Only dined in the bar area. Nice atmosphere, with good vegan options. Service is a little slow but I prefer the relaxed pace compared to feeling rushed.

Food portions small,no sauce on prawn cocktail,garlic bread hard& tasteless,service slow & unattentive,bill payment ended up going to bar to pay as no staff around after waiting 30 mins,all in a very dissapointing visit.

We had a very pleasant sunday lunch here. The waitress that served us was very friendly and was more than happy to ammend the menu for me. I asked for sausages instead of meat on my roast dinner and she managed to Ok it with the chef. Very happy about that! The food was good quality and the portion sizes were very generous. If I had to be critical, I'd say that food could have been hotter, and the stuffing balls were a bit dissapointing, but these are small niggles. They only serve Pepsi out of a squirt gun which is always a no-no in my book. Its usually flat by the time you get it.

Firstly the service was excellent so I have no issues on that front However as an experience goes it wasnt great Toilets also smelt bad as well We were seated in the bar area as the restaurant seemed to be closed down for the night even though that is what we requested . There was a quiz night on which I totally get you need to make money .However it was so loud and the microphone so distorted we could hardly speak to each other . Also nobody enjoyed the desserts and we all picked different ones What is going on there They all tasted diary free well actually they didn't taste at all (my daughters words not mine as she is the expert in this area) So a post Christmas meal that I paid for for my family and both sets of parents was disappointing .However the place is lovely ,the staff were great and efficient and I can see massive potential for a great experience should we visit again

We were served by Cheryl today. The lady in question was first class she would pass muster in the Rizts. My wife and I both enjoyed are meal excellent value for money

First time at The Fields since the change from The Poppy Fields. So that's a few years ago. Very impressed . We will certainly come again.

Popped in today to just get a quick drink with a friend . Walked in one girl behind the bar pouring drinks didn't bother to look up and say hello 2 girls titting around with the Christmas tree chatting to themselves looked straight at us no hello . Another lady walked straight past us .I think she was a manager no smile hello nothing the place was empty so they obviously didn't want our money so we left. And if the managers are going to reply to this at least make it genuine

Awful meal. Food ok but limited. Sat next to toilets and they smelt. Asked to be moved but wasn't allowed to so only stayed for 1 course. Must be a issue as a diffuser was next to our table. Terrible experience and not going back

Food was luke warm, when it finally arrived. One of our party ordered turkey roast and the roast potatoes was missing. There was many things unavailable on the menu and when asked if Hunter's chicken was available the waitress said yes, then a senior member came out and said that it's unavailable. The senior member then insinuated that we had upset the waitress? The young waitress was extremely polite and professional under difficult circumstances, set by the kitchen. All the staff in the bar and restaurant were helpful and none of my party of 18 had any negative comments about their ability, the kitchen however was not good. We will not return.

Service was awful and staff avoided being called. Considerable delays in receiving food and drinks.

The entire pub smelt of sewage (the toilets however smelt lovely) whilst we ate which was apparently down to a broken pipe which you are unable to get repaired until after Christmas. The food was lovely but inhaling the stench of human waste whilst eating was horrid.

All the staff were lovely, doing a fantastic job, really friendly. The food was fresh and well cooked/ presented. Bringing our dogs to family gatherings is very important to us, so being dog friendly is amazing. We all had a really nice time, including the kids and our fur babies. Thank you. First time going out for dinner christmas day cost me roughly 450 pound, and was so disappointed, mushroom soup wasn't bad but the roast dinner was stone cold, vegetables where like they hadn't been cooked roast potatoes where like boiled potatoes, 3 of the sides where missing my son had steak and it was rock hard he couldn't eat it, so just ate chips, the dessert wasn't bad however my dad found a lump of plastic which he had to spit out and the waitress just said oh no sorry about that.. we was left waiting for ages and ages for coffee when it come out there was no milk she then took another 15 mins to bring over milk coffee wasn't nice might of been better hot. We tried to make the most of it, but it wasn't a good experience and we come home and cooked some buffet food, didn't want to be a grinch on Xmas day and cause a scene, not sure if there was a staff shortage or what but service was so slow and poor. Sadly I'd never come back hear or anywhere for Xmas dinner really put me off

So friendly and staff even recognised us now love the place and the food is 1st class

Finding it, given it's proximity to main roads was harder than I expected, but definitely worth finding. Lovely food, relaxed service, and great place to meet before Christmas.

