Arrived for drinks one Saturday afternoon. We are not from this area. I assume it was the landlord that was serving. The pub was busy but not packed. Two ladies who arrived at the same time as me got served first, I didn’t mind. Next a gent who clearly arrived after me got served, again I put up with this. Then a local walked in. The landlord called him by his name, started pulling his pint before his toes had touched the bar. At this point we left and took our custom elsewhere. Quite simply unacceptable and the worst welcome that we have ever had.

Olde worlde atmospheric and obviously popular pub, welcoming and attentive staff, the menu was basically pub food, with limited choice, however, apparently the chef had recently changed, so choice may improve. Although the food ordered was unadventourous it was well prepared and tasty.

We were staying near by at Cawood Park and looked for somewhere to take our dogs. I had found the Ferry Inn online and phoned up to boo a table, we where reserved a table in the back room. On arrival we were taken to our table and ordered our food. The food was fantastic and so was the service, the staff checked up on us a number of times to make sure we where okay. The food and drinks were really reasonable and I would defiantly return. I great friendly village pub with great food!

Having used this place for over 12 years for a drink or food whilst out walking with our dog. A recent visit and a change is staff resulted in possibly the worst customer service I've experienced. The quality and ability of the people you employ reflect in the profitability and success of your business. No wonder the owners of this excellent building are desperate to remove this landlord and his team. One fantastic employee a young guy with a foot brace on. Perhaps he should champion the CS training. Avoid !!

We had dinner at the Ferry Inn because it was in a walking distance from where we were staying in Cawood. It's a beautiful very traditional pub. Lovely atmosphere and nice ales. Waitresses could smile a bit more though. My husband's burger and my daughter's chicken were fab but both my starter and main were extra spicy. I like spicy food but I didn't think the prawns or the seafood risotto had the right spicy flavour. I think the chef was a bit extra generous with chilli and pepper. Portions are amazing. You get loads of food. Would recommend anyways and would visit again for sure...

As a frequent visitor to the Ferry Inn at Cawood, i can honestly say it is the best pub in Yorkshire; consistently good food, consistently great atmosphere and amazing staff. It's a shame people don't address one off issues with the management discreetly in order to get a resolve as opposed to broadcasting to the Internet what a bad pub it is, this simply is not true.

Have just returned from The Ferry. We had heard good things about it and were keen to try it out. I ordered lamb which arrived as a solid lump of fat with the odd bit of meat attached. Even the bits that i managed to saw off were chewy so the waitress brought some beef which was ok. The Yorkshire puddings were huge but inedible. They had either been kept warm for hours or reheated and they were solid as well as totally burned. I know that it was late in the shift but really that is no excuse for serving rubbish. I did tell the member of staff when she cleared the table who muttered an apology and ran off as fast as she could! My husband was the only one us that didn't send back an almost full plate but he had been sensible and ordered pie!Really disappointing. Sorry, won't be back.

Myself my partner and our little boy 3yrs. Went in for a meal and unfortunately we had a bad experience. I've had Sunday roast at this pub before and that was beautiful so not sure what happened today. The service to begin with one girl initially who served us she was lovely an really helpful the second was world's apart! I was told the pie of the day was steak an ale when I went back to order it.. I was told there was no pie today!? We ordered chicken an chorizo pasta for each of us and sausage an mash for 3yr old when it came I had a taste as I cooled it for him.. the sausage was OK but the mash was smash and the vegetables contained spoon full of peas and courgette? He wouldn't eat it and he's not a fussy eater. The pasta we had wasn't what we ordered it was linguine with a chilli kick and under cooked chicken, no chorizo and no olives as stated by the barmaid by this point we had given up.We complained we were offered an alternative but by that time 3yrd old was tired and we was told there would be a long wait as there were lots of other diners so we asked for our money back. Gutted really as it's a great pub with a great location an very cosy inside.I doubt we will rush back there.. maybe it's a staffing issue that needs looking at.

