I can only rate as I have experienced here and reckon these are probably a 3.5 on a better day. Took 40 minutes for the food to arrive and we only stayed because my grandson of 3 years was so hungry. We did hear others who came in being warned of a 45 minute wait, we didn't get that warning. Not an easy task keeping a hungry 3 year old boy settled at a table for that length of time. When the food arrived, my grandons cheese and ham toastie was a cheese an onion toastie. Not a chance we were going to send it back and wait however long for a correction, so scraped the onions out and thankfully he was ok with that. The Big Breakfast. Good and Bad. It was big, no complaint there. The sausages were really really really good, the bacon was very nice and not too salty. The eggs were cooked perfectly, the buttered sourdough was also very nice. Now the Bad.... The beans. Just my preference but i would have preferred them to have been served seperately in a pot as they often are. There was a very generous portion of them and way too much juice. Don't think they were served from a slotted spoon, the plate was dominated by bean juice and infected everthing. They tasted ok though. The 2 inch diameter tomatoes were cooked but served whole, not a great look. The mushrooms were horrible, black, spongy and stewed. Black Pudding.. don't eat that !! so no comment either way on it. Half slice of fried bread was drowned in bean juice so soggy. The tea was ok, nothing special. Very annoying however that tea for 2 came with a small jug of milk for 2 cups of tea for a pot that done 4-5 cups easily. Had to get a refill from very busy servers. The Black Americano coffee was not good at all though, like really not good. No one would order this twice ever i'm certain. I'm sure if i'd attended during a less busy time when service was normal and orders delieverd accurately, I would have scored them higher. But you can only review what you have experienced and experience is relative to cost too. 2 Big Breakfasts, Cheese and Onion Toastie, tea for 2 and a Coffee, £42 odd. I think 2 stars is fair for our experience here, probably 3.5 with normal service. Could be 4.5 with a better detail to breakfast items and should have been better given top dollar prices. Again great great sausages though.

Really Friendly staff and it was very busy which was a good thing as we thought people must love it here. We waited about 40 minutes for our breakfast but it was so good we really didn’t mind. Everything on the plate was delicious, I don’t think we left anything.

Waited an hour for simple food - sandwich. Food was then given to other customers. Food was then made again in a few minutes. Avocado on toast £8 was literally one slice of white with avocado on top, no garnish, big empty plate. Then went to Trent Park Cafe which was quick, great food and choice.

Stopped in here for tea and cake on Saturday afternoon after walking our dog on the London loop . We each had afternoon tea for one and it was superb warm homemade scones , with clotted cream and quality jam . Dog friendly with water and treats provided and an excellent stop after a dog walk . We will definitely be back

Don't let the surroundings fool you, this is not your typical farm cafe with all fresh ingredients. This is basically a greasy spoon type breakfast, ie cheap catering sausages, cheap margarine not butter on the toast. Also the service was extremely slow as other reviewers have pointed out, around 40 mins. The staff were friendly and it's in a beautiful country setting.

Very surprised at so many good reviews. Firstly when we first sat down the place was really cold and quite uninviting. Mocha arrived and was lukewarm. I ordered the Big Breakfast- definitely quantity over quality. Bacon overcooked, sausages were virtually tasteless- definitely not local produce as expected. Massive lake of baked beans- also tasteless, why couldn’t they be in a separate dish as in most restaurants? Whole tomato which was rock hard- why not cut in half? Insipid white bread which was supposed to be fried bread. Toast arrived pre- buttered- I don’t eat butter so couldn’t eat it. Why wasn’t it served without as in most restaurants where butter is usually provided separately. The only tasty element was the mushrooms. Very disappointing. We always get a fantastic cooked breakfast in Cornwall several times a year full of local produce, local sourdough bread and perfectly cooked. Served in a lovely restaurant overlooking the sea.The breakfast we ate today cannot be compared and was more expensive!

