Fiddleford Inn in North Dorset

We booked late one night to stay as we were collecting a vehicle near hotel ,we had a great reception and we were looked after like family . We were grateful for accommodating us at short notice ,we will return and were very happy to have been looked after by Barry and team ,thank you Barry , service, accommodation and breakfast was 5star and Daisy our special Bullydog.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Friendly staff, quick service, simple un fussy, but yummy hot food. Good choice on the standard menu plus great specials. Catered for friend who is Coeliac with no problems. I'll be going again.

Great pub. Fabulous food, friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area. Lovely walks in all directions from the pub, particularly on the railway and Piddle Wood.

After being let down by agoda, fiddleford inn had a spare room and took us in for the night and what a lucky find it was! Fabulous hospitality, great food and a huge comfortable room. Nice area out in the countryside. A real gem!

We had a delightful stay at The Fiddleford Inn. We'd had lunch there before, passing through the area. We were so impressed with staff/restaurant that we chose to stay there 2 nights as a Dorset break. Our room was up to 4⭐️ standard. Barrie, Landlord cooked us a great breakfast, his hospitality was exceptional. Would definitely recommend this Inn.

The highlight was the fabulously comfortable beds and bedrooms. Lovely freshly prepared breakfast along with fruit, yoghurt and cereals cooked and served by Llze and Barrie made us feel special. We stayed as an adult family group while attending a wedding nearby. The care and attention Llze and Barry took to make sure we were happy was appreciated. They were very busy over the weekend and although we asked for the missing plug adapter for the coffee machine to be replaced, it got forgotten. Llze was soo apologetic, I felt sorry for her! Such is human nature and the demands of a busy pub/restaurant.😳😀👏

Really do not use the ketchup, it actually exploded over my white top and head, hair and face - I was told I wasn’t the first person this has happened to. Clearly one of their members of staff is messing with the bottles as the liquid that exploded was more orange than ketchup and it was fizzy. This sounds like a joke but really steer clear of this pub. Quite a few members of staff came to have a look and even the chef came out too. I did not create a fuss, as I am no Karen and reading this it does sound hilarious. Except popping out with my family and ending up looking an idiot wasn’t on the menu. They did take the drinks off the bill as an apology (wow 3 diet cokes and a shandy!!). Why can’t they just use sachets for the condiments instead? It’s not really rocket science. Before that the service was slow and it had the ambience of a great auntie’s wake being held in a 70s throwback carpet filled nightmare

My friend and I met up here to have lunch, I was looking forward to going as I had never been but my friend had and said the food wasn't anything special but putting that aside I decided I wanted to see for myself if things may have changed since my friend last came. The waitresses were very attentive and we were shown our table which I had already booked in advance. Our drinks were brought to us in timely fashion and our order was taken, my friend ordered Crab Cakes and a pot of tea and I ordered a pint of Abbot Ale and Beef Lasagne. Our food arrived in a reasonable time frame and we began to eat our lunch, all was well until I had just about finished my lasagne when I found a pube like hair at the bottom of the dish, I notified the waitress and she agreed it was human hair, feeling embarrassed at this discovery she asked what I'd like done about it, I asked her what the pubs policy is for instances like this, she went away and spoke to a senior waitress after coming back she said 'we'll knock the pot of tea of your bill'. Slightly bemused I waited for the bill to arrive and I had been charged for the contaminated lasagne! shocked at this I told the senior waitress that I didn't think I should be paying for it as it contained a human hair! Enter the manager, 'have you got a photograph of this hair then?', well no! "where's your plate" grunted the manager, "its in the kitchen" replied the junior waitress! " How do you know its a human hair"(manager) "because it looked like a pube"(me), "are you suggesting my chef cooks in the nude?"(manager), "now your just being silly"(me). By this time the customers that were in the pub and some were eating had over heard this exchange and decided to take the Lasagne of the bill....and rightly so! Unfortunately I have no photo's of the offending human hair, but the waitress verified in front of the manager that there was one! We were absolutely flabbergasted that this "manager" would stand in his bar arguing with customers about their short comings! I can now understand my friends original point of view.

