficiently run ..standards are consistently high..even though extremely busy at times they work well together..love the food and prices very reasonable..the box meals are great value..wont go anywhere else !

Honestly the best chippy me and my family had have in years. The prices were great but the amount with protions and the quaility is straight up amazing! Brother-in-law got a cod and didn't even get the large, it was huge with the amount of chips on top? Amazing meal for the price. He said was the best cod had from takeout in a long time as well. I adore their Box Meal 1. I love the burger though I do struggle to eat all the chips that come with it haha. Always order it now as just love it so much. (Cheeseburger & Chips meal basiaclly) My mum adores the nuggests, (we both) love the battered food altogether really. Always comes warm and basiaclly near fresh when we order it but going down for it is just amazing as the staff are so kind and friendly and the smell is always a 11/10!

Totally different from last time i ordered no salt and vinegar on chips the burger had burger sauce when asked for bbq roll was soggy

I arranged a large order of fish and chips for 54 people. It was prearranged and Nejip personally dealt with the order and it arrived just as we did in Brighton. The food was hot and so many people commented on how lovely the fish and chips were. The meals were a large portion Nejip was an absolute star. he provided all the cutlery and even threw in some extra vinegar. Would thoroughly recommend fillets for their fish and chips.

Guy behind the counter was so rude to me because he miss heard my order. He laughed at me and started shouting at me, telling me to hurry up, I was on my own with my newborn in her buggy, I left in tears with no food as I walked out. Still baffled as to why he spoke to me the way he did :(

Ordered fish and chips, quarter pounder and chips and one can drink. Came to roughly £18 or so. Fish ( Cod) was freshly made and a decent size. Chips were good and a fair portion. Quarter pounder ( for other half) he said it was disgusting. Service not the best, not even a smile or hi when you enter the shop. No seating available too.

Ordered for delivery from Ubereats a few weeks ago and the chips were not good. Previously they were always excellent, cooked to perfection but this time they looked double fried, greasy and a bit limp..Please dont reheat your chips and ruin your good reputation. 3 starts because I now how good you can cook chips.

I find fillets is a great chippy and they do the best chili con carny and chicken curry with chips great value for money staff are very friendly 😊

Fish and chips is not usually my first choice of takeaway as so many times the fish is swimming with grease, and the chips are soggy and clumped together. My husband really fancied fish n' chips, so I ordered scampi & chips and he ordered cod, chips, mushy peas and a battered sausage to share. I was blown away! The scampi was really tasty, the chips were all separate, and cooked to perfection. Not a spot of grease in sight. The fish and the sausage in batter were perfect too. Light crispy batter and lovely chunky white fish. Not only the best fish and chips in Brighton, the best fish n' chips we've ever had. Definitely gonna use this place again

Had done a preorder on the website at 11am to collect family meal when the shop opened. The website said order would be ready for collection at 12pm. Arrived at the shop at 12pm it had just opened and said that I had come to collect an order. The guy behind the counter was very rude and said you can’t collect for 15 mins as he hadn’t switched the internet machine on yet to receive the order. I had arrived at 12pm as I had paid for the order and that was the time I was told to pick up. I didn’t mind waiting it was just his attitude towards me for just coming in the shop. All of the meals were top quality and good portions just a shame the staff let them down and they need to reprogram the collection times.

Used to be good but now I am not so sure. Paid over £25 for 2 large cod and chips including delivery. Got two small cod and chips. Chips were all little bits that were rock hard. Not worth the money anymore.

Wow so glad I found this little gem...I would not go anywhere else now. The staff are so efficient and polite despite being very busy with constant telephone orders coming in as well walk in customers...have used this chippy at least 10 times .the high standards are consistent and prices very reasonable...the large cod is ginormous ! Please go you will not be disappointed

Have used fillets a few times over recent years, always great service and food. Have not been in for a while. Went in today and didn't recognise the staff and man serving was grumpy. Looks like owners have changed. Was a proud chippy before. Ordered a veggie pie and chips. Microwaved pie was not heated through properly (inside just mush no recognisable vegetables). Chips fine. Overall disappointing will reluctantly use again

Ordered through Uber Eats this evening 23dec21. Not delivered, phoned but they didn’t have order. Uber eats didn’t offer a refund. Not recommended. They delivered to no. 42 instead of no. 20. No explanation or refund. Don’t use!

This is the best fish and chip shop I’ve come across in Brighton. My family came down from London just to have food from this spot during their stay. The boss kindly gave my aunt drinks as well while we waited. Everyone loved the food, great service and friendly staff. Highly recommend if you want fresh fish and good food.

Believe this place was recommended to me by a friend. I went after work in their last opening hour and got a small fish and chips. 5-8 minutes wait for it to be ready. Collected. Very friendly staff. Still very hot when I arrived home and I was pleasantly surprised on the size of both the fish and chips! I small portion of chips in brighton is usually disappointingly small. But this was a lot more acceptable. The batter on the fish was perfect and the chips were nice. The only improvement I would personally want would be for the chips to be done a bit longer as I like them crisp, but other than that absolutely lovely. Would definitely recommend! Small fish and chips total £7.10.

Had large cod chips and mushy peas tonight. Ohhh myyyyy goodness !!! The best fish and chips I have had in years. Since I worked for Neil mue and Roy at bardsleys. The fish was pure white. The batter crispy and gorgeous Thank you so much. It was beautiful happy Easter guys xx
