Fields at Aylesford in Tonbridge and Malling

Nothing wrong with the service, our server was lovely. However, I have eaten many times here and the food has been fine, sadly not this time. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and when it arrived there was literally chunks of cold, unmelted cheddar cheese and a strip of bacon so small it wasn't worth the effort. I spoke to our server, who was very apologetic, not her fault, she returned my meal to the kitchen to be rectified. It came back with the cheese melted but no more bacon. They really need to pull their socks up here as they used to be so much better.

Main courses were delicious, came out hot, no problems. Sadly the apple crumble came out cold. Sent it back and there was nothing for 10 minutes so I asked for a refund instead which they did. Shame because the mains were nice and the playground was great for the kids. Just a disappointing end on the puddings.

Nice clean pub. Lovely decor. Wonderful food a great service. I have no complaints at all. 5stars for me. 😊

Booked a table for Easter Sunday. Waited ten minutes to be greeted by someone and taken to our table. Waitress didn't ask us if we wanted a drink. We waited fifteen minutes and we actually had to ask one of the waitresses over and order drinks and it was almost as if she thought how silly of us to order a drink. Waited another twenty minutes, after continuing to try to get the waitresses attention, and we had to ask if we could we order food. Food came covered in gravy, when other places put gravy in a little pot, just in case you don't want a soggy Yorkshire pudding. Carrots were massive and just cut in half. Then the waitresses kept walking past and looking at our table when we had finished and again we had to keep trying to get her attention to pay the bill. They missed out on us ordering some more drinks, ordering dessert. Such a shame as they really weren't that busy on Easter Sunday.

Never ever have a been so poorly. We had to ask to order as it was like we were forgotten about, we wasn't told when we sat down that there's no lunch time menu on a bank holiday. So we ordered and wish I hadn't. Went for the steak and pie duo.. its just basically microwave food which I didn't know before we visited. The carrot was grey, the kale looked a week old. It was just bland and mehhh Then even though the lady saw we had finished we waited ages again and I had to get up and ask for the bill. She was more bothered about bigger parties leaving maybe for tips .. I dunno? My belly was bad an hour after all night and this morning I'd avoid ..

I booked a table for 4 on Friday 11th April When we arrived at Fields there was a notice on the door to say that owing to unforeseen circumstances they were closed. How long does it take to E-Mail this info I have tried to complain on your site but it does not seem to work

We booked a table for 7pm. We waited at the door for 25 minutes before someone came to seat us. We asked whether they were particularly busy and was then told that there was an hour delay for food so we left. We weren’t offered any drinks or anything whilst we waited or any apology or explanation.

Edit: 15.4.25 Booked to come to the quiz tonight almost most two weeks after the review. Got a call to say the quiz would be on tonight but there would be no food. Imagine being a pub/restaurant and not serving food. What in the world is going on there? Obviously a person replied to my initial post about things being better, well they clearly are not. We used to come every single week to eat, drink and play the quiz. We will not be back. Such terrible management of operations. This used to be a great place. Recently, something has changed. The food quality has gone down, the place feels shabbier including a pungent smell in the toilet area which wafted out in to the restaurant area. There is clearly something going on and it's quite sad to watch. Has it been taken over by new management or is money low as it has really gone downhill.

Very good service even though busy.

Only a set menu we could pic from for adults, no children's menu given , 1 chef, 1 sever, no advanced warning , no one told us until we questioned the menu. We could tell service was extremely slow so we booked somewhere eles to go. A heads up would have been the right way to go for pre booked guest or even something when waiting to be seated for 14 minutes or even when seated by a waitress . Terrible service.

Don't waste your money here. Family of 4, seated next to the toilets entrance, very smelly area, disgusting!. very friendly service, but it took ages for every single item to be served. Dishes rather cold when served, other tables next to us also complained to staff due to the slow service. Not the best experience for mother's day. This restaurant service has deteriorated enormously, to never return again.

EDIT- we have a confirmation email which reads "your booking at the fields at aylesford is now confirmed" along with a booking reference number so not sure why you've replied what you have and completely contradicted what you told us in person!! One thing to cancel an 8 person booking without informing us as such but another level trying to lie your way out of it. Happy to provide screenshots!! AVOID!! Turned down on Mother’s Day despite having email confirmation of our booking! Was told when we got there that the booking was rejected despite having email confirmation and no communication to tell us as such so wasted journey. Rude staff with no apology just telling us it’s our fault even tho we definitely haven’t had any emails telling us it was cancelled (yes we checked spam folder too!). Last time we went it stank here as well seems to be a common problem! AVOID

Booked online when eventually got through on there site to find no booking. Not helpful so walked out

Sunday roast disappointing, would not choose that again, couldn't eat it. Food is usually cold, could not covers be placed over food as staff have quite a walk to the customers.