Barrie and Ilze could not have done more to improve the experience!! We stayed for 1 night but wish we’d stayed longer. All 4 of the rooms are spacious and include tea and coffee making facilities. Bottled water is provided and all rooms come with en suite facilities that include both bath and shower. An ample supply of towels is provided. We shall definitely return later in the year.

We spent our friend's birthday weekend here, and had a marvellous time. Rooms beautifully appointed and comfortable, food excellent. Hosts Barry and llse couldn't do enough for us. Even ran members of our party back to Sturminster Newton both nights. We left feeling we were leaving friends behind. Thank you to all staff for making it such a lovely occasion. Hope to see you in the summer.

Wow! I wish this was my local! We were staying locally and booked in advance advising that two of our six had physical disabilities. From the start we were made so welcome. Ramps were there for a wheelchair and our table was well lit for our friend with limited sight. The menu was as stated on the website and the specials were excellent - we tried the sea bass and the individual chicken pies. Our prawn cocktails were lovely and the local trout pate was delicious. The fish and chips and the Mediterranean tart went down well. We also gave a big thumbs up to the bread and really nicely cooked chips and veg. The portions were generous and we didn’t have room for anything other than icecream. A big thank you to Barry and his team. We will certainly return again when in this area.

Just back from a lovely Lunch at The Fiddleford Inn. Staff were on top form and also a lovely welcome from the landlord Barrie and landlady Ilze. I have not been for a while but was nice to be recognised. Sunday roasts were impeccably put together and tasted delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and all staff for attentive but not OTT. Relaxed, genuine and happy. It really was a lovely way to spend celebrating family birthdays. Thank you to all the staff for a top notch meal and hospitality. 10/10!!

This is definitely a 'local' pub with a friendly and witty management. All have sense of humour. There is a choice of 7 main special courses and that was on a Tuesday. There is a log fire which heats the front and rear parts of the pub. My beef bourgeon was not well cooked and lots of gristle. I should have sent it back but it was edible so I soldered through. Three main courses, three sweet courses a coffee and a bottle of wine came to £89 I would revisit. There were a number of local characters in the bar area making jokes at eah other's expense. That was entertaining.

Excellent quick lunch, proper door step sandwiches !!... Lovely to see the pub so busy on a Monday lunchtime with both drinkers and diners🙂

Really fancied a roast after a busy morning and I'm so glad we called in here reasonably priced and the roast potatoes were some of the best I've had for a long time the lamb and other veg were delicious as well

We went in the garden for our lunch. There was a busy /noisy road running alongside. Fabulous chips with tuna / mayo sandwich. The bread seemed a bit stale around the edges (or dry) which was a shame as the rest of it was nice. Waitress bought out the food and then suggested we could go inside the pub to pick up whatever sauces we wanted. I personally thought she should have asked us what we wanted and brought it out for us. Bit lazy. Don't think we'd go back if we were in the area as no excuse for the bread

Spontaneous lunch time visit for my husband and I. Lovely warm welcome, sandwiches freshly made to order with good quality ingredients and nice service. They are a busy pub which is a great sign, if you have to wait a wee while, it is so worth it! Good pubs deserve patience, they do the very best that they can! We loved it.

The welcome and service could not have been more friendly. The menu was interesting and appealing, with plenty of things I wanted to eat. Starters (salt and pepper squid for me and scallops with black pudding and pea purée for my wife) were exceptional. For main I had chicken kebab with slaw, chips and salad, which was superb. My side order of onion rings was disappointingly oily. My wife’s beetroot and goat cheese salad was unfortunately not a success. Wine was delicious and it was all very reasonably priced. We will certainly be going back.

I met a friend for lunch on Thursday 7th September, it was a warm, sunny day so we ate in the garden. We ordered a round of sandwichs each but were told these would take at least half an hour. By the time they eventually arrived up it was nearer 35 minutes. The sandwiches themselves were quite good but having to wait that long is wholly unacceptable. Therefore my advice to those heading towards The Fiddleford Inn for lunch, is to allow plenty of time as service is at best unhurried.