Turned up for lunch on a Saturday, having seen the pub from the road. Its a really genuine old English pub, rough plaster and pictures of ships and all that, and when we visited there were even candles on the table making the place even cosier. Must be great when the log burner is lit. Of course if you like an immaculately presented chain pub with matching everything you might not appreciate this place.I went for their speciality burger which is on a lot of the visitor photos - wow. Filling is not the word, and everything tasted home made. They were out of fish cakes on the day we visited, but the fish pie was a good substitute.Only snag not much parking, so leave the car at home and try some of the ales......

Visited for the second time on a very busy Saturday night! Luckily we booked or we may have not got a table. Food was just as good as it was the last time we visited. The Ferry burger was amazing and came with chips and a beautiful salad. The steak stroganoff was full of flavour and even though the portion was huge I wish there was more it was that nice!! Mopped up with chips AND rice!! Nice to get the option of both. Best fish pie my mother in law has ever tasted. Little wait for the table but wouldn't expect anything less in such a small busy village pub. Staff on bar very friendly and welcoming, waitress was very polite and patient with my husband who couldn't decide what he wanted as everything sounded delicious! 10/10 once again.

Starters not presented very well. No butter or cranberry jelly for the camenbert. The Crayfish was presented in a tiny bowl on a huge wooden board. Looked like a pea on a drum! No Avocado in the salad as advertised. It was a tiny portion as it was! Mains. Presented better however no fresh bread given with the mussels as advertised, and the slaw fizzed on the tongue. Asked the waitress re the bread not long onto the meal. She said she'd "ask" the chef? Clearly states on the menu with fresh bread. £83 for 2 starters 4 mains and drinks. Expected better tbh.

Called in on spec whilst passing through the village. The pub is pleasant and the staff and locals were friendly. There was a nice seating area outside - the pub itself would easily merit a 4 or 5HoweverThe beer was poor. I had a pint of Leeds Pale which was just drinkable because it was a little cloudy and had an aftertaste which the brewer didn't have in mind. I then swapped to a Timothy Taylor Landlord. This is usually a good pint. But not on this occasion. It was cloudy and once again had a bad after taste. I think the landlord needs to clean his lines. My wife's lager was fine. The beer was a 1 or 2 and the pub was a 4 or 5 so I have balanced it out at a 3 which seems fair

Called in early doors, and the place was packed which I assumed were post race goers but turned out to be a wedding party. Some Young staff members exceptional, very friendly and helpful, (although the very youngest needs a hell of a lot of training on explaining food items, "It's like a dollop of this stuff and then a bit of a swirl, if you look on the web page you see a picture" was the answer when enquiring about the rack of lamb)The food was fine, perfect pate to bread ratio, although too much chutney, wife's Camembert was a little too much ended doggy bagging. The mains were very good, except no potatoes with the roast beef, I'm guessing that it was a "special" because this was the wedding's main course and of course you'd use it up, but no spuds???."Its supposed to be a light meal" was the answer, Honestly the beef was lovely the Yorkie's excellent the gravy sublime but lost with out some roasties!.On whole the staff made it and will probably return but will take some maris pipers with me, just in case.

Myself and my girlfriend often take a drive around our local area to find nice, cosy pubs, full of character and great food, but this place really does sit at the top!.I was amazed when I walked in at how busy the pub was on a Thursday night, but i quickly found out why. We were met with a very big smile from the barmaid (something very rare sometimes) and asked if we would be eating, after putting our drinks on the bill we chose a table and started reading the extensive menu. For such a smallish pub in a relatively small village the menu definitely packs a punch. We were advised to look over the specials board, and im glad I did. Im a fish lover, and chose the fish platter. Massive is not the word!!. It came, beautifully presented, as did my girlfriend's dish, and had just enough to fill a hungry Geordie.I cannot recommend this place more, either for a special weekend evening meal, or for a treat tea. Came to Cawood to walk in the footsteps of ancestors and just like they may well have done, called in at the Ferry. We received a warm welcome and sat in the atmospheric dining area for a very nice lunch - although I'll have to modify my praise as my veggie husband struggled to find anything very tempting from the main menu and settled for a sandwich & side salad with (very good) chips, which he enjoyed. My smoked haddock risotto was a bit different from standard pub fare and at under £25 for 2 meals with a drink each, not bad value. The whole place could do with a bit of "tlc", but it's not short on character and the position next to the river is lovely. The staff were friendly and efficient and we'd certainly eat here again.