I took my cousin and her husband here for his 60th birthday and he absolutely loved it. I am a regular visitor because the food is good, well sourced and well made. The staff and the owner are delightful and bend over backwards for you. They are dog friendly too. I am reluctant to big them up because it's my favourite place and I want to keep it a secret but they deserve the shout out.

Stopped for lunch before visiting the arboretum at Beales 5 min away. We were hoping to sit outside as it was a lovely sunny autumn day - over 20 degrees. There was no outdoor seating which was a shame - there on our last visit. Inside was quite busy and a bit noisy. It is however, a nice old farm building with original beams, sympathetically furnished. We were also hoping to have a look around the farm shop which was attached. This had unfortunately closed. Our order did take some time - over half an hour to arrive after we had ordered - it was a simple order of soup and omlette. When it did arrive it was fresh, tasty and well made.

We have been meaning to come here for a long time. As we were passing by on our way home decided to drop in. The cafe is very pleasant. Very spacious with some outdoor seating. We both had the breakfast full and half. Everything was cooked well, sadly the black pudding was the exception being rather dry. However that was my only gripe. The staff were fine and the service was quick. Certainly will return here.

This establishment advertises itself as being open to 4pm, Wednesday to Sunday. We called at 3.30pm on Saturday 4th September to be greeted at the door by a member of staff who told us they were about to close and could not serve us. We pointed out there was half an hour before their purported closure and were they sending us away? He said yes, and I responded that this would now be permanent as previously we had been regular customers. We were not asked what we wanted to eat or drink. We would have accepted being advised that they could no longer supply hot dishes but could provide cakes, sandwiches, teas etc at that time but we were not even given the opportunity to decide. The majority of the staff are kids, including the lad who turned us away. When dealing with kids, you must be expected to be treated like kids, it seems. We have always assumed that closing time means when the establishment is prepared to take last orders, not when the staff want to get home. Despite being locals, we will not be returning to Ferny Hill Tea Rooms anytime soon. No stars.

Very disappointed ordered small breakfast arrived within 2mins of ordering, Luke warm at best, this should be a freshly cooked breakfast, I told the staff and they said that they would cook a fresh one!, when it arrived my wife could see the staff touching the food to see if it was hot, when I said that I did not want it, the server got very aggressive, the manager did apologies, but this situation should never happen. With regards to cleanliness, the table was sticky to the touch and the window seal had cobwebs on it, such a shame. On a personal note we will never return, only went for breakfast not a fight.

I run a small business locally together with my colleague,,,,,,,,,, as a Christmas get together for a group of our clients I booked a table at ferny hill, farm, after visiting on a number of occasions and enjoying my visits and never having cause to complain. I spoke with the owner prior to the date of our visit as a matter of courtesy to ensure they were happy to cater for us and clearly stated that we were catering for tea, coffees maybe sandwiches and cake. He suggested pre ordering their platters or maybe cream teas but then suggested we wait until the day and order from the menu as we went along. I took his advice on ordering on the day. We arrived at the cafe and it became clear very quickly that they had very little to offer cake wise and in fact it became quite uncomfortable with the reality even though we were booked and I had this conversation with the owner, that there was not much to be able to offer our clients. The lovely young staff were absolutely amazing and bent over backwards to accommodate and find ways to make up for this total lack of organisation. I spoke in person to the owner explaining the conversation we had which he basically denied and tried to state that I had not been clear in my requirements,,,,,,,,, I was beyond frustrated and frankly embarrassed at this point as I had a table of 20 clients and really was not relishing having to deal with this. His final unprofessional and beyond rude solution was to tell me he was not going to speak with me and walked away. I was speechless .......... I can on,y thank the lovely staff that bent over backwards to ensure that our afternoon was salvaged with absolutely no apology from the owner. I live locally and will absolutely never re visit ferny hill farm again. The one star is for the staff who I cannot thank enough.