If i cold give 10 stars I would. 8 of us there for 2 nights - funeral nearby sadly . Barry, wife and team were amazing ! Nothing too much trouble . Rooms perfect . Breakfast was all you could want and they accommodated 10 of us both nights with great food and no fuss. 100% recommend this place Thank you

We understand that the regular chef had not turned up and that the owner prepared our meals.As a consequence we had quite a long wait for the soup and steaks.However the end result for both dishes was very satisfactory. The ambiance was pleasant and the staff were very friendly .

Really lovely place to stay staff where so welcoming and helpful, they made sure we had everything we needed stayed over for 2 nights to go to a wedding with the family. We had a breakfast (included each morning) which was amazing toast and cereal to start with and then a cooked English breakfast which was ordered to our liking. rooms where super clean and the beds where so comfy. We had a lady called Louise looking after us she was so kind and helpful such a lovely atmosphere would highly recommend.

Stopped by chance at the Fiddleford in on the way back from Stourhead to Bournemouth for a spot of lunch. Glad we did, had a lovely Sunday lunch. Staff were excellent, friendly and very accommodating. Lovely food, five different fresh veg, choice of three meats lashings of lovely gravy. Then to top it off had a lemon and lime posset - divine! Thanks to all.

While exploring the area, we stumbled across this lovely pub and enjoyed a tasty meal in comfortable surroundings. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and it was an extra treat to be able to bring our dogs in while we ate. Local eggs were on sale at the bar too. We'll definitely be visiting again before the end of our holiday.

Popped in for lunch with our little dog today. We’d had a bad experience a couple of years ago so had been avoiding this place. However after being told it was under new management and recommended by a few friends decided to give it another try. So glad we did. Food was absolutely excellent, but of a wait but that means freshly prepared so more than happy to sit and enjoy a drink. Have to say the service was outstanding nothing too much trouble and a very hard working young lady who was so polite and nothing was too much trouble. Would thoroughly recommend. We will be back.

We stayed at the Fiddleford Inn on a Saturday 17th October night with our two friends, very dog friendly which was great for us as we brought our little jack russell. Lovely rooms, fantastic sunday breakfast. The food was really great and we couldn't be made to feel more welcome. We felt really self and levels of cleanliness were brilliant.

Stayed nearby and stopped in here both days for food and a few beers. The pub is absolutely lovely, the staff are amazing and the food is spot on. Well worth a visit.

I'd had a pint in the inn a few weeks ago & decided to return with my girlfriend. We had a 3 night stay in a great B&B breakfast was good ..The room (Rhubard) was superb . The hosts & staff were great .Hard to fault this place .

Food was amazing, decent portions That were well cooked, tasty and served piping hot. Staff were very friendly and attentive and couldn’t do enough for you. Food was served within 15 minutes despite pub being quite busy. Definitely recommend this eatery for food and staff. Gel available to use and tables spaced out.

After a bit of a drive up from the coast we were delighted when we saw just how nice this place is and the welcome we received was lovely. Our room was clean and had a massive bed which was really, really comfortable. The bar area had lovely leather sofa and it was so peaceful being able to sit and read the paper. We had already eaten down in Wareham but fancied a pudding - well actually I fancied all of them and ended up with Bread and Butter pudding and custard. Landlord and Landlady were lovely people, nothing was to much trouble and we will definitely be back soon. There's a lovely circular walk to Fiddleford Mill and Manor which we strongly recommend. Breakfast was an expected - full and wonderful.

We loved this place. Friendly staff who took us as a party of 6 with no problem in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. It was quiet and obviously a local's pub but we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. Service was efficient in a casual, non fussy way. The menu was traditional pub food and the portions were extremely generous. We each had a different meal but everyone thought their food was delicious. With a few drinks round the table we were pleased with the bill too at just over £120 as mains were pegged around £12.95 rather than the £14/16 most pubs would charge for a lot less food on the plate. We heartily recommend if you are looking for a relaxed place when you are hungry. Oh and the toilets were beautifully clean too!