Had a nice meal with friends here on Saturday. Food service was busy so its obviously well respected locally. We all wanted burgers but they only had two left so we took these and a couple of steak and ale pies. The burgers were outstanding fantastic home made chips, the burger meat crumbled and was'nt too densely packed and home made onion rings were gorgeous. The steak and ale pie was not my favourite in all honesty. I felt the pastry lacked flavour and was a little overworked. The pie filling was plentiful but warm rather than hot and the peas came in a bowl filled with water? A little odd as attention to detail with everything else was spot on including a generous portion of scampi we chose as a starter, tip top and could not be faulted. All in all an enjoyable meal i just wouldnt choose the pie again. Kids meal of sausage, mash and beans was great. Doggie friendly too which is a plus.

When we entered the pub we noticed it was a little busy; with what we assumed to be locals. After waiting at the bar for ages (as cleaning glasses was more important) and then the bartender decides to serve people that came in after us first!! When she eventually did serve us, she scowled, and in an almost hostile manner asked us "What you after?"The food was sub-standard and over 1 hour to get to our table. No apology or an ask if the food was OK.I'm amazed this place gets good reviews, if this is the standard of service. I left feeling in a bad mood and cheated of my money.

Visited the Ferry Inn for an evening meal and found the food and service was first class. The downside, the 'front room' restaurant was fully booked so I was seated in the 'back room' which, being the only occupant, was quite miserable. Musty and reminiscent of a working mens club. Absolutely fantastic Sunday roast dinner with my Slovakian in-laws, wife and new baby. The beer range is superb, the pint of Ossett I had was in immaculate condition and my lager drinking father-in-law loved the Yorkshire Lager. We had one each of the Sunday roasts (pork, beef and lamb) and a smoked cod dish. All the dishes were executed superbly. Somebody in that kitchen is a good few notches above your average pub chef. The meat was very good quality and cooked to perfection, the accompanying veggies were fresh and delicious and the all important Yorkie pubs were first rate. This place has just moved to the top of my list of places to take people for a proper Sunday dinner and/or a good pint. Well done all involved.

Great Beer (although I had to ask for it to be topped up)Great Bread and Butter Pudding and Ice CreamBUT, both our main courses were dire - I had braised venison leg in what seemed to be a gravy largely consisting of oxo - it came with a small portion of potato and no veg! There was so much liquid that I had to ask for bread to mop it up. My wife had an open steak pie which had thick undercooked pastry and was sat on top of mashed potatoes, thus making it soggy - again, no veg which is unusual. The service was iffy with poor communication when we asked for things. The most recent review, and the summary of reviews on this site, misled us on the quality of food on offer here. Not recommended, but good beerAndrew, Tadcaster

I organised this year's 17th consecutive Christmas dinner for the Cawood Frothblowers, a small group of friends and like-minded philanthropists who also like a drink. Each year we vary the venue but this year it was time to return to our local, The Ferry Inn, Cawood, which hosted our very first gathering in 1998. And what a good decision it turned out to be. A special menu devised for us by Head Chef, Calum (at a very reasonable £30 per head) was the central feature of the evening and could not be faulted, from Calum carving the beef at table, to the lemon sorbet palette cleansers between the second and third courses. We sourced the wines ourselves as it was more convenient for both host and guests but even then the corkage was reasonable to the point of generosity. I am not saying everybody will get a five course meal as good as this at the price, but if you don't ask, you'll never know. The regular menu is brilliant too, comprising unusual standards and daily specials on the blackboard. Oh, and the beer, I nearly forgot: there are always at least six different real Yorkshire ales on offer (yes, I do mean they are sourced from the county) plus everything else that you would expect. So whether you want a quick pint, a pub lunch or a slap-up dinner do, pop in and see what landlord Jono Seaton and his excellent staff have to offer. I can promise you will not be disappointed.