Poor performance in all areas sadly, by good to be contacted to see how things could have been better rather than a ' sorry to hear your visit wasn't so good' very easy reply that doesn't address problems at the venue , it basically means we are not bothered

We went hoping we could get a table as we hadn't booked. They fitted us in. Unfortunately, the table was close to the toilets, and the smell was awful. They said there had been a problem all day ,but the air freshener didn't mask the smell. We asked to be moved, which they did, but noticed that other customers coming in later were still sat there. However, the service and food were good.

I usually avoid leaving negative comments, but I think it's important to share my disappointing experience from Christmas Eve. Upon arrival, the atmosphere felt off, and the waitress seemed to avoid making eye contact with us at the front door. While we didn't expect an elaborate greeting, we were greeted with a note on our table listing many items that were out of stock, which accounted for nearly half of the menu. This made it difficult for us to place our orders, especially since the waitress had added to the list of unavailable items. We waited 30 minutes for our food to arrive, but our drinks and starters had still not been served. It felt like the waiter had completely forgotten our order. I understand that busy restaurants can have challenges, but the place was nearly empty. If reservations are accepted for 8 PM, there should certainly be plenty of menu options available. Although the food we eventually received was enjoyable, my dessert also arrived late and appeared to have been forgotten again. When I finally got my brownie sundae, it contained an unexpected fruit candy, suggesting that the same scoop was used for multiple dishes. Ultimately, my family and I left feeling uncomfortable, which was not what we expected for our Christmas Eve celebration. I chose not to address these issues at the time or request a discount, but I will not be returning in the future.

They always have friendly staff working here, food is of good quality, plus it's cheaper than the Thomas Wyatt.

Food was cold and took over an hour to be served Was not impressed

It's a chain restaurant pub, so you know what to expect. There is a reasonable beer and drink range, and the food is not too expensive and to a standard you'd expect. We took outside seating on a very busy Good Friday... perhaps too near to the adjacent A road .... but it was okay. The service was prompt and efficient and yes we'll probably go back. Makes a change from Beefeater and Harvester I suppose but these chains are all a little too alike.

Very welcoming place to go and eat

We have been visiting in a large group booking for several years and it's always great service and food. There were no hiccups and Ruby our waitress couldn't have been more helpful or friendly. I'm sure we will be back again next year.

Great buzzing restaurant and bar. Food fresh and hot without having to wait to long. The restaurant was warm. Staff very friendly 😉.

Booking Xmas meal was excellent with everyone able to order themselves via a link. Lots of reminder communications too. Greeted on arrival and the table was set up nicely. All members of the team were friendly and helpful in what was a very busy afternoon. The food was delicious, especially the Apple & Cherry crumble. 10/10 will go back!

Booked to see Santa with our grandchildren only to be told he wasn’t available at the very last minute. Dreadful service. The children were extremely disappointed.

If I could give it zero stars I would. The food is pretty poor. The last time we ate at The Fields, I had sausage and mash with onion gravy. The sausages were burnt, the mash tasted like it was out of a packet and the onion gravy was non existent. We thought we’d give it another go. This time though there was no food at all, apparently due to a fire alarm. We won’t be going back.

We visited this place two days running whilst staying with friends nearby. Our meals were excellent, particularly the Sunday roast. On both occasions there were errors with our orders, we put this down to inexperience of the waiting staff. They were soon rectified. Only gave four stars due to female staff member, (long dark hair, fringe, glasses wearing a long scarf in her hair) curt on arrival plus whilst she was polishing cutlery, stopped to pet a dog, then continued polishing without washing her hands.

