Fields at Aylesford in Tonbridge and Malling

Came here as a large group for a birthday meal. To start with, the entire restaurant stank of sewage. We was told this was due to them having the toilets and drains sorted out. Secondly, a waitress came over and informed us there’s no cheese starters, no steak, no chicken kebabs, no pie and no fish & chips. Great start as the menu isn’t huge anyway. Then the food came out around 45 min later, which none of us really enjoyed. It was seriously lacking in flavour and quality, very dry and bland. Not surprised they can offer 30% off almost all of the time. The glasses were dirty and fizzy drinks were flat. Then for desserts- no vanilla ice cream. The staff all looked miserable and the atmosphere was miserable. Won’t be returning.

Awful experience, food, staff, premises all below average. Smell of drains was off putting to diners. Poor experience.

Most the food on the menu wasn't available due to a delivery not turning up the day before and we had to wait 40 minutes for our food what was over done completely. It's completely gone down hill since the changed the name of the place.

Food was awful burger wasn't cooked properly and still pink and ordered lamb which pic on website look lovely when got it was 4 small tiny slices veg wasn't cooked properly either. Some staff friendly and others couldn't be bothered to serve you and just rolled their eyes. Wouldn't collect glasses off table also glasses dirty and not washed properly building looked nice from outside shame about the food.

Such a lovely and welcoming restraunt. It was my first time visiting here, I always drive past saying i want to try it and I finally did. I chose to eat from the lunch set menu, presentation was lovely and food was tasty. After eating, we grabbed a drink from the bar and sat outside to enjoy to sunshine 🌞 I'll be back in a few weeks for my partners birthday meal.

Beer and wine glasses very dirty, they don't seem to clean them properly 🤢 When ask for a new one they all the same. They don't seem to be sorting the issue out any time soon.

Unfortunately my visit today we had not pre-booked around 2 to 3pm and it was a 45 min wait to get food so we left hungry and disappointed but I do know there food is nice so I've based my review on my last visit which was recent.

Took a long time for us to be seated then the food took forever to arrive then the food came out and was a small portion

Been coming regularly for a number of years. Used to be lovely, but has been slowly declining and today was enough. Inexperienced waitress took 10 minutes to take our order, initially getting everything we asked for wrong. Drinks then took a further 20 minutes to arrive (after sitting ready at the bar for ~15 minutes). When food arrived, it turned out the waitress had still gotten it wrong, not realising there were two different meat & pie options on the menu. Food was taken back to the kitchen, only for the same plate to return 10 minutes later, now with the right meat but cold everything else. My wife's overcooked burger was a far cry from what used to be served, and was much closer to what you'd expect from a kebab shop

Waited 45 minutes before our order was taken. The food isn’t worth the money. Couldn’t request removal of a veg from the curry as comes ready made. I wouldn’t come back.

Just got home from the fields and I must admit the food was absolutely fantastic and they went above and beyond for us, we felt sorry for the staff as they were rushed of their feet and short staffed but they were fantastic in keeping it all together and not giving up when I know these times can be stressful! But they kept their heads high and kept going with a smile on their faces and that's all that matters. It was appreciated 👍 Thankyou! To all the staff/chefs at the fields.

Amazing food, 5 stars even though they were short staffed and the staff were rushed off their feet, they kept their heads so we didn't mind waiting an hour for starters.

The food was good but the restaurant stank of sewage it was disappointing as it was my daughters 17th birthday meal made us feel quite I’ll and not sure if we would revisit again shame as we go there quite often 👎

My Partner and I met on a first date 2nd March 2024 and spent 4 hours over lunch, spectacular we are both in our 80's and have been alone for many years, so I arranged the same table 1 year later Sun 2nd March 2025, the atmosphere was electric and the food and service was second to none, thanks to all the staff particularly Lovely Cassandra who played photographer for us, bless you young lady. We will be back again several times.

All great except cleanliness. As with every visit tables left with dirty plates and glasses for considerable periods. Staff serve food and just walk past dirty plates so easy to resolve. In an area known for a fly problem( hence nets on windows) this could be a real issue in the summer.