We called here just over a year ago and really liked it, all the more because this pub, like most pubs in Yorkshire, is very dog friendly. Because we are unable to find any dog friendly pubs in Lincolnshire we decided to make a day of it last Sunday and call here again. Still very friendly and amenable, food lovely and dogs are even catered for and fed from bowls provided with leftover meat from the kitchen. If you're a dog lover and don't want to go to dog unfriendly pubs you couldn't ask for anything more from going here. Nice walks too.

Love this pub but the food is not what it was. The pork fillet was tasty but very small def not worth the 12.95. The fish and chips were ok ish and the stuffed chicken breast was nothing special and also not worth the money. We had the Eton mess for desert but was very poor mostly cream with not much else. I have been going to the ferry for many years to have a great pint but have never eaten there until now. We had fantastic food with great service. The pub is next to the river sells various hand pulled beers and is very cosy. The food has pub grub prices but restaurant food. All the staff are really nice. If you are thinking of visiting to eat on an evening booking is suggested.

We were in the area for a weekend and decided to try the Ferry Inn for an early dinner. The pub was packed with people watching the rugby, so we thought we would be out of luck securing a table. We managed to get a table and was served by a young man who's maturity and customer service skills belied his years. The food was simple, plentiful and really good value for money. We really enjoyed our visit and will certainly return if in the area

My husband & I called in this pub on our way back home from York. What a find, right by the river. Great menu excellent presentation & service. We shared a king prawn starter which was delicious. I had the beef cheek & my husband the burger. Large portions lovely fresh veg & proper home cooked chips. Nice traditional old pub with a log burner. Great atmospher & the food a lot more impressive than you would think. We will definatley return when that way out & recomend you try. I posted pictures on my I phone (x3), but couldnt type the review at the time just added this on my PC.

I had breakfast but decided it’s a good day I’m going to treat myself to a breakfast sandwich. But this was no treat. I feel compelled to let everyone know how awful it was… the sausages were definitely a couple days old at least, the mushrooms weren’t cooked and the hash brown was stale, undercooked and cold. Staff are pretty unpleasant too.

DAUGHTER DIDNT GET FOOD Absolutely discusted a member of staff can treat a 15 year old girl and her friend in this manner, she got soft drinks by 1 member of staff, then kicked out my another who was very rude. Just told my daughter she would get a refund(given no proof of this either, hopefully can track this through her app) She wasn't aware u had to be with an adult just for soft drinks and some food and wasn't explained this until just told to leave. ABSOLUTELY DISCUSTED IN SERVICE MY STAFF MEMBER, shouldn't treat anyone like that especially a child

One of the worst sunday lunches ever cold meat and veg burnt Yorkshire pudding sent it back to get warmed up came back couple minutes later still with the burnt Yorkshire pudding which was now like a rock not big or even medium portions found it expensive as were the drinks staff need to be trained in hygiene as every waiter and waitress were stroking customers dogs no apologies from waiting staff or management

Me and my partner had a lovely dinner in The Crown Inn. The service is good, friendly staff and definitely fair portion of delicious food. Highly recommend, will obviously back again.

Disappointed. Firstly we arrived, the car park was busy. Seemed people park there that aren't visiting the pub. Very small for the establishment. We had to drive around twice to eventually find a parking spot. Our drinks order was taken quickly and then our food order was taken. Great 👍 The food came. The fish and chips was a good size portion. The roasts on the other hand. Very thin pieces of meat. Large yorkies. OK veg. Now the roast potatoes... I'm not often disappointed by roast dinner veggies. However these roast potatoes were the worst I've ever tasted. My knife wouldn't even cut them the skin was like leather! I have no idea how they managed to get them like that. Inedible! The service was slow and seemed stretched for the amount of tables. We asked for a dessert menu and one was never brought, after finishing our drinks we left without ordering. Would not rush to come back for the food.