Nice interior but sadly only positive. Had Mother’s Day meal, drink order taken fairly early but then waited and waited, our waitress stood at bar chatting while our drinks were ready next to her. She then got other drinks for someone after us (3 of us not large order) eventually she then gave our drinks. Starter eventually came out, minus a truffle mayo for mine. Waitrose never came over to check on us for me to ask for it. Waited again for 3 roasts, they came and she left us with no cutlery so we took from another table that no one was sitting at otherwise our dinner would have been cold. 2 of our dinners had things missing so we got another waitress to get for us. Gravy was so thin, roast potatoes should have been herb and garlic crusted and they weren’t, the one Yorkshire was so hard that when you managed to cut it just crumbled so couldn’t eat it, my son asked for no red cabbage but none of us got any as that was messed up as well, again our waitress never checked on us unlike the other one nearby who seemed very helpful to her customers. Went and spoke to a manager, told him straight away we wasn’t after a refund but wanted him to know how bad it was. He asked if I was now waiting for bill but I said we wasn’t still waiting to order dessert, he took order but not really any apology from him. He came to us and told us 5 tickets before our order, fine at least we was told. The amount of custard to go with crumble was the smallest we have ever been given (was this because we moaned!) brownie came out with most of ice cream melted as obviously been sat waiting to be delivered to us. As restaurant goes especially on Mother’s Day it wasn’t as busy as expected so no real excuse for such poor food or waitress service from our lady. Was there for just over 2 hrs way to long for 3 people eating.

Very friendly staff and the food was marvellous.

Arrived for a booking but was told the entire pub was running 45 mins late so had to leave and come back. When we returned, the service was very slow, surrounding tables dirty with black bin bags in the dining area and food was lukewarm at best. I had to ask for it to be reheated. Staff not very accommodating or sorry about our experience. They had oversubscribed on bookings and clearly couldn't meet the demand. Will not be returning.

STAY CLEAR!! No option for 0 stars!! Was turned away on Mother’s Day of all days despite having a booking confirmation, was told the booking was rejected with no communication to ourselves that this was the case! Wasted journey and ruined Mother’s Day. Staff were not very apologetic and rude. Avoid here at all costs. If you do happen to book then be aware they’ll likely cancel it without telling you - my advice go elsewhere for better food and customer service.

Turned up for a pre booked reservation to be told they had cancelled it and not informed us And had no interest in serving us

The service was really really slow, food definitely wasn't up to the standard of a lot of these reviews state. Was cold and undercooked. Unfortunately wont be returning.

I have been here many times and always had a lovely meal, however today was very different. I understand it was very for a sunday, but, people who came in after us were served before us, when asked for the missing cutlery from our table we were told it was on the dishwasher but 5 minutes later another member of staff gave us the missing items and they were cold and been out of the dishwasher for some time. The member of staff that was firstly asked about the missing cutlery did apologise but in a very sarcastic tone. When our food arrived the roast lamb was lovely, however the roast chicken was very dry and the cauliflower cheese had a non-existent sauce and the stalks were very hard and couldn't be cut. When we complained about this the member of staff was very apologetic and did take the roast chicken from our bill. We will return but not for sometime, they did explain that they had a new chef. Please don't let this out you off as it is usually very nice, maybe just go at a quieter time.

Came here as a large group for a birthday meal. To start with, the entire restaurant stank of sewage. We was told this was due to them having the toilets and drains sorted out. Secondly, a waitress came over and informed us there’s no cheese starters, no steak, no chicken kebabs, no pie and no fish & chips. Great start as the menu isn’t huge anyway. Then the food came out around 45 min later, which none of us really enjoyed. It was seriously lacking in flavour and quality, very dry and bland. Not surprised they can offer 30% off almost all of the time. The glasses were dirty and fizzy drinks were flat. Then for desserts- no vanilla ice cream. The staff all looked miserable and the atmosphere was miserable. Won’t be returning.