We came today and arrived a little early and was told our table wasn’t ready yet, as it was very busy, which was fine by us but within 5 minutes of being there we was told they had made a table ready for us which was great as we had 2 hungry kids. Our waitress who served us was called Cassie, she was extremely nice, took our order efficiently (we are fussy eaters) and she seemed very organised. Our food arrived hot and fresh and was absolutely amazing. Cassie came over and asked if everything was ok wi to our meal and asked if we needed more drinks. We ordered dessert which was also fantastic. I would recommend the fields to everyone. The roast dinners are amazing

We stumbled across the pub/restaurant on lunch time Thursday, we really enjoyed our food and our time there. Our waiter, Mark, was so lovely and nothing was too much trouble for him, he was so polite and was also lovely to our little girl.

Consistently poorly managed. They seem unable to send food to your table with any resemblance of haste. Terribly slow service. After waiting 15mins to be served yesterday we were refused bar food because they couldn’t properly manage the waiting diners in the restaurant. We wont return.

Food presentation was nice, scampi dish could have done a few more in the dish. Nice setting, the only thing that was off putting the dining experience was the constant drain/sewage smell which i think came from where we sat which was next to the toilets. I think there must be some gaps in the floorboards or skirting boards with sewage exposed as the smell kind of put us off the food abit. It would be good if they sort out their drainage smell leaking from the toilet problem. Otherwise the place was decent and price was good too.

Visited when it was the poppy fields was not up to scratch, now reinvented The fields is a lovely restaurant there was a nice ambiance, it was very busy but our server Jack bent over backwards to make us feel at home and appreciated. Our food came to the table hot and tasty, we had no complaints and will definitely return

Honestly not great at all when we turned up at 12:30 we was sat at our table which we wasn’t happy with because of the strong smell of sewage so we asked to be moved as we didn’t feel it was acceptable to eat when the smell of Pooh was lingering around. The table next to us also felt the same and asked to be moved. They said they would look for a new table so we waited, they was aware or the issue. In my eyes they should have the corner taped off not acceptable for people to use. Going forward they said they could only seat us in the bar area and that we couldn’t have waitress service because of it, they had plenty of tables spare in the restaurant so they could have sat us there and moved others around before they arrived. ! It was a birthday meal for my mum and it was ruined right from the beginning! We then had no choice but to move to the bar where we was told we had to pay as we go not have a tab also awful as we wasn’t booked for the bar yet again a let down. We the ordered drinks which we had to change as they had ran out of lime cordial we ordered food which when came out was not as described on the menu and food had been left off that was supposed to be on the plate we had to ask for the correct things! And lastly we ordered some puddings and as expected something come out wrong! Overall we spent £180 and it was awful the whole experience and my mums birthday meal ruined! Chances of a return are minimal the staff were rude and didn’t apologise for any of it, the poor girl at the bar ended up with the brunt of it overall experience was terrible

Had a nice dinner there yesterday, it's not the cheapest place to eat but the food was nice.

Have been here a couple of times, the first time food was lovely. Visited again today and it was quite frankly a bit of a disaster. We went early afternoon and one of the starters was already unavailable, which was disappointing. Mains arrived and they where disappointing, ordered the trio of roast, meats where cooked well, roast potatoes where cold and dry, Brussels where not prepared properly, Yorkshire pudding was dry as which the lacking gravy didn't help with, honestly felt like the kitchen couldn't be bothered, and season veg is a bit of a cop out to provide you with the cheap stuff, no broccoli but two types of peas, all of the roasts were also missing the crackling. Another guest ordered the pie and steak and it arrived missing the vegetables, and the portion size was tiny considering the price. Another guest had steak and was the "triple cooked chunky chips" barley looked like they had been cooked in the fryer l. Then came the desserts, and the chocolate brownie sundae had no brownie in it and the. I ordered a vanilla latte which I could not taste the vanilla, the waitress did bring the bottle over and said stop when it's enough, It still could have done with more. All on all waiting staff where friendly and helpful, however the experience was let down by the kitchen, and it has put us off from wanting to return sadly.