Not sure why this is headlined as being vegetarian friendly as there were no veggie options on the menu. I ordered a toastie with the limited vegetables they had and some cheese. Firstly they presented me with a ham sandwich. Then we found my "toastie" on someone else's plate. It was two slices of cold toast that was literally falling apart and everything inside it was cold. The cheese wasn't even melted. The waiting staff were lovely but the service was very slow (half the table had finished before the other half even got theirs) and it definitely wasn't worth the wait. Won't be going back.

We went here on a recommendation and at first sight it seems nice, with plenty of parking and a nice, though expensive, farm store and gift shop. The restaurant itself (we went for breakfast) is a bit dull in some parts but brighter in others and has plenty of space. The exposed beams and rough woodwork are attractive but covered in a thick layer of dust so we had to be careful not to touch it. The food and service was quite good but a bit overpriced and for quality, quantity and value does not match up to some other eating places in the local area. Not bad but we would not rush to go there again with better options just a few minutes away.

I am surprised to see Ferny Hill has only had a 11 reviews to date as we've been going there for years. We call this place 'Big Boy Breakfast' as the full breakfast, with double rations of everything, is formidable! Great quality produce means it not your standard cafe fry-up which is reflected in the price.Good for afternoon tea too! I've been told. Can't recommended it enough.Josh

My wife and I come to this venue once in a blue moon so I thought it only right to write a piece about it. If you like a full English breakfast then you can do no better than here. Excellent food, nice and clean location and very good staff. You cannot ask for more. I would recommend this establishment to anyone. Good prices, this place is a goldmine for the owners. Keep up the good work!

Good quality food, and friendly staff, but be prepared to wait....incredibly slow service.12ish on a Sunday.Over 30 minute wait just to get our tea and juice. Not nice being made to wait so long, especially with kids.

A nice cafe with great homely food, huge portions so make sure you are hungry. Some of our party had the Big Breakfast and it lived up to its name, only those with the biggest stomachs didn't struggle to finish it. I had a omelette, very nice but on the large side. For some reason they were not dong milkshakes, not sure why as they are simple to prepare but I wasn't given an explanation.

The farm is set within the Green Belt Area, and looking from the windows as you eat, it is hard to believe that you are minutes from the end of the Piccadilly Line in one direction, and the M25 in the other. A full English Breakfast is served till 3.0 pm, and there are lunch time specials too. Food is wholesome, and service friendly. Gets very busy on Sunday mornings with families.

My partner and I stopped off for a quick lunch here on the 2/1/16. There is a farm shop on entrance to the tea rooms which I did not have time to browse but it was appealing. The place was busy which is always a positive and we chose the lunchtime special of home made soup with choice of crusty bread or grilled sandwiches with a number of fillings to choose from. The portions were large, satisfying and good value.Service was friendly and prompt, tables were being cleared and cleaned thoroughly. I can imagine in the summer months the views to be very picturesque, however even on a cold, wet and grey day in January it was an enjoyable experience and would recommend.

Had a late lunch here around 14:00 after some hospital visits. The views are lovely out from the seating area and warrant a photo or two. Having eaten at a few restaurants in the area with mostly dismal results, I was keeping my expectations low. Thankfully the staff at Ferny Hill proved me wrong. Great prompt service and with four of us with intricate orders, they got all the details correct. The food itself was basic but tasty, exactly what we wanted. They did load the smoked salmon rather thickly which was lovely, especially from a London area restaurant. Coffee was great, and the farm shop had great gifts and food. Would easily go for a meal again.

Ferny Hill Farm is on the south side of Ferny Hill, at the Cockfosters end. The menu is slightly restricted but everything that we've tried there, over several years, has been excellent -- including the quality of the service. One of our favourites in brunch, which is available at the weekend, but the best of the lot is the clotted cream teas - with home made scones and strawberry jam. If you eat your brunch fairly slowly you can even slide straight on into a cream tea. The restaurant is usually busy, regardless of the time of day, but we've always been able to get a table. The farm shop - in an annexe by the entrance - is also well worth visiting.

