We were staying close by so popped in for breakfast on a Sunday morning. Service was a little slow initially and they did get my own order wrong, however the manager could not have been more apologetic so first class customer service. The food was lovely when it arrived and the coffee was great also.

We came for some brunch as we were having a day out in Matlock Bath , we decided to come to the Fig Coffee House as we saw it when we left the train station . On entering it looked lovely and cosy . We we’re about to order our drinks and food and flapping around in the cafe was a woman who obviously had a huge chip on her shoulder as she was shouting at a staff member in front of all of the customers so I’d say she was the manger ! The cosy ness soon became frosty as this isn’t professional in a setting of a business so we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Respect your staff and yourself if you want to keep your customers

Lovely cafe in Matlock. There was an excellent selection of vegan options, and the food was delicious. Very well priced for the area, we managed to get a seat outside which added to the experience. The service was also amazing, especially the two teenage girls that were on shift. Will definitely be returning when we return to Matlock. Thank you!

We visited late afternoon and ordered a lemonade , Earl Grey tea and 2 cheese scones with butter. Total 17.60. Ridiculous really ! AND didn't get butter , got cheap nasty margarine. We asked fir butter and got told it WAS butter !! As if !! Tried to fob us off saying because it was soft it had melted! WHAT ! I eat butter everyday. Must think we are stupid ! Don't bother if you want real butter !,

The place was not busy at all and there were at least 2 waitresses which would be plenty. However, it took 20 minutes for our order to arrive and it was very average especially as they charged us £14 for 2 coffees and 1 cake - which tasted factory made. Poor service. Poor food.

Visiting my elderly father from Vancouver, BC, with my son. Popped in for a coffee and possibly snack - ended up staying longer than anticipated, full-blown lunch and taking away some home roasted ham and other selection sandwiches. You can tell is a family owned business. The owner and staff were all clearly vested which manifested itself in nothing but exemplary service and wonderful food and drink. The menu is extensive for such a quaint find and they leverage local and fresh produce as much as possible. Please visit this place, relax and sample some great food and refreshments.

I really like this little cafe and always visit (usually twice) when I’m in Matlock. The service is a little patchy but the food is good and the environment cute.

Decent coffee. Nice choice of cakes. Loose tea with a timer is a nice touch. Please have your establishment rescored for hygiene. 1 out of 5 stars in unacceptable and should be displayed on the door. Shame because aside from the score everything was very good

My son wanted a full English breakfast which was overpriced but I treated him because it was half term! There were no choice of eggs, which I suspect is because there are no facilities to cook them, so had soggy warmed up frittata and the bacon was rock hard. Looking at the menu, most items are re-heatable. £3.15 for a small can of pop was again overpriced. The cafe was freezing, with no heating hence blankets and hot water bottles on offer... really!! It's sad to put a bad review because we need to keep these little cafes in business but they have to get it right if they are going to charge the same price as an evening meal. Also they only have a 1 star food hygiene rating for all aspects such as food preparation and cleanliness. If I had known I would have steered well clear. On a positive note the two ladies serving were nice enough.

We sat on table and waited over 25 minutes just for them to take order, shop wasn't full by any means. Another customers kids gave us a menu . We ordered. The lady who made the COFFEES served and proceeded to give us a lecture on why coffee is seved how why when. SHoDDY and unpleasant. we then had to wait 20 minutes for the bill. The food was ok although the toasted sandwich, the cheese was warmed rather than cooked or melted wow one girl worked hard but the lady making coffee my 90 year old Gran moved faster.

We were passing through Matlock Bath and decided to stop off for a bite to eat and something to drink. Liked the look of Fig Coffee House so decided to give them a go. As is usually the case when trying somewhere new it's hard to tell if it's table service or not, and we found out slightly clumsily that it is. We chose somewhere to sit and were quickly offered one set of menus between the two of us which isn't ideal when sitting opposite each other but not particularly unusual. We were asked for our order within a couple of minutes so we asked for a little longer but she returned so quickly that we made a snap decision and placed our order for two soft drinks and two full English breakfasts. We were told that they didn't have "eggs" which I accepted in the rush but it wasn't until after we left that we pieced together that she meant frittata but we were still charged full price for the breakfasts despite the fact that they offer a slightly cheaper full English for those with a smaller appetite, and we weren't offered a replacement for the missing item at the time. We both fully enjoyed our food, the quality was excellent and really well cooked. For the price it didn't feel like good value but that may have been down to the missing item. Also the drinks are very overpriced - over £3 for a 275ml soft drink is simply not acceptable. Presenting it on a rectangular 'saucer' and half-pouring the bottle into the glass does nothing to add value. Overall we were very happy with the quality of the food despite some being missing. The service was a mixed bag with feeling rushed to order, then slow to serve the food, then a combination of no attention and over-attention between the two staff on. We wanted to order tea and cake but our plates were cleared away without being asked if we were satisfied or if we'd like anything else. We paid, we left, and most likely won't return.

I came here with a friend. They were very accomodating of my friend's pushchair and provided a high chair for her son. There was also a plethora of toys for older infants to play with. The cafe is vibrantly decorated, with a somewhat floral theme. There are also gifts available to purchase. A wide choice of cakes are served and they seemed to be home made. My friend said hers was delicious. Staff were attentive and polite, thank you to the gentleman for reminding us that we left my friend's son's dummy behind. My only disappointment was that my milkshake didn't seem to be made with ice cream and it wasn't as cold as I was hoping. The coffee seemed to be good though. It's a great location for vistors to the Heights Of Abraham and passing trade from the railway station.

I often get frustrated by reviewers who base their reviews on experiences that they’ve had without eating or drinking there. However, we travelled into Matlock Bath from Barnsley (on my birthday!) hoping to start our day with a coffee and breakfast at Fig as a result of a friend’s strong recommendation. When we arrived at 10am, the cafe looked all set up for the day with boards and tables/chairs outside and very much open for the day - although a chair had confusingly been placed at the door way. In the absence of a closed sign, we enquired if the cafe was open we were told that they were “closed for a meeting” and “that’s why the chair is there”. There was a suggestion that it would be open in 20 minutes. We walked around Matlock Bath for a while and returned an hour later only to see the ‘Chair of Destiny’ well and truly still in situ. Therefore, we never made it across the threshold to sample anything to review - although we were serve a nice little portion of mild sarcasm and passive aggression. Yummy!!

Charming Cafe it is. The coffee is very good. The photos of table laid with cutlery and napkins and lovely decor enticed us drive out to Monsal Head where we know the views are wonderful to have a light lunch. BUT We sat at a table and although the place was empty ( very rainy outside ) the staff didn’t acknowledge us, say hello even or explain it is counter service only. If you are expecting food, think again. No meals, No sandwiches, No baked potatoes or anything substantial, just a few cakes, savoury pies and sausage rolls Most disappointing. Wasted journey. WILL NOT VISIT AGAIN. Hassop Station nearby saved the day fortunately.