Service was average and similar to the last time we visited. Starter took a while to come out, even though the restaurant was not busy. The starter of garlic mushrooms was tasty, but was missing the crispy bacon. The mains, my pie seemed as if it was sitting on the passing for a very long time, the pie crust was very tough. My partner ordered the halloumi skewer. This had a burnt piece (1 of only 4) of halloumi. When brought to the waitresses attention, she took it back to the kitchen and did not seem to know how to offer an apology. The dish was also missing any hot honey dresing and had no courgette on the skewer. Again when brought to the servers attention, didn't know how to respond with no mention of maybe taking off a drink as way of an apology. When spoke with what I a assume is the bar manager (?) he did apologise and said it was the kitchens first night with new menu. Not excusing the experience we had just had, and again, not offering anything by way of apology. Definitely not an experience we will be repeating. This is a shame as the last time we visited, we really enjoyed the food.

Lovely pub, staff are friendly and it's a great atmosphere with good service. The quiz is also excellent on certain Tuesdays. Jack from the bar is always helpful and accommodating.

The fields has a lovely atmosphere, the food is great and the staff are lovely. We were served by lily today who was so helpful and friendly. Would highly recommend.

Amazing customer service from Sheryl Above and beyond Nothing too much trouble She works under pressure and limited help within the bar area (Sunday 26th Jan) but still smiled and remained professional

We arrived at 1pm for our lunch booking for 2 people, to be seated a few minutes later. Our drinks order was taken about 15 minutes later but tooling about 25 minutes to be brought to the table. We both only ordered a main meal, which took almost an hour to arrive. When the food was received the coleslaw had no mayonnaise, whilst the macaroni cheese and bread that came with it were dried out. Upon speaking to the waitress a replacement meal was offered which we did not have time to wait for due to the delay in receiving our meals, no apology or discount were offered. We have happily eaten at this restaurant multiple times without any issues, unfortunately this experience has spoiled our opinion of this restaurant.

Absolutely appalling, booked a table for yesterday, 1st of Feb for 7.30pm 4 hours prior to the arrival time on their website. Arrive there after a 15mile drive from home to be told they had no booking for me, despite having 2 conformations (one text, one email) to then tell me they had cancelled it (one hour prior to arrival they said) but nothing my end to say so, and even if there was, why cancel it 1 hour prior when i booked it 4 hours beforehand. Woman at the front desk was frankly appalling, did not remotely care and very rude. I would NOT recommend this place.

I never complain and this is just a heads up as my wife and I love the pub. I had to wait at an empty bar for around 10 minutes and nearly did a U turn when somebody finally appeared. May I suggest that a general communication is given to staff (so I don't have to point the finger at THE person) that a friendly face and smile would serve well. Ordering drinks was a bit uncomfortable but hey, we're all human and they may have had a bad day. Ordering a second round of drinks was the same, in terms of waiting, and it was only because a customer (a local I'm guessing) shouted into the back of a room that there was a customer waiting. Somebody ( same person) appeared. I was grateful that he'd seen my predicament and so bought him a drink. We WILL be back and I encourage everyone else to visit as it really is a lovely pub. I only offer this review as a positive learning point as in my line of work, we believe in second chances. That's an opportunity to turn things around. With respect.

Sadly, the fields wasn't a good experience. Short staffed, long wait at bar and for food. Food was poor. Such a shame, nice venue and in a prime position on the 20/20 roundabout. Felt sorry for the staff, people complaining and working hard - but people want good food and service, but sadly, this was lacking. The new manager Danielle can hopefully turn it around for the better - I hope so!

Had mac & cheese, it was very dry and the garlic bread only had any butter on the top the rest was like eating a dry roll.

The carvery was an unpleasant experience. We have had carveries here before but none like this. The trio of meats were very dry, there were no roast potatoes just jacket potatoes. The cheesy cauliflower was microwavedand bland. The Yorkshire pudding which was extremely dry had no gravy, there was no horseradish sauce. The vegetables were bland, the potatoes and the meat were bland. Poor meal, waiting time incredibly long at the bar area where we order the food/drinks from. Always been a problem here. Wouldn’t dare try and get a second drink.