I can't help it, but I find Harris & Hoole disappointing. It's major retail dressed up to be local. Unlike the big brand coffee shops that don't disguise what they are, it feels as if Harris is trying to be something it's not. There's nothing especially wrong with it, but if I find myself with a choice, I do tend to go elsewhere.

We have just had the most beautifully moist, white battered haddock and chips. We ordered a mixture of regular and large - and the large were absolutely huge, all with perfect, crisp batter. A large portion of chips fed more than four with good appetites. We always have our fish and chips from Fish and Chips at - and never disappointed. Delivery was on time ( was able to book mid afternoon) and the food was piping hot. Recommended

I’m posting this only because I have been asked to by the venue when completing an emailed survey. If you’d like me to delete it I’m more than happy to just let me know:Been here twice. First occasion was about 3yrs ago and decided we wouldn’t return. Primarily because it was a little dirty ie. Cutlery, plates etc. but nothing that would cause an issue. We were served our lunch and manager had his thumb in our food on the plate. That wasn’t for me. Then I saw a marketing campaign advertised on Facebook and thought let’s give it another go. We live locally so it wasn’t too much trouble to get to. Venue full of energy and busy but it was enjoyable. We were seated by an attentive host and everything seemed friendly. We came with appetites and were looking forward to a full roast. I immediately noticed that the table hadn’t been wiped down and there was ground in food on the cutlery on the table. I didn’t moan because I grabbed another set of cutlery off another table. We ordered starters and had a side plate which I immediately noticed had something black on it - like a small piece of burnt food or something unidentifiable. It was a side plate so I didn’t care but alarm bells were now ringing. Our mains arrived and I had to ask them to clear the starters before putting our food down - although I accept this is a common problem in the UK where staff only care about dumping food down and not clearing tables - that attitude would account for dirtiness I suspect. The main roast was absolutely fine and lots to eat. Honestly, it perfectly edible but that’s where the interest stopped as it was distinctly average with honestly zero taste. It wasn’t unpleasant but it was just totally tasteless. Not sure what else I can write tbh. Dessert was ok. It did have flavour but a little light on the substance side. I had the crumble which seemed to be more crumble that it did anything else. Again, was perfectly edible though. Then the bill. Service charge is added which is absolutely fine but then I was asked for a tip which apparently would go direct to the server. Tbh I have in because I was having a nice day with my family but that was the final straw and an absolute piss take! Categorically, I won’t be back. Interestingly I was speaking to my neighbour who said they’d had a similar issue there and didn’t think much of it. I’m not bashing the place but you wanted feedback so here it is. I apologise if this upsets or bothers you but I won’t ever be back so honestly not fussed. Shame because it really could be something good there but it’s clearly the same old problems. Edit:tbh I wasn’t going to leave a review but I received an email requesting one. Having posted it here and being bored, I looked at other reviews. It seems cleanliness is a key issue with this venue including the toilets; lipstick on wine glasses, graffiti in the toilets, dirt on tables and cutlery. Upon further research it seems this is simply owned by a business (see other reviews) where they will churn out the same stuff again and again. That sort of pub isn’t for me and having read the reviews, clearly isn’t for others. Edit after response: Ah now you see I was happy to leave the ‘seemingly’ negative review at that and frankly wasn’t even going to post a review but you asked me to. As with ALL business in the UK it seems you don’t actually want feedback unless it’s positive. So because your response virtually puts the onus of responsibility back onto me I am now compelled to respond to you directly.Firstly, how about accept the sh1t experience and feedback and say “sorry about that,we’ll try harder and out things in place”?But no,you’ve chosen publicly to explain that it’s all my fault because I didn’t tell you about it at the time!Well maybe (and here’s just a thought) you employ staff that can actually wash dishes and cutlery on the first place! It’s not my job to tell you how to do yoursOr maybe I should cook the food for you as well?I’m pleased everyone on the net can actually see your true colours responding in such a pathetic and negative manner.