Great food, atmosphere, and service from our waitress Ruby. As a large group we appreciated being tucked away. Always have a good experience at Fields 🙂

The food here was so good, best onion rings we’ve had. The 2 of us had mixed grill and the meat was of good quality. We were all really happy with the quality of the food. The staff were friendly, and the service was quick until it started to get a bit busier and it was apparent the had very few staff as we waited 40 minutes after plates were cleared away to be given the bill, even then we had to go and find someone to ask for it. They did explain that a couple of the staff had called in sick so that does explain it but all we wanted to do was pay. Great addition having a little climbing frame outside too. Would definitely come again.

over cooked, very slow service, no atmosphere

We had been here before, when it was a bit better, this time there was no fish at all, ropey steaks, incredibly slow service. And the place was almost empty Very disappointed.

Always friendly staff and a good atmosphere, did hear someone complain but dealt with so well it was a plus rather than an issue. Food delicious.

Our food was lovely, came nice and hot, mine would have been nice on a warmer plate as it was presented on a wooden board - I’d the chicken kebab, was scrumptious. When I booked online, I asked for the bar area, as it’s cosy there. On your website there’s nowhere to select ordinary chairs rather than high seats. Luckily we were able to move tables when one was available… the atmosphere was lovely as always. Subtle Christmas decorations and gentle music was lovely as were all of your staff.

We waited about 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive, waited over an hour for the food to arrive. There was 9 of us and most of us had issues with the food. Visually all the food was disappointing, the so called creamy mash potato was like a lump of rubber and the veg all dried out. One of the burgers was stone cold and missing some of its stated fillings. Most of the food looked like it had sat under the heat lamp for to long. The food quality was poor at best, and the coleslaw was awful. Our first time here and definitely our last.

Beautifully decorated place, food was delicious and very generous portion size. Service was impeccable. We will definitely come back!

The premises are excellent, all the staff are very polite, helpful, knowledgeable and sociable. The choice of menu is very good, and the food was excellent as were all the staff. George is a real asset to your company. He helped make our dining out more enjoyable.

We have always loved coming to the fields. The aesthetics, friendly atmosphere and food are all lovely. But what really makes the fields so pleasant to return to time again, is the staff. This was especially so this time, Amy our waitress was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Thank you Amy for a wonderful experience at the fields

The staff are always friendly here and they serve you very quickly. What let's this pub down is the high prices and small portions and low quality food.

Booked a table for 2 people for the festive menu. Upon arriving we were told we hadn’t preordered so could not have the festive menu. I’ve since checked the festive menu details again on the website and app and whilst there is a lot about allergens and letting the restaurant deal with the details there is still no mention of having to preorder nor of paying a deposit. I checked my emails, I had one confirming the booking, in the style of an invitation, which when I scroll down there is a paragraph in small type stating I’d be contacted about a preorder. I was never subsequently contacted. Then having taken my booking and having not received the mandated preorder no one from the restaurant staff tried to contact me to ask about a preorder. Pretty poor on your restaurant’s part!.

Very good selection on the menu, very pleasant staff and a good lunch. This time is a revisit as the enjoyed the experience the first time we came last month.

I found the service really good. Friendly staff. As this was my first visit I was impressed. The ability to order found online was really good and the quality was good. I'd be happy to visit again.

A really poor experience. Dined here on Wednesday with 3 others. Both pies were ‘off’ as was the sea bass. Ordered what turned out to be the smallest bowl of awful mushroom soup for a starter, followed by sausages and mash. The sausages were pink and perilous and lacked any flavour. 4 meals arrived but no cutlery, but despite that we were invited to ‘’enjoy our food’. We pointed out we had no cutlery. Service poor and truly awful food. The fish and chips looked somewhat better but the fish was decidedly grey. I suspected it would be a bad experience and it met my expectations (I did not make the booking). I recommend avoiding this disappointing establishment.

Had a lunch in here with my wife and found the food and service to be very good and location with parking and general cleanliness was superb. Will go again soon.

I visited last friday for my Dads birthday, we had a great time, a lovely meal, and the staff were really friendly, a huge thank you to Cheryl who was attentive and instantly made us feel welcome, checked on us throughout our meal and was brilliant with my two children. We will be back!