Food portions small,no sauce on prawn cocktail,garlic bread hard& tasteless,service slow & unattentive,bill payment ended up going to bar to pay as no staff around after waiting 30 mins,all in a very dissapointing visit.

I keep trying and this place just doesn’t get any better, average food, no atmosphere and service isn’t the best.

Only dined in the bar area. Nice atmosphere, with good vegan options. Service is a little slow but I prefer the relaxed pace compared to feeling rushed.

Too busy when we went to give a proper review.

We had a very pleasant sunday lunch here. The waitress that served us was very friendly and was more than happy to ammend the menu for me. I asked for sausages instead of meat on my roast dinner and she managed to Ok it with the chef. Very happy about that! The food was good quality and the portion sizes were very generous. If I had to be critical, I'd say that food could have been hotter, and the stuffing balls were a bit dissapointing, but these are small niggles. They only serve Pepsi out of a squirt gun which is always a no-no in my book. Its usually flat by the time you get it.

Firstly the service was excellent so I have no issues on that front However as an experience goes it wasnt great Toilets also smelt bad as well We were seated in the bar area as the restaurant seemed to be closed down for the night even though that is what we requested . There was a quiz night on which I totally get you need to make money .However it was so loud and the microphone so distorted we could hardly speak to each other . Also nobody enjoyed the desserts and we all picked different ones What is going on there They all tasted diary free well actually they didn't taste at all (my daughters words not mine as she is the expert in this area) So a post Christmas meal that I paid for for my family and both sets of parents was disappointing .However the place is lovely ,the staff were great and efficient and I can see massive potential for a great experience should we visit again

First time at The Fields since the change from The Poppy Fields. So that's a few years ago. Very impressed . We will certainly come again.

Popped in today to just get a quick drink with a friend . Walked in one girl behind the bar pouring drinks didn't bother to look up and say hello 2 girls titting around with the Christmas tree chatting to themselves looked straight at us no hello . Another lady walked straight past us .I think she was a manager no smile hello nothing the place was empty so they obviously didn't want our money so we left. And if the managers are going to reply to this at least make it genuine

Awful meal. Food ok but limited. Sat next to toilets and they smelt. Asked to be moved but wasn't allowed to so only stayed for 1 course. Must be a issue as a diffuser was next to our table. Terrible experience and not going back

Food was luke warm, when it finally arrived. One of our party ordered turkey roast and the roast potatoes was missing. There was many things unavailable on the menu and when asked if Hunter's chicken was available the waitress said yes, then a senior member came out and said that it's unavailable. The senior member then insinuated that we had upset the waitress? The young waitress was extremely polite and professional under difficult circumstances, set by the kitchen. All the staff in the bar and restaurant were helpful and none of my party of 18 had any negative comments about their ability, the kitchen however was not good. We will not return.

The entire pub smelt of sewage (the toilets however smelt lovely) whilst we ate which was apparently down to a broken pipe which you are unable to get repaired until after Christmas. The food was lovely but inhaling the stench of human waste whilst eating was horrid.

All the staff were lovely, doing a fantastic job, really friendly. The food was fresh and well cooked/ presented. Bringing our dogs to family gatherings is very important to us, so being dog friendly is amazing. We all had a really nice time, including the kids and our fur babies. Thank you. So friendly and staff even recognised us now love the place and the food is 1st class

First time going out for dinner christmas day cost me roughly 450 pound, and was so disappointed, mushroom soup wasn't bad but the roast dinner was stone cold, vegetables where like they hadn't been cooked roast potatoes where like boiled potatoes, 3 of the sides where missing my son had steak and it was rock hard he couldn't eat it, so just ate chips, the dessert wasn't bad however my dad found a lump of plastic which he had to spit out and the waitress just said oh no sorry about that.. we was left waiting for ages and ages for coffee when it come out there was no milk she then took another 15 mins to bring over milk coffee wasn't nice might of been better hot. We tried to make the most of it, but it wasn't a good experience and we come home and cooked some buffet food, didn't want to be a grinch on Xmas day and cause a scene, not sure if there was a staff shortage or what but service was so slow and poor. Sadly I'd never come back hear or anywhere for Xmas dinner really put me off