Most the food on the menu wasn't available due to a delivery not turning up the day before and we had to wait 40 minutes for our food what was over done completely. It's completely gone down hill since the changed the name of the place.

Food was awful burger wasn't cooked properly and still pink and ordered lamb which pic on website look lovely when got it was 4 small tiny slices veg wasn't cooked properly either. Some staff friendly and others couldn't be bothered to serve you and just rolled their eyes. Wouldn't collect glasses off table also glasses dirty and not washed properly building looked nice from outside shame about the food.

They always have friendly staff working here, food is of good quality, plus it's cheaper than the Thomas Wyatt.

Such a lovely and welcoming restraunt. It was my first time visiting here, I always drive past saying i want to try it and I finally did. I chose to eat from the lunch set menu, presentation was lovely and food was tasty. After eating, we grabbed a drink from the bar and sat outside to enjoy to sunshine 🌞 I'll be back in a few weeks for my partners birthday meal.

Beer and wine glasses very dirty, they don't seem to clean them properly 🤢 When ask for a new one they all the same. They don't seem to be sorting the issue out any time soon.

Unfortunately my visit today we had not pre-booked around 2 to 3pm and it was a 45 min wait to get food so we left hungry and disappointed but I do know there food is nice so I've based my review on my last visit which was recent.

Waited 45 minutes before our order was taken. The food isn’t worth the money. Couldn’t request removal of a veg from the curry as comes ready made. I wouldn’t come back.

Been coming regularly for a number of years. Used to be lovely, but has been slowly declining and today was enough. Inexperienced waitress took 10 minutes to take our order, initially getting everything we asked for wrong. Drinks then took a further 20 minutes to arrive (after sitting ready at the bar for ~15 minutes). When food arrived, it turned out the waitress had still gotten it wrong, not realising there were two different meat & pie options on the menu. Food was taken back to the kitchen, only for the same plate to return 10 minutes later, now with the right meat but cold everything else. My wife's overcooked burger was a far cry from what used to be served, and was much closer to what you'd expect from a kebab shop

Amazing food, 5 stars even though they were short staffed and the staff were rushed off their feet, they kept their heads so we didn't mind waiting an hour for starters.

Just got home from the fields and I must admit the food was absolutely fantastic and they went above and beyond for us, we felt sorry for the staff as they were rushed of their feet and short staffed but they were fantastic in keeping it all together and not giving up when I know these times can be stressful! But they kept their heads high and kept going with a smile on their faces and that's all that matters. It was appreciated 👍 Thankyou! To all the staff/chefs at the fields.

Nice and clean, cheery staff, good food, and good prices.

The food was good but the restaurant stank of sewage it was disappointing as it was my daughters 17th birthday meal made us feel quite I’ll and not sure if we would revisit again shame as we go there quite often 👎

My last experience was a bit disappointing but I will give it another shot.

My Partner and I met on a first date 2nd March 2024 and spent 4 hours over lunch, spectacular we are both in our 80's and have been alone for many years, so I arranged the same table 1 year later Sun 2nd March 2025, the atmosphere was electric and the food and service was second to none, thanks to all the staff particularly Lovely Cassandra who played photographer for us, bless you young lady. We will be back again several times.

All great except cleanliness. As with every visit tables left with dirty plates and glasses for considerable periods. Staff serve food and just walk past dirty plates so easy to resolve. In an area known for a fly problem( hence nets on windows) this could be a real issue in the summer.

We came today and arrived a little early and was told our table wasn’t ready yet, as it was very busy, which was fine by us but within 5 minutes of being there we was told they had made a table ready for us which was great as we had 2 hungry kids. Our waitress who served us was called Cassie, she was extremely nice, took our order efficiently (we are fussy eaters) and she seemed very organised. Our food arrived hot and fresh and was absolutely amazing. Cassie came over and asked if everything was ok wi to our meal and asked if we needed more drinks. We ordered dessert which was also fantastic. I would recommend the fields to everyone. The roast dinners are amazing

We stumbled across the pub/restaurant on lunch time Thursday, we really enjoyed our food and our time there. Our waiter, Mark, was so lovely and nothing was too much trouble for him, he was so polite and was also lovely to our little girl.

Had a lovely meal here. I was really impressed with the place, it's was a nice layout and the staff were amazing. Ruby, and one gentleman, I didn't catch his name, we're so attentive. Nothing was too much for them. The food was really nice, other than the steak which was very gristly. I'd definitely return

Consistently poorly managed. They seem unable to send food to your table with any resemblance of haste. Terribly slow service. After waiting 15mins to be served yesterday we were refused bar food because they couldn’t properly manage the waiting diners in the restaurant. We wont return.