I had chicken and mushroom pie with mash and veg. Very nice and plenty of vegs with it. My friend had the mixed grill and got loads of meat.

I had asked at time of booking for a reasonably quiet table as we brought my mum with us who has advanced dementia. We wanted her to enjoy her visit but without too much hustle/movement which could have caused her some distress. We were seated in a nice quiet corner, and the staff were all very considerate with us, from arrival right through to leaving. So very grateful for the kindness and consideration during a time of life that is quite difficult for us all. Thank you so so much.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. Came over 3 or 4 times to make sure every thing was alright. The fields has a very nice atmosphere and is very comfortable.

Everything was great. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and really good menu choice.

Update 2024 October Nice friendly staff, good selection of real beers for a modern pub/restaurant . Food was a little expensive for what you got, but was tasty and hot. Start a loyalty card like beefeater, bring down the price of beers and introduce a happy hour and you will see me more often. Razorback £4.95 a pint, nice beer. Update 2023 June Was looking forward to a nice pint of Hobgoblin (£5.60), unfortunately the pint I was served was not drinkable, this was changed with no problem for a pint of Pedigree which was not top notch. There is a large housing development which is beginning to overlook the gardens closest to the round about. Update 2023 March Had a burger which was quite nice. Service was good and staff were friendly, but we felt under pressure to order our food quickly, In my opinion this felt more like pub food which is not a problem, but the price does not reflect this, interesting some conduments where in the original manufacturer containers. See photograph. 2022 Friendly staff, not to busy late afternoon and they sell Directors and Pedigree bitter. Sorry I have had to remove 1 star as the drinks price is excessive for this type of pub/restaurant. Nice gardens but very close to a busy road.

George was brilliant from start to finish. Very attentive. Made things all good even when I did have to have my second choice of dessert. Great Service.

tonight i rate a one, this place has always been hit or miss for years but generally the service has been ok, clearly understaffed, clearly new management suffering, I sit down with my family being told it would be table service, wait 35 minutes with a hungry toddler only to be told no you need to order at the bar, order at the bar for my son, had to clear my own table, the rest of the tables clearly getting table service. confront the new manager only to be told well some tables get service some dont. in the 5 years ive been coming here this is a definite low. for the prices they charge you would get better service at wetherspoons. time to find a new local.

Just good food and service easy parking

Never been before and never again. Table sticky, not properly wiped. Service was impaitent and the food less than average. My wife’s sea bass dish was tasteless and the sirloin steaks ordered by my daughter and myself would have worn well as a shoe sole they were so chewy.

Well worth a visit for a reasonably priced gastro meal.

A dreadful experience! Admittedly the restaurant was very busy but service was so slow! After ordering drinks and food and waiting for half an hour hubby went to the bar to see where the drinks had got to. Only to be told that there was no record of our order being made! He re ordered at the bar and waited for the drinks himself. When eventually our meals arrived we were unimpressed with the presentation, not even a lettuce leaf to add a bit of colour! Steak was chewy and tough and mushrooms were greasy. Told waitress that Steak was inedible and her response was that she'd pass it on to the kitchen. We definitely won't be returning!

Very pleasant lunch, with 10 month old! Menu good, perhaps a bit overpriced, but good selection. Lighter lunch menu could be expanded a little. Our waiter was lovely.

Real shame. Felt sorry for the staff who explained they had had 100 hours of staffing cut next week and had 50% of staff missing today. Waited over an hour for food. Bitter was flat. No real 'service' available - only able to order at the bar. Get your own cutlery and condiments. Another case of the big bucks at the top don't really care about those working for them at the bottom, except it's the staff there that have to face the unhappy customers and take the brunt of the crap. Food was actually good but we won't be back. Hope things improve for the employees (none of which must have been over 21!)

Was really busy. But service was very friendly, and drinks were with us quickly. Food to a little time but not surprised because of how busy it was. But starters and mains were hot and very tasty. Somehow we squeezed desert in too. Can't fault the restaurant. Only thing is if your thinking of going book in advance, as saw a few disappointed people walking away.

Ruby provided excellent service on Friday . The food was great and we were really impressed.