Highly recommend the Fiddleford Inn. We’ve eaten here a few times and drank a few times more! Barrie and Ilze are fantastic and always welcoming and accommodating! The reason we keep coming back for more! Special mention to Jack who is awesome!!! Chefs provide delicious home cooked, classic pub meals and we never go home with space in our tummy’s! You will not be disappointed - a must when in the area!!!

Not been here for 2 years. Previous experience very poor.Met the new owners today who were very welcoming and lovely. My daughter and my dog Koo were spoiled rotten. Me too. We had great food with a steak cooked to perfection to my liking and a burger which was exceptional with all the bells and whistles.Thank you for a lovely time. We'll be back for more very soon Can't recommend highly enough.

Passing through, we saw a pretty looking Inn and pulled into the good sized carpark. We were lucky as one unreserved table was vacant. We were made very welcome indeed....a wheelchair ramp was swiftly put in place.The menu was comprehensive and your choice could be changed to suit. Nothing was too much trouble. The Chef even came out to double check. The food was plentiful, delicious and served on hot plates - always a bonus. The restaurant quickly filled and all the tables were taken - always a good sign. Great atmosphere. Will definitely return.

I sometimes think we have different tastes to the rest of the world... The majority of reviews for food here are very complementary. We found the menu and the food as bland as the decor in the dining room. Undoubtedly it is a popular pub with locals and dog walkers. And the staff are very friendly. Simply put: it is a village pub, with a ‘retro’ pub menu. Gastro pub it ain’t. I had an idea that someone who had run another gastro pub locally had moved here with their food and menu. It seems they have already moved on... if only we’d known!

Decided to visit here on a spontaneous whim for a bite to eat with my wife after work. Excellent menu choices and pleasant welcoming, warm bar area. The burgers are massive and well worth the money. My wife had a chilli jacket potato which she said was delicious. We would both definitely visit again

Over the last 10 years or,so the Fiddleford has changed hands a number,of times and the current owners really know what they're doing. Large portions, tasty food and very friendly and helpful staff. We came as a group of 16 and they dealt with us superbly despite the pub being full of other large parties just before Christmas. We will be back!

There was nothing wrong with the food, I have to say. It's reasonably priced for the quality. But I am here to review the accommodation, which is second to none. The new landlords, Barrie and the lovely Ilsa, are putting heart and soul into this Inn and it shows. The bedrooms are absolutely immaculate, the bed super comfy, the location amazing, the parking excellent...the breakfast right at the top of the heap.It's a lovely pub, too. I'm itching to get back and enjoy this place again, not least for the fishing just down the road.

Staff pleasant but food average. Starter was served in two portions because of a problem in the kitchen. Fish and Chips were soggy with fish on a pile of peas. A shame as I think the new owner/manager is making an effort.

I had a cheese sandwich. A very very nice cheese sandwich I can honestly say it was the best pub sandwich I’ve EVER had. Thick tasty cheddar NOT GRATED ( which I hate). The brown bread was super fresh and tasty enough to eat on its own. Side salad was fresh.

Booked last minute for dinner on Saturday night. Really friendly staff, and fantastic food, we would definitely recommend.

After seeing the great reviews for food, we decided to book a table for four at the Fiddleford Inn. The pub and it's staff were warm and welcoming. Although we each chose different things from the menu, when the food was served it was piping hot and all came out at the same time. My Hunters Chicken was perfectly cooked as was the ham, egg & chips, coconut battered cod and the gammon steak. We didn't have much room left for desert but the Apple & Blackberry crumble & salted caramel cheese cake were too good too miss. I would highly recommend this lovely pub as a great place to eat. We will definitely be going back!

10 of us celebrated an 18th birthday, we booked for 7pm and we were all eating by 7.20pm.very pleasant staff, landlord was very welcoming and even bought our 18th daughter a drink.

Faultless at the Fiddleford .... just absolutely fantastic ... great menu, great food, great staff, great landlords ... and the real locals where great entertainment with a great atmosphere!! Looking forward to the return visit!!! Well done all.....