Visited when it was the poppy fields was not up to scratch, now reinvented The fields is a lovely restaurant there was a nice ambiance, it was very busy but our server Jack bent over backwards to make us feel at home and appreciated. Our food came to the table hot and tasty, we had no complaints and will definitely return

Food presentation was nice, scampi dish could have done a few more in the dish. Nice setting, the only thing that was off putting the dining experience was the constant drain/sewage smell which i think came from where we sat which was next to the toilets. I think there must be some gaps in the floorboards or skirting boards with sewage exposed as the smell kind of put us off the food abit. It would be good if they sort out their drainage smell leaking from the toilet problem. Otherwise the place was decent and price was good too.

Honestly not great at all when we turned up at 12:30 we was sat at our table which we wasn’t happy with because of the strong smell of sewage so we asked to be moved as we didn’t feel it was acceptable to eat when the smell of Pooh was lingering around. The table next to us also felt the same and asked to be moved. They said they would look for a new table so we waited, they was aware or the issue. In my eyes they should have the corner taped off not acceptable for people to use. Going forward they said they could only seat us in the bar area and that we couldn’t have waitress service because of it, they had plenty of tables spare in the restaurant so they could have sat us there and moved others around before they arrived. ! It was a birthday meal for my mum and it was ruined right from the beginning! We then had no choice but to move to the bar where we was told we had to pay as we go not have a tab also awful as we wasn’t booked for the bar yet again a let down. We the ordered drinks which we had to change as they had ran out of lime cordial we ordered food which when came out was not as described on the menu and food had been left off that was supposed to be on the plate we had to ask for the correct things! And lastly we ordered some puddings and as expected something come out wrong! Overall we spent £180 and it was awful the whole experience and my mums birthday meal ruined! Chances of a return are minimal the staff were rude and didn’t apologise for any of it, the poor girl at the bar ended up with the brunt of it overall experience was terrible

Have been here a couple of times, the first time food was lovely. Visited again today and it was quite frankly a bit of a disaster. We went early afternoon and one of the starters was already unavailable, which was disappointing. Mains arrived and they where disappointing, ordered the trio of roast, meats where cooked well, roast potatoes where cold and dry, Brussels where not prepared properly, Yorkshire pudding was dry as which the lacking gravy didn't help with, honestly felt like the kitchen couldn't be bothered, and season veg is a bit of a cop out to provide you with the cheap stuff, no broccoli but two types of peas, all of the roasts were also missing the crackling. Another guest ordered the pie and steak and it arrived missing the vegetables, and the portion size was tiny considering the price. Another guest had steak and was the "triple cooked chunky chips" barley looked like they had been cooked in the fryer l. Then came the desserts, and the chocolate brownie sundae had no brownie in it and the. I ordered a vanilla latte which I could not taste the vanilla, the waitress did bring the bottle over and said stop when it's enough, It still could have done with more. All on all waiting staff where friendly and helpful, however the experience was let down by the kitchen, and it has put us off from wanting to return sadly.

Service was average and similar to the last time we visited. Starter took a while to come out, even though the restaurant was not busy. The starter of garlic mushrooms was tasty, but was missing the crispy bacon. The mains, my pie seemed as if it was sitting on the passing for a very long time, the pie crust was very tough. My partner ordered the halloumi skewer. This had a burnt piece (1 of only 4) of halloumi. When brought to the waitresses attention, she took it back to the kitchen and did not seem to know how to offer an apology. The dish was also missing any hot honey dresing and had no courgette on the skewer. Again when brought to the servers attention, didn't know how to respond with no mention of maybe taking off a drink as way of an apology. When spoke with what I a assume is the bar manager (?) he did apologise and said it was the kitchens first night with new menu. Not excusing the experience we had just had, and again, not offering anything by way of apology. Definitely not an experience we will be repeating. This is a shame as the last time we visited, we really enjoyed the food.

Lovely pub, staff are friendly and it's a great atmosphere with good service. The quiz is also excellent on certain Tuesdays. Jack from the bar is always helpful and accommodating.

The fields has a lovely atmosphere, the food is great and the staff are lovely. We were served by lily today who was so helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend.
